Yesterday was the worst salon experience of my life. Mariah ruined my hair. I had grown out my natural dark blonde for 5 months so I could get it blended with my lighted blonde and get an ombre look. Mariah is an artist and visionary! I heard about her when I asked my friend who did her beautiful highlights and haircut. She said "Mariah, she's great"! As a result of a move, I needed a local hair stylist. More so, I had just cut off 8 inches of my long hair and my previous stylist didn't do a good job shaping my new shoulder length hair! I was bummed! I called Mariah and she took the time to consult with me on my color (I had blond highlights) and how she proposed we clean up my recent haircut. She listened, she advised, she recommended and I felt confident moving forward with a plan! For the color, Mariah recommended balayage (a much more customizable technique for coloring my hair. It appears more natural even though I technically went blonder!). She also understood and even helped me understand her approach in cutting my hair so it would sit naturally and give me the style I described (I have limited vocabulary when it comes to what I want but Mariah understood!). I returned to Mariah recently with another request for her to consider and of course she listened and she had a plan. I wanted to keep my hair shorter (but long enough for a pony tail as workout a lot!). I shower everyday and am always on the go. I never take the time to blow out my hair and like it to air dry. I have wavy hair and wanted her to recommend products that could help emphasize my natural waves but keep frizz to a minimum. She recommended two products to start (a texture gel and a beach spray). She also showed me how I could handle my hair when it's wet so it would dry with a great style. She starts with a great cut and went from there. I have been to Mariah three times and I appreciate the extra time she takes to consult with her client, her experience with color, and her willingness to consider your lifestyle and preferences when she cuts your hair. Believe me, I tried other stylists in my effort to find Mariah and what I discovered is that when you are with someone for a long time, your hair and hair color is easy for them to sustain. I have been going to Mariah for almost 2 years now. I followed her from another salon to her new location at salon suites. I moved to California from Hawaii and was looking for a stylist to cut and color my hair and was a little worried about finding someone that would cut my hair the way I liked it.
