I needed a tux for a wedding. I found Minsky on Yelp and gave them a try. The service was friendly from Don. His helper wasn't the most personable guy. I came in a day early to pick up my tux and did not like the jacket's fit. Don remeasured and had a proper-fitting jacket for the next day. All the other items fit well. I felt the jacket and pants were slightly on the worn side- not bad, but not as crisp and sharp as I expected. I could see this was a rental by the way the sleeves and pant legs are altered. I haven't rented a tux in a long time, as I have had my own for many years, but sadly, I "outgrew" my most recent. So that is to say I've been spoiled by custom-fit tuxes since after I married 40+ years ago, until this one. Maybe I'm being too harsh? I will still recommend them, just be sure you go a day before you need the tux to pick it up in case it needs tweaking. read more

Being a larger man, with difficulty keeping weight off, I personally don't spend money on nice clothing. Hence, I have no formal attire - rather, I have jeans, t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants... you get the idea. And, on that note I am certain that Don, the proprietor of Minsky Formal Wear, was a little taken aback when he saw my bulky form standing in front of him asking to be fitted for a tuxedo. If Don was at all surprised by my presence he was very gracious and did not let it show. Don was very professional and knew exactly what I needed. He made quick work of my measurements and fitting, and gave me confidence in my decision to utilize Minsky Formal Wear as my Clothier in this instance. Due to a huge misunderstanding discovered on the Friday night before a Saturday late afternoon wedding I found myself and my three sons in need of 4 tuxedos. Making matters worse we were in from Cleveland and not all that familiar with Dallas. So I found Minsky's on the internet and called the shop at 8:05 on Saturday morning. The tailor there answered and said sure he could whip out four tuxedo's in time for a 5:00 wedding downtown. Uh really? Sure enough we headed there for fitting and four hours later we picked them up. To our amazement and total satisfaction, and as witnessed by the many folks at the wedding, each one of us ended up "looking like a million bucks" in our tuxedo. Let me tell you, Mr. Minsky is top-notch!!! I walked into his shop about 3 weeks before my wedding with a tuxedo in hand I bought online. I went in for alterations and soon realized the fit was beyond correction. So, we went over my options, including sending the suit back and ordering a smaller size. Time was of essence. I tried on a jacket in the shop to get my true size. The material and fit of the jacket was GREAT!! He said he "may" can get a tux ordered and delivered in the next few days. He stated he would call the supplier first thing in the morning as it was after 5pm in NY. The next morning he called as promised and informed me they did have my size. I went to the shop that day and paid to have my tuxedo ordered. The tux came a few days later and I came in again to get final measurements. I also got my vest and shirt from him as well. He made sure I had everything I needed. Two days before the wedding I realized my 10 yr old nephew pants were short and Mr. Minsky also made adjustments on them to allow more length while I waited. This man worked wonders to make sure I looked my best on my wedding day. After alterations, I picked up our tuxedos, vest, and shirts dry-cleaned and ready to go. I got so many compliments on my tuxedo. It was tailored to perfection!!! AND, Mr. Minsky during a time while I was stressed, constantly reassured me that everything will be fine. He took a stressful situation and made it pleasant. So, I am so grateful to Mr. Minsky for making me look AWESOME on my wedding day!! (Dec. 4th) He is such a joy to speak with. My husband (still getting used to this) and his groomsmen all got their suits for our wedding from here. This was one of the things he asked for total control over, but he ended up delegating the tie color to me when I went in to get my 2nd wedding dress altered. From the moment I met the owner, I was impressed with his excellent style and also by the awesome service we received. This was my fiancee's second visit and my first. By this point, all the men had been measured, so we just needed to decide on vest, tie, shirt, shoes and handkerchief details. He was patient with us and showed us many options on the mannequins (per our request) until we chose one. He offered suggestions, and wasn't pushy with the suggestions...it was more of him sharing his expertise, which I appreciated since this is my first marriage, first time helping someone with a suit rental, etc. He also gladly showed me what we selected for the guys on 3 other occasions. The suits arrived on time and all the groomsmen looked so handsome and awesome. (I'll post a picture after I receive them from the photographer.) The purpose for my first visit, however, was to get my dress altered. Minsky's does alterations for a great price. My alterations were speedy and completed in a week. I lost weight, and he completed the second round the following week. I was so pleased with these, that had I know he did alterations, I would have entrusted my primary wedding dress alterations to him. The week of the wedding, several of my out of town guests needed their outfits steam pressed, so we gave Minsky's the business as well. He completed those within a day, which was just in time for my wedding. Everyone looked great and sharp. I'll keep Minsky's in mind for our future suit/tux rentals, alterations and steam pressing needs. Go to this place if you need zipper replacement for one of your favorite jackets. For months, my husband lived with a jacket that could not zip up and was broken. He bought this down jacket last year! I was referred to Minsky's in Plano and took my husband's favorite jacket, as well as brought one of my new dress pants that is sheer on the outside and solid slip lined on the inside of pant legs. The hem on this pants was very delicate because of the sheer material and they did an excellent job! As for my husband's jacket, it looks good with the new zipper. Now its like new!! At return, informed there was a late charge when it was never mentioned and the disclaimer was so small it couldn't be read without glasses. Outstanding!! I needed a tux for a very formal wedding in Italy. I got fitted and the tux was ready at the promised time. We did a second fitting right then and the pants needed to be hemmed. Don did it on the spot. It took about 30 minutes because people kept coming into the store. I walked out, in about half hour, with a great fitting tux and all the accessories!
