They sold us on getting the whole fish + 2 smaller dishes for 2 people, but then didn't let us know that one of our smaller dishes (the paneer) is essentially a make-your-own-taco situation, just like the fish. So we had one chaat and 2 taco dishes, there was just way too much fish for 2 people, and with a drink each the whole shebang cost $222. Really wanted to love it but left feeling duped. read more

You're doing yourself a disservice if you dine here and don't order the lamb barbacoa biryani. I like lamb and I like biryani but most of the time that I order it, I don't like it because it's too fatty. That will not be the case here -- the lamb and Biryani overall was perfection. Also had the crispy taco, meen moilee, soft shell crab chaat, taco arabe and laksa baked oysters. My fave of those was prob the crispy taco. Nothing was bad - liked the unique flavor unique combos. Ooh and the tres leches was delicious! Enjoyed the Rita too. Cafe con Ron was more spirit forward than I was thinking. Have to commend the great service we had - our server even packed up my half eaten taco (very appreciated since that is an expensive taco) and packed up sauces to go with the biryani - we all know the sauce makes the dish. Everything was good but not spectacular. The lamb biryani was probably the best thing I tried and it was a pretty standard lamb biryani- nothing special. The chicken was very lemony and mediocre. The cauliflower was a little too charred for my taste. The cocktails were also just average. The place is intimate, beautifully decorated and service is pretty good. read more

This place is awesome. The food is so unique and flavorful, the service was thoughtful and personal, and the price point is approachable (especially given the creativity of the food). I felt like even though the place was crowded and music was going, I had zero trouble hearing my dining companion. The fact that it's a small spot means you can have interactions with the chefs (which we did!). We had the aguachiles, scallop tacos, lamb tacos, and lamb biryani. It was a perfect amount of food. This last weeks dinner was one of the incredible meals I've had recently. As soon as I heard about the fusion of Indian and Mexican food I knew i had to visit asap and the expectations delivered! The service here is phenomenal and clearly all the staff knows a tremendous amount about all the food and ingredients because it showed in the way our server talked about and described all the food as it was delivered. Jeremy delivered some of the best service I have had in a long while and recommended wine and beverage pairings throughout the experience. I really don't understand some of these negative reviews because the food and service here is phenomenal. We started off with the crispy taco and Agua chile - two dishes our server recommended- and both of them were screaming with flavor and out of this world. We asked our server to pair a bottle with our upcoming dished (sopes and prawns) and he gave us multiple options to pick from of the red and white selections. I can't remember exactly with one it was but it was from Spain and really really good. The octopus was perfect and the prawns even better. We ended with the Lamb Biryani which was probably the best Biryani I've ever had! The restaurant is beautiful and the lighting and music top notch. I really love this place and hope to get another reservation soon so we can try other things. We arrived at this restaurant at 9:40 PM, well before the posted closing time of 10:30 PM, only to be told that the kitchen stops taking orders at 10 PM--website says they stop seating at 10 PM so technically still had 20 minutes to spare to get seated. The staff's attitude made it clear that we weren't welcome, and the chefs could be seen packing up well before closing, reinforcing the feeling that guests are an afterthought. If the kitchen closes early, it should be clearly communicated to avoid confusion. And regardless of timing, a little courtesy goes a long way. More of a 3.5 but can't give it a 4, as a 4 is something I would come back to and Mirra won't get my business again. Interesting concept, pairing essentially Mexican vessels (tacos, sopes) with Indian flavors. However, a lot of dishes just didn't work, particularly most seafood items. The scallop taco was lacking flavor, very disappointed in this one. Tuna mole wasn't remotely close to a mole and again almost no flavor and the fish had no seasoning at all. The octopus was ok, but that was mainly because the sope had a great texture. The lamb taco was amazing, and finally a good dish. Perfect crunchy lamb almost like a pastor and the taco with melted cheese was out of this world. Lamb biryani was good but not so great for the price to choose it over versions you can get for a delivery at a dozen spots. The ambiance was also a letdown, way too loud to comfortably talk and the tables were way too close to together. I felt like I was at Giant. Lastly, our server was nice but she wore a mask. Mask + loud music + plus an accent made it literally impossible for me to hear what she was saying. read more

I would say extremely meh was my reaction to eating there. It honestly didn't feel like anything was that special. We had: - crispy tacos; I felt that these were strong on flavor, but in the wrong way. They really covered up the scallop flavor with the flavor of the toppings. These were also one-bite tacos, which are gone instantly - meen moilee; it was fine. Again, most of the flavor is coming from the leche de tigre. I thought this was fine, but I'm not sure the avocado or tomato added anything to it other than to say "we put this on there". You get about 3 pieces of fish, but they're rather thick, which is actually the opposite of what I would want, which is more of a japanese style cut. - laksa baked oysters; somehow this was completely devoid of flavor and only had an aftertaste. these were also quite small - taco arabe; this was actually quite good! However, I'm not sure that this is something you need to go to an upscale restaurant to have; I think the main selling point was that it was something substantive to eat. This seemed like a dish you could get at a tacqueria, though. - prawn chaat; this was also pretty good, but also quite spicy IMO. Again, this is one of the more substantive dishes and somewhat fun cause you get to eat with your hands Overall, we got 5 dishes to share, but this is definitely one of those places you go to eat and you leave feeling still hungry. I think for spending about $100, you'd be provided more food than they gave you. Service was okay. It was good overall in that the servers are attentive: they refill your water, take away dishes, and replace your cutlery often. However, it seems like there was a massive miscommunication with the kitchen and we got our first 3 dishes very quickly, while our last two were hugely delayed. Once we received our final dishes, they seemed in a hurry to turn the table over. I can appreciate that they're trying something new, but it's just not worth it in terms of the price you pay for flavor or quantity of food. read more

This was HANDS DOWN one of the most perfect meals I've ever had. We got the aguachile, tacos dorados, mezze plate, pollo rostizado, and ended with the tres leches. Typically at fusion places they have a menu with plates from both cuisines. This place combined the flavors of both so perfectly in every dish. I'm Mexican and my friend is Indian and we kept commenting on how each dish had nostalgic things from our childhood meals. The tres leches cake almost brought me to tears. the room is really lovely, the staff very attentive. the chef is so personable, bringing food to our table, chatting and describing the food we ordered. we wanted to love this restaurant! they get rave reviews! unfortunately we were very disappointed in the food. the dips were an array of indian and mexican. there was no sparkle, no layering of flavors, meh. crispy tacos are fabulous. roasted vegetables were bitter and tough, the sauce clunky and dull. we ordered lamb biriyani. the crust was tough and dry, it was so stuffed with mostly rice there was no room to stir it as suggested by the chef. the entree was somewhat dry, too much rice diluted the very subtle flavors other than heat. not much lamb, shredded to almost nothing. definitely a disappointment. moving on to dessert the tres leches cake sounded really clever but again, fell short of any zing or pop or umami. we will not return. it was so expensive for a really disappointing meal. read more

We came here the other night and were very excited; we'd heard so much about this new space and have been big supporters of Chief Zubair! The food was great and the service was even better! However, we were not blown away by chief Richie's mistreatment of the staff, it was extremely disappointing to see his lack of respect for the them, both the kitchen team and of the servers. It made my partner and I extremely uncomfortable to see how he treated them and as individuals excited to see what Zubair had in store, we were let down by not seeing him around. We truly hope this is worked out, we know it's still a knew space and that their may be issues that arise but we hope this place is still a staple to stay! Overall, Mirra was a wonderful surprise to the 4 of us who ate there. Having read about the restaurant on Eater Chicago, I decided to check it out: Was it really as good as the article suggested? From arrival to departure, Mirra lived up to what I expected as well as with the 3 others who ate there. Though only open for 3 weeks, the service was very smooth and friendly. Our server, as expected, described each dish when served--a nice plus as we were not as familiar with the Indian influence as much as the Mexican one. (Three in the group thought the food leaned more Mexican than Indian.) Our server suggested we start with 4 small plates and end with 2 large plates, which was nice advice--as my cynicism clicked in thinking it was a way to up our bill but realized afterwards his advice was good. Our small plates were Mirra Mezze--all the sauces were wonderful, Meen Moilee--the yellowfin tuna was fresh and tasty in its sauce, Rasul's Roti Quesadillas---very tasty and flavorful (my favorite), Chana's Aguachile--a very good mix of tastes. Our large plates were Crispy Maitake Mushrooms (that I didn't taste except for the braised cabbage, which was delicious) and Pollo Rostizado with Cornish game hen that was tender and flavorful accompanied by some robust sauces.
