This place is a joke. I came here with my parents who were celebrating their 30th anniversary and it was more of a funeral that a celebration. We had two elderly, handicapped people in our group so we requested that we be seated at a table. We were then led to a booth and after we reminded them that we had requested a table we were seated at a table meant for 4, only there were six of us. We had no flatware at the table and it took awhile for the waitress to come by with our drink order. She was very busy so we didn't mind the bit of the wait. After she brought out the bread, we pointed out that we had no silverware with which to spread the butter and she said "Yeah, I know". She then proceeded to dump an handful of silverware on the table and walk off. After we were finished with our appetizer, we had a stack of plates and multiple empty glasses sitting on our table. They were still there when they brought out our food which made for incredibly awkward shuffling considering we were at a small table to begin with. My grandmother asked the waitress if they had any biscuits because my great-grandma can't chew crusty bread. She simply answered "No" and gave no alternative options, despite the fact that I had seen croissants on the menu. My grandma asked if they had plain white bread and they did so we got that. My mother had ordered a side caesar salad and a chicken breast. What she got was a half breast that looked as if Edward Scissorhands was the chef. We asked to speak with the manager and he said that it was sliced for a salad. Uh, no. This was a piece of chicken jerky (it was horribly dry) that had been hacked at and then thrown on a plate. She requested a new breast and asked for some seasoning on the second one. By the time the second breast came out, everyone was finished with their lunch. The second breast was indeed a full breast and while nice and juicy, had the same lack of seasoning as the first. Considering they sell several dishes with seasoned chicken breasts, I don't understand why they couldn't have just given her one of those. My grandmother's salmon was dry and the other dishes we ordered (meatloaf, fish and chips, and a French Dip) were adequate but nothing amazing. The au jus for my French Dip was warm but not hot. By the time the meal was over, we had empty glasses all over the table because our waitress would bring refills but not remove any glasses. When we got the check, the two chicken breasts had been taken off of the tab. Each only cost $3.49 so it wasn't as if the restaurant was going out of their way to make things up to us. Honestly, this was some of the worst service I have ever received and I am shocked that they didn't offer to at least comp the drinks as well. This was a favorite restaurant of my parents but they will not be going back. read more

My mom has been trying to get me to try this place for a while and my husband and I had to got REI, so we tried this place since it wasn't too far from there. The restaurant has a chain-feel (which it is one, so duh). It has an American-French decor, but it's not done very well. It feels like Christy Mae's meets Applebees, honestly. I had the Eggs Florentine Benedict with the Hollandaise sauce on the side. It wasn't too bad. The potatoes had too much garlic salt, but otherwise my meal was satisfactory. My husband had a side of sausage links (2) and a side of fruit. The side of fruit was very disappointing-a slice of honeydew, a slice of cantaloupe, and two orange slices. I don't know how much that cost, but considering it's the peak of summer right now, some seasonal fruit (berries) should be included. Boo. The service was fine-nothing remarkable, but not bad at all. Overall this place was okay. I don't have any desire to go back, but probably will try it with my mother some time, maybe for lunch. We tried to go for lunch on Mother's Day and there was a 45 minute wait. We went on Sunday morning, 9:30 am or so and I expected it to be packed, but it wasn't at all. I have been to the Mimi's Café in Oceanside/Carlsbad, CA several times back in 2003 when we were stationed there. It was one of our favorite places. We tried the one here in ABQ last weekend. It was okay, the French onion soup was just as I remembered it. I had the chicken crepes, I was not very impressed with the flavors. Our server was quick on the tea refills, which made my husband happy. I would probably go back for a lite lunch of the soup and salad. The inside didn't seem as clean as it could have been. First off, I'm glad I gave this place a second chance. The first time we went there (probably 2 or so years ago), we waited 10 minutes at the front (no other customers were there) and no one came to help or seat us, so we left. We tried this place again about 4 months ago after we heard some very good reviews. The food is great! I had the quiche and my husband had the chicken meal that they have. The prices are decent (They have a 3 course meal for like $13). I went there and picked up a quart of their tomato basil soup (it's amazing). Unfortunately, on my way home, it tipped over and spilled all over the passengers side of my car. I went back to buy a new quart (I still wanted it, after all), and the hostess gave me the new quart of soup for free (with a smile). Disappointing. Our first experience at Mimi's Cafe was for breakfast a few weeks ago. I had the Crab Cake Florentine Benedict and my boyfriend had the Eggs Florentine Benedict. Both items came with red skin potatoes and juice. My Crab Cake Florentine Benedict was overly salty, overly fishy, and didn't even have an English muffin, which I thought was pretty weird for an eggs benedict. The red skin potatoes had too much salt too and the orange juice that comes with the meal was SMALL. The Eggs Florentine Benedict was okay, but nothing we'd go back for. Service was mediocre. Our waiter didn't really come back to check on us until we were finished eating. This place is super expensive for the horrible food we paid for. Will most likely not be going back. read more

I can't say a bad thing about the place. I was expecting a Marie Callendar's vibe from the outside of the place, but was pleasantly surprised to find a quirky creole-french thing going on inside. This worried me for a moment because the last kitschy restaurant I visited was full of obnoxious staff trying to up sell us on everything, but as soon as we met out waitress I knew it wouldn't be like that. Let the good times roll indeed. I had chicken crepes, my favorite person had the pot pie. Everything was delicious. We would have tried dessert, but we were too full after cleaning our plates. Our waitress was attentive but not overly intrusive. She got the job done and made sure we were happy without a single annoyance. Bravo. I wish I had gotten her name. It's good to know management at Mimi's let's the staff be their own person. No crazy up sells or badgering the customers. I'd happily go back again. The menu has so much to offer. I need to try more of this food. I can't believe I spent 11 years in this city and I've never made it to Mimi's before now! Do yourself a favor and go. The english muffins seemed like they were soaked in greasy butter. The hollandaise sause was very bland. The ham was kinda cooked soft. And the coffee did not taste good. OK here is the deal. I am one of those types that mainly only gives bad reviews. If you are asking why i have an answer for you. I don't have the time nor do i believe normal random customers should go out of their way to give credit to a company that should be doing what they are paid to do. 95%+ of the places i visit do that so i have no need to leave a review. Now with that said, i do go out of my way to leave bad reviews. I have been to this place maybe 15 times in the last year if not more. I did takeout for the 1st time and when i got there they acted as if they seen ghost. Now I got there after they said i should and not before. I waited and waited and the guy showed up with just the boxes of food and nothing else. Then asked if i wanted more gravy as if i was gonna wait longer then i was already forced to wait. Let's just say i wanted something else... how much longer would that take? Considering i had to wait about 10 mins just for the food in boxes, i have no idea how much longer it would take for like the normal type stuff places just normally have ready in the bag with the food like napkins and silverware. read more

Normally, Mimi's would garner a 3.5, but because our server was super nice and the place was very clean, I'll give them the bump. Mimi's is the type of place that everyone's grandma would really enjoy. It's a canned (i.e. chain) French-style restaurant that's not haute cuisine. Fashioned like a little house on the outside, and full of French knick knacks inside, this place makes one feel cozy and slightly sentimental for no reason whatsoever. Food is all-American, with some French touches here and there. Croissants, beignets, croque mouisseur/madame, that type of thing. They serve wine, because c'mon it's French-ish. For what it's worth the burgers I had were very good. I also liked the tomato soup. Very clean inside and out. Whoever runs this place seems to understand that their white collar clientele from the surrounding office spaces will want a tidy place to enjoy their food. read more

We stopped here last Sunday, for a late dinner. We had to wait for someone to sit us, with a virtually empty restaurant. There was no hostess. Then we were seated and our server took his merry time. Eventually we got our drinks and ordered our food. The rib-eye steak was overdone (though we asked for it medium) and it was a really poor cut of meat. There was a glob of what I think might have been some sort of butter with garlic on top of the steak. Who puts butter on top of a steak?? My dinner partner said he wouldn't feed that steak to any dog. The rice was..well, boiled long grain white rice. No seasoning on it, just bland. The plates that were brought for the bread basket were dirty. One had dried green stuff on it. The one under it had leftover moist bread on it. Great. The "French baguette" was a bread stick warmed in the microwave. My 5 way cheese grilled cheese sandwich was overwhelmed by the garlic (again) so much I couldn't taste the cheese. The fries had either parsley or green garlic (yet again) on them...I have never seen anything like it before. All in all, a bad experience. Not sure how they stay in business in that area. read more

When we turned away from Farm & Table, we found Mimi's Cafe, and were sold on the Pain Perdu. We got three things to share, and all were really good. The Pain Perdu was my favorite, I think, but everything was super good. Best brunch I've ever had? No. But definitely in my top 5. Everyone was friendly, service was quick and good, coffee was really good for restaurant coffee, my only disclaimer is that in New Mexico, alcohol laws are weird. You can buy it basically anywhere, but you can't be served any before 11am or noon. If you're sold on their Mimosa menu for brunch, be aware of that. I would definitely go back when I'm the ABQ area again. read more

I agree with the previous reviewer...the food isn't fantastic but they are kid friendly. Within minutes of being seated...the server brought out a plate with crackers and cheerios on it for my 1 1/2 year old daughter. They must know how impatient kids can get waiting on food! This is one reason alone that we will come back here. My family here has a tradition of doing Friday night dinners and everyone takes turn weekly choosing a different place to eat...no one seemed to have any complaints here, which is always a plus for a party of 10+ !! Okay... the food isn't FANTASTIC or anything, but the french onion soup was good... their house wine was cheap and okay... and they are TOTALLY kid friendly! I went with my sister, brother in-law, and their 2 children (1 year old and 2 year old). My 1 yr- old niece LOVED my french onion soup (MORE PLEASE MORE MORE). We ordered them the kids mac and cheese (1 order to be split). They totally split it for us and it came with fruit (which le babies LOVED). Our server was very attentive and listened to all our requests (Can we get the kids water slightly AFTER they get their food so they don't fill up on water?). He executed these ridiculous requests (though truly helpful) to a T! It was great. Brownie dessert = yum. I don't like desserts, but sometimes i need me some FUDGE sauce. Done and DONE! read more

Used to love coming to Mimi's (mostly for the breakfast). On various holidays, like mother's and father's day, would have various breakfast specials. My favorite was the Mardi Gras omelet (bacon, ham, sausage, tomato, cheddar) over say the bacon avocado omelet. Very decent portion sizes and comes with seasoned roasted potatoes and usually opted for the muffin (such as honey bran or pumpkin). They also had a special one Sunday for eggs benedict, which they even cooked the egg to my liking (yes, I can be a little picky about half-cooked eggs). Another time, I came here for a dinner event. It started off with a house salad, bread, a small cup of French onion soup (very cheesy),and the Tuscan grilled chicken breast with mashed potatoes (which was just alright). No dessert for this round. The decor and patio tables in the front made you feel almost for a minute that you were somewhere else. I feel breakfast is more of their specialty than dinner, but maybe it's just me. Haven't been back in awhile I guess due to price increases, but otherwise good read more

The appetizer actually wasn't bad, we had quesadilla. I ordered a steak and my wife ordered a salad, this relatively small meal w/drinks were $50! I asked for a medium steak and got well, well done and my wife said the salad was just fine. I had to ask a waitress of oppurtunity (b/c mine disappeared) for steak sauce just to muscle this overcooked piece of meat down. I gave two stars because the food wasn't bad. The service was horrible! My husband asked for his vegetable to be made with no garlic. The waiter assured him that they would not be cooked with garlic. When they came out, of course they reeked of garlic! My husband was told that this was from the steaming. Upon closer examination, we found small slivers of garlic dotted throughout. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he insisted that it was not garlic but freeze dried garlic flakes! No apology, nothing! I really like the bread and madeline cookies that they bring out in the beginning. I also highly recommend the French dip and brie and mushroom burger. If you feel like something sweet there is usually brie with some sort of fruit preserves as an appetizer. I recommend ordering the blueberry muffin...it is perfectly moist and tasty. However, the reason why I am not giving a better rating is because service is just not up to par. Also, yesterday for dinner I asked for a burger and side salad. My plate with the burger was extremely hot and I was Kindly warned by the server HOWEVER my salad dressed with vinaigrette was also served on this exact plate so it was wilted and warm and gross. I didn't eat my salad and I choose not to request another one because by the time that this came out I'd be finished with my burger. read more

I just love Mimi's Cafe! The service is beyond excellent and the environment is clean, casual and homey. You get sitted quickly are not rushes to leave.I love the free bread basket with their homemade butter. The menu has so many choices, it's tough to make a decision whay to eat! There is breakfast all day which I love. I'm a big protein eater so I always get the turkey sausage with eggs and toast. My friends get the omletes, I've tried them...so good!! I highly recommend the mimosas flight. It's comes with orange juice, cranberry juice and peach juice. They serve it with a small bottle of champagne so I recommend that I'd you want the dull mimosa experience, ask for a second bottle to top you off. I love their corn chowder soup bit unfortunately they are always out of it, even when it's like 2pm...aside from some items that are not always available, the food is delicious. They offer a 'Thanksgiving dinner in a box' during the season and it's amazing (for you non cooks like me). Comes with a cooked turkey (takes two hours in the oven), mash potatoes, gravy, cranberry, green bean casarol, buns and a pumpkin pie, you can't beat that! Super bummed at new menu. All the items we come in for are off the menu. No more Chicken Pot Pie ( it was the best) No more Crepes! Really whose idea was to remove the crepes from a French Cafe?? When we come in for brunch we usually have the crepes, and for dinner. The chicken, spinach , mushroom crepe.....Gone. The little muffins that come in the bread basket GONE ( well you can add a loaf for 3.99) Prices have increased ( of course) with all my ( And I imagine others) favorites off the menu, and with the price increase, it would be unlikely that I would return. I would usually come 3-4 times a month for the past 5 years. Not really an understanding of the restaurant demographic here in Albuquerque.. Mostly older. Not really a $17 salad crowd... I'm not a huge breakfast person so a friend of mine brought me here. I had the steak and eggs so it was a perfect combination of breakfast and lunch. The steak was cooked to perfection and the potatoes were unbelievably good. Not only that but the service was excellent as well. I didn't catch the gentleman's name but he was very attentive to us. I ended up loving it so much I brought my grandparents here for our weekly lunch 2 days later. I ordered the grilled cheese and Ceasar salad, my grandpa got the French onion soup, and my grandma got the turkey sandwich. All of us absolutely LOVED our meals. Perfect amount of food for them, they get full very easily. I wasn't able to finish mine so I asked for a to-go box. The reason I wanted to leave a review at all was our server Andrea. She was phenomenal! She got us everything we asked for without seeming like we bothered her. I ended up forgetting my food on the table, but Andrea BROUGHT IT OUT TO ME IN THE PARKING LOT. Mimi's Is one of the best restaurants in Albuquerque. We have always had good service, excellent food, and the atmosphere is charming. Yesterday I had the chef salad and it was so fresh and delicious. My husband had fish and it was also fresh and nicely cooked. Our waiter, Jeff, was extremely pleasant and checking on us to see if everything was ok (but not overly bearing). Mimi's is a real gem and we drive across town (20 miles) to eat there. read more
