This is a real old school diner! I'd only heard of it because my Yelp buddy, Joel H. is a regular here. It looks like a repurposed railroad car and seems like it could roll away on wheels at any moment! The chrome exterior with a bright neon sign takes you back to the diners of the 50's and that's because the Mineola diner has been in business for 75 years! Inside, the lunch counter seating, Formica tables, vinyl booth bench seats and corner jukebox are typical of that era. The menu is more modern though with tabloid size printed plastic placards and separate specials card for brunch and drinks. Any diner worth their salt serves a full range of breakfast and that includes fried eggs (any way you want them), bacon, pancakes & omelets off the steel flat top grill. My wife orders from the breakfast specials menu, the Scott Tenorman Homemade Chili & Cheddar Omelet with Home Fries. Chili in an omelet is pretty original and it works. I have to try the homemade Corned Beef Hash topped with 2 eggs over EZ. The accompanying home fries are extra well done, just the way I like it with a crispy crust. I've had better hash, but it's not bad. Both breakfast platters come with your choice of buttered toast and I smother mine in runny egg yolk. We definitely found a gem here in the Mineola Diner and will have to make this a regular stop for breakfast and lunch! Too bad they don't serve dinner and only open until 2pm. read more

Mineola Diner has a lot of nerve calling itself a diner--it's really just an OVERPRICED, DUMPY COFFEE SHOP. For these prices, you're much better off going to a real diner. WE WERE OVERCHARGED TWICE BY $10! We ordered two omelets, and our check somehow came to $45 with no itemized breakdown. When we questioned it, our server--a petite brunette woman who appeared to be in her late 20s to early 30s--insisted it was correct. After we pushed back, she claimed she had confused our order with a different omelet. There isn't a single omelet on the menu that costs anywhere close to $22 each, and that excuse makes even less sense considering we were the only customers there. She adjusted the bill to $35, but the total should have been less than that as well. Even then, the tax was still wrong. On top of that, they added a credit card fee without any notice. There was no sign, no mention on the menu, and no warning beforehand. The food was just as disappointing. The home fries were mushy and barely edible. Despite overcharging us more than once, our server NEVER APOLOGIZED! Hidden fees, inaccurate charges, terrible service, and mediocre food--this place is a rip-off, and we definitely won't be back. read more

This place is a neighborhood gem!! Almost 80 years in business and definitely deserves a shout out. Owned by two brothers, the place is old school diner charm. The food is fantastic and always cooked exactly the way we like it. This is my son and my favorite breakfast and lunch spot in mineola. It's always mandatory we stop in for a bite to eat and friendly service when we are in the neighborhood and especially when we are at Mr. Cheapos record store just a few steps away!!! I grew up in New Hyde Park for 34 years. Lived in Mineola for 16 years and never tried this place until now. I will say it's by far the best diner I've ever eaten at! Don't know what coffee they use but it's the absolute best. Me and my wife went here on Veterans Day because we had the day off. It's clean, cute and cozy! This is an update of an older review. This diner is in the official registry of "original diners" and pictured in most of the books on these places. The place is amazing and the owners Mike & Shane are wonderful owners and hosts. We there for breakfast and it was truly a memorable experience. I was there with my wife and two friends. You're greeted with a smile and welcome. It is small and seating is limited but there was plenty of space for us in the side room. The food here is just amazing this morning we had the Trough which are eggs with a little of everything else mixed in. There were a couple of omelettes that are always incredibly tasty and I had the banana-buttermilk pancakes (with scrambled eggs). These were amazing-tasty-fluffy. Essentially, delicious!!! I am a member of multiple organizations and we all use this diner for meetings. It is the perfect venue with the perfect menu and great service! read more

They have one of the most unique recipes for corn beef hash. It's DELICIOUS This is also 1 of the best places in the area to get a Philly cheesesteak! The bread is delicious and certainly tastes as if it's freshly made! The service is usually swift. The food takes a little longer but that's to be expected bc it's usually crowded. How have I lived in the neighborhood and have never stepped foot into this gem of a diner until St. Paddy's Day! Since then I've returned and now a staple on Sunday mornings. I love how the ambiance gives patrons a taste of the past and ran very nicely by owners, cooks, waitstaff, etc. Upon arrival you are greeted and seated as soon as possible. If there's a wait, it's worth it. There's about 3-4 parking spots via lot but a municipal parking via back and/or lots of street parking. I LOVE how the brunch specials are truly special and changed on a weekly basis. We've enjoyed thus far iced and hot coffees with almond milk (would suggest offering oat milk as well), blueberry protein pancakes with a side of turkey bacon, lox omelet, Greek omelet, and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch waffle. Ask the waitress or waiter for the home fries to be well done if you like them a little cruncher like we do. The service is always with a smile and he/she will constantly check-in. The food is prepared with urgency so you won't have to wait very long for your order. It's a very quaint place and I can't believe the first time I've ever stepped foot into this historic diner was in my 40s. Next time, I will definitely provide you all with mouth watering photos of our order(s). I decided to be in the moment instead of on the phone while I enjoyed each and every savoring bite. Don't be like me and continuously walk by, drive by, bike ride by this LITTLE GEM in Mineola without stepping foot into it until my 40s. I wish I would have found this place sooner! This is our go-to diner! It's a little place, but food is on point! Staff is always friendly! We come with kids most of the time, and they are welcoming. Everything on the menu is delicious. We did get side entrance access upon request. Note it's locked from outside and has push-bar from inside. Child high chairs packed on side of entrance door. Acoustics in back room reflect sound so others talking at regular level make for loud sound. Food standardly good. Blueberry waffle has mixed pieces. I added a plate of fresh and whipped cream. I've driven past the Mineola Diner on Jericho Turnpike for decades without stopping but today my wife and I finally tried it out for breakfast and we were very pleasantly surprised. It's a small old-fashioned pre-fabricated 'mountain view diner' that dates back to 1948. Our server, Michael, was both helpful and entertaining. I got the Roumanian Steak and Eggs for 15.95 and it was char-grilled deliciousness. My wife got the healthy sounding whole wheat pancakes, turkey bacon and over medium eggs combo. Not only was it all very tasty but it could feed two people and it was only 13.95. There are so few good breakfast places in the Garden City area but Mineola Diner absolutely hit the spot for us. The only reason this place did not get the beloved 5 stars was the horrible parking, but the food was amazing. Both me and the G man had breakfast fare and wow did they serve heart portion. G asked for his geometries extra crispy and they delivered those perfect. He also has a mound of link sausage on top of his scrambled eggs. Stopped in on a Sunday at around noon to grab a quick (late) breakfast to go before hitting the road back to New Jersey. Everyone working there that we interacted with seemed very friendly, and we probably placed our order and got the food within 5 minutes. It was that quick. I just had a sausage and cheese on a roll. Visit Date: February 23, 2020 I came here to meet my friend for breakfast. She was with her two kids, her niece and her mother-in-law I had my son. This is a small diner but luckily when we got in we were able to be seated. The staff was super cool about our kids. I get mixed feelings about taking my son anyplace now because with kids sometimes you don't know how they will behave and if other diners or staff will take to them kindly or not. I got my son pancakes, I got an omelette with mushrooms, bacon, and cheese and I got the toast and fries. I don't eat toast and fries usually but I figured my son would have the pancakes or the toast and that the other kids at the table might eat the french fries. The service was fairly fast which anyone with small kids can appreciate. The waitress bought the bill just as my son was getting antsy and ready to run out the door on me. The food was pretty good and the coffee was good too. The waitress kindly bought me a new coffee after my son decided I should have half and half with a splash of coffee. After I downed as much water as I could with a butter knife inside of my water glass because my son decided that was a thing and paid the bill I said goodbye to my friends and headed off to Hicksville Mall to entertain my son. Had a delicious experience at Mineola Diner the other day. We needed a place to stop and eat before our journey home for the holidays. Right when we stepped in, we could tell it was a very local spot. Everyone knew each other! Love that charm. Our waitress was on the ball. I am a huge fan of diners, especially refurbished old school ones. I have major problems and health concerns about this establishment. If they clean up the problems it would be decent. I only had breakfast there I cannot speak for lunch items. I feel if you can make breakfast the lunch would fall under the same category. Anyways, my first issue is the plates. No establishment should be using plastic plates. The plates have a tremendous amount of scratches in them which can harvest bacteria and other traces of left over food (especially if you have allergies). Second concern is the under cooked eggs, I asked for over medium and they were very undercooked (refer to picture). I am a fan of over easy but never order it out, this was just too raw for me. My last problem was with the amounts of dust and half empty ketchup up, syrup, hot sauce etc. the syrup was in an "olive oil/dressing dispenser". It was covered in sticky syrup, had dust all over the spout, and there was even fruit flies stuck to it. I feel that the staff should always make sure bottles are refilled. I asked the waitress for another full bottle and she told me to use the one on the table that had maybe 2 inches of syrup left in it. The waitress had lost her friendly demeanor throughout her many years of experience in life. We did not receive menus or water until we asked for it, we were not greeted just told to sit with a point of a finger. We were the only ones in the establishment around 1pm. The waitress suddenly cracked a smile and said have a good day once we left the tip in cash on the table. I was extremely disappointed especially with all these reviews.
