Great little diner with booths and counter stools, and an old school menu including open-faced sandwiches, meat and vegetable dinners, sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Plenty of variety ; and plenty of pie! Food was simple and tasty. Server was fast and friendly. Price was reasonable. Big menu makes it an easy dinner location. The reviews on Yelp were pretty mixed so I wanted to check it out for myself. I ordered the Pesto burger and a beer. Pesto burger was such a unique flavor that I can say I've never had before. It was well cooked and the bun was crispy on the outside and warm in the inside. They didn't seem to have breakfast at night which I was a bit disappointed by. But they have a huge menu so you're destined to find something you like. read more

Awesome breakfast cafe in downtown Wausau. It has been around since the 50's and is still owned and operated by the local family. The interior is still the original from what I can tell. Usually after 3 generations the grand kids mess everything up, not this time! They are open for breakfast and lunch, I'm not much of a breakfast person so I have only had their lunch. It's pretty inexpensive and you get a lot of food for the money. Try the cheese curds and their soups!!! read more

The company I work for had The Mint Cafe cater for us a few times. The food was good so a co-worker and I went to lunch there a few weeks ago. The place was jamb-packed with people! We were seated very quickly. While the place seemed over-crowded it still had a great ambiance. The food was excellent! I had the Malibu Chicken dinner for lunch. It was soooo good and everything seemed to be so fresh. And their portion sizes are great for the prices! I was quite content when I left. read more

It's unfortunate that the Mint Cafe isn't open on Sundays because this place is hoppin' for breakfast/brunch on Saturdays. But hey, everyone needs a break - especially in a family-run diner. The service here is incredible. The bottomless cups of coffee are never empty, and the servers are such sweethearts. And THE FOOD. I've always enjoyed going to The Mint for lunch. Their portabello mushroom burger is amazing. Because of my love for this diner, we decided to have them cater our wedding recently. And I was not disappointed!! Excellent prices, the food tasting was fun, and the customer service was fantastic. The day of the wedding, the food was, of cours,e delicious. Great service, good food, reasonable prices and fun specials - it's a great spot for breakfast and lunch. Their salad is fresh, liver and onions well done, and sandwiches plentiful. The fries are okay, and hash browns are typically a bit burnt - so I took a star off for the sides. The rolls however, are above average. I love the menu and the location, and often see folks I know when I'm here. I can't help but go to the Mint when I come to town. I remember coming to the Mint when I was growing up and it looked so different then, it seems more popular now than ever. To that end, last time the service was not good. It was breakfast and they were busy, definitely, but we wondered why the server seemed to ignore us. The decor seems to change often. The T-shirts sold up front are so cute! I checked out the Mint Cafe for the first time in my 24 years of living in Wausau just this week. The location is worth the visit. On Wausau's historic 400 block you'll feeling like your back-in-time. The inside has been nicely renovated but still has the old diner feel. The service as 'decent'. I've had much better service but I had no complaints with our server. The food was your typical diner food. Exactly what you'd expect from a cafe establishment. Don't take it as a negative. It was good and plain, almost soul food like. Pure Americana at its finest. Would I drive out of my way for the food? Probably not. Overall it is worth the visit for the experience of dining here. You can't have a better location in Wausau. The food is good and service is family like. Check it out if you feel like a good ol' fashioned diner experience. read more

Just an All-American diner. Good service, good food, good time. The scramble seems to be the thing of the week it was pretty good. The ham was a little tough but otherwise I enjoyed it immensely. Excellent service. Real friendly and absolute attention to my coffee cup. A traditional American diner. We went hoping for breakfast/brunch but ended up in early lunch time. My son ordered a pesto bagel which he really liked. I tried the pesto and it had a nice kick to it. I ordered coffee (lots), cottage cheese and fruit. The presentation of the fruit could be better. This place is great! If I could, I'd give it 6 stars. I had the Italian Scramble, delicious. Everything I had here was great. The scramble was perfectly done, the hash browns were light and almost fluffy. They source their bread from a small, local bakery and the toast (yes, the toast, was tasty). They also have an in-house baker that does their pies. I had the strawberry pie. Oh, it was so good. Not hyper sweet like so many places make them, the natural taste of the strawberries came through perfectly. As you can probably tell, I'm a bit of a foodie. This place made me wish it was near my home in SoCal. Oh, the restaurant itself is quaint, cute, and super clean. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. The lady running the kitchen, well, she's excellent. Clearly. Give 'em a shot, you won't be disappointed. read more

I was recently in Wausau with my wife and one of our daughters and we found this wonderful little cafe. The Mint Cafe is awesome. I loved the atmosphere, service and the food. I had their seasonal Tailgate burger with Rosemary fries. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I finished the meal with a slice of homemade pecan pie. Wonderful! My husband and I both wanted the pot roast melt, so I opted for the turkey sandwich which was good, but his melt was wwwaaaayyyyy good. I wish I had ordered it anyway. My son really liked his super burger, my daughter had the chicken plate which was fine, nothing special. We did enjoy the pizza fries appetizer. It's a thin pizza crust with a thin layer of seasoned mozzarella sliced in long strips with marinara to dip in. We all really liked it.
