It has been a while since I reviewed a restaurant. I've wanted to, but only like to give positive reviews, at this stage of life. None had accomplished an excellent review like today's brunch at Mimi's café in IRVINE. We all remember the original Mimi's Café, they have closed so many of them, but this one still stands and has been there for as long as I can remember. Walking in was like a trip back in time, such great memories!!!! The food was excellent. Everything was top-notch quality, hot, and flavorful, I haven't had a meal that outstanding for years. The people that work there obviously care for this establishment, they were attentive. The ice water glasses were sparkling clean. But let me get to the food. I opened with a vanilla latte that was outstanding with just the right amount of foam. I had the three egg omelette, stuffed with spinach and topped with bacon and brie. It came with roasted potatoes and a muffin- I had the honey bran. My friend, Patricia, had homemade corned beef hash with poached eggs and potatoes & a muffin, as well. The wait staff was cordial & knew his job and the hostess was darling. I can't say enough about what a great meal it was from beginning to end and really worth the cost. Obviously, I highly recommend

Our office ordered Mimi's catering today for our early Thanksgiving (/potluck) celebration. We had the ham and turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The meats were dry since they were already sliced up. Mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, cranberries sauce were all okay. It used to be much better when our family ate right there at the restaurant. 3.5/5

Mimi's Cafe is a chain of casual restaurants serving American food with a touch of French bistro influence that I visit occasionally. Authentic or not, their onion soup is richly flavorful and delicious and is topped with a generous portion of melted cheese. It is probably one of their signature dishes on the menu. Some of my other favorites include their pot roast which is cooked French style in a red wine sauce and parmesan crusted chicken breast filet served over linguini with a zesty marinara sauce. I recently had a chicken pot pie, and it was surprisingly good. For some reasons it is quite difficult to find a good and hearty chicken pot pie in the Southland. I was impressed at first glance by its buttery, flaky, and perfectly golden-brown crust. The pie was stuffed with plenty of chicken and vegetables blended in a rich and savory sauce. The only slight disappointment was that it was a bit dry. It would have been perfect if there were more sauce inside the pie. But overall, I was happy about the meal. And don't forget that they have some of the best breakfasts in town. I am a big fan of their breakfast potatoes and house made sausages. Their quiches are also a great breakfast option that are not available in too many places early in the morning. Last but not the least, don't forget to check out their fried chicken and waffles.

The atmosphere, food, and service were excellent. Although we had a reservation and were seated right away, there were plenty of tables available despite it being the weekend. We ordered the Santa Fe Omelette, Breakfast Crepes, and Pancakes, and everything was delicious. We will definitely return to try the lunch or dinner menu. read more

Mimi's is one of the few places in Irvine to get decent American food - steak, beef stew, chicken pot pie, fried zucchini, pasta, etc. My family goes here pretty much whenever we're craving something American or when it's cold because they offer good soups - french onion, tomato, and corn chowder. My favorite things here are their sandwich options because many of the hot sandwiches like the tuna melt and grilled cheese come with cheese like grilled into them. They have a pretty good brunch menu as well! If you're trying to eat healthy, Mimi's does offer a good selection of low calorie options and many veggie side dishes. The only downside to Mimi's is that it feels a little old and some of the decor could use refreshing. Overall, a good place for any meal of the day at a decent price! Perks include being very family friendly and other than brunch, the line is never too long. read more

We visited mimi's cafe for brunch! it was surprisingly very good and we got greeted and seated very fast. The food was really dry and had no flavor at all. We ended up waiting for like 30 to 45 minutes when we went on Easter. It also took forever, like 30 minutes, for our steak and stuff to come out, and then they served it cold! My salmon was totally dry too. I have to say that this was the worst experience! I ate at this location yesterday with a friend and we not only had to wait 15 minutes for a waiter but we also had nats flying all around us during our lunch. There was a spider above my friends head as well. I asked to see the manager and I told her if the bugs all around and all she could say was well we had an exterminator come last week so I guess they will have to come again. No apology at all. She just said well here's your check. I was in shock at how awful she handled this situation. She didn't even care . Won't be back . read more

Located at the Chino Spectrum off Grand Avenue. Here for lunch...not that crowded. Pleasant hostess and waitress. Decided to order the Linch Special - 3 items for 10.99 Got the French Dip Sandwich, corn chowder and the French silk pie for dessert. Also ordered a nice cup of coffee to wash it down. What a dissapointment. I called Friday 4/12 to ask if they could fit a group of 20 people for work event, they asked for my # and said the manager would call me back to see if this is possible. Im here Monday (4 days later) and i still havent' heard from anyone, when i called direclty again to ask if they found out they said the mgr wont be in until wedneday. come on people i cnat be waiting until wednesday me and my team need to make a decision by today that is why i ask with several days in advance. I have been going to different Mimi's Cafe locations ever since I was little! I have certainly never been disappointed and they have great breakfasts and homemade muffins. I tried this location for the first time not too long ago. They were not super crowded and we got sat immediately. The servers and staff are very nice there and got us everything we needed. I love the bread that they serve before the meal! They have a variety of different breads. For dinner, I had the "citrus salmon" served with a salad (I had strawberries, parmesan, avocado, and a balsamic dressing on mine). The citrus salmon was pretty good. It was pretty fresh and the salad was good. Overall, fair prices, friendly staff and servers, clean environment with a great French ambiance, and good food. I will likely be back! read more

Had breakfast here on a Wednesday morning (10/16/24) about 9am. The food was mostly ok aside from the breakfast potatoes being EXTREMELY over seasoned/salted. However, there was another customer, an elderly gentleman, CONSTANTLY coming up staring at what we ordered, asking questions about it, and continually returning ALL THROUGH our visit! This elderly man did this same thing to every other customer there as well. Our server was a fantastic young guy, DAVID, who did his best to try to monitor the situation, but was unable to do anything. Apparently this gentleman does this type of thing EVERY Wednesday and stays there for hours doing it. There is also a luncheon there on Wednesday's that a group of doctors attends and this gentleman bothers them all through their time there as well, attempting to have someone pay for his meal. Many customers have complained about this intrusive behavior and the manager is aware as well, but the restaurant does nothing about it. We realized the gentleman must be very lonely, perhaps a bit senile or whatever, but this behavior was so consistently intrusive I literally not eat my meal. I could go on and on, but just a warning, DO NOT VISIT THIS LOCATION ON WEDNESDAY. This elderly gentleman apparently drives a Mercedes, is dressed fairly well, seems clear headed, is friendly and well off, but clearly becomes a tremendous nuisance, never mind limiting any server from the ability to earn income due to monitoring this man from hanging out at other patron's tables all during their visits. Every customer in the same seating area was clearly troubled by this gentleman and perplexed as to what to do. So, in short, stay away on WEDNESDAYS!!! read more

People there are friendly but the food tastes plain and the stuffing for thanksgiving looked like a squished ball of bread seasoned with salt. I had these : Turkey - it was soft and seasoned with salt Mashed potatoes. - they are easy to make so it taste good Stuffing - a squid ball of bread seasoned with salt n pepper Pumpkin bread - it had good spices but it was too sweet. We recently dined at Mimi's Cafe and had an absolutely delightful experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Amaro our waiter took especially good care of our party of 16 people and made it look easy (which we all know it isn't). Amaro made our visit to Mimi's enjoyable as well as memorable with his hospitality. Thank you Amaro for your fast, friendly and accommodating service. The overall experience at Mimi's Cafe was charming and we can't wait to return to try more of their delectable offerings and enjoy the hospitality of their superior staff. Came in with my service dog and the appropriate paperwork etc. although usually they are not allowed to ask you for that. They were extremely rude to me about bringing my dog and gave me a difficult time. Then the waiter came over and was also very rude about my dog. Then I ordered crepes with butter and sugar inside only and they got my order wrong. I politely asked the waiter if he could fix the order... he hassled me and said that's not what I ordered. Really disrespectful people.. should work better on customer service. Perhaps I am not in a wheelchair, but I have a service animal with me for a reason. Brush up on your customer service skills. read more

It costs about $20 for just the quiche delivered. Was it worth it? No. The crust was not flaky nor flavorful. Kinda tasted like it was reheated from another day. Beyond just needing salt and pepper. You couldn't taste the ingredients which is what made us think it was older. The side of potatoes tasted fresh and wasn't bad, just didn't have any flavor. There are so many other better places that serve quiche so we won't be going back to this one... read more

So let's do a critical review of the "stress test" which cost us $23.81 for two people. The person at the podium in front took our name and my cell number to text us when ready. The line for ordering was out the door but the system paged us and said "your table is ready" so we waited in line outside the front door for 10 minutes and finally transitioned to the inside line which took another 10 minutes to order. I would say that the timing of when the system texts you needs some work. We ordered a Classic Breakfast with CRISPY bacon, home potatoes, multi-grain toast, a side of pork sausage and a cappuccino. The enclosed receipt does not accurately reflect what we ordered. The bacon was floppy and not fully cooked. The home potatoes were not done and soggy. The sausage was dry and tasted old. The cappuccino was perfect. So I would say that this Poached Kitchen location, compared to our prior experience of things done perfectly, failed the "stress test" - when tables and lines were full, it could not deliver it's normal well-prepared meals. They also failed to check back at the table which is a standard service item they have observed for many months. Of course new people still in training can account for alot of this kind of experience. We detected new people we had not seen before. We generally consider management accountable for ensuring that new employees are properly trained. We have not seen the food preparation break down before. This was a first but then we've never seen this many people lined up waiting for tables. Of course all kinds of things go on simultaneously that stress the system.... to go orders from online sources, people trying to box their leftovers, etc. Poached has a whole team of people who just worry about clearing tables, setting up tables with water, etc. This of course allows higher turnover and better utilization along with better customer service. Our takeaway today is: don't come to poached kitchen when it's packed....come earlier before 8am. and notice they serve lunch as well.

I had an absolutely fantastic dining experience, thanks in large part to our amazing server, Roger! From start to finish, Roger went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable meal. I ordered the pot roast and French onion soup, and both dishes were incredible--comfort food at its finest. The pot roast was tender and flavorful, and the French onion soup was perfectly rich with just the right amount of cheesy goodness. Roger recommended them, and I'm so glad I followed his suggestion! What really stood out, though, was Roger's exceptional service. He was attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely friendly. Sigh. I have really given Mimis more than enough chances. I really do love that French Onion Soup! Unfortunately their lack of quality control from the kitchen and poor response from the management has made me not want to go there anymore. The last 6 times that I have gone there has been something grossly wrong with my food. One time the soup was still frozen in the middle. Another time the bread was frozen. If we request something on the side, it still comes on the meal. If we request no onions, they are still on there. Several times the server has brought out food that was obviously wrong and then scurried away before we could ask for it to be corrected. One time the manager happened to walk by (when my soup was a large frozen chunk in the middle). So what's the problem then you ask... :) I ordered a pancake plate. Problems: Order was missed in kitchen, when I finally got them (finally cause I kept hearing the waitress keep asking for them about 7-10 times) they were not cooked! I can perhaps understand burnt pancakes, but uncooked? I'd hate to try any of their poultry considering pancakes are pretty easy to make. My daughter and I went for breakfast this morning to Mimi's Cafe in Fountain Valley. It was delicious. I had brioche with strawberries and blueberries on top. My daughter had a veggie omelette. The service was excellent. Our server was Carrie. We talked about how crowded Mimi's used to be and discussed some of the menu items they used to have. We suggested that they try to bring back some of those items so that people would want to come back again. There were not very many people in the restaurant at the time that we were there. I like that atmosphere here at Mimi's and the French and Louisiana style decor. The food is also really quite good although very very heavy and you leave with that uncomfortable bloated feeling. I get the same thing from most Italian and Indian restauraunts. I never get that feeling at say a Thai or vietnamese restaurant. I love the muffins they serve at Mimi's and it seems like most of the meals I've ever ordered here come with a muffin for whatever reason. Not really encouraging, plus the dining room to the left of the lobby is depressing looking. Loved going to Mimi's in former years, but this once good chain-restaurant has gone downhill; maybe it's just the Irvine location that isn't working out? Its crowded most of the time and takes around10-15 min maximum to get a table on weekends. But again my husband and I go there usually at around 10-30ish to 11ish. I had the 2 fish platter of swai and salmon with brown rice and zucchini as sides. I thought the platter was very good. The swai was cooked very well. The fish was very tender with a delicate flavor. The garlic sauce worked well. I thought the salmon was not as successful as it was a little overcooked. I think it's a mistake to slice the fish so thin -- you almost invariably over cook it when it's so thin. The rice and zucchini were both good. My friend had the Cajun fish tacos and said they were good. There's so much stuff stacked on the taco I thought the fish would be impossible to taste through all the other ingredients, but my friend said he could still taste the fish and thought it was well cooked I particularly liked all the healthy choices like zucchini instead of fries. The one thing I didn't really like was the ordering kiosks. It's fine to have these for the regularly regulars who know what they want. But for a first timer you have questions and no one to answer them. Also, I found it a little annoying standing in line ... It takes people forever to order with all of the options. It might save a little labor for the restaurant, but it really makes ordering take a long time. The prices were also very reasonable. I'm definitely coming back.
