Beautiful views of Anderson, SC. Be advised that most of the seating is outside thus the name Up On The Roof. We went on Mother's Day , bright and sunny skies and HOT in the sun. The whole trying to get out of the sun was a thing. They have some seating indoors, and some seating under a roof . Everything else is outside with no cover whatsoever. There appeared to be a sun shade that could be pulled over the seating area but perhaps I was wrong because surely they would have utilized the sun shade if it were available. I think because they were very busy the manager ( from NJ) was harder to deal with than usual ( don't know as I've never been there) on the ride up in the elevator the people getting in said " Good Luck" to us . The waiter and host were very nice but apparently anytime a guest tried to get seated out of the sun the manager sounded very irritated. Anyway.... On to the food : I am extremely gluten sensitive. So far no stomach issues and it's been a couple of hours. We had a charcuterie board that was delicious. The only gluten were pencil breadsticks. I ate cheese and grapes and pickled okra. It was very fresh and good. I had the fresh trout meal which included creamed corn and a few baby grilled carrots. There were two pieces. It was really tasty . They have one gluten free desert : strawberry shortcake type deal. Almond cake with strawberry confiet. It was really delicious. The head chef is gluten free so I felt safe eating there. My other family members had a breakfast burrito and chicken lettuce wraps. They both seemed to enjoy their meals. I will most probably give it another shot on a non holiday to see if they have more luck with finding another coffee press ( they apparently were all in use or they truly just had one?) and to see if seating of your choice is more accommodated. read more

Best decision ever!! I'm typically not the type of person who orders brussel sprouts as an appetizer, but theirs are *chef's kiss*. We could've gotten full off of those and the chicken lettuce wraps alone. Our chicken sandwiches were both really flavorful and fresh. The mango slaw was the perfect addition! We were there on 4/19/26. When we showed up at our 1:30 pm reservation time, there were many open tables, but a line at the host desk. The host seemed relatively clueless and spent an inordinate amount of time sitting each party. The waiter Evan was very good and attentive, but that is where the positives stopped. The food was ok, but not great for the price you pay for it. I also asked for a refill of my coke and was told there was a charge for soda refills. In addition my wife ordered a house chardonnay, and we were charged $21 for an 8 oz. glass. The food took a very long time to come out and the waiter apologized several times for the delay, even though the place was not very crowded. We were there with several other parties who made their own reservations and they all experienced the same delays in getting their food. Not a very impressive experience. read more

In Anderson (Lake Hartwell) for the weekend and wanted to go to a new restaurant... What a wonderful find! We ordered a cold beer on tap and decided on a half rack of ribs and the lamb sliders. We both really liked the food (and would return) ; our server made the afternoon. Her name was Faith. She was very sweet, attentive (but not too much) and professional. Up On The Roof is a good restaurant with a really cool vibe. It is located on the roof of the parking garage downtown. It has great views of the area, lots of tables - some under cover and some out in the open, and several rectangle gas fire pits with couches around them. It was really hot and sunny the afternoon we ate at Up On The Roof, but they were able to get us high top table in the shade. The ambiance was great and the service was good and attentive. They have a full bar with cocktails, beer (several on tap, bottles and cans) and wine. The food was really good with a unique twist to the menu. We ordered a charcuterie block, Mediterranean lamb burger sliders, smash burgers, pork ribs (fall off the bone) and truffle fries. Everything tasted really good. While Up On The Roof is really good, it is also pretty expensive. That is the main reason for rating this a 4/5 instead of a 5/5. Once me and my wife arrived there was no host at arrival. Leaving us confused on what to do. We walked to the group of employees to ask where to check-in. We were given a menu and were told to sit wherever. The tables were wobbly nearly spilling our cocktails on us. Trout had crispy skins was on top of creamy street corn, with fingerling roasted potatoes; sides are ala cart if it's not on the dish that you order. The menu changes so this is a new fall menu. We ordered the apple cider donuts which were soft and served with applesauce and vanilla ice creamy with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Kya's service was great, personable waitress. No crowds at lunch. The first 60 min was OK since we had a great sunset to see... we honestly were getting rather hungry though, so I simply have to cut at least one point off their review for lethargic service... I'm tempted to cut a second point for not offering at least a round of free drinks or perhaps some respectable discount for the entire meal... My party of 8 on a Thursday night had the worst service I've ever experienced at these restaurant. I've eaten here several times and the food was good. Not tonight. It took at least 30 minutes to get our order taken (server never told us of any specials). I was given wrong information concerning salads (others got a house salad but I was given an entirely different description). When our food finally came out 30 minutes later, everyone got their orders but me. By the time I got mine, the table was half way through their meal. As a consolation prize, I got a free dessert. This was the worst dessert I've ever had (pure sugar and tasteless chocolate thing). Not once did our server come and ask if I liked it. I didn't. To top it off, our server asked if we were Christian. He wanted to hand out some kind of religious information. Soooo inappropriate. I really really wanted to like this location after visiting the one in Greenville...but it simply doesn't compare. After we got seated, we waited about an hour for our food. The ribs were okay but the mussels weren't great. The flavor combination was really weird and extremely spicy. The asparagus also had a weird combo of flavors (would've rather had them to just grill it with some salt). To be honest I don't think the food should've taken as long as it did. The one saving grace that Up on the Roof had was our server. She was really great and attentive. The atmosphere is pretty nice as well. Maybe 3 stars but the reality vs expectation skewed it to 2. Let's start with the good: the fried calamari was on point. I know it's just fried but that's not always easy. It was tender and crispy. Grilled shrimp tacos: you'd think the shrimp would be the star of the show right? Nope, the mango salsa overpowered everything in the taco. They basically crammed a salad in the taco with some shrimp so I "deconstructed " it and treated it as a salad! I was able to take small bites of the salsa with lettuce and shrimp thus elevating the shrimp to their rightful star status. Burger: it's hard for me to even get started when I ask for my burger medium rare and it's medium well. It came on a big brioche bun that sucked all the moisture from the burger. Medium rare would have provided the needed au jus to balance the bread. Disappointed. Service: meh. Sat outside for 10 minutes waiting for server. It was early in the evening so place was not busy. But I decided to move to the bar. The bartenders had RBF until I decided to make the first move to break the ice. First time I've encountered aloof bartenders, especially when they weren't busy.
