The hubby and I came here for a quick dinner again earlier this week. At first, we were reluctant to try Chinese food in what looks like a small greasy spoon storefront. However, the food and cheerful staff truly won us over. We went initially only for proximity of location, with our weekday evening time constraint. The staff greeted us immediately with a big smile and seated us in the small, but quite comfortable dining area. We were helped immediately and given the usual complimentary sweet & sour sauce with Chinese chips. We started with the garlic steamed wontons appetizer which arrived quickly & were moist with no pastyness, & big and plentiful. They were perfect, sprinkled with sesame seeds and covered in a nice delicious dark brown garlic sauce of a nice consistency. As I am not usually a fan of high calorie Chinese food, I was so happy when the hubby pointed out a good selection of dietetic options listed on the menu to take the guesswork out of healthy eating!! I happily ordered the steamed shrimp and mixed vegetables. Perfection! We both had a pot of tea to share and water. The waiter was always right there when my water glass needed refilling, and was kind and friendly, but not hovering. I drink a LOT of water, and that can test the true mettle of a restaurant staff's attention. A+ service and surprisingly good quality food for a reasonable price In Glastonbury! My new go-to "American Chinese" restaurant. I have only gotten takeaway - they do not deliver - but the portions are great, and the ingredients are fresh. They do not appear to be out of a can, like some other Chinese restaurants in the area. Ming Bao is not going to shatter food competitions, but I truly appreciate its consistency and reliability for those good ol' flavors. read more

Before I go further, I'll be back (said in anold accent) gah if spellcheck on iPad doesn't butcher enough! Pro, very accommodating, order was spot on, we were very happy with the chow fun, pork loo main and my special ordered tangerine beef. Let's just say shredded is the way to go. Con, we they did have noodles for my wonton soup, but that soup isn't coming home with me next time, so when I say the crispy noodles weren't fresh, well I don't think they were, so moot points. Pretty good take out. Nothing super special though. The way this place was talked up to me I was expecting more. It isn't the Chinese restaurants fault though. Ever since I've tried Sichuan Chinese food the difference between them is incomparable. I'd rather go to Sichuan all day every day then a regular Americanized Chinese food take out place. Easily the best Chinese food in Glastonbury. They have some of the friendliest staff I have ever met. Their service is fast, efficient, and always ready in the exact amount of time they tell me. I have only eaten in their restaurant once and much prefer to come for takeout, as it's not much to look at or enjoy if one wants a bit of ambience. The food, however, is always piping hot and delicious. My husband and I enjoy the Happy Family and Seafood Delight, and I love that they have steamed meal options for those of us who TRY to stay healthy when busy. The best Chinese in town! Super friendly staff and yummy dishes you would find at any Chinese restaurant. I love the beef and broccoli and the boneless spare ribs and of course a spring roll! Take out is almost always a 15-20 wait, regardless of how little or much you order! They do have a few, maybe 8 tables in the restaurant for eat in. One of the best takeaway chinese in Glastonbury. They never get my order wrong. They can handle special requests if you are reasonable. The food is good for the most part. Soups are above average. Apps are good but egg rolls are meh. General tso's is just okay. My recommendation is the sweet and sour shrimp. Really nice fry and big big shrimp at a great value. Moo shu excellent. Fried rice excellent as well the kung pao. Just the best in the area I have found. read more

What I liked...their pricing was reasonable. I liked that I didn't have to buy a quart of the item I wanted...they were able to merge the rice with the dish and keep it reasonably priced. Its a nice enough place to eat there but it's super casual. For takeout on a Friday night though it's the best place in Glastonbury. Certainly a good value. Would recommend the mooshoo pork, broccoli, chicken dishes. The dumplings - our group found them inedible - the dough was way thick, and wonton soup dumplings and filling were not very good. Pretty decent! Not the best Chinese I've ever had, but definitely not the worst. Stopped in for lunch. One of the few Chinese restaurants I've come across that include an egg roll with lunch specials. The boneless spare ribs are great, nice smoky flavor and not fatty at all. General tso chicken is actually crispy and not soggy like it is at a lot of other places. Rice had no bean sprouts in it, which was a plus for my boyfriend. Rice and eggroll were a little bland, however. Need hot sauce for sure. Service was great, very friendly and quick. I would definitely go back if I am ever in the area again. read more

I don't typically order Chinese Food, but when I do it's from Ming Bao. Ming Bao has a typical Chinese Food menu available to eat in or take out. The quality of the food is the best in the area. The food always seems fresh and is not greasy at all. The hours are convenient and the staff are friendly and willing to help you pick an appetizer! If you look at all the places I've eaten over the past 10 years this has to rank right up there numbers wise for the total number of meals. If it hasn't changed ownership, as Chinese restaurants are wont to do, here's my take. Soups, nothing exciting but the hot and sour is good. I like the wings as an app. Except for the pot stickers (fried dumplings) the rest are pretty average. My favorite entree is the sesame chicken. They do this well. I am a fan of Ming Bao! I ordered take out from Ming Bao yesterday for dinner. I stopped by to pick up my order and was greeted by a friendly staff person. It was ready in the 20 minutes that I was told over the phone. We ordered egg rolls, pork fried rice, shrimp lo mien, chicken fingers, chicken wings and boneless spareribs. The eggs rolls were awesome. The chicken wings were a little dry. Otherwise everything else was very good and was not greasy or over seasoned. We will be back again soon. read more

Ordered moo goo gai pan, cashew chicken, shrimp fried rice. The rice was colored yellow and very sticky. The chicken dishes had undercooked veggies which were hard to chew and rubbery bland chicken. the sauces had little flavor. I also ordered won ton soup and the won tons were thick with a small amount of dark hard filling. This is my second time trying them based on their good reviews. We live close to this place so we were hoping that it would be good. We love chinese food but good quality chinese and not the typical greasy take out. Unfortunately this place is not good or quality. The food tastes incredibly greasy, over cooked, and over seasoned. It reminds me of the Panda Express in the mall. We know a lot of people who like this place so we decided to give it another chance. We got general Tso chicken, a dish I would consider a staple of American Chinese food. It was pretty bad. Over fried, hard, dry and consistent with our prior experiences. We are regulars of the Wang Palace in Glastonbury which is wonderful. This place doesn't even come close. Let me start by saying, I am not a huge fan of Chinese take-out. My memories of Chinese take-out are dominated by images of soggy noodles garnished with sad pieces of broccoli drenched in sauce and hard rice heavily fried in old oil. Cornstarch and MSG played a starring role in every single one of the dishes I remember. With guests visiting on a holiday and few restaurants open for take-out, I had few options to choose from. I had heard raving reviews of Ming Bao so it came to mind. After a few failed attempts calling everywhere but a Chinese take-out restaurant, I finally succumbed and called to see if Ming Bao was open. Boy was I happy to be greeted by the friendly voice on the other end. I had my sister-in-law call back and we finally had our dinner order placed. Oh darn! I forgot to ask the sister-in-law to request no MSG. Sigh. When the order was ready, I will admit that the box of food occupying our back seat smelled rather good. Oh please, I must just be hungry. Once our meal was all unpacked and ready to be plated, I found myself sampling everything and went back for 2nds and, oh goodness, 3rds. The food was so cleanly prepared, the ingredients were fresh, the broccoli was perky, crispy, and fresh, not sad and soggy like I remember. The sauces were not heavy on the cornstarch. And much to my surprise, the rice was actually good! I also noticed something that really did it for me. The food was tasty, and I didn't notice any MSG. I am particularly sensitive to MSG and I wasn't plagued by that insatiable thirst that usually follows a meal laden with MSG. So...very much by accident, I discovered a new restaurant to go for Chinese food. Thank you Ming Bao for bringing respect back to Chinese take-out. read more

Ever since being introduced to Sichuan/Chengdu cuisine, we rarely go for Americanized 'Chinese' food anymore. However, sometimes you get a craving for some oh so fast-foody Sesame or Sweet and Sour Chicken with Wonton Soup. Ming Bao has that same copy-paste menu as every other Chinese restaurant, so nothing unexpected. Prices are normal, cook time is minimal. The folks that work here are quite pleasant on the phone and in person. The food is hot, fresh (definitely seems fresher than most places), but very high in starch. Every dish we have tried has been on the thick and sweet side, indicative of high amounts of corn starch and sugars to appease the american palette. I did notice they have an option to cook your dish without starch, so we might have to try this next time. Overall it's a solid American Chinese takeout restaurant. read more
