This family ran place has been a staple for my family for years. We would come here to celebrate, and come here just for a family dinner at least once a month for a long time. Our favorites have been the wonton soup, and the chicken salad. They made changes to the wontons, which used to be my fav part, in the soup, and they now taste overwhelmingly like celery and rosemary. Not good. The salad is still good, just has gotten smaller in size over the years. Now onto the service. In the past, the service has been good. Nothing extraordinary, but also nothing to complain about. For the past year, however, there is one man that has become increasingly rude. We were regular customers for years, he knew us. We have no clue what we could have done to make him not like us, but it was very apparent lol especially on this last visit. He was very rude to my mother, and after taking our order, went to the counter and slammed the menus down loudly. He was very polite to the couple sitting behind us, but seemed irritated to be helping us. I honestly couldn't believe the tone of voice he was using. I am also a server, and I couldn't imagine speaking to someone like that. Especially knowing they bring repeated business. Very rude, left a bad taste in our mouth. What was once our family's favorite restaurant has turned into a memory and has been replaced witch mediocre food and even worse service. We will not be returning. read more

I'm used to eating Chinese buffet type food and I was surprised at how authentic and tasty this Real food was. I ordered spicy beef and tin foil chicken packets with a side of almond chow yuk(?). I didn't like how the rice was only pork fried rice abd they wouldn't substitute any other fried rice in place of it. The flavor was very good and I loved the peanuts. Con: I saw some shady characters in the parking lot and it seemed to be in a bad area. I won't come back simply because of that. read more

I wonder if I went to the same restaurant as these other reviews. We wanted to take a friend out for his birthday who was visiting from out of town. He said he wanted Chinese, so we Yelped Chinese food, finding Ming's. Our first impression wasn't a positive one, the restaurant was quite rough looking, appearing to have been last decorated ages ago. There were half a dozen people eating, and at 5:30 that seemed a good indicator. Besides, some of the best food I've eaten was at restaurants that didn't spend much on appearances. We ordered potstickers to start, following with a variety of other menu items for dinner. I wondered if I was being too picky, each item we received tasted like something one might get from a cafeteria. However, in short order, my two companions started complaining about the food. The Mongolian Beef was mostly bell peppers, the Sweet and Sour Chicken was over cooked and chewy, and the chow mein was fairly tasteless. The waitress was sweet, but we only saw her twice. We even had to go to the counter to get our bill. Let's hope that our trip was an anomaly, the other reviews seem to suggest that, but we won't be back to find out. read more

I just order from Ming's thru Uber Eats. Was disappointed my shrimp was small and pork chow mein did not have enough chow mein.

Aesthetically Ming's color scheme and decor makes me turn my nose up and want to walk out because it's so awful. As most local Chinese restaurants in Fresno have a habit of doing to me. I don't know what it is either it's just the color they use for their furniture it's just so ugly. But that's just minor. If you decide to dine at Ming's even if you're the only person there all the waiters are SO SLOW and none of them bring anything you ask for in a timely fashion. What's redeeming is that they bring you exactly what you ask for though and at least they're polite. Don't eat at Ming's if you're in a rush or have your day planned in way that every activity is time sensitive because Ming's will throw your how schedule off. The menu offers several options. From one person meals,to family style, several chow meins, several different chicken styles,salads,soups, and rices. That even 'picky' eaters can find something. Ming's gives you reasonably sized partitions as well. Food taste good a bit greasy but good. read more

Mings. You get my five stars. No. You don't have the absolute best Chinese food in the world. You don't have the nicest restaurant in the world. You may have lumps in your chairs. And you may not have the nicest bathroom in the world. But what you do have is the "Number 1 Combo" Chinese food I grew up with, Pork Chow Mein, Pork Fried Rice and Fried Shrimp. In a world which has for the most part seemingly gone to this "chow mein" mishmash that includes a lot of cabbage, random vegetables and a lot of grease and a not very good taste, you have the "good old stuff." The bottom layer of pan fried noodles, often stuck together with burnt spots in it, covered with a lot of bean sprouts and a few pieces of celery. Mings. You may not have the best. But what you do have is the good stuff that's pleasing to the soul (especially on a cold day) and easy on the wallet, and all in a setting that reminds of those wonderful times of the past. Plus you keep the water glass filled very well. As far as I'm concerned, you are comfort. You are feel good. You are exactly what feels right when the world feels all wrong, and you have been reliable all these years. You're the real thing! I have been here before and I could have swore I had wrote a review, but it looks like I hadn't! The last time I came left me with an unfavorable opinion, but after hearing so many people tell me how great this place was, I figured I would give them another shot. Now I wish I hadn't. The restaurant itself is a bit run down, but that by itself I don't really care about, and it doesn't affect the rating I give this place. Just a heads up. My first complaint was some of the other patrons who were in the restaurant, two of them had small kids who were screaming at the top of their lungs, while I am just trying to sit down and have a meal. While this isn't necessarily the fault of the restaurant, it seems like they could have asked the parents to take their kids outside until they chilled out. Maybe I just have a major problem with this, because I don't know anyone who would let their kids be complete assholes in a restaurant. The food itself was edible, just barely. I was first served some sort of egg soup concoction that was more akin to warm jello with some egg in it, and a few bits of vegetation thrown in for effect. It was pretty gross, I took two bites and shoved it aside. I got some combo that had spicy beef with fried rice and chow-mein, along with some paper wrapped chicken, and an egg roll. The egg rolls were pretty ok, but I guess an egg roll is pretty hard to fuck up. The paper wrapped chicken wasn't very good, the meat was almost black, like it had been cooking for far to long, and it had a bit of a charred taste, and not the pleasant BBQ type of char either. The chow-mein and rice were unforgettable, not terrible, but not that good either. The spicy beef was not that good, the sauce tasted like some sort of tabasco and saracha mixture that was neither spicy, nor good tasting. On top of that the peanuts they used were downright terrible, they were either well on their way to being old, or were definitely old. They all had an extremely bitter taste, and hardly any actual peanut taste. I can see now that my original assessment of this place was correct, its somewhere that I don't want to eat at. If anyone ever tells you that this place has good food, punch them in the throat for being a dirty lying liar. read more

It's not my favorite Fresno Chinese joint, but it's decent and a few dishes stand out. They only have a few veggie and tofu dishes on the menu, but they substitute tofu for most dishes. Ming's is good, take out style Chinese. They're better than Panda Express or those other big names. They have the all the "traditional" favorites that you can get at Chinese restaurants. But, if you want to have something really good, get the Black Pepper Beef. Really amazing stuff. Also, I would say that the have the best chow mein noodles in the Tower district, maybe in Fresno. Seriously good stuff. Ming's has done some remodeling in the last year, so the decor has been spruced up a little, but it still has a nice, retro feel to it. I am re writing my original review. I was really baffled by the food. There was an odd sort of off putting flavor in every dish we ordered. I'm still not exactly sure what it was. I think possibly it's that everything other than the steamed rice was possibly cooked in peanut oil. The oil overwhelmed all the flavors in everything. The walnut shrimp was fried nicely but I really couldn't taste the sauce at all. I think it was the peanut oil that just over powered the flavors. The teriyaki chicken had an odd crumbly texture on the outside I wasn't fond of. The sauce was fine but not great. Very acidic. The chow mein was also overtaken by the peanut oil. I appreciate that the noodles were crispy but they were so crispy! It came in a frisbee shape sitting on top of the veggies, meat and sauce. I had to use kitchen shears to cut the noodles to serve it. I couldn't mix it in with the sauce and veggies. I liked that the noodles were thin. Once again the peanut oil flavor took over. What saved the day was the next day the leftovers softened up and it tasted much better after being in the fridge sitting. Why I rewrote and changed my rating from one star to three. The meat in everything was tender but the peanut oil gave the chicken in everything an odd taste. Too much peanut oil can be a bad thing apparently. I could be wrong and there is something else they are adding into all their food that gives it this strange taste. Whatever it is it's too much. I paid $70+ for 3 items plus steamed rice. To have it all taste funky really sucks. If the culprit is excess peanut oil I wish they'd mix it up a bit and fry some of the dishes with another type of oil. It's overwhelming. read more

The reason that I give four stars to this over-lighted, exposed-tables-dining room and less than fancy table decor hole-in-the-wall is because it was an easy place to come, be served by a very nice, attentive young man, get our dinners ("half-and -half" dinner plate with two items, soup, tea, and fortune cookie *FOR $4.95!*) very quickly, and pay less than $20.00. I had the half and half with sweet and sour chicken, along with almond chow yuk (spelled correctly?). I was imagining that the latter was not going to be very exciting, but the plate, loaded with ample carrots, celery, broccoli, and onions, cooked in a very tasty sauce and covered with almonds, was what I ate the most! Just writing this makes me want to return there! The sweet and sour chicken (pork on the menu; they allowed me to substitute) was as good as that of any smaller, family-owned places. The soup would have been excellent had someone not added fresh chopped onions right at the end, ugh. No problem. To go here one must not be expecting an atmosphere from a Chinese Dynasty movie set, nor the buzz of San Francisco's Chinatown. One does not take the elevator to the rooftop bistro, or even wait for a host to be seated! However, without pretense, this little place responds perfectly to local competition. What you get is good, no, excellent -- considering the price, and the good food you get for it. I will return! Tomorrow! read more
