I had a Sicilian meatball for an appetizer, and after the first bite i knew what i was in for. the sauce was delicious, and dipping the garlic bread in may have brought a tear to my eye.... my fiancé had the eggplant parmesan - Bellissimo! i do not like eggplant, but still had to have a bite (i couldve finished her entire plate). she is in bed next to me as i write this finishing her leftovers in the best of moods. i had the mussels shrimp haddock and linguine, and i cannot wait for my next trip back to Maine. this will now be a must stop on every trip. Avoid this dump.Over priced cheap food in a tacky,out dated environment. Super small portions that has zero flavor what so ever. Chicken cutlets look boiled beforehand then barely coated and pan fried. Kids pasta dish was also 18 bucks. Absolutely absurd pricing. My wife and I made our first visit to Mimmo's and had a wonderful experience. Be sure to make a reservation as it did seem to be very busy while we were waking out at 6pm after our 5p dinner.9 We were lucky enough have the owners granddaughter, Kristen as our waitress. She was absolutely fantastic and her service and the overall atmosphere is probably what would bring us back. Another big reminder, it is a BYOB restaurant, so be sure to bring what you would like to drink. In terms of the food, let's just say I will try something different. Everything I had was just ok. Nothing stood out as much as I wanted it to after meeting Kristen and the owner herself Diane.... A very pleasant women who handles reservations and is the hostess. In terms of the food, my wife started off with a Caprese Salad which she really enjoyed! I ordered two appetizers; Stuffed Mushrooms and 2 Meatballs. Both were just ok. It was a pleasant surprise when a small garden salad and garlic bread showed up. The garlic bread was very good. My chicken parm was just ok. My wife's fettuccine Alfredo with peas was also just ok. Read all the bad reviews and thought I still wanted to give it a try, but should have listened to the reviews cause they we're accurate, the worst Italian meals served, my lobster ravioli had no lobster at all, it was a pink paste inside. Too much salt and the dish was super watery like the raviolis were cooked quickly as frozen. The bread had way too much garlic, the place is old and smelly like a basement. The lady at the desk pointed us to the table and said she could not walk us there cause she was waiting for a phone call. If I could give zero stars I would. Warning it's BYOB and you will need alcohol to tolerate this place. To second other reviews, the lady who greeted us was shocked that we didn't have a reservation when the restaurant was half empty. Everything cost $30 on the menu and the food was terrible. It cost $16 for pasta with Alfredo sauce plus $14 to add shrimp. After waiting an hour after ordering, the food came and my whole dish only had 4 shrimp!! An absolute rip off. I have no idea why the food took so long to cook because it was just boxed pasta with frozen shrimp. My boyfriends veal parm was very tough and came with a very dry piece of asparagus on top? Not sure what they are spending their income on because it's not good ingredients or the restaurant itself. The chairs in the restaurants look like they got them out of the dumpster after a cheap pizza place closed. The plates were cheap plastic. Do not eat here! Even if everything else is closed, which is what happened to us. Just go get something from a convenience store, it will be better. read more

On our recent trip to Maine and staying in the area, my family was getting a bit tired of eating at overpriced seafood restaurants catering to tourists and asked me to find a local Italian restaurant. My search brought me to Mimmo's and based on some of the positive reviews, I figured it was worth a try...although my expectations were low. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday night without a reservation and were seated at a lovely corner table with a view of the ocean. Our server, Danielle, was absolutely incredible! She was just so friendly, sweet, attentive...loved her and her warm energy. She even took notice that my teenage daughter got a little sauce on her blouse and brought her over some seltzer and a napkin without us having to ask. Who does that? I honestly can't say enough about her but let's move on. The food was your basic Italian fare that you'd expect to find on the menu. The garlic bread was excellent as was the chicken parm and lasagna. Nothing shi-shi or gourmet...just good food in a charming setting with excellent service. Absolutely incredible...both the staff and the food. Our waitress and the owner were so friendly and welcomed us right in. The eggplant parm and chicken parm were delicious, as well as the garlic bread and salad. The dressing was fantastic. This place has been around forever. Family recipes and hospitality right in the edge of the Atlantic Ocean - what's not to love?!

Went there this past Saturday while we were staying at the beach on vacation. Saw the mixed reviews on Yelp but we could not be more pleased. There was a group of us and we had appetizers then entrees including veal, fish and shrimp and all were excellent. Being from the Boston area, we found the prices reasonable for the quality of the food and the BYOB probably saved us $100 right there. Our server Kristen was very attentive and was great with the 3 and 5 year old we had in our group. The only downside is the restaurant has a relatively small parking lot , but you can park along the road especially during peak summer season . If staying local you may want to consider the Beach taxi, regular taxi, etc. read more

Mimmo's is back on the top of the list in York Maine. We have been going to Mimmo's one or two times a year on our vacation for 18+ years. Then a few years back after Mimmo passed the food was not good at all and we didn't go back till today 07/13/2023 and let me tell you it was delicious we started with the complimentary garlic bread that has to be dipped in the oil and vinegar our appetizer was the homemade Sicilian meatball in Mimmo's marinara sauce which was unbelievably good.That sauce is beyond fantastic. I had chicken Marsala my wife had stuffed eggplant both as good as it was when Mimmo was coming to the table to ask how your meal was and tell a joke. So, apparently Mimmo's delete reviews that it doesn't like on their Facebook page. Last year I posted a review about how awful mine and my wife's food was and they have since deleted the post. Apparently, there are only reviews where people like their food. Last year, my wife, kids and myself ate there. I ordered chicken Marsala and it tasted like French onion soup and you could not even taste the Marsala wine (use Florio dry marsala wine not pastine) and my wife order lemon chicken and the pasta was over cooked and not flavorful. I ordered a root beer and the waitress gave me a glass and a can from market basket. My kids pasta had sauce that tasted like it came out of a can and barely seasoned. The decor needs to be updated and the need to remove the white Christmas net lights on the inside. I understand that all the food is made to order but the wait time is to long for the lack of quality that they put out. I come from a family of chefs. My grandfather was the former president of the epicurean club in Boston, my uncle is a master chef who was on the season of Hell's Kitchen and owned several restaurants and took four years of culinary arts and know how to cook. As I stated previously, they only like reviews that favor them. If you go through the reviews they're only positive. No negative in mine from last year has been removed on their Facebook page. TERRIBLE !! Went for dinner this evening. Waited 2 1/2 hours from when we sat down until the food came out. server and owner came to the table to explain. They are understaffed, but we were assured the food would be right out ( lie ) . They also told us " food is cooked to order . ( another lie ) chicken parm was frozen patties . The meatballs tasted like sawdust . the sauce tasted like room temp canned ragu ! I've had more satisfying experiences at Wendy's drivethrough. Excellent! Some of the best Italian food we've had since we moved here. Homey atmosphere with wonderful staff. Even though they were short handed (end of their season and closing next week until April) very pleasant experience. BYOB worked out as we brought our favorite wines which would have cost X 3 at any restaurant. The only criticism I have is on Yelp it says noise level is quiet......it is definitely not on the side with the high ceiling. Will definitely return next season! read more

Went to Mmmo's on a Sunday night 9/24/23 the older woman at the desk asked if we had a reservation which we did not and didn't know you needed to make a reservation. She said she would see what she could do. She told us it is noted on the menu about needing reservations. If you are new to this restaurant how would you know about making reservations if you haven't seen the menu? Maybe they could include that on their sign out front. We left the restaurant at approximately 8pm. The restuarant closes at 9pm, not really sure when these tables were going to be used. Not sure if she wanted us to drop her a few bucks for finding a table, There were many empty tables and remained empty the whole time we were there. The service was good as was the food. The waitress, Amy was very nice and attentive during our time. it is a BYOB which was ok with us. We would go back as the food and service was good. There is parking in back of the restaurant. The ambiance is nice, if you are lucky you may get a table up front with a window view of the ocean across the street. Maybe that's where the reservation is needed otherwise I don't know why on is needed. read more

Dry, overpriced, and dry. Chicken parm and eggplant parm dishes - they apparently don't put sauce over the pasta (under the chicken or eggplant) when you order? Clearly not owned by true Italians because they are skimpy on the sauce and the food is completely dry and flavorless - and we spent over $200 so tried all of the dishes. Save your money, as we threw our food in the trash. What a waste and a let down to celebrate my deceased fathers birthday. read more

Mimmo's has been a tradition for over 15 years and Mimmo is still on site visiting tables and opening BYO Wine bottles for his customers. A really fun time every time I visit. The layout is like having dinner at your cool uncles place, you could sit on the porch or in the dining room, either way it is great. This place is right on the ocean, with great views of the sea and even Nubble lighthouse. Great italian food (do not expect Olive Garden flavors). I am shocked by the negative reviews... A note to the disappinted, don't disrespect the owners when you visit a family restaurant. You will, without question, receive poor and rude service in return for your inexcusable rudeness. It is their house, respect it or walk out the door. Go visit a chain where you belong. Prices high? Not unless you frequent fast food chains or are used to dining at mom's house. Did I mention that this place is ON THE OCEAN! Sorry but the negative reviews must be competitors, I have been coming here for nearly 20 years and have never had a bad experience. Really? 4.5 stars? I would give them .5 if I could. I have no idea what these people are talking about becuase I had the worst dining experience of my life at this place. We walked in and nobody was at the front desk to greet us.. it took us a few minutes to realize we had to just walk in and find our own seat. I was put off by the nose-picking cook but tried to ignore it and enjoy a dinner with my good friends. I was very excited about the fact that it's BYOB. So we had some wine and it was delicious. Then I noticed strangely placed (on the window sills of this old house converted restaurant) 8.5x11 photographs of some old guy and various pets. One was with him and a cat, and another was him with a parrot on his shoulder. I assumed this was the owner of the place but my god were these unappetizing. We faced them out the window... maybe the people walking by would enjoy them more than us. Now it was time to order - not many gluten-free options which is understandable given that this is an italian restaurant - pasta, pasta, pasta! I orded some chicken dish and didn't even want to bother our rude waitress with gluten questions so I hoped for the best. Everybody's meal came with a weird salad. a slice of an unripe tomato, some chickpeas, a canned beet slice... some other weird stuff... not very good... About 5 people at the table hated their food, it was gross, colorless, tasteless and mushy. We were all starving and this was a huge disappointment. The only good thing was the garlic bread. They kept bringing it out as if they were trying to make up for their disguisting food. Unfortunately, I was not able to enjoy the bread. At the end of the meal we were served 4 shots of amaretto - on the house. How nice! But, there were 8 of us. I hope they can take this criticism and do something about it. I disagree with most of what everyone says. Sure, it's BYOB and right on the beach, but I could sneak some wine in a juice bottle and bring it onto the beach and enjoy a can of chef boyardee that is more delicious than this place. if you're into trying something other than spaghetti and meatballs, seriously go somewhere else. Everything is drowned in sauce. A dish that sounded delicious - spring veggies, scallops, shrimp - tasted like lemons wrapped around a stick of butter. Go ANYWHERE else.
