Leased a brand-new 2025 VW Tiguan from Bay Ridge VW, and within 26 miles the check engine light came on. The safety features stopped working, remote start doesn't work, and after a month, the car is still sitting at the dealership waiting for parts. This is supposed to be a new car, yet it's been nothing but a nightmare. The sales staff also lied at the point of sale -- they promised a trunk privacy cover as part of the deal, and now they claim it "doesn't exist" for this model. When we asked for an exchange or replacement vehicle, they flat-out refused. Bay Ridge VW takes no responsibility, offers no real help, and leaves customers stranded with defective vehicles. We're now afraid to drive outside the city because we can't trust the car's safety systems. This dealership only cares about making the sale -- once they get your signature, you're on your own. Bay Ridge VW Service Center has held my car hostage for 8 months. I dropped it off in September '23, and for 8 months have received little to no communication about updates, mixed messages when I am able to get a hold of them, and false promises about when my car will be repaired. It's been exactly 8 months since the day I dropped my car off, and I still have no idea when it will be repaired, and can't get a hold of their team over the phone. Brought my Volkswagen Passat in for oil and filter change. They do more then that as some alert was set on my car that every time I hit 20 mph it started blinking and made noises. While turning the key to my 2015 VW Jetta ignition, the key snapped in half! The car did turn on, but the key was in two pieces. I took the key to the Bay Ridge Volkswagen Service & Parts and I was told I would have to pay $155 and wait 2 weeks for a replacement key. After 1 week, I received the replacement key -- however, the key does not start the ignition. When I turn this replacement key, the error message "NO KEY" appears. When I returned to Bay Ridge Volkswagen Service & Parts, I ask for them to fix this non-functioning replacement key. However, the Bay Ridge Volkswagen Service & Parts representative tells me the $155 key is just the mechanical key and it will not turn on the vehicle. The Bay Ridge Volkswagen Service & Parts representative continues that in order for the key to actually turn on the VW Jetta so I can drive it, I will need to pay another $175 for the programming of the the key. For the first time, I learn the replacement key is actually $325, not the $155. I ask why the Bay Ridge Volkswagen Service & Parts representative, "Why would I want a key that does not turn on the vehicle?" Now I am referred to the manager (no name tag) who immediately has no interest in listening to my situation or my question. I ask for a refund of the $155 non-functioning key. The manager tells me no refund is possible and to pay another $175 in order for the key to the car to be usable. I feel ripped off. I bought my first car from them in June 2019. Brand new Jetta SEL. My experience was pretty standard. I admit it was hard getting in contact with the original gentleman I spoke with who took me on a test drive. I decided to buy the car, but he never called me back. So I went in and found someone else. I don't particularly like haggling because when I buy something I already know what I'm getting into... So going in, handing them a check for the down payment, signing papers, and driving off was pretty much what I did. I think that's why I may have had a good experience with them unlike some other reviewers. Overall, it was a very easy process, the financing paperwork was all done and ready for me when I came in. The person who processed my financing was kind and laid out various options for me in terms of extended warranty and insurance with no pressure added. The car was spotless when I got it and the sales representative spent a good hour with me going over the features of the car. I would buy from them again and likely will when my friend is in the market for his own car. By the way - the Service department is indeed disorganized. I recommend setting up your appointment ONLINE and a MONTH in advance so you can book a time that works for you, or go to the VW in Queens. It's also very awkward and cramped with no drop off space for your car. You drive up to a door and honk your horn loudly. read more

Brought my 2012 Beetle in for 2 recall items. Ran perfect on the way in. During the day they discovered 4,500 in work all way overpriced. When I picked it up, the car now needs to be jumped to start. Something was clearly damaged by them. I white knuckled my my way to my mechanic and sure enough the car is absolutely dead when I was done parking. If I didn't go there the car would be running. We came here as a recommendation from a family friend to purchase a new car. We worked with Joseph B. We came in, saw the car, and decided to get it. The process was kind of unorganized -- papers everywhere and not a great deal of information. Once everything was signed, we wanted to pick the car up a few days later and got push back from not only Joseph but also his manager...asking us repeatedly what's stopping us from taking the car today, etc. At that point, we were kind of put off and eventually were able to stick to picking up the car a few days later. We told them we wanted to trade in our old car and they said it would be fine but then Joseph told us a client of his was interested in buying our car for a little more money so we agreed. The day we went to pick up the car, we were brought over to his client and honestly, when they say, "trust your gut", you really should. The client seemed ok at first but of course, when it came time to the actual purchase the week after, the client decided against it. It was extremely frustrating that the salesperson basically cost us our trade-in and we were stuck with an old car that we wanted to get rid of. And on top of that, when we tried to reach back out to Joseph, he was standoffish and not very responsive. I don't think that this is proper protocol and seems a bit shady, to be honest. When we signed additional paperwork with another manager when picking up the car, the manager tried to charge us additional money for the car and expected us not to notice. We definitely did and called him out on it and he had the audacity to say "it's only $135". WTF? That could be groceries for a family. And on top of that, one of our seatbelts was not retracting properly and now we have to go get that fixed as well. I would say, go to other dealerships with more honest and genuine people. read more

The customer service person I dealt with inside the office was very good, his name is Andy. Very patient and discussed everything and didn't try to up-sell extra products or other services. Very nice guy and my 2-star rating have nothing to do with him. I've been going to this location for service for 2 years pre COVID. I never really had a problem with the quality of service until now and that is why I'm giving them 2 stars. I was told over the phone [reception] what they are doing for safety precautions. When I arrived to drop off the car, the guy who exited the car in front of me didn't wear the mask over his face or sanitize his hands. I had to ask him to do so before entering my car before driving it into the shop. He smiled and graciously accepted my squirt of Purell sanitizer into his hands. I was told by the reception they "spray and wipe down" inside the cars after working on them. But the guy at the car pick-up area said he wasn't aware of that. So who knows what they are doing exactly. I will continue to go to this dealership for my VW service, overall they do a good job and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time during these challenges times. I purchased a tire and rim protection for $800. a couple months into my driving my tire was damaged. I took it to the dealership thinking I would not have any issues while they took me for a ride. No one wanted to listen to me and also they kept on saying my tire was good they would not replace it. Very very disappointed. Disaster service. They don't know how to do business. Everything started with this car. I went there with an empty check to purchase this car. I asked them whatever they wanted to get paid.... cash or check doesn't matter for me. I asked them to lower the price a little bit and they refused to do it. We can lower $100 or $250 credit at vw... they said. I can purchase a winter coat and get $200 discount. They refused me. I contacted them 4 times pretending to be someone else. They where rude and I gave up. I got upset, I wouldn't buy that car anymore. I might buy a Atlas later on but not from them. The last conversation was on January 3rd and 1 week later they lowered the price by $1200 And then I went to do business at the Mercedes-Benz. Of course I spent more money at the MB but the problem with the Passat wasn't the money but the car value, it had a paint scratch and had a mediocre service at the location. I spent $35k at MB. I could have purchased 2 cars from vw this year . I told the salesman... tell your manager to be fair with the car price otherwise he will sell this car as an antique its a 4 years old car (November 2017) and the car have been for sale since October last year I will send them a courtesy picture message with my car. Dishonest and Disorganized. I would give zero stars if I could. After moving to Brooklyn from out of state, I was looking to sell my VW GTI. I reached out to Bay Ridge Volkswagen online and, after receiving an emailed offer range to purchase my car, called the dealer to set up an appointment to bring my car in for final appraisal and sale. I explicitly told the employee I spoke with that I was only looking to sell my car and would not be purchasing a new car from them. I asked them if they were interested in this deal since a lot of dealers prefer to only take in used cars on trade. They told me that they were and made me an appointment for 2:30 pm on a Sunday after reviewing the offer details with me over the phone and confirming certain details about the car. When I got to the dealer for my appointment, none of the staff knew what I was talking about, nor were the folks I was supposed to meet with at the dealership that day. They told me that "maybe" someone could look at my car that day, but that I would have to come back later in the week because the person who appraised used cars wasn't available that day and only worked Monday - Friday from 9 am - 5 pm. It was a complete waste of my time. I drove out to Long Island later that same afternoon, sold my car, and took the LIRR back to Brooklyn. If you're not interested in buying used cars outside of a sale or trade, just say so. Don't waste potential customers' time by providing web-based offers, making appointments, and having folks drive out to Bay Ridge just to try to sell them a car. read more

We are currently leasing our second vehicle from Bay Ridge VW. Our first experience was a good one - we were pleased with the salesman and enjoyed the car. The trouble started when we turned our car in and leased the second vehicle. A representative from the dealership told us that it wasn't necessary to have our first car inspected before we turned it in for the new car. We were then charged for excess wear and tear for damage that did not meet VW standards for excess wear and tear - $600 dollars of charges. Because of the misinformation provided by the dealership, we could not dispute these charges. After speaking with VW of America, we were told that we would have to take this up with the dealership. We contacted David Gokhshtein, Bay Ridge VW's Business Manager, three times, each time a receptionist took my number. My calls were never returned. While reviewing my Turn-In Settlement and my Lease for the second vehicle, I found several charges that were not correct - amounting to nearly $1000 dollars. The dealership will not even discuss the charges nor take responsibility for the mistakes made by their employees. In addition, VW of America will not take responsibility for the business practices of their dealers - their argument being that the dealership is a private business. I continue to argue the charges and as of this post have not received any contact from the dealership themselves. I DO NOT recommend you give this dealership your business. The business is a classic fair weather friend. I continue to make payments on my new vehicle while they continue to try to collect money that I do not owe. BUYER BEWARE!!! BAIT & SWITCH!!! Do not buy a car from these crooks! I got a call from Joann Hinz on Wednesday evening at 8:30 PM (30 min before closing). I informed her that I was looking for a TDI model, Jetta with the Premium Nav Pkg. I didnt care about color, or transmission, or pretty much anything else. She informed me that they had 2 Jetta's on the lot, and proceeded to tell me all about the colors and interiors, etc.., and recommended I come in the next day. The next morning at 9:00 AM, I called her back and confirmed that they indeed had the models on the lot, and she assured me that they did and that I should come in. Later that day I left work early, and set out on the 50 Min train ride to Bay Ridge. When I got there, I found Jorge, as Joann apparently actually didnt work in the VW Dealership, but out of the Honda of Bay Ridge just down the block. Jorge proceeded to inform me that they not only did not have the 2 Jetta TDI models that Joann assured me were there, but that they in fact had a total of zero (0) TDI's of ANY model on the lot, and he didn know why anyone would tell me differently. Yesterday after being parked in the baking sun all day the passenger side window fell inside the door, which I'm given to understand is a fairly common problem with the window clips on older VWs. Everyone who brings their vehicle to this shop beware! I took my car in and was given the run around. First, the advisor has a disdain of women. When I was talking to him he walked away. He told me that he would call me later so I waited for several hours for the call. So I came to him to ask for the estimates for my car. I brought my car in because, of a recall and bodywork. He admitted to me that he wasn't concerned with bodywork. Excuse me but I always thought the customer's requests were important? Well, I didn't receive a call from this advisor until the evening after I rented a car to get home. This poor customer service is only the beginning, so hold on to your hat, the advisor stated that my car was examined by a mechanic and some problems were found. I am suspicious of some of the so called problems: 1) An oil changed was needed? An oil changed was done about six weeks prior and I have not driven far to require another now.; 2) Something was wrong with my horn-What's wrong with my horn? I blew my horn the morning that I took my car to this shop and has blew it since then. There is nothing wrong with my horn; 3) Axle is busted and need an alignment -I don't know if this is true, so I'm at another repair shop now as I type this review. I must know if the axle is . busted. "Busted" is the word that the advisor used; 4) The advisor had told me over the phone the total charges before I came to the shop but when I went to the cashier the bill was higher. I went ahead and paid it just to leave that place. It came out to an extra $47 after the taxes were added to the amount the advisor had told me. I got my car back and drove around the corner and my car was shaking like Jello. So I immediately called and went back to the shop about it and that I saw the engine light on. The advisor called out a mechanic and the mechanic claimed that a spark plug was worn out-Really? The spark plugs was one of the repairs that I paid this shop to do because, they claimed they needed to be replaced. Today, just before I arrived to another repair shop, "epc" appeared on my dashboard. So I have to find out about it. read more

Just to make sure I can get seen immediately, I make an appointment for 9:30 am. I get there on time, and the guy asks me whether I'm waiting or dropping it off. I tell him that my appointment says waiting, and the people on the phone said waiting wouldn't be a problem. "I don't know who would've told you that. It's gonna be a few hours before we can work on your car." Wait, what? What's the point of the appointment system? What happened to diagnosing it without an appointment? "We don't do that here." Why did you say you did? "I don't know." Well, sounds great. Now, I've wasted my entire day coming down here, only to be told that everything they told me on the phone wasn't true. I'm convince this place will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you in the door. It's honestly worth driving to Long Island to get your VW serviced at a better place. We took our car in due to damage on the door. They said it should take approximately 10 days. We called after 3.5 weeks and they said our car was ready and just forgot to tell us. When we got our car back we realized a knob on the console was missing, even though that wasn't the part of the car they were working on. Walked in about an hour before closing on a Saturday, wanting to test drive a Tiguan. First, no one greeted us. Nothing. We stood in the front waiting awkwardly for a few minutes. Finally, we just went over and started looking at the car. Still, no one approached or said anything. So, after about five minutes, we went up to the nearest salesperson and asked him if he could tell us about the Tiguan and let us test drive one. His reply after looking at his watch, "Well, it is a little late..." Um, okay. Finally, he yelled for someone to go get a license plate and take us out. She was very nice and told us about the car, but we had no idea who she was, other than her name. In truth, we thought she was a receptionist. After the test, we went back into the showroom and she basically disappeared. We went back to the first person we talked to and asked if we could have a business card in case we had further questions or wanted to, oh, buy a freaking Tiguan. He said, "Well, I'm the sales manager, so you wouldn't buy it from me...so...well...okay, I can give you my card." And he did. I appreciate no-pressure sales approaches, but this was more of an MIA-sales approach. I've been here a few times, just to get my oil changed and have always felt the place seemed a bit sketchy, but didn't have any concrete reason to support the feeling. Well, last time I got my oil changed, the mechanic didn't fully tighten the drain plug so all of my oil ran out! I had to roll into a service station with my check engine light on - with no oil! The people at this car dealer know nothing about customer service. I am giving them a 0 in actuality but you're not allowed to give 0 stars. The 0 comes from the shabby and volatile nature of the sales mangers. I called to schedule a return on my leased vehicle as per the Volkswagen company instructions. Apparently, Volkswagen doesn't communicate with their dealers because this location was very annoyed and irritated at 10 am in the morning for no reason when I asked about scheduling. I spoke to Ian the sales manager who told me that they aren't accepting cars because of space. I said I understand that but I only have 3 days and this was not explained by the company who informed me I can return the care to any Volkswagen dealer. Moreover, this "policy" isn't stated on the website or on the phone service at Bay Ridge Volkswagen. I stated that because isn't it fair to notify your customers of policies? Ian asked me where I originally bought the car and why I wasn't returning it there. Firstly, it's none of your business where I live. Secondly, your company [Volkswagen] doesn't support this idea that you must return the car where it was purchased. I only know this because Volkswagen gave me a document that indicated I can return the care to any dealer and indicated this over the phone at the end of my inspection. Thirdly, BAY RIDGE doesn't even notify you of anything unless you call. You would think Bay Ridge would do their do diligence to avoid this issue because it came out that they have a spacing issue and they need to store the cars in Staten Island. I totally get that but it's not my issue that your company allows cars to be returned to any dealer. Anyway, the real zero at Bay Ridge is Ian's manger who is haughty, rude, and yells for no apparent reason. Ian transferred me over to him because he realized that I wasn't understanding the policy because it hasn't been listed any where. More importantly, it wasn't indicated by the company Volkswagen. The manager was yelling over the phone because he was clearly frustrated. I would explain I understand, but the question is how do customers know the policy. He kept avoiding answering the questions or being rude saying things like it's our policy while yelling. Before I ended the call I told him he should learn not to yell at customers and told him to have a nice day. I was going to re-purchase another vehicle from them when I returned but now I won't because I definitely don't want to deal with Ian or his manger (who clearly has issues with his ego and sharing information with customers). They don't deserve my business and they prob don't deserve anyone else's if they are this rude over the phone.
