A 10 course meal should be a journey and this was the oral adventure I didn't know I was craving. Every bite is masterfully paired with a mild Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, and plum tea as a palette cleanser. Chef Soy of Mint sushi and tapas blesses your tongue with: 1.) Jalapeño Hamachi - the yellowtail sings with jalapeño, not overpowering 2.) Salmon Truffles - who knew ponzu, salmon, and truffle were a match made in heaven? A standout for sure. 3.) Tuna Tataki - three courses in and its apparent Chef Soy has mastered balance. Tuna and orange salsa? Genius 4.) Salmon Ginger - this was the crowd favorite. That avocado sauce can be served by the bucketfuls. I'm noticing Japanese/International fusion flavors that compliment each other so well. 5.) Beef Tataki - we are deep in adventure, the lightly seared edges makes the crudo center shine. The wagyu beef tasted delicate and the daikon was the crunch and acid to keep the dish alive 6.) Spicy Tuna Tartare - your grown up version of "chips" and "salsa" 7.) Seared Walu - a personal favorite, the delicately seared white fish is elevated against a back drop of ponzu. Delicious! 8.) Foie Gras - another crowd favorite, not surprisingly. Goose liver and wagyu beef? Decadence on decadence! 9.) Masamman Shrimp - to further enhance the taste of comfort, garlic shrimp coated in a familiar masamman Curry-Esque sauce. 10.) Ube Ice Cream - the piece de resistance of the evening. Formerly Blue Marlin, with few changes that I can see beyond a slightly updated menu, Mint is already the neighborhood cool spot. There are no similar restaurants in this area, and Mint could easily compete with any hip spots in SLC proper. The interior is quite intimate, with a main dining area and sushi bar, then a smaller alcove off to the side, and some covered patio seating outdoors. Décor is cool and modern, with stylish light fixtures, the walls featuring work by local artists. Servers are all sweet and friendly. A 10 course tasting is offered once monthly, so I held out on visiting until I could attend one. You can reserve via their website or right here on Yelp, and the previous one sold out, so if you are eager to go, don't wait! We arrived right at 7:00, and were immediately served wine and waters. We waited about 15 minutes for the first course, but then they were very quick, and as soon as each plate was scraped clean, the servers would arrive with the next course. We were finished just before 8:30. I appreciated this as I don't generally wish to linger over a meal (and multi-course dinners can be exceptionally long), but it is worth noting if you prefer to take your time. Soy isn't afraid to push diners a little out of their comfort zone. Nothing is crazy, but this was my first time eating both foie gras and beef tartare. I am also extremely intrigued by the jellyfish app on their standard menu! I don't know if the tastings vary (I hope they do so I can return and try more new items!) but this one featured many raw (or verrry lightly seared) seafood and beef dishes. I loved it, but about halfway through it was too much for my less adventurous husband. Rather than overwhelm with details, you can see my photos for each of the plates. Personal favorites were the truffle salmon (so, so tender and succulent, the gingery soy sauce was perfection, and of course one can't help but love truffles!) seared wagyu, and tuna shiso fritter (Stupendous! I don't usually care for cooked tuna as I find it too firm, but this was prepared so skillfully, and the crunchy tempura breading was so crispy, and then I just adored the flavor added by the big ol' shiso leaf. Well done!). I do wish there had been at least one or two vegetable dishes as it was a heavy meal toward the end, but that is my only suggestion, and certainly no complaint. I still enjoyed myself entirely. Plating and presentation is truly impressive here. You can tell a lot of care is put into it, and that beauty just adds to the enjoyment of already delicious food! The 10 course meal was $60 per person - a killer deal as the portions were larger than traditional tastings, and, besides the dessert, consisted entirely of seafood and meat, plus two glasses of wine! Though I have not yet tried Mint's standard menu, prices there are very reasonable, too, especially considering everything is such high quality. This is one of my top 3 restaurants! If you pass by the wagyu steak you are missing out on some of the most flavorful tender beef it is served in a sauce that will make your palette water for days. Came here on a Friday evening for a dinner date with my husband. We found the name here on Yelp, however to our surprise, we've actually dined in here a couple years ago, but the restaurant was under a different name. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised with how delicious all our food came out. We were pleased with the customer service our lovely waitress Nargis has provided. The dine in setting was in compliance with social distancing. Even with the spaced out tables, the restaurant still seemed quite busy. I'm glad they're able to attract customers! We ordered several plates of sushi rolls. However, I'm leaving this 5 stars review especially due to the excellent wagyu plate they served to us! It was buttery tender with an unctuous coating of sesame oil and chimichurri topped with pickled daikon. The pickled daikon was made in house. We will surely be back for this dish! I had an amazing time at Mint! We had to wait for a little bit even with reservations, which is the only thing of the night that could see some improvements. We focused on the tapas (small plates) menu and it was so delightful. Our party of 2 ordered 7 tapas and a dessert, and I think it will be good size for 2 people. Some of my favorite tapas are Walu Ceviche (I like the smoke of the fish), Salmon tataki (very lightly seared, good balance in the sauce and underneath veggies) and Jalapenos hamachi (just amazing vinegrette sauce to accompany this fish). I do notice that some dishes are on the saltier side, like the puree on Chilean Sea bass or the pickles(!?) on the Walu Ceviche. seared Wagyu was actually not as soft as what we imagined it to be, so definitely don't have high standard on this one. This place has become very special to my husband and I, he proposed to me at Chef Soy's sushi bar. The quality and service and teamwork of the chef and host, rivals anything you can get itLas Vegas or Los Angeles. To call this place a sushi place can be a misnomer. It is truly a unique collection of masterpieces from the chef that you can not buy anywhere else. If you'd like the Chef Soy to chose for you, chose the tasting menu, 10 course with wine pairing, but, you will find that you didn't explore the whole menu. I am sort of annoyed at the sneaky reopening of my favorite local small-plates sushi joint. Anyone remember the Blue Marlin that used to be here? When this location originally closed, I had thought it had moved downtown to become the Blue Marlin that is now downtown. I visited that downtown location with a friend and found a completely different menu and left somewhat disappointed. And then I saw this place, highly reviewed on Yelp... we live further north, so I had no idea this was the location of the original Blue Marlin. We were in the area, so showed up... to find the original location and the original menu under a different name!!!!!!! So. This place is great. I have been here a couple times for sushi and it has been fantastic but a couple weeks ago my husband and I and my brother in law and his girlfriend came here for a sushi class. If you love sushi and want a super fun date take this class. I can not recommend it enough. Soy the gentleman who teaches this class is seriously awesome. He really knows how to give you a class that you learn some history of sushi and home to make it but also has you laughing the whole time. He is not just a sushi chef but an entertainer. This class was about an hour and a half at a great price and you get to eat all the sushi you make. I had such a great time I kind of want to go again. This was our first time dining inside a restaurant this year. We wore masks, and so did all of the staff. We chose to eat outside, the weather was perfect. When we arrived there wasn't anyone else eating in the outside area. It quickly filled up - I was surprised that people were seated in the tables directly next to, and behind ours. Didn't quite feel like social distancing. However, I wasn't too bugged because my husband and I have been fully vaccinated. We've been to this restaurant a number of times. It's a great way to try new things, and everything is sharable. Wanna taste jelly fish? It's on the menu!! Here's what we ordered last night: Shrimp/Vegetable Tempura, Salmon Ginger, Grilled Scallops, Gyoza, Chicken Teriyaki, also the Vulcan & Pluto Sushi Rolls. We also asked for fresh wasabi...because, it's a must! The tempura is lightly breaded and fried, served with a nice dipping sauce (similar to soy sauce), but much lighter in flavor & color. The Salmon Ginger was a little boring, I found nothing over the top about the avocado puree that accompanied it. The grilled scallops did not have that nice "sear" that I enjoy, they weren't the large scallops/these were small (and only three of them)...boy were they spicy!! The gyoza (or pot stickers) are pan fried and delicious! The chicken teriyaki, tasted like you would expect. The Vulcan roll is messy, and hard to eat with chopsticks. However, the Pluto roll is crazy delicious, and I highly recommend it. On other occasions we have eaten the Shishito Peppers, which are good, but become a little monotonous. The Jalapeno Poppers & the Sexy Shrimp are also things we've tried - but, not on our "favorite" list. I guess we are used to the more Americanized Jalapeno Poppers. :) I also think they could add a few more beers to their list - specifically an IPA. I was extremely disappointed with this place! Initially I was really excited to have a nice dinner here with my fiancé. Unfortunately we waited over an hour and a half for our food. We got our appetizers "relatively quick" (considering how long we were there) about 30 /45 minutes in. Another hour had gone by and we hadn't gotten our food, not once did our waitress come up and explain anything to us; while we watched the two ONLY other tables (4 people plus, we only had 2) who arrived at least 30 minutes to an hour after us receive their food. By the time we had confronted our waitress about payment, she brought out some of our food, and the full check, half of the food we did not receive. The rolls we had ordered (Vulcan and Apollo) and received at that point were extremely disappointing and just all around not done well. We did not get any explanation when we ended our time short to check out. Honestly I'm not sure if this is regular or not but I would not recommend this restaurant in terms of service nor quality of food. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. read more

I came in on halloween night with a group of friends. The staff was super friendly and dressed up for the occasion. We were seated next to the front door so I wasn't able to get a look around the restaurant at the other seating options. The menu at this place was incredible. All of the appetizers "small plates" were reasonably priced. Our group couldn't resist and we basically ordered half of the small plates section. We also ordered four rolls. The plating of the food was something like I'd expect from a Michelin star restaurant. It was enough for all of us to have a taste but still be satisfied with the portion. Definetly my top meal in SLC and it was so good that we came back twice. Its a shame that this establishment is a bit in the middle of nowhere (or so it seems) because the food is soo good and fresh. We ordered sexy shrimp, coconut shrimp, halo roll, wagyu beef appetizer and a salmon dish for entree. The sexy shrimp was great and reminiscent of a tuna tartare but with shrimp. The coconut shrimp was absolutely delish and covered with this sweet sauce which elevated the jumbo shrimp to the next level. Halo roll had a kick to it and thats exactly what i wanted. The wagyu beef appetizer had thin slices of medium cooked wagyu that melted in your mouth. The meat was not seasoned alot but despite the light seasoning, it was really good. My friend got the salmon dish and i tried it. The salmon came with an accompanying sauce which really complimented the salmon. My friend enjoyed her dish alot. We ended our meal with the chocolate mousse cake which was the star of the meal. The layers were defined and you get to taste each layer which is the genius of this dessert. This place came highly recommended by my son. I was looking for a place I could get a serving of raw jellyfish. (Yes, it was a Bucketlist goal of mine.) Sure enough they had it and a LOT more. My wife and I were not disappointed in the least. Lots of variety on their menu. Presentation is beautiful but portions on some dishes tend to be small. Everything is fresh and flavorful. Last time we did the 10 course tasting in Cottonwood it was extremely busy and as if they were trying to run normal service in addition to the tasting. They managed fine but then only happened to have 3 or 4 of the plates include tuna and have very little differentiation.
