I am a great fan of Mimi's cafe so our dinner on Mother's Day was especially disappointing. First, we had reservations for 16 people at 5:30. ( We have a large family so the party was actually just my husband and I, six of our children, six grand childen and two partners.) Upon arriving we were told there would be a 15 minute wait. No reason why. We waited, which was not easy with four children age 2 and under. After 20 minutes, one of our party approached the manager. We were told another party was lingering at our table and we could go back to the room with our table and just hang out at the booths surrounding them until the other party left. We were finally seated although our "table" was actually a table and two booths, so we were not seated together after all. We were told ten could sit on one table, four more in a booth and the last two in a separate booth. One of my daughters was unable to attend so we squeezed into the table and one booth. We had eaten there before at one big table, so we were disappointed. One table was able to order drinks which were delivered before the other table was able to order drinks. We were then informed that for Mother's Day we were only allowed to choose from two appetizers, two salads, two soups, seven entree choices and three desserts. They were not serving a full menu. Once the waiter took our orders, he had to come back and tell us one of the entree choices was no longer available and to order something else. We waited a long time for our food and finally, the salads arrived quickly followed by the appetizers and entrees. I did not have enough room for all the plates at once. I really would have liked my appetizer first and to finish one course before the next was delivered. My dish came with broccoli, but they were out of that so they just left it out with no substitution. The serving sizes were inconsistant. My husband go four slices of turkey while my son, who ordered the same dish, only got two. Finally, it was time for dessert. Once again, we were told that, although the desserts of apple pie and berry crumble came with a scoop of ice cream, they were out of ice cream. The children's dessert was normally a scoop of ice cream so they were out of luck. The desserts were included in the meal so I insisted that they give us a substitute for the children. I mean, what were we supposed to tell them. Just sit back kids and watch us eat dessert. When the desserts arrived, a waitress carried three of the dishes to help out our waiter. She stood behind our waiter and asked quietly who ordered the berry crumble. When no one answered immediately, she rolled her eyes and sighed in a very rude way. The apple pie was warm and covered with a caramel sauce. At least mine was. Others in our party got an ice cold slice of pie served under the caramel. Very disconcerting for them. All in all, not a pleasant outing. I was very disappointed in Mimi's Cafe. Their one saving grace was our waiter, Chase. He was a delight and tried his hardest to serve our large party. We were not happy with the restaurant, but Chase got a large tip from all of us. So, Chase, that one star is for you. read more

Tonight we tried Mimi's for the first time, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed! The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, we were able to have a conversation without having to speak louder than usual. Food was good, priced a little towards the higher side but still reasonable and comparable with other local restaurants. What impressed me the most was our server "Carly". She was FANTASTIC! She paid attention to our table without being a helicopter, she came by regularly to check on us but was not overbearing about it. Anything we needed was handled immediately with a smile! Do not waste your time or money here the service is awful and so is the food. Small portions and the food is way over priced for what you get. Not sure how they're still in business but if you're looking for a great breakfast place First Watch is great and so is The Original Pancake house! For lunch you'd be better off getting McDonalds. I came here with a large group for a late brunch. It's a cute little French Cafe restaurant. They serve breakfast all day which is a huge bonus for me. The servers and bartenders were all very nice. The owner even came by a few times to check on us. I knocked off one star for a combination of things; the drinks were inconsistent between bartenders, the food is a hit expensive, and the bathroom was in a bit of a disarray (which was so different than the dining room which was very clean). None of the offenses were really enough on their own, but all together they would make me rate it 3.5-4 stars. Made advance reservations for Thanksgiving. Showed up at 2:00pm, the time of our reservation, and the place was completely packed, standing room only in the lobby and the only available table was a high top in the noisy lobby which won't work because my father wears hearing aids from his military days and wouldn't be able to hear. Sitting at a high top by the bar in the crowded lobby wasn't what I envisioned for a nice Thanksgiving dinner. Host was very argumentative that we had a reservation and wouldn't take the table they had. Despite having a reservation ended up waiting close to an hour to be seated. Walk-ins appeared to be seated before those with reservations. Got to sit in your lobby commiserating with all your other angry customers who also had reservations made months in advance. Finally sat on outdoors lawn chairs they had brought in from their patio. Waitress was very nice but flustered by the additional kitchen delays. You had a fixed menu so why couldn't the kitchen keep up? Why did you open and accept reservations for Thanksgiving if you would be short staffed and unable to accommodate it? i came here for my 18th bday brunch and let me say it was ~slap-a-lappin~ i had the smoked salmon omelette and the iced mocha and they must have taken some tips from ratatouille bc it was as good as if remi the rat fried it himself using his tiny lil paws. cooked to perfection the iced mocha was absolutely immaculate with every tiny sip. and the best part? the waiter was the best waiter ever. he told us many dad jokes and was so sweet and funny also he called my sister darling in a non creepy way. officially my fave waiter. i left him a nice note and i hope he has the best day ever. kevin if you're reading this have the best day ever read more

Oh good grief: I'm going to write an insanely positive review about a chain restaurant that's at Polaris and that's owned by Bob Evans. Barf. But I just can't help myself! I love Mimi's Cafe! Every couple of months, I just get a craving for some quasi-home-cooked, pseudo-French-country food. And I have never been disappointed by Mimi's. Oh, and it's reasonably priced. Three of us ate there last night for $60. C'mon y'all, $60 for delicious carrot bread, an appie, and three meals that consisted of soup, entree, and mini-dessert. And everything was super tasty. The interior is pretty darn cute too, and the servers are always friendly. I'm not going to be converting to chains anytime soon, but I can't pass up Mimi's! read more

FINALLY... a dependable breakfast spot and one that is ten times better than First Watch, Bob Evans, etc.! Mimis Cafe is a chain that originated on the West Coast and is slowly penetrating the Midwest and East Coast. MC is a family dining restaurant that generally attracts a more upscale clientele. The decor itself is quite hard to describe. There were two dining areas and each had their own feel and theme. My mom and I were seated at the New Orleans dining room, which definitely had a Mardi Gras vibe to it. To say it screamed Mardi Gras would be putting it lightly. There was ample seating when my mom arrived and we had a hard time deciding which table to choose... the typical booths comfy cushioned seats or the round booths with the equally comfy cushioned seats. Decisions. We opted for the former since it was just the two of us. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are quite overwhelming. I personally had a hard time deciding what to get for breakfast but finally decided on the Pain Perdu Breakfast (French toast stuffed w/ cream cheese and orange marmalade, two eggs, bacon, potatoes, and apple juice.) I didn't even have to add any maple syrup to my French toast since it was already quite yummy as it is with the hunk of cream cheese filling. My bacon sadly fared low on the crunch factor, so I ended up eating most of the potatoes which were really flavorful. My mom ended up ordering the Eggs Florentine Benedict, which was enjoyable as well. (It could very well be the wonders of the creamy hollandaise sauce.) And as an aside, mimosas and hibiscuses are both on the beverage menu. Dishes may seem pricey at first, but it's mostly due to the fact that dishes come with your choice of juice. In the end, prices are actually moderate. Service was also a different story. Maybe we picked a bad day to try MC, but we were stuck with one very curt waiter. Two waiters (including ours) ended up taking drinks and food orders for the table behind us. (One waiter even mentioned that "Everyone was running all over the place this morning when I arrived! It was like I stepped inside the Twilight Zone or something.") Needless to say, service was not up to par. It's too bad MC is out in Polaris, aka Traffic Nightmare, but I can still see myself coming back during lunch and dinner hours to sample their other offerings. I'll keep it short and sweet because in the process of looking for a place to have breakfast at this morning I lost my patience and almost skipped it all together. Here is the deal: My order consisted of hot tea and the French Brioche breakfast. It includes two eggs (any style) and a choice of bacon or sausage. The plus, it also includes a glass of juice (OJ, grapefruit, apple, tomato & cranberry.) FYI: they are not natural juices. French Brioche: my waitress best described it as a cinnamon roll turned into a french toast. Indeed it was. It came with butter and maple syrup. Unless you want to go into a diabetic seizure the french toast will do without the added sugar. I recommend it if you want something sweet to eat. Eggs and bacon: I ordered my eggs sunny side up. They were perfectly cooked -- not too runny nor dry. The bacon was balanced in both thickness and preparation. In brief, I was so hungry this morning I ordered another egg and side of bacon. It hit the spot. Service: quick, warm and efficient. The location is appropriate and parking not much of a hassle unless it's Sunday morning. If it gets full park in the lot across the grass. The walk will suit anyone who indulged in any of the menu items. :) Price: I paid $17 for the items described above. I'm covered and satisfied until tea or dinner time. I have been going here for a few years just not very often as it's across town. The atmosphere is that of a French café. The wait staff is attentive and the food is very good but rather pricey. I had my two kids out school shopping last night and they were BEGGING me to take them somewhere to eat. They kept "suggesting" California Pizza, but I was not in the mood so I forced them to go here. As we walked up to the door, my daughter, son and I were talking about trying new places and a lady coming out of the restaurant heard us and said well this place is "JUST OK." I thought...oh crap. This is gonna suck. But it DIDN'T SUCK at all. It was actually good. The carrot bread they give you is AMAZING!!! Especially with butter. The sourdough breadsticks are ok but not anything I'd mention to anyone. My kids both got chicken fingers and french fries. It looks like they bread the chicken fingers themselves and my kids said they were delicious. I got the avocado chicken sandwich and it was very tasty too. The avocados were nice and fresh & they didn't try to skimp on them either (a lot of companies are stingy with the cados!!) I will say, their fries do suck and suck bad. They were limp, soggy and cold. YUK! The coconut cream pie was good!!!! The crust was a little hard but it didn't stop me from smashing the whole piece (I did share with my son). Nothing about my experience was especially bad, but I can list a dozen brunch spots with better food at a better price. I'm just very underwhelmed by Mimi's. The wait was 45-50 minutes so we snagged a table at the bar. Nobody ever came to wait on us or even offer a drink so after 15 minutes we had to get up and ask. The sunrise mimosas we got were really good, but they the only thing we were given to drink even though we asked for waters several times. We ordered the apple bacon waffles and the strawberry & creme waffles. For $10 per plate, the portions were pathetic. The food was just ok. One plate came out cold. Again it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I had heard that you get muffins on your first visit, but nobody ever asked if we had been there before. I really only eat at this restaurant for Mother's Day because they always seem to be on their toes during that holiday due to the large amount of customers coming in. I had a very poor first impression with the hostess, Ashley. She was very unpleasant and ignored me as soon as I entered. Another women came over and asked me how many people would be dining in. I told her and Ashley and she let Ashley seat us after a very welcoming eye roll. She placed the menus and walked away without saying a single word. I'm not sure if she was just having a bad morning or what the problem was but she was very rude to us and many other tables that she seated. After that, our service was excellent and the egg white omelette and the mimosas were delicious. They did seem to be out of a few common brunch items but they were very apologetic and made substitutions when needed. Overall, I do enjoy this restaurant when I get to go for Mother's Day but the first impression upon entering made me feel very unwelcome and makes me question if should continue to bring my family to this restaurant. read more

A cute little french bistro that is nestled near the Polaris mall. I've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Today, I was there for lunch. I had the Turkey Pesto Ciabatto sandwich with kettle chips. Love the avocado on the sandwhich. I would recommend it. Every entree I have tried has been wonderful. Came here on Sunday early afternoon with a family group of 5. The food has been good here each time we've been here but the service can be sketchy - such as: Watched a waitress roll her eyes at a table of 2 couples that didn't answer a questions she asked - somewhat understandable but shouldn't be as noticeable. The "hosts assistant" would have rather not been working and had to wait for the male host to return before anything productive could get done. The booth seat was dirty with grease and the host watched me wipe it off as we were being seated - and didn't offer to help. Our waitress was fine (3) but she doesn't quite seem "into the job" either. Deciding where to eat lunch in the Polaris area feels a bit like being a 6 year old with free rein in the cereal isle. Sensory overload, too many choices and lots of things that look the same. Since I don't venture up this direction too often I didn't have a "go to" spot and almost ended up at (blah) Applebees. Luckily I remembered about a cute little place I'd dined at before ever moving to Columbus. Que Mimi's Cafe. Mimi's is 'ador' with it's Creole inspirations that translate to a very french (but not stuffy) and New Orleans (but not topless/Mardi Gras- yeah I know, color me disappointed too) ambiance. This place screams 'brunch', or 'Mother's Day' or 'Ladies who Lunch' but today my date and I decided to try Mimi's out on a regular ol' Monday in the middle of a work day. In the past I have ordered the Mama's Trio appetizer (fried zucchini, chicken tenders, and spinach and artichoke dip with bread, french of course), the turkey pesto on ciabatta bread ( mmmmm pesto,I have an 'I heart Pesto' bumper sticker) and the Cajun Chicken Alfredo. All 3 of these items were fabulous- flavorful and felt more unique than most chain restaurant food (i.e. Applebees). Today I ordered the Cobb Salad (small size- which was way more than enough) which came with a big ol' fresh muffin for only $7.99. I think they had an extensive list of muffin options but I happen to be in the bathroom when our order was taken and my date stated that he only heard "bla bla bla blueberry bla bla bla" Did I mention his favorite muffin is blueberry?? Don't worry yelpers, he's cute enough to make up for it (unless it would have been bran, even Gerard Butler couldn't make up for bran). Date ordered one of the lunch combo's that came with soup (or salad) and citrus grilled shrimp with asparagus and a light basalmic dressed salad on the side. The shrimp were incredibly flavorful and moist and served with a pesto aioli on top (did I mention my 'I heart Pesto' hand towel collection too?) The soup we chose was corn chowder which was hearty and had nice flavor: perfect on this blustery cold day. This combo was only $9.99 and the portion was great especially for a lunch (I think there were 8-10 shrimp total). Final thoughts: The menu is extensive, the service was dependable and friendly, the ambiance is a step above most chains. I think Mimi's claim to fame is probably more so breakfast oriented but there is plenty to choose from at lunch or dinner too. Even with the overwhelming choices in the Polaris area, I would not hesitate to go back. Wow this place was great. We came on Veterans Day Sunday and got seated right away. My parents ordered the smoked turkey plate and I got the pot pie based on our server's recommendation, which was epic, homemade, and to die for! The food was fantastic. The service was even better. Our waitress was on it. She was busy but she touched each table on every go round. She thanked my parents for their service twice and thanked us when we left. I'd say this was the best service I've had in awhile. We also ordered dessert. I got creme brulee which would have been perfect had the sugar top not been burned but it was still decent. My mom got the chocolate chip bread pudding which she liked and my dad got the Apple pie which he enjoyed. It was a good vibe, busy but not hectic, and again I can't say enough about the great service our waitress provided. Prices were affordable, entrees were between $10-16. I've resisted going here because apparently this chain is owned by Bob Evans and, well, it's a chain. Give me Nancy's, Wildflower Cafe, Northstar Cafe, or The Whitney House for breakfast/brunch any day. But, a friend suggested Mimi's Cafe for breakfast prior to an impromptu Polaris shopping trip, and it was convenient. First impression: holy mole, is this where all of suburban America comes to have brunch during the weekends? I tripped over approximately three gazillion small, unattended, and wildly running about children while making my way to our table. Also, I prefer a smaller menu during breakfast/brunch. That's because I'm hangry (hungry + getting angry because I'm so hungry) and I don't want to consult the 200+ ways I can have an omelette. But, Mimi's Cafe is one of those places with many, many options if that's your thing. Additionally, you can also order off the lunch menu during breakfast (or so it appeared when I visited). So, options galore. Anyways, both my friend and I settled on the veggie omelets, which sounded delicious (goat cheese! veggies! potatoes on the side!). I added bacon to mine because I certainly didn't want to be too healthy. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity (or 35 mins, which is kind of long for breakfast), our entrees arrived. Or kind of. My friend got her omelette and potatoes, but no toast. Mine was under cooked with the eggs still runny in the middle, no bacon, no potatoes, and no toast. Oh, we also didn't have silverware! Or ketchup (don't serve breakfast potatoes en masse without ketchup on the tables!). I will say that our server, once I was able to track her down by wandering aimlessly around the restaurant for a few minutes, made a valiant attempt to correct the situation. Though she did disconcertingly say "Have you taken a bite of your omelet? It might be someone else's! If so, I could still drop it off to another table." Anyways, about 15 minutes later, my friend had received her potatoes and toast, and I had a serviceable omelet, with the appropriate sides. And ketchup! I should also mention that manager kindly took off my omelet off my check because it was originally not made correctly.
