I recently took my Halloween Costume into Minh to be hemmed. Her location is within walking distance to my house, so it was all about the location for me. The final product was perfectly hemmed to my specifications - no complaints on the quality of work. She's open until 5:30pm M-F (for those of us with 8-5 jobs, this makes it pretty tough to get to on weekdays) but she also has Saturday hours. I asked to have my item back within 6 days instead of a full week - she said she would have to charge me more for "quick service because shes very, very busy". I was a little put off by this since I felt I had given her plenty of time to do a simple hem job and generally felt she could care less about my business. Overall: Great if you have zero time crunch, steer clear if you're in a bind! read more

Minh is super cool! I read the reviews and got my suit tailored and jeans cut down a bit and she did an awesome job! She knows her fashion sense as well. She did my suit in a two day turnaround as requested, don't know if that is standard but she said no problem! I don't know what the going rate is for alterations, but to get my Jeans done was only $9, the suit it shorten the sleeves and snug up the fit was $45. I needed it to get shortened as well but that would have been $30 fore and more days, no time. I thought it was a fair price, I would have liked to to be completed all around for $60-65 but $75 for perfect work is fine with me. read more

Never had anything altered before. At least not professionally. Came in to get my bridesmaid dress taken in. Tried it on. She measured it out and I left it there for about a week. I forgot to come in on Saturday to pick it up and when I came the next day, Sunday the sign on the door said closed, but the door was open. She said we could come in even though she was closed and I was able to try my dress on. She said it maybe a little tight, but I thought it fit perfectly. She offered to take it out a bit, but I reassured her I was satisfied. She said, well, try it on a few days before the wedding and if you need me to take it out a bit I can still do that. She has hemmed pants, done alterations on a bridesmaid dress, taken in two shirts, and even turned a pair of wide leg jeans into boot cut for me. Ann at Minh's is amazing. I received my wedding dress from Spain much later than I was quoted when I ordered (like 2.5 months later!). So when it didn't fit, there wasn't enough time to send it back. This dress seemed to have been made for someone else. It couldn't even close in the back, much less zip, and it was about a foot too long! Ann worked tirelessly on this dress for months to make it fit. She intricately disassembled the lace and hand sewed it all back together! I found Minh because her shop is located directly next to Stephanie's Bakery-a very big plus. I had some stuff that needed alterations or fixing and brought it all in. Yes-if you are not in a big hurry..that would probably be preferred since this lady is in demand and busy! But as the others as stated, she is very sweet and eager-to-please. The work is always flawless and she knows all the tricks of the sewing trade and can perform miracles on clothing that you would otherwise think not possible. I was just in this week and her shop is full of all kinds or bridal and bridesmaid dresses waiting for fixing. Ming said this is her busiest time of year and she has been in that particular location 22 years doing her sewing thing. She has such a constant variety of people traipsing in-and-out all day long, you'd think it was a crack house-which it is not. But if your crack is a perfectly altered dress or resurrecting a favorite outfit, then Minh is just the sewing drug of choice for you. read more

I just picked up two pairs of jeans ($10 each) that I needed shortened. She DOESN'T match the thread in your jeans. She uses normal "jean" thread. Just know that before you drop them off. So if your jeans are stitched in yellow thread, she still uses the golden jean thread to hem the bottom. And the hemming job doesn't even look professional. If you don't care what your jeans look like, then use her. If you have jeans that need specialty thread, go somewhere else. read more

I have had Minh take up several items of formal wear. She has made items smaller and has hemmed dresses of different fabrics. Her work is flawless. I have sewn all my life and have even done tailoring, so I know good work when I see it. Minh is kind, cheerful and friendly. And her prices are fantastic! I took her a beaded dress this week that needed significant reworking due to being 3 sizes too large, and she was honest with me that she could not do the work. I was very happy with Minh. She was super sweet and friendly when I brought in my alterations. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in. It had some boning in the top as well as 3 or 4 layers of material that made it a bit of a complicated alteration. She did it PERFECTLY and charged me $45 (the bridal store wanted $65 to alter it). A lot of the other reviews spoke about her timing. I had to have this dress 6 days after I dropped it off. I did call the day before I needed it to make sure it would be done, and she said this was helpful. I also brought in 2 skirts that I love, but needed taken in, and she did a beautiful job on those 2. One of them had diagnol lines and a bit of a complicated pattern. Somehow she took it in without altering the pattern. Very happy. read more

Had a pair of slacks that I needed hemmed for a wedding and so I began my search for an alteration shop. This one had good reviews and was close to my house and so I decided to check it out. I was very pleased when I was greeted warmly when I entered and the woman, whom I assume is the owner, immediately made me feel at ease. I don't know much about sewing or alteration and she answered my questions without making me feel stupid. I also had my one year old son with me which made it difficult to change into the slacks, so she held him for me. The turn around on the slacks was so quick and when I came back to pick them up she remember me and asked about my family. What more could you ask for? i had 5 wonderful, memorable, carefree years living the life of a beach bum undergrad in sunny san diego. then i had to ruin it all and graduate, and found myself with a real job. i was forced to retire a good majority of my capris and tank tops to make room in my closet for lame dress slacks and cardigans. it was depressing. even more depressing was the fact that every pair of slacks i found at stores needed to be altered in some way. i found minh's alterations randomly, driving back home into OB. it was convenient (i always found parking right in front of the store) and reasonably-priced (research jobs don't pay diddly-squat). the woman who worked there - minh perhaps? - was very nice. she remembered me after going in just once and recalled little facts from our previous conversations each time i went in after that. i'm still looking for a good alteration shop in san francisco with friendly owners - haven't found one yet but am still hopeful one exists. read more
