We were surprised to arrive at 5:30 on a Sunday evening and find plenty of space in the parking lot, while the neighboring tavern was jam-packed. The answer appeared to be a sign on the front door: "Mimi's is temporarily not serving alcohol." Which was a lucky break because there was no wait. The quiche Florentine was wonderful, although the salad that accompanied it had greens too big to eat gracefully; a bit of tearing would've made it better. My friends liked the grilled salmon and jambalaya, each of which came with that same salad, and we were entertained by ducks and/or geese on the lake adjoining our fenced patio. (One intrepid goose approached the fence and happily accepted some croutons.) Nice atmosphere, very good food. read more

Met friends here for brunch today. Got right in at 10am on Saturday, which was very nice. It's big, nicely decorated, with comfy seating. We had a big party who sat and talked awhile, plus Baby K, and service was great the whole way through. There were a couple of small mistakes, but they were corrected as soon as we mentioned them. Prices are reasonable, and the food was better than I expected. I'd read the reviews and was prepared for anything. Baby K got a kids' pancake meal- several pretty darn big pancakes, decorated like a puppy face. She loved that. A few berries made up the mouth and eyes, which was a nice touch. Her side was Gogurt, which of course she liked, and she got a small lemonade. Sweetie had pancakes and bacon, and said they were good. Our friends had a steak and an omelette, I believe, and liked them. I got one of the specials, pulled pork on potatoes (home fries.) You're always taking a chance when you order BBQ at a non-BBQ place, but this was actually pretty decent. Good meat, smoky flavor, not drowning in sauce. Good potatoes. The order seemed sized like an app, so I was still a little hungry; maybe they should serve it with a side salad or something (for health and value.) Still, pretty good. So I give Mimis 3.5 stars. The food is decent, nothing extraordinary. Honestly. The menu is huge. It's like a bistro, french cuisine, comfort food restaurant. We were a party of 10 and I felt the server did a good job at servicing our table, keeping our drinks filled, and being friendly and efficient. The shrimp pasta looked good, but my friend who ordered said it was loaded with garlic. I ordered the trio pick 3 for $10.99(choice of sandwich, salad, soup, side or dessert). My onion soup was great, my western reuban was lacking in flavor and ingredients and my salad was okay. They also bring baguette bread and some yummy raisin bread for the table. The atmosphere is charming and the outdoor seating looks out onto a water fountain/pond. Management was pretty generous in accepting my gift card that was expired. Yesterday was my third visit, after two pretty good ones. Sadly, third time is not the charm as my group was underwhelmed across the board. My bacon-avocado omelette was served with slices of tomato and bacon on top like it was a cheeseburger, not breakfast, and was bland. My dads minor request for no potatoes as a side (to avoid wasting food he knew he wouldn't eat) was met with annoyance and ultimately ignored. My wife's pancakes tasted like they were frozen and reheated in a toaster. Coffee cups ran empty. Really disappointing. read more

The food here is just terrible. We really regret our decision to eat brunch here today. What a waste of money. The food is really overpriced and incredibly bland. I got the 2 egg breakfast with turkey sausage and a blueberry muffin. The eggs were cooked to my specification, but the turkey sausage was dry, shriveled up, and had a strange, yet bland flavor to it. I tried to eat it, but just couldn't do it. The roasted potatoes were dry and crunchy like they were fried. They didn't taste good either. The muffin was okay, but the texture makes me think it came from a mix containing a lot of sugar. My hubby wasn't happy with his food either. He got corned beef hash with eggs and toast. His food was bland as well. The toast was served dry with margarine on the side. He said the "whipped margarine" was disgusting, and just ended up putting grape jelly on it. One of the "specials of the day" was liver and onions. That should've been a warning. When we were getting ready to leave, someone around us was served seafood (perhaps shrimp?) and the smell was so strong, it smelled like it wasn't exactly fresh. (I bet they're gonna regret that food decision later!) We were so glad it was time to leave! The server was nice, and that's the only reason I'm not giving them one star. was looking for a brunch place while I had some family out of town. Decided to try Mimi's café after hearing from a couple people that it was good. Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan, they have ample nano seating and service was great, but not a huge fan of their menu or options for food. They do have multiple options in the menu which I think can actually get overwhelming. We ended up getting one of the burgers with fries, along with a breakfast omelette with the Santa fe you and toast on the side. The portion size was actually really great. I'm in very large and very shareable amongst the table but I felt like my burger wasn't very flavorful and was expecting a little bit more. This is basically an American bistro with a bit of a French twist... Ambiance Unique and somewhat cool interior which seems to want to make you feel like you're either in France or New Orleans. Whimsical decorations and French street signs throughout with background music that sometimes sounds like what you'd hear in a Paris cafe and sometimes sounds like what you'd hear on a weird techno pop radio station. Two fairly good sized dining rooms with lots of booth seating and tables as well with a large back room that was used for a private party on one of our visits. Free WiFi is available throughout. We have never had a wait here though usually come on Sunday evenings. Service Service can be spotty and never seems genuinely consistently friendly. One particular manager always seems to have such a sour face all the time though we never interacted with him much. Managers are never in the dining room mingling with or checking on guests. Food They have a varied menu with standard American fare (turkey and dressing, for example) as well as a "taste of France" section with things like French pot roast. We've tried things from all over the menu. Consistently things appear on the plate nowhere near like pictured in the menu. The roast chicken looked brown and herby in the menu and appeared pale and pink on the plate. Similar issue with the French pot roast. Both tasted fairly ok. The pot roast had a nice flavor with hints of wine, and the chicken was very juicy and tender. The bread basket with the meal is usually very good, and the muffin served with the entree salads are also very good. Tip: do the survey on your menu for two free muffins next time. The desserts tend to be pretty good as well. The croissant bread pudding is a favorite. Mojo Overall this place has a fun interior decor and fairly tasty if not always aesthetically pleasing food. My mom had a blueberry muffin and quiche Lorraine which came with potato. She felt the chunky potatoes were a bit undercooked. Overall the only complaint. Excellent service, she came by to check and provide coffee refills regularly. With our bill she presented us with 2 complimentary muffins since it was out first visit. Menu price is $1.99-muffin. We've been enjoying trying different restaurants with door dash while in quarantine. We ordered omelet and then scrambled eggs and pancakes. Bacon was good. Pancakes I'd give a 7, tasted more like boxed. But the omelet and scrambled eggs were just barely palatable and only because I was hungry. I've never had an omelet that I had to cut with a knife. The food was still good temp so it wasn't a travel issue. My sons scrambled eggs were tough too. I don't even know how you can make an omelet like that. Maybe they were precooked and microwaved. Yuck. Even the home fries seemed like they had previously cooked and then reheated. The only saving grace was the blueberry crumble muffin. Went here recently and the food was so flavorless, for a second, I thought I had covid. My girlfriend ordered their Ribeye ($25) that came out overdone and cold. This $25 ribeye was about a quarter inch thick and of similar quality to the steak you'll find at Waffle House. The mashed potatoes that came with the meal were also cold, and did not taste like food. Appetizer was a trio of some of their popular ones. All completely flavorless, and either overdone or underdone. I ordered their jambalaya for my entree, which again, was flavorless. The server was very nice, but had pretty bad pacing throughout the meal. We were served salads and our entrees when we had just started on the appetizer. This has been the only time I have ever asked for an item to be taken off of my bill at a restaurant. I ate my jambalaya and picked at the app quite a bit, but my girlfriend couldn't eat the steak or mashed potatoes, so as bad and uncomfortable as it made me feel, I asked to have her meal removed from my bill, which would have been close to $70. $70 for meals that had less flavor than a TV dinner. I have never had this bad of an all-around experience at a restaurant. The only positive was that their staff was nice, apologetic, and understanding. But it will take a lot more than that to have customers return. read more

What has happened to Mimi's Cafe? Is this just another restaurant that is "a casuality" of the pandemic, or would it have just gone down hill regardless? This place used to be "a cut above" (big chef-made quiches, thick sliced bacon, great bakery items, fresh squeezed orange juice...) and now it is poorer quality than Waffle House (super-thin bacon...can see through it), juice that lacked any definable taste (we ordered both orange juice and grapefruit juice...both were terrible...orange juice had to be 1/2 water and grapefruit juice was more like "fruit punch" and could not be described as grapefruit juice). The quiche HAS to be frozen and just heated (a "tiny tart" is more like it). Crust tasted freezer burned and dried out and is now a 1/4 the size they used to be. The breakfast potatoes were SO tough and dried out, that we couldn't spear them with our fork (more like cooked hours ago and just kept hot in a drying oven). The final straw was the two SIMPLE over-easy eggs that had runny, gloppy egg whites running out of them (yuck)...see attached picture. I mentioned Waffle House...you know what you are getting there and the price reflects that (but even they know how to make eggs over-easy). The prices at Mimi's Cafe are absurd for the poor quality you get now... Has the company been sold? I would never have predicted such a nosedive on the food quality and prep from what was once a great breakfast (and lunch) spot. read more

Excellent restaurant with some throwback dishes like Liver & Onions which my wife selected and only gave me a biteful. Our waitress was covering the entire restaurant and did a wonderful job. This is one of those places where you can go with a big group and everyone can find something they like. We will be back on our many visits to Columbus while our son is in college. read more

My wife and I had dinner at Mimi's Café yesterday evening and the French food we ate was fantastic! She had the New York strip while I had the pot roast dinner. Both were excellent. The baked brie was delicious as was the French onion soup. One of the most outstanding items we loved was the bread and brown gravy--we even took some home with us. We finished our meal with chocolate lava cake and vanilla ice cream which we both enjoyed very much. Chase, our waiter, was very attentive to our needs. He was personable and brought our food to us quickly. I highly recommend Mimi's Café to anyone who wants great French cuisine at affordable prices. read more

Great food- I love breakfast so this is a perfect place for me to eat! The waffles are always tasty. They know how to properly cook eggs over medium. And, the coffee is spot on! The only bad thing is the host staff doesn't seem to know if they accept reservations- you call, they don't- you go, and table after table have reservations. Still don't know if they do or don't. I hadn't been to Mimi's in a while but stopped in recently with some friends. The pictures in the menu immediately sold me on the salmon salad. I looked over the other options just to be sure but finally decided I had to try that salad. It did not disappoint. It was a spinach salad with boiled egg, mushrooms, green onions, and tomatoes. All of that was smothered in a bacon balsamic vinaigrette, although I have to say I couldn't really taste the bacon. The piece of salmon on top was cooked to perfection and must have been pretty fresh, because it didn't taste all that fishy. It didn't seem that they served as much bread in the bread basket as they used to, but there was a nice variety as usual. I definitely had leftovers of my salad, because it was quite large. The salmon was probably at least 4 oz; it was quite a large piece. read more

The booth. The seat to table ratio was way off. Table too tall, distance from seat-back to table was too far - making you sit forward when you're eating, combining these two problems causes you to strain your back, and reach up while eating which is a 2/10 booth situation. Went for a late (10 am) breakfast meet up with some gal pals on a Saturday. We thought there might be 6 of us - but only 4 showed. Regardless, we were seated at a large table right away. The waitress was NOT attentive. I think it was a good 10 minutes between the time I ordered a cup of decaf and the time I got it. She also did not check back often and it was a LONG time before she event inquired about our order. Fortunately, we were not in a rush as we were there to chat for 1.5-2 hours. Two ordered quiche and one got an omelette. I only ordered cup of fruit to be polite as I'm not a breakfast person by any measure. Coffee is the ONLY part of breakfast I enjoy and in fact require. All the food was fine. The prices on the entrees were around $12. More than I would pay for lunch if I were to eat out at a sit down restaurant. The fruit cup was $3 and came with about 6 pieces of fruit. NOT a good deal. So I cut each into really small pieces to stretch it out. I will not likely return if I have a choice. I preferred fries to the roasted potatoes and had to remind the server about the sourdough toast which didn't seem like sourdough bread at all, but it's just bread.
