My wife got their half sandwich and soup combo, also a great value. Our daughter got the Puppy Dog Pancakes, so fun and include a drink. Today the waitress brought us a glass with some kind of red stuff in the glass, tried to scratch it off but was inside the glass, yuck. The server was great, accommodating, and apologized for the dirty dish. The omelet comes with a muffin but this time the muffin was half the size they normally are. Mimi's Cafe what happened to you!!! We were there yesterday for Thanksgiving and what a disappointment !!!! Even though I have to admit that the test was good but where was the turkey???! An incredibly thin slice over the stuffing when I asked the waitress she said that she told the cooks already that the turkey portions were too small but he didn't mind! Mimi's Cafe was my son's favorite place to eat at Thanksgiving and since he passed away I wanted to keep the tradition in his memory but honestly I am sure that he will forgive me for never going back at Mimi's Cafe for Thanksgiving Dinner! We ordered food under the impression that this place is the same as it was years ago. The food looked horrid and we decided to go and meet the manager. The waitress gave us the run around and kept telling us their manager is not going to be there until Wednesday and she is texting him back and forth. After waiting for half hour some guy stepped out and claimed he is the manager. He was hostile and rude and didn't want to refund our card. There were hardly any people there, maybe four customers if any. We tried calling the headquarters and the phone number has expired. So you can't reach anyone. What a disappointment! read more

Terrible food and service. We ordered a club sandwich and chicken pot pie. The club only included huge slices of Turkey and bacon. Both meals were un eatable. We went back to the location to speak with a manager. They said they didn't have one and wouldn't for days. Then an angry man calling himself Eric said he was the manager and demanded we leave. Mimi's has become my morning ritual--it's the closest thing I have to prayer. This place is so outstanding that I made a Yelp account. The food is nothing short of sublime. I've yet to try an item I didn't like, and the menu is varied and substantive. I usually come for breakfast which is served all day. You could come just for the muffins; they're so good you can order them to-go. My food also arrived incredibly quickly, though I tend not to order at peak hours. Mimis Irvine Stopped in for coffee and decided to have breakfast. I was very disappointed with my food. I ordered the corn beef and eggs breakfast. The corn beef was horrible due to the overpowering flavor of onion and scallions which tasted like they were not fresh. The smattering of corn beef was loaded with onions. The accompanying potatoes were not the tiny small potatoes I'm used to but large chunks of undercooked potatoes which required effort to cut with a fork. I informed the manager who graciously offered something else from the menu but declined due to the awful taste left by the onions. My son could not finish his potatoes either. A cheaper potato with less flavor cut into large chunks is not an acceptable option to charge the regular price. Forgot to mention I was not charged for the food. read more

Strike 1: Came in at 9:30AM on a weekday and although the place was almost empty they were seating customers in adjacent booths and tables (social distancing?). Strike 2: Home fries were bitter and smelled and tasted of rancid oil. Strike 3: Waitress replaced fries with fruit sides that seemed to have been previously frozen. Appreciate the effort on the servers part, but overall, this meal was on par with what I'd expect from a chain business motel, and I only eat at those because I have to. Mimi's is fine if you want to meet someone over coffee, but paying high-quality prices for low-quality meals makes puts it squarely in the Do Not Repeat category for me. read more

Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning, and as any place that serves breakfast on Sunday, it was crowded. We only had to wait 15 minutes for a table, but they had put out free coffee cake and fresh coffee in the waiting area, which I thought was a nice touch. Normally, I would say that Mimi's is a little pricey for what they have to offer. However, this doesn't seem to inhibit the steady flow of customers at this place. After more than 15 years going to that location, we were shocked by worst service and rudeness of our waiter and manager when visited on June 16th, 2024 at 2 p.m. After waiting for 35 minutes and complaining to manager food was delivered. Order was messed up, not what we asked for, not complete, food was cold, and our complaints were ignored by waiter and manager, who was so irritated, he couldn't control himself, refused to serve us, said we do not have to pay for food, which was cold anyway. His rudeness was unacceptable, not to say worse, our Father's Day lunch was ruined. We wonder what's happened to this location, which was our favorite place to eat before. Is it our new management? We were surprised that on Father's Day place was empty! Only 2 tables were occupied! We know why now. It's the worst service we ever experienced. I don't think Mimi's is French, but it's definitely a cafe and very kid-friendly. Some dishes are maybe French-inspired but definitely not French or even Cajun or Creole even though they have blackened stuff on the menu. I think the food here is above average for a chain and service is good. The lil guy loved the baguette and we had our server bring us 2 refills on those. Lil guy asked for olive oil and balsamic so I guess he was having Italian -- LOL. Hubby ordered a ciabatta sandwich (also Italian) and I had a steak salad -- hmmm not sure what that falls under. Lil guy had chicken tenders which were really good and you can get fruit with it instead of fries. My salad was fantastic! There was so much steak I couldn't even finish it. Blue cheese fritters came with it but the blue cheese wasn't really strong enough. The coleslaw which came with hubby's ciabatta was also not bad. Mimi's is definitely not bistro dining, nor is it anything but a family style restaurant like what Denny's or Marie Callendar's is. For family style dining, this is pretty good. read more

I've always enjoyed Mimi's for breakfast. Thei breads and muffins and breakfat etnrees and combinations are a step above Cocos and Denny's, though a tad more expensive. I reallly like it when they have special limited time menu items. But their old standbys are enjoyable, even the plain eggs and bacon breakfast. Dinner is more of a mixed bag. We were there one Satuday night, and it was unusual for me to be one of the younger patroms in the restaurant. Most of the clientele was about 60 years old. The OC Fair had just started, and it seems all the restaurants in town were deserted. But that's cool, I know service will be decent tonigiht.. Their menu has to be one of the most extensive compared to their compatition. They have pork, chicken and fish in many different ways, including on a salad, or fried, baked, grilled, or in a sandwhich. And they all come with that fantasic bread. The decor is lots of red and pink colored in a cheap French motif. It's great. They seem to play up the French theme. They have a full bar and a decent sized waiting area. I like that it's right next door to Islands and not far from another group of restaurants such as down the street both on both sides off Barranca. Parking is easy unless it's a busy Friday or Sat. night. I've had their Chinese Chicken salad as well as their fish and chips.. No complaints here. They now have a value menu with smaller sized entrees. I had the maple pork chop. It was a disappointment. They just pan fried a small chop and poured maple syrup on top of it. It comes with mashed potatoes and dressing which was the best part of the entree. My friend had the salmon hibachi which had a large filet of fresh salmon over rice with a light sweet and sour sauce. They had some julienned carrots brocolli in a sweet and sour sauice all over rice. It looked like a great piece of fish cooked just right. Food came out in about 20 minutes, about average for this type of place. They were a little slow in refilling the sodas but the buspersons were good about clearing the table.. Server was ok, after the food was delivered, she was no where to be found, we needed a refill on the soda, and coffee,,,,,no exageration, we looked for her about 10 minutes, could not locate another worker to get her attention, finally, we did receive a refill on soda, I never had the chance to ask for a coffee refill,,,,,,,incredible,,,,,,,,she had 3 tables of customers in addition to ours!!!!! I ordered the: Tuscan Omelette; eggs, spinach, feta cheese, & tomato; included, roasted potatoes, and sour dough toast. I drank a Diet Coke with my meal. great combination of flavors. Diana ordered: Bacon Avocado Omelette; eggs, bacon, spinach, jack cheese, and roasted potatoes. it was vert tasty. Diana also drank a Diet Coke with her meal. Met a friend her for lunch, I had dinner here many (pre-COVID) years and I remember the food being better. I got the quiche Lorraine, which is a small individual quiche the inside of the quiche was tasty but unfortunately the crust, on the bottom was pretty much raw and I couldn't eat it. I really wish they had cooked it longer but I didn't want to take the time to send it back. I just enjoyed a delightful breakfast here while preparing for a conference call. This restaurant while part of a chain feels more like a friend or relatives home. Great ambience with warm lighting and old music. Greeted soon after I entered by an arriving manager(?) around 6:55AM. Laurel was my server and earns 5 stars. Ham, eggs over medium fruit and a muffin with coffee. $15.19 plus tip. Not bad at all. Eggs were perfect, ham salty and tender, fruit fresh and flavorful. They also have wine, beer and spirits.
