The Carle Place diner seems to have mastered both these items while also serving well prepared, tasty food. I have been coming to this diner since I was a teen. New owners and remodeling but the same view. The diner is big and bright and I was greeted with a hello and smile. I was there as part of a part of two so we had a nice table where we could sit, speak and catchup up. Our waitress greeted us moments after we walked in offered suggestions. As far as Long Island diners go this one is about as good as it gets! Great service, house made burgers, not the frozen Pattie's you get at other places, food not drowned in salt, cole slaw and pickle to start. Getting in an out of the parking lot is tricky and parking kind of sucks. They could use an update/interior remodel but I'm not coming here for the scenery. I've been to this diner a couple of times, and each experience raised some concerns. For example, ordering a well-done burger but receiving it severely undercooked and bleeding or getting a chef salad that consisted of sparse meats heavily rolled in cheese. i decided to give it one more chance and On that visit, the food was the last straw for me; I'll never return to that place. I ate three bites of my hamburger and three fries before my stomach started hurting, I felt nauseous, and my mouth began to water. I had to excuse myself from the table and literally go outside to throw up. I was sick and vomiting for 24 hours I realize negative reviews can cast a bad light on establishments, but I felt this was necessary. It was about 9 o'clock at night not very busy at all. Got some coleslaw, chickpea salad, and pickles to start. pickles were good. The coleslaw and chickpea salad had no taste at all. Took too long for our hot open turkey and French dip to come out. French dip was on an awful oversized soft hero roll, not enough roast beef and very greasy grilled onions. It really kills me to leave this review because I come to this diner on a weekly basis. I love the Mediterranean Garden Salad and ordered one for pick up today. After I started eating the salad, I noticed a living, crawling bug in the salad. Immediately called CP diner and asked if I can come back after work for a refund. When I got there, the host told me they wouldn't refund the salad and I would have to just order something else. Really did not want ANY food after seeing a bug.... Anyone else would have thrown a fit and been nasty. That's not my character. I understand things happen. Unfortunately, keeping my $23 for a salad was more important than keeping your regular customer happy. Not to mention- I probably won't be eating salad for awhile after this... This place is more a 4 1/2, but certainly not a 4. Not from this visit. The server was fast to come over and was very attentive. Nachos came properly, they took off what we asked to be taken off, and they were really good. The burger shines. Cheese on both bun sides, plenty of mushrooms and onion, and enough bacon to leave you happy. I asked for my burger rare, and was not in the least disappointed. This is a good alternative to another, very popular diner in the neighborhood. I enjoyed my lox eggs Benedict very much which had a generous amount of lox, which is uncommon in most places. I didn't like the hash browns potatoes which were tasteless and did not have anything to enhance the flavor. The coffee was very good, although I drink decaf. Our waiter and other staff were professional. There is plenty of available parking. The detraction, which had nothing to do with the food or service, is related to indulgent parents who allow their children to run around a restaurant as if it were a park. read more

I'm surpised by the 3 star avg. review. But a diner like this that has been in carle place for many years probably has gone through some service changes and food quality changes. At this point in 2021 it's been great! Hence the 5 stars. Good service, friendly, efficient. Clean place and wonderful breakfasts. Definitely go for the french toast. It's on challah bread which is even eggier. Love it. Also any of the egg dishes are fine. Fluffy scrambled eggs with great corn beef hash. Nice well cooked bacon and sausage. Overall, a mediocre diner on our way back to NJ on a Sunday evening. The three stars go to the spacious, clean, and pretty ambiance, as well as the friendly and knowledgeable service. The busboy was prompt with water refills, but the waiter with other drinks, not so much. Generally, food was served within a reasonable time frame. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment with watery white Tszaki (spelling?) sauce with my Slouvaki Platter and chickpeas from the complimentary appetizer. Even the counter macaroons were also very stale and sticky. The chicken was dry and came in funky shapes. Did they just rip it apart before serving? For $15, I expected better quality ingredients and a better presentation. I am amazed that I didn't get a stomach virus, let alone food poisoning from this place.
