I ordered food via delivery to my hotel today as I had a late night and needed to get some work done. I didn't dine in so I can't comment on the service or ambiance. I had the croque madame (croque senior with a fried egg on top) and it was fabulous. Two pieces of focaccia or some similar type of bread with Swiss ham and bechamel sauce in between. It was superb. Very well made and so delicious. The hand squeezed orange juice was also good (although I wish I had ice but I realize that is not normal probably) and a size of baguette. This spot was a gem when we lived in Columbus and it opened in the 1990s, so we were excited to stop in while traveling through. Sadly, the experience didn't match our memories. The early 5 p.m. closing time caught us off guard, and the décor looks exactly as it did decades ago. The bathroom also needed attention, with a broken dispenser and a roll of toilet paper sitting on the sink. The Caesar salad--once a standout--was disappointing this time. I would say historiclaly my rating has been around a 3. I've tried a fair share of their menu items such as their fruit tarte (3), breakfast special (3), eggs benedict (3) and croissants(3.5 - 4). The best thing I've had is their croissant. For their lunch items I've tried Vol Au Vent and beef bourguignon (both 3). The service always has been meh, around a 2 or 3. Today was my worst experience by far. I got a quiche lorraine and a french onion soup to go. When I went home the french onion soup did not have croutons or cheese with it, which I feel like is my favorite part of this soup. I did not realize you had to pay extra nor was I asked if I wanted this. The quich lorraine in the past has been around a 3.5. This one tasted like soap. I don't know if someone thing got into the eggs or dough but it was awful and I'd rate it a one. I was very bummed about my experience today and lack of service and likely won't be back here for a while. If I am really craving a croissant I may come back, but I feel like there are better places for quiches, french onion soup and breakfast in the area that are also cheaper. read more

For me, Le Chat always delivers as a breakfast or lunch option. Unpopular opinion in my friend group, but I'm not a "full plate" breakfast eater. I prefer a coffee and a carbohydrate source. So I love the cafe au lait and a croissant from here. Since it's a European bakery, the pastries run a little less sweet than at an American style bakery. I like this, but FYI. My most recent visit, we just did coffees and croissants as a lite breakfast before my friend caught a flight. She is not local, so she was charmed. I found it as enjoyable as always. I like the dark wood, wooden tables vibe! I loved my chocolate croissant and cafe au lait with vanilla. They serve lattes in big latte bowls with no handles, so use caution when the thing first comes out! This visit, I did not have lunch, but their Casear salad and brikette are my favorite at lunch time. I enjoy the cafeteria style service, it's laid back and, if you're there off hours, pretty relaxed. Le Chat is a Columbus fav, so during busy hours it's, well, pretty busy! read more

In a place known for its pastry game, we opted to go the brunch/lunch route for a recent dine-in experience. Immediately upon walking in, you see the breads, cakes and sweets that make you want to gain 15 pounds at once. Stepping further into the dining room, the place feels classic and intimate, similar to lodge. You order your food in essentially a cafeteria lunch line. The benefit is that you can see the beautiful hot dishes waiting to be added to your tray The poutine came out hot. Rather than a gravy base, the frites were covered in a bolognese sauce and topped with Swiss cheese. Unique - yes. But overall it tasted like a dish less than the sun of its parts. My wife went for the Eggs Benedict which I sampled. Four star worthy but the little side salad didn't have any dressing and really could have been omitted. Stoppped by for Sunday brunch, not quite busy. You basically fall in line, place your order and pick an open table & they bring food to your table. We tried the spinach omelette in egg whites which was the special for the day and escargot. The spinach was as bland as it could possibly be. The Escargot was okay it came with a baguette, just swimming in way too much oil. The french onion soup though was tasty. The hot chocolate was served in a bowl. Latte was decent. I have to say most of the stuff they serve has no flavor, kind of like those old style cafeterias where mostly old people go, except for the quiche I ordered which was so salty I couldn't force it down. Unless you're a local, this eatery can be a little confusing. There's 2 registers--one for bakery items/bread and the other one to order any breakfast/lunch/dinner menu items. You order at the 2nd register, grab your number, utensils and pay at the end of the line. Afterwards, you find a table and someone will bring your food to you. It can be a little chaotic depending on how busy it gets. I like to meet at this place for book club meetings or just catching up with family/friends over some delicious yet simple food. I like going here for brunch, lots of options--you can go for a salad, soup and sandwich combo or go for a sweet and/or savory breakfast plate like we got here. This spot had been on my radar for a while after a fellow Yelp Elite informed me that they had their absolute favorite croissant in Columbus. That's a pretty serious claim and I had to put it to the test! We arrived to find a packed parking lot with just enough spots for us to squeeze in our cars. This was obviously a good sign! Busy on a late Friday morning, note taken. When we walked through the doors I was taken aback by the old school, French bakery vibe and the smells of freshly baked goods. My only complaint was that there wasn't anyone there to greet us and as first timers, we had no clue how this business operated. After referencing Yelp, we learned that the process is that of a cafeteria. Grab a tray, work your way down the line, and pay at the very end. While the placement of things made this experience a little jumbled, we eventually made our way to the check out. My friend and I decided to share a cherry pastry, I ordered the breakfast sandwich (on a croissant, of course) and she went with the eggs benedict. We picked up the pastry while in the cafeteria line so we tried that first and goodness was it good! The pastry dough was flaky, golden, and the perfect home for the glazed cherry filling. Splitting it in half and sharing was a wise decision for our waistline. It didn't take but maybe ten minutes for our meals to arrive at the table and I was blown away at the size of my breakfast sandwich. Egg, swiss cheese (I opted for no meat), and a giant croissant took up almost the entire plate. I honestly couldn't finish more than half of it after snacking on the cherry pastry. I love swiss cheese in my eggs so that was a winner and the croissant was perfect. Do yourself a favor and put this adorable French cottage/bakery on your bucket list for places to try in Columbus. Met my wife there for lunch. This is about as close you can get to a french lunch without being in france. The ambience reminded me of the cozy restaurants you would find there. I came in with a group of 12 (2 adults and 10 teenagers). I did call ahead, but because of construction, we were 20 minutes late. The staff could not have been nicer. Not only were they quick with service, but extremely patient as well. The food was delicious, and one of my students, who was just in France over the summer said "I felt like I was back in Paris!" It was such a good experience, we might make this an annual trip. Even the kids remarked afterwards how nice everyone was to them. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday for a mid morning snack. I was craving a cappuccino and chocolate croissant... and ordered just that. Both were satisfying! The croissant was butter and flaky... but was a tad bit dry. I also very much enjoyed my cappuccino. My boyfriend also liked his order. We came at the perfect time. I was really looking forward to having a nice lunch and it just missed the mark. First off, it took 30 minutes for our food to be ready on a to go order. Was long when we were not informed it would take that long. I ordered a Bre Sandwich toasted and when I got home I noticed it was cold and not toasted at all. The Bre didn't even cover 1/4th of the sandwich. I was basically eating bread. I also got a tomato soup and unfortunately just did not like it. However, we also got the special of the day sandwich that I thought was really good. Saved the review from being lower. It was a busy Sunday so maybe they just had a bad day.
