As a rule, when visiting an auto shop in New York City I expect to be hustled and exploited (all the more so since, truth be told, I don't know a lot about car maintenance). So this place is a refreshing surprise. In my two visits, I have been impressed by the professionalism and courtesy of the staff and pleased to note the lack of opacity in their pricing for parts and labor. On my most recent visit, I informed the mechanic that I would like a full, detailed inspection and a report of everything that is at least mildly wrong with the car. No problem! He wrote it up, went over everything with me point by point, and asked if I had any questions about his diagnoses. When I recently got my ignition coil replaced, Minh's charged me as much as the VW dealer, which is notorious for overpricing. When I asked Vinnie, the mechanic at Minh's he said that the VW dealers always overcharge. When I told him he was charging me as much as them (only $4 less on a $500 job) he just stared at me and said nothing. If you are going to pay this much, you might as well pay for the quality and guarantee of a dealer. And, they charged me a $90 diagnostic fee that they didn't apply to the cost of the work like most mechanics. No reason to return. read more

Great service! When do you ever feel like you have found a conscientious, attentive and honest car repair shop? I've taken my Volvo S40 and most recently my Jaguar X-Type there and my experience has been fantastic. Nick, John and Tam have alwys explained every repair to us carefully. They fielded numerous phone calls from us, provided options and worked with us to make the repairs which fit our budget and advised us on what we can defer until a later date. VERY different from other shops, who will make every minor issue sound like a huge safety risk and twist your arm into pouring every single dollar in your car that they can squeeze out of you. Not here! They even threw a critical part in for free, when we declined a repair due to price concerns. They did that out of gratitude for our loyalty to them and because of their concern for the safety of our car. I highly recommend them. read more

Ability 4.5 Service 4 I like these guys. You can trust them and they dont nickel and dime you for small stuff (ie: checking something or doing some very basic task). They seem to know their stuff and take the time to explaineverything--the transparency is reassuring. They also dont overpromise or jump the gun on the problem which many mechanics seem to do. However, recently they have not been as diligent about quoting me exact amounts for the work and things have taken longer to fix due to logistical dropped balls. You will likely deal with vinny or tam when working w/ them. All and all, hard to find mechanics you can trust and are also technically sound esp with german cars. If you are in a rush to get your cars fixed, not sure this is the right shop given my previous experiences. read more

MINH'S is first rate! My experience with them has been unprecedented. A few months back I took my Bug to the volkswagen dealership in bay ridge to get my driver's side car window motor replaced and an oil change. They call me the next day with an estimate and they tell me I need a whole new transmission in addition to a slew of other very costly repairs. Making an estimate I thought would be around $500, to $3000! I needed a second opinion because the dealership was clearly trying to extort me which is when I went online and read all the great reviews of MINH'S and gave them a call. I was initially looking for a mechanic that could beat the price of the repairs volkswagen said I needed. But long story short, my main man Vinny said he couldn't find any evidence of my transmission going, other than spilled oil on the outside of the engine. Once it was clean, there still was no evidence of my transmission dying. That alone saved me over $1000!! That ordeal is enough for MINH'S to have won my patronage for life, but they are great about communicating the details of the repairs they find that need to be done immediately and what can wait. Which is sincerely appreciated for someone like me on a budget. They also send detailed email estimates including photos, and if you don't respond to the email by a certain time, they give you a call. As I said, they are first rate! read more

I've been coming to MINHS Automotive for the past 2 years since I brought in my '08 Audi Q7. I met James and he's been her guardian angel. An inspection was done with photos. After checking Yelp for an 'honest mechanic' in Brooklyn, I was happily surprised to discover this place right around the corner from my new home. My experience coincides exactly with the previous 5 star reviews. Vinny was my man- polite, professional, and patient. As has been noted before, they fit me in for an apt. quickly, were very prompt in diagnosing the car, and called to explain in detail what was discovered. When it turned out that the repairs on my old beater's suspension would be double the blue book value, they gave me the name of 3 possible places to scrap it, along with advice on getting the best price. The kicker is they didn't charge me a nickel for the estimate- which clearly took them time because they managed to exhaustively list and price every part and repair. If my car wasn't just deemed a mechanical corpse, I would have been proud to call them 'my mechanic.' read more

I'm retracting my 1 star review and replacing it with 2 star. Minh's did call me up and told me I still had warranty left on those bearings for 2 years. So I guess I should've checked first before I went elsewhere. They claim they did not give me junk and they were OEM bearings. I wish they would've told me about the warranty when I first got my repair and I would've came back to claim it. Sucks that I just lost so much money. read more

The shop is as spotless as possibly can be, and the workers are both knowledgeable and efficient. They take photos of the parts of your car that they work on so they could explain to you later what they saw and have done. You would feel as comfortable entrusting them your car as your dealership, except they are better located. The price is on par with dealership - it was $50 to change oil on my 14 yr old car - definitely not the cheapest around. They are super busy, and getting an appointment could be a challenge. Because of where they are, and because they are so busy, before and after they work on your car, they will park it in the street in the neighborhood. read more

I had a fault light come on in my 750i. Searched around for a good place to take her because from my experience with foreign cars I know the wrong mechanic will cost you in the long run. There are so many shops in Brooklyn but ones who specialize in foreign cars are few and far between. My appointment was at 8am so I made sure I was early so I could get my car in. Promptly at 8am I go in. I meet a gentleman by the name of Anthony who I tell what's going on with my car. He tells me he needs to run some diagnostic test on my car and he would get back to me in a day or so. About a day later I get an email and a text showing me my diagnostic result. I have a bad cylinder. Not a cheap job to get done but when you buy these cars you know what you're getting in to. So we change the all cylinders and the plugs(makes no sense to change one). Of course with my luck we get our 4th blizzard of the so called spring. I'm thinking well add another few days on to the wait time but I was wrong. The day after the the blizzard my car was ready to go. My car was clean ran well and had no faults. The reason I took the time to write this review is in this day and time people make sure to write a negative review of a business or service. I just wanted make sure that good service is also rewarded with a review. If you have a foreign car and want the best professional service check out my boy Anthony and MINHS. I found this place via the cartalk.com site. I didn't know if it would be busy so I got there well before the 8am opening on a Monday. The mechanic asked me to fill out the important info about my Jetta and write down what I wanted. I went in for an oil change, NY inspection, and a brake check as a mechanic elsewhere had told me that my brakes were worn and needed replacing. By noon, I received a phone call at work that everything was ready. When I arrived after work, I spoke with Tam. He said that they had replaced a broken tail light, didn't try to get me to buy additional services, and was very straightforward and professional. I was charged a fair price to boot. Everyone there courteous, the place is well lit and very clean, and I would take my car there again. I only gave it four stars because it was routine maintenance. However, I'm sure I would have given them five if there was some real mechanic matter to resolve. I'll go back there for my oil changes and any maintenance I may need. A good mechanic is hard to find. Keep him when you do and treat him well. read more

My car likes to crap out at least once a year and this time it decided to not start in the middle of Brooklyn. Not being from anywhere in Brooklyn I was a little wary about my chances of finding a good auto-body service center. I was pleasantly surprised when I found MINHS off of yelp and gave them a call. I have a Jetta 2001 and based on what I was telling these guys about what was wrong with my car, they were able to guess within one year of my car's actual DOB, which indicated to me they knew something about cars, especially VW (checking their website I found they are certified to work on VW's). The guys at MINHS were amazingly nice, know their stuff!, spoke English, clearly explained to me what was going on with my car and quickly fixed my car. They recommended a great towing service that cost me only $65 bucks..They even vacuumed out my car before giving it back to me! My car ended up costing it's usual $1,000 yearly check up (the brakes and rotators were rusted done) but I still recommend this place. read more

These guys were awesome! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I dealt with Tam, who was really honest and extremely knowledgeable when it came to the power steering problem on my 2006 G35. I went to TWO other mechanics who told me I had to replace the whole rack & pinion for around $1600 (one even said I had to replace the power fluid steering pump for another $500). Tam called me after a day of doing a FREE inspection and explained it was a broken nut (or connection) where the column met the rack. The cost?... $160!! I was amazed. My car is steering like new and is clean from the free wash. Thanks Tam and MINHS!! I would not hesitate to go back. read more
