It's the anniversary of my mom's passing and Easter weekend so a particularly tough time and I was feeling for some home cooked cozy cookin but not up for doing it myself. As we are out of state and can't be home with family this weekend, we went searching on UberEats to hit that spot, knowing I was going to end up with something like Cracker Barrel or iHop, neither of which sounded good but, let's be real, I'm emotionally eating right now. However, a newly listed Sunday's popped up in the delivery options. The menu was a bit limited but scored points for authenticity . My hubby got the ribs, collards, and mac-n-cheese. I got the fried pork chop, rice & gravy, green beans & fried okra. Both came with a roll and we (of course) ordered sweet tea, something we rarely do anymore, only for special occasions. So here's where I get extra critical of my southern food. This is home cookin' and just what the doctor ordered. I didn't want fancy, I didn't want frilly, I needed true comfort food and that's what I found here. Could I suggest some tweaks? Sure, the rice and gravy didn't have much flavor, could use a little s&p in the gravy. The pork chops were a tad salty as well as the green beans but both had great flavor! The fried okra is, well fried okra, but at least it's not breaded in corn meal. Too many restaurants try to perfect perfection and over correct. Hubby's ribs were good, collards were good but we didn't have pepper sauce to add that pop of vinegar since we ordered delivery. His Mac n cheese (and this is gonna hurt, was a bit dry) but lately I haven't been feeling for Mac n cheese and haven't been a huge fan of the baked Mac n cheese trend lately anyway. I always feel it's dry so this is not a knock to the restaurant. Was every item perfection? No. Would I order again? In a heartbeat! This is home cooking. It's not pretentious. It's no doubt made with love and it reminded me of sitting down at my grandma's dinner table for supper. I needed a real comfort meal and that's what I got, warmed my heart. Oh and the sweet tea! My hubby and I have been opting for healthier menu items for several years now and I've even lost my taste for southern sweet tea as it's now too sweet even for me, again, born and raised on southern sweet tea. We ordered an unsweet tea to dilute it knowing I wanted the comfort of sweet tea but I probably couldn't handle so much sugar. Well, no need. It's rare to find a restaurant that gets it sweet enough without making the tea thick like syrup, true southerners know what I'm talking about. Sunday's sweet tea hits that perfect line where it's sweet enough but not thick and the tea flavor still comes through. No need to dilute with unsweet tea, it's perfect! I knocked a star, mostly due to the imbalance of heavily salted pork chops and green beans with the lack of flavor on the rice and gravy. I think a little balance there, share the spices lol would really make my meal top notch, but again, if my grandma or momma had cooked this meal I'd have no complaints. The only reason I'm even pointing this out is to offer a fair review on Yelp, otherwise I wouldn't say a word and eat with a smile on my face and an overstuffed belly.

How long has it been since you have heard something like that? Talk to the waitresses here... you will hear things like "I've been here for 19 years, and just love the place." These are the sort of people who you just know are the best grandparents on the planet. I've been a few times for Breakfast and have enjoyed every meal I have had... BTW their Sour Dough Toast is the best... I usually get the special, two eggs, bacon, toast, grits... I know it's hard to mess up breakfast. The coffee is good. The service is just like I got from my grandparents. These people are the salt of the earth. More than once I've given $100 for a tip. Yesterday morning the lady checking me out said "I think you made a mistake on your tip." I said "No Ma'am, I was shooting for 200% and that's pretty close"... She offered me a piece of cake to take home. :-) These people are simply your grandparents, your Sunday school teachers, Aunt "B" from Mayberry... You really have to go by and experience the best people the USA has to offer. If you go and you agree that the folks here represent the best we have to offer, leave them a tip like you just ate the best meal of your life.

I'm always on the hunt for Old Style Family restaurant's and this place did not disappoint. A lot of choices on the menu, decided to try their Club Sandwich. The bread was some of the best on a sandwich I have ever had, nice and soft and not too little or too much bread where it overpowers the rest of the sandwich. Every bit of the sandwich and fries was tasty (picture was from their website- forgot to take one). The service was friendly, didn't take long at all before we had our food and they were attentive but not annoying. For those that love the old style family restaurant's, this is a must visit.
