Ever since being introduced to Sichuan/Chengdu cuisine, we rarely go for Americanized 'Chinese' food anymore. However, sometimes you get a craving for some oh so fast-foody Sesame or Sweet and Sour Chicken with Wonton Soup. Ming Bao has that same copy-paste menu as every other Chinese restaurant, so nothing unexpected. Prices are normal, cook time is minimal. The folks that work here are quite pleasant on the phone and in person. The food is hot, fresh (definitely seems fresher than most places), but very high in starch. Every dish we have tried has been on the thick and sweet side, indicative of high amounts of corn starch and sugars to appease the american palette. I did notice they have an option to cook your dish without starch, so we might have to try this next time. Overall it's a solid American Chinese takeout restaurant. read more

Super nice people. But they won't make Egg Foo Yong on weekends, but you don't know that until you call and try to place an order over and over, and they just say, "Not Tonight". Found out they won't make it when they're busy because it's labor intensive. So take it off the menu. That's just silly. Also the worst vegetable dumplings (just cabbage), and chow fun was a gummy mess. But some entrees shine. read more

After having tried many Chinese restaurants in the area, Ming Bao is far and away the best--consistent and reliable. For a place that does a lot of take-out, the dining room, though small, is very pleasant and comfortable. The test of good Chinese for me is always the Hot and Sour Soup, and Ming Bao's is dark, rich and perfectly spiced. Am a little confused by the review that said you can't get brown rice. Came here with the family. We were in the area and read some reviews and decided to try it. You can take-out or dine-in. The dining area isn't huge but it can seat a party of 4 comfortably. I had the vegetable spring roll for an appetizer and it was delicious! For an entree I had shrimp and broccoli with vegetable fried rice. This food was sooooo good! It wasn't greasy at all. Everything was nice and fresh. Our waiter was friendly also....I love Chinese food so I have tried mostly all of the restaurants considered to be the "best" in Connecticut. This place is on the top my my list. I guess I'll be making this 20 minute drive more often because it's definitely worth it....on a side note, this spot is extremely clean. They remember me even when i've not been there for a while and they are always willing to substitute things for me.( chicken fingers!) We had a great take out order here the other night. The gentleman taking our phone order was so pleasant on the phone and was fun & personable in person as well! Sleepy little restaurant that you must try. Started with the fried wontons and was not disappointed they had the perfect amount of filling and the flavor was perfect. My main dish was the tangerine beef, I'm not one to normally order beef at a Chinese restaurant, however to my surprise it was tender and the flavor of the tangerine and the heat of the spice was outstanding. I highly recommend you taking the drive to this hidden gem. The food is very simply and cleanly prepared and the family running it was pleasant and welcoming. I love this damn place! IMO, it's the best take out Chinese in town. Emphasis on 'take out' - don't be expecting Michelin Star cuisine, but if you're in the mood for good old fashioned Chinese comfort food, this is the place. Okay, I have had take out from Ming Bao twice in the last 6 weeks and I'm not at all motivated to do it again. My friend's father said to him at his wedding "all experiences are worth having, some are just not worth repeating." Yeah, that applies here. I had garlic and chicken one day with fried rice, and the next time I had garlic and broccoli with won ton soup. I'm just not loving it, or really wanting it. Service with a smile! Our delicious dinner included crab rangoon, fried wontons, wonton soup, spring rolls, mu shoo chicken, veggie lo mein, and beef with broccoli. Everything was hot, fresh, and best of all, not greasy! I have a friend whose in laws are Chinese and they think this is the most authentic Chinese around. Gotta agree with Brenda. I've had it a couple times as my sister liked it, but I was not terribly impressed. Fried rice was very greasy from what I remember. Maybe I have too high of standards for Chinese food, but United China in the plaza next to Shaw's is much better. read more

I ordered "steamed mixed vegetables," an entree that came with white or brown rice. He wouldn't let me pay extra to get veg fried rice instead, he was going to charge me for the pint of it and not even give me the "free" rice. Also, AFTER I paid he looks at my receipt and realizes he gave me chicken and mixed veg. It took 10min for him to PICK OFF THE CHICKEN, leaving small pieces of meat covering all the veg. Not sure how to review this, since we didn't get to actually eat here. Granted this experience is based on a Christmas eve attempt, but heres my spin. I know that Chinese places are swamped with take out requests on holidays such as these. But when sit down customers arrive at your establishment, you would think they would get priority treatment since they actually showed up at your place to eat. There were two tables of people in the whole place, and the waiter serving them told us he wouldn't be able to get to us for at least a half hour because the take out was so busy, You know how long it takes to cook Chinese food?? Everything is pre-prepped and half cooked in these joints. They coulda handled it if they were so inclined. Doesn't this guy know that YELP CRITICS could be showing up! ;) But heres a more ominous note. If the place smelled like the most delicious food on the planet was cooking out back, maybe we would've waited it out. But instead it stank of Borax and rancid something or other. Nayyyyyy! Love going here for when I'm in the mood for some General Sao chicken. The chicken is sometimes over cooked and chewy but its almost always great. If you're in the area definitely check them out. They offer dinning inside and take out, I always choose to take out though. read more

I do like Ming Bao. Have I had better Chinese take-out? Yes, but not in Glastonbury. It is exactly what you would expect out of a standard American Chinese take-out joint. I like their boneless spare ribs, cashew chicken and general tsos. Mind you I have never sat down and had a meal there, strictly take-out. read more
