Beautiful weather called for al fresco dining in what may be one of the largest and most pleasant patios in DC. Our family of 4 enjoyed delicious food - generous lobster roll, nicely cooked scallops, shrimp on orzo and short rib tacos (a fave). The smoked fish dip was decent and accompanied by a wide array of veggies (Don't understand the mini- bagels chips). The drinks were well-made; I had the Paloma cocktail, served in a Ball jar. COVID precautions were taken seriously and there was plenty of seating. Our table ordered the "All Three" appetizer which included salsa, queso and gauc. We loved the quest, guac was just ok, but no one at our table liked the salsa. If we could do it again, we would have just ordered the queso, but that's just us! All that being said, the portions for all three were huge which you don't always see but was a welcomed surprise! I had the shrimp tacos which I would order again in a heartbeat. Two people in our group had the scallop tacos which they raved about and I could see were cooked absolutely perfectly. The fourth person in our party had the seared salmon which he enjoyed but I suspect he was jealous of all our AMAZING tacos. Despite my disappointment in the salsa (just too much of a minty flavor for me) I would recommend everyone eat here because there is literally something for everyone, it's amazingly fresh, and overall just delish! read more

This was a DoorDash order but Millie's staff couldn't even give me and update on my order. The food was fine, definitely overpriced though. I don't understand why I had to place my order twice and wait almost 3 hours in total for the delivery. It was only chips and queso, poke, and soup, + $45 Frose- y'all don't have to prep anything but the poke! Everything else is pre-made & poured in a cup. I ordered at 5:30pm, got my food delivered at 8:30pm! Millie's first status said it was ready for pickup from a Dasher then the ETA kept changing from 40 minutes to an hour and a half. Then When I called the restaurant (it was loud, had to raise my voice and repeat myself since the hostess couldn't hear me) to ask for an update on my initial DoorDash order to see if it was being prepared- she asked for my name as if she was going to check on it, came back on the line & treated me as a customer ordering from another restaurant even though it was ordered via DoorDash and said she could NOT give me an update. That's crazy. You can't run in the kitchen and check for my order? Why'd you ask for my name and put me on hold then? She then told me to call DoorDash instead. It's ridiculous. I've worked in the restaurant business, this is poor training and management. The connection or disconnection, rather, between Millie's staff & DoorDash and being treated as a completely separate customer by each is a complete MESS. I really just wanted the tasty Frose on a nice Friday night for me and my girlfriend so that's why I placed it twice. My second order placed (same items) went seamless so all the trouble with the first order didn't make sense. I had called Millie's about my first order status because it went from "waiting to be picked up, to being prepared by Millie's, to Dasher waiting to pickup, back to being prepared" then suddenly Cancelled with no reason given. This wasn't worth all the trouble (calling Millie's, then being on the phone with DoorDash for 20 minutes. I'll just have to find a new Frose somewhere else in DC for the spring. read more

First time at Millie's and was very excited to try it. We ordered the three dips and chips to start. They were all delicious and more than enough to share between four of us. I ate the Great Point salad. It was a little disappointing. It was very fresh but I could barely taste the sweet chili lime vinaigrette. So, the salad was pretty tasteless and boring. My friends ordered the tacos and quesadillas and loved them. The quesadillas are huge and my friend struggled to eat the whole thing. read more

The food here seems to be incredibly hit or miss. We have had a couple of good deliveries, but other times the food really struggles. For example, one time the chicken in my salad was completely raw. Last night, we ordered the lobster roll. In a previous order, the lobster roll was delicious and very fresh (probably the best I have had outside of Maine). Last night it seemed like they used frozen meat on the bottom with a little bit of fresh meat on top. It tasted fishy and was quite unappetizing. For the prices, you should be able to expect more consistency in the quality. read more

They've done a great job of social distancing. Lots of outdoor space and the indoor space is very open with a breeze. My server was amazing! My only complaint is it's way overpriced for what you get. $40 for a quesadilla and a drink is just too expensive for me. Other than that it was very enjoyable. read more

Initially the service was awful. Asked for a table for two. Hostess wanted to seat us next to the kitchen. Asked for another table and the hostess told us she had nothing available. We then pointed out several open tables for two and the hostess told us the tables were for people with reservations later that evening. So after we suggested she could seat parties at any table (including us), I asked if they take reservations for specific tables. Hostess: "YES". A blatant lie later debunked by a conversation with the manager. The manager seated us at a better table. Waitress was great. Food came out fast and was also great. Might return for those reasons although the behavior of the hostess bordered on what felt like discrimination. And the manager never came by to check on us or to make us feel more welcome after the incident. read more

Millie's is exactly what it needs to be: yummy, fun, and convenient. Service is great and surprisingly quick, and the food was a 9/10 the two times I've been here. I prefer it for brunch rather than dinner, but both are good! My one complaint is the noise, but other than that, it's great. read more

I like this place a lot because their food and service. It is hard to get parking spot and you may not get good seating due to they are very busy. However, it is worth it to come here for me. My first visit with a friend left us good impression as far as the excellent service the server provided. I have to eat vegan food lately to lower cholestrol level. I read the menu before and after we get to the restaurant. I thought i selected a vegan dish but it came with chess on top. I was picking out the chess with my fingers while my friend trying to help with a fork. It turned out that i thought queso fresco is a sort of veggie while it is a chess. In other dishes on the menu, they state chess if it has chess in it. Anyway, my friend blamed me for not asking to make sure there is no chess in the dish. The server came by to check on us and gracefully offered to give me a new one without chess. The new dish came quickly as well and it is delicious. So we had a happy meal and will come back for other meals in this restaurant in my neighborhood. Highly recommend! read more

While visiting AU, I decided to stop by Millie's for an ice cream, they have a small stand that is separate from the restaurant. The ice cream was great but the service was not great. Well the ladies working behind the ice cream counter were friendly but the servers that were working outside were not welcoming or informative. I asked for water and to use the restroom and they just seemed as if they did not want to be bothered by me since I was not sitting down and ordering food. read more

This place is awesome! Good food - Great Service & Ice Cream. After reading that the Washington Post restaurant critic, Tom Sietsema, granted Millie's 2.5 stars. My best friend suggested we try this place. To my delight the food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the white queso is super yummy. The soft shell crab was flavorful and the sweet corn salad is a must. However, the best part of our dining experience was the superb service provided by Austin. He was a delightful young man. His wine pairing suggestions were spot on and I ended up purchasing a bottle of wine to go. Please be sure to ask for Austin's section if you're looking for 5-star dining experience; and for a refreshing end to dinner, visit their ice cream parlor for a scoop of homemade ice cream. read more

Amazing Frose! Yummy Shishito Peppers! However, 2 Stars are solely dedicated to a young bar tender, who was rude and made us feel so uncomfortable. There were 2 available spots where we wanted to sit, but we couldn't because out of nowhere this bar- tender popped out and scolded us for taking these seats. The seats looked 100%available, we were given an excuse that there were people who are holding the seats, when hostess told us that first come first serve at the bar area. We were forced to get a table. We observed the bar while being at the table, the seats were available until a random couple walked in, and just sat at those seats. Very sad.... read more

I made the mistake of giving Millie's a second chance, and I regret that decision. There were roaches on the wall. We saw not one, but two, and for sure there would be 100's of their relatives nearby. The manager came by and said, "Oh, you mean 'flying bugs'?" If you prefer to think of roaches as "flying bugs", and that makes your meal taste better, then do continue to eat at Millie's, where a lunch for 4 people costs $90. I prefer not to have insects crawling about my dining table. Also, while our waitress was lovely, the manager's attitude was sour and grumpy. read more

We went to Millie's for brunch after my son's baseball practice up the street at Friendship AU Park. It's got a very nice outdoor patio as well as indoor seating, but since it was pretty nice day, we opted for outside. The menu items are on the expensive side, but I was expecting that, so no surprise there. I ordered the Crab Benedict and my husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros. He said that his was delicious, which is high praise because he is extremely picky about his food. Mine was ok, not great, due primarily to the fact that they decided to put huge wet gobs of spinach underneath the poached egg, which was just way too much and it overpowered the dish. Also, the hash browns were overcooked. I did see a lot of other items on the menu that looked really good, so I will be back. Another interesting feature is the walk up ice cream window that you can grab after brunch. It's a little weird because it's basically completely separate and you have to close out at your table and physically walk up to the window to order the ice cream. It's fine though and my son enjoyed it so. All said I think Millie's is a good place to grab a bite, especially if the weather's nice, and I am looking forward to giving some of the other dishes a try. read more

Had a great extended lunch recently at Millie's. Drinks: the blueberry lemonade was awesome and girls all enjoyed the frose. Solid beer list as well and waiter was helpful with some recommendations. Food: We started with the tuna poke which fantastic, also had the burrata which went quickly. The chips with guac/ salsa/ white queso seemed expensive but the portions were large and we refilled our chips for the whole group to enjoy. highly recommended. I had the 40th Pole quesadilla which was delicious, marinated chicken with goat cheese and caramelized onions. Others had salads, tacos, quesadillas and po boys. Not a negative review on any of the food. Portions were large and very satisfying which justified the healthy prices. Atmosphere was fun with mix of young couples, groups of young professionals, families and empty nester types. Ice cream stand outside had a steady group of families coming by after sports practices, etc. One look around and you can see why Spring Valley needed something like that. Write a review for a Freebie? Are you kidding? I got overcharged for a really mediocre lunch. A place with so many tacos should know that the tortillas need heft so you can pick them up. Their corn tortillas were so flimsy that they fell apart immediately, and the wet filling made them even soggier. But the worst part was the fish, supposedly their specialty. It was a local variety that I expected to be "firm, lean, and mild-flavored". Instead, it tasted really fishy, perhaps because of the thick, oily brown layer that had been left on. It looked unappetizing and tasted worse. The server never asked how our meals were and didn't seem to notice the pile of slish I'd left on my plate, so I pointed it out and suggested that the kitchen not send out pieces in that state again. I wonder if that message was transmitted to anyone -- no one came over to follow up or apologize. I'd heard that the management has a "my way or the highway" attitude towards customers; this experience seems to bear that out. I certainly won't bother to return and wonder how many do. At this price you should get better; there are just so many other choices around here. read more

The food is spectacular, the service is good. Be prepared to exercise patience with the hostess. The job seems to be beyond her skilll set. We waited for an hour for a table for four after we were told three times that our table would be ready in 20 minutes. When we noted that we had been waiting the hostess invited us to have a table outside in the rain. CUstomer service didn't appear to be in her vocabulary or experience base. I think management might consider of this is the best face of the restaurant that brands itself as family friendly. Just wow. Came here for 'date day' with my hubz and infant and I can't thank this place enough for making our lunch so delish and fun. The staff, food, ambiance, and overall experience was excellent. Had the froze and the Great Point Salad with blackened salmon. Instead of shrimp. Outdoor seating is gorg. Old gas station turned into a crisp fresh restaurant. Reminded me of Newport. Meh. If you can walk here, it's prolly acceptable. We had the ceviche, guac with chips for appetizer. The chips were very good, but the rest was just OK. I ordered the rockfish tacos, which were dry and tasteless. They needed an avocado cream drizzle or something for pop. No excuse for bland fish tacos. My husband had the scallops, which he described as so-so. Just mediocre overall. The wait staff is very good. The atmosphere was lively -- dogs, kids and Millennials enjoying drinks on the patio. Wish it were better food. Maybe an off night or maybe we didn't order the right dishes. read more

The food was good, the service not so. The sparkling water bottle was served without a glass. The regular water was not served until we asked for it a second time. The food was served without napkins/knives/forks. The heater was not turned on even after we asked twice. When we had mentioned we could get our jackets from our car, we were assured the heater could be turned on. So we were unpleasantly cold, and the food got cold right away. We don't know whether the restaurant is understaffed, but we won't bother to come back until it's at least warm outside, so we don't freeze, and the food is edible. read more

We considered ourselves as 'tourists' in this part of DC, as our primary goal was to get to know the surrounding neighborhoods around American University (a short drive away). We hadn't eaten anything in 8 hours so we were more than ready to sit down and have a good meal. Outdoor seating during Covid was great, weather was perfect in the 70-80 degree range, and our food was delicious and arrived without too long of a wait. We were there before 5pm, it was not very crowded or busy, which is *probably* why the support staff had nothing better to do than stare at us while we ate/drank. They cleared our table & filled our water glasses without having to be asked, but it might've been better if they were taught/told not to stare at their guests so much. read more

I had eaten at Millie's pre-Covid and have had it delivered during Covid. Recently, the food has been very uneven. Last week, the shrimp po'boy was toasted perfectly, warm and delicious. Today is was soggy, uncut, abysmal. Some days the food is excellent. Other days, really disappointing. It's too dicey now. You never know what you are going to get. We went early on a Saturday in Sept. (right before 6) to try out Millie's. The outside seating area wasn't very crowded yet, but as it was still pretty hot out, we elected to sit inside. The two-top tables are pretty close together and, with the overall noise of the place, it was very hard to hear my friend or the server. We ordered the beet & avocado crostini, and the cornmeal-crusted rockfish sticks, which also came with fried okra. The crostini was okay, although there were only a couple tiny crumbles of goat cheese (fine with me, as I was going to pick it off and give it to my friend, but disappointing for him as there wasn't really anything to give). It also was very hard to eat as it was just two crostini piled super-high with the toppings. The fish sticks were better, and my friend liked the fried okra. We both ordered tacos - I got the Westender, the blackened mahi mahi, which was very good. My friend got the Hither Creek, the rockfish, which he also enjoyed. Additionally, we ordered specialty drinks, the blueberry lemonade, which was good, and the frosé, which the server recommended. The frosé was not good...too strong, as if they added alcohol, and supposedly had strawberry compote in it, which I didn't taste. As to the service, once our orders were taken, we didn't see our server much. I had to help myself to get an additional napkin, and finally flag down someone else to ask for more water. Overall, we weren't very impressed for the money spent. It's too loud - I compared it to fine dining prices in an IHOP atmosphere - too expensive for not a huge amount of food, and lackluster service. read more

This place is spectacular all the way around...food, service, atmosphere! A great addition to the Washington DC food scene. The front patio can't be beat when the weather is nice. The menu is more expansive than their menu on Nantucket, with several more entrees. Highly recommend the clam chowder, the Eel Point tacos, the Westender tacos, and the soft shell crab, though I prefer the tacos on flour rather than corn tortillas. My only complaint - no Grey Lady on tap. That's a sin which I hope they will rectify soon. read more

I live in AU Park so was excited when Millies opened this Spring. I've been 4 times (each subsequent visit was in hope that the experience would be better than the first) and have been super disappointed each time. Menu is odd (seafood meets Surfside) and a bit over the top, food is just ok for the price ($17 for a rather small chicken salad, $9 for a 12oz milkshake... obviously taking advantage of the locals), service is slow and inconsistent (lots of milennials more intersted in chatting with each other than providing good service). They've done a nice job with the restaurant itself and it's a great space though very loud inside (don't expect to have dinner conversation without including the tables next to you), but not a place I'd recommend to anyone looking for a chill, great-tasting, and affordable meal. read more
