    Lamb biryani

Mirra is tough to describe succinctly, but it's one of the most charming food experiences I've ever had and everyone on the staff was amazing. I recently went with a friend, I was of course late, and the host was so lovely in accommodating the delay, then I sheepishly asked if we could sit at a booth, which she immediately moved us to. The waiter came over and my friend asked "ohh can you just have the chef put together whatever dishes he/she prefers?" it was the waiter's first day, and his eyes lit up at the request. from there it was a 1.5 hr nonstop prix fixe menu of the most interesting flavors I've ever had. Highlights: 1) Chaas Aguachile, life changing 2) Tacos arabe - I'm a weirdo and dont love cheese, but they made a custom taco and my friend loved the cheesy crust on the tortilla, such bright & fresh flavors 3) Lamb biryani - we were beyond full at this point, but the presentation and aromas from this dish are worth it alone (even if I took it home as leftovers) Can't recommend this spot enough, 5/5, cheers!

Vada pav breakfast sandwich and lime aqua fresca

I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews, concept, and the menu! The place is on the smaller side but nicely decorated and sitting at the bar means you get really intimate with everyone prepping the food. Our server was kind and really helpful walking us through the menu, and he confirmed the meat was halal as well. Like someone else mentioned, the food did come out scarily fast, although i guess all they did was put components together. I got the agua fresca and while it was cute and good, i was a little surprised to have it served in a small glass. But it was on the N/A drinks section so maybe that's why and it's not a big deal. It was forgettable tho, i actually kept forgetting i still had the drink lol. Maybe pop another lime in there or something? I also like that water was being filled from what looked like spring water bottles although it tasted like tap and i would have preferred ice water, but we were never offered any. It was hard picking what to get but i went with the vada pav breakfast sandwich. It was definitely filling enough. The vada pav in it was delicious and so was the beef wagyu bacon and the potato croquettes but unfortunately the rest of the ingredients didn't really fit? Especially the fried eggs which is all i could smell when eating and it wasn't very nice. An egg patty might have worked better with crispier bacon and a stronger layer of cheese. Fusion innovative food is hard to nail with the flavors and unfortunately this missed the mark. I was confused to see chili oil and would have much rather preferred the potatoes on the side instead of the random lettuce and dressing which is neither indian nor mexican (nor did it make sense with the sandwich flavor wise). Personally the food didn't hit for me but hopefully they can improve!

I took myself on a solo date here on a Saturday evening. I made a reservation about a week in advance. I appreciate that they seated me at a table instead of the bar, which is common with dining alone. I got the Crispy tacos, tacos arabe, and roasted beets, as they are more tapas style. All were delish. I came pretty hungry and left stuffed. I also got the marg 5. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. Server was really friendly and it was a nice ambiance. Great spot for a date or nice dinner to celebrate something.

Food: Ever since moving to Chicago from NYC I've been looking for unique restaurants and Mirra might've been the first to really meet all my expectations. All the food was so good, flavorful, and unique. The only critique I have is that the biryani was pretty salty for me but I tend to be more sensitive to that. Service: Amazing! I went for my birthday and everyone was so kind. They gave me a birthday donut but the tres leches on the dessert menu cannot be skipped! Ambiance: Overall good!

Customer service here is awesome. I had made reservations for dinner after a Cubs game. Of course, there's a rain delay so I had to cancel and was advised that my credit card would be charged $30/person for the less than 24 hours notice. I asked if they could move my reservation an hour later and they nicely did that. It was especially nice since it was prime dinner time. The food is a unique blend of flavors that meld well. We really enjoyed the crispy tacos and roasted beet salad. It was very refreshing. While the sopes were good, they were just a little too spicy for us. The lamb biryani was presented beautifully with a golden crust and was delicious, especially with the yoghurt-based sauce. The restaurant is small and the tables are fairly close together, but it works with the bar available as well. It's a lively place.

Came for an early dinner--glad I made reservations because the restaurant filled very quickly! Music is a little loud and so sometimes it was hard to hear the staff when they were describing dishes, but the space isn't cramped or overfull. Service was attentive and helpful without being obtrusive and my water glass was always full. The crispy scallop tacos? Easily one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. I could not have imagined steak tartare on papadum, but the contrast was delicious. And the tacos arabe with lamb were a textural delight. Everything was spiced and flavored and balanced to perfection. Due note, portion sizes are small, tapas-size--except for dessert, which could have easily treated three! Very pleased, and will come back with a bigger group to try the biryani!

If you don't take risks and experiment, you'll never create amazing things. Mirra is proof of that. I went for the tasting menu because I figured it was the best way to experience as much of the menu as possible as a solo diner. That turned out to be the right call. One thing to note: this is a cocktail tasting, not just a food tasting. If you're a lightweight, proceed with caution because the drinks are very much part of the experience. What I absolutely loved was the concept. Each cocktail was paired with a bite, but they also served a small taste of the spirit featured in the cocktail. You get to understand what the spirit tastes like on its own and then see how it's transformed and layered into the finished drink. It's such a smart, educational, and genuinely fun approach. The evening started with the Aperitivo and the Chaas Aguachile Pani Puri. Using pani puri with fish is either blasphemous or genius, and honestly, I still haven't decided which. Taste-wise, though, I can't fault it. The dish was light, bright, and beautifully balanced, setting the tone for the rest of the meal. Next came the Bamboo pairing with the Beet Tostada. The beet preparation was fantastic, and the tostada itself had that perfect crisp texture. Every element worked together--the muhammara, goat cheese, and salsa macha all had their moment without overpowering one another. The Margarita pairing featured the Scallop Khavsa, and this was probably my favorite dish of the night. The flavors absolutely exploded. The scallop was perfectly cooked, and every component seemed to elevate the next. If I had to pick one standout bite from the entire experience, this would be it. The Martini with the Tacos Árabe was another great example of Mirra's creativity. The lamb was tender and packed with flavor, while the achars and accompaniments kept everything interesting. Nothing felt like it was there by accident. Then came the Old Fashioned with the Lamb Barbacoa Biryani. I'll admit I'm a bit biased here--I have a very specific love for Lucknow-style dum biryani, and everything else tends to play second fiddle in my mind. That said, the flavors were spot on. The barbacoa was generous, the presentation was spectacular, and the achar and raita were both excellent. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully every element was presented and how intentionally everything worked together. Dessert arrived with the Art of Choke cocktail and the Rasmalai Tres Leches. This was rich, indulgent, and deeply satisfying. Saffron and cardamom are a combination that's hard to mess up, but they still managed to make it feel special rather than predictable. The mango mousse and infused milks brought everything together beautifully and ended the meal on a high note. As for the cocktails themselves, they weren't just good pairings--they stood on their own. Each drink felt deliberate, layered, and distinct from the others. Rather than simply matching flavors, they created conversations between the food and the cocktails, with the spirit tastings adding an extra dimension that made the experience memorable. Kudos to everyone involved--the chef, the bar team, the servers, and whoever designed the space. The interiors are gorgeous, the service was warm and knowledgeable, and the entire concept feels incredibly well thought out. Mirra takes risks, and in this case, those risks pay off in a big way.

Sometimes, places discovered by a happy accident are the best! I'd journeyed to Le Bouchon across the street, only to discover they were closed for a private event! Looking around, I immediately saw Mirra, and decided to give it a shot. If you take nothing else from the review, let it be this: Mirra has fusion done right! It is easy to do a fusion restaurant to sell two disparate cuisines, for fear that real fusion will cause "all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light". I once visited a Mexican-Japanese fusion restaurant that had Mexican Tacos and Japanese Sushi, rather than Mexican Sushi and Japanese Tacos! Mirra is the kind of spot that makes me wish Yelp had a sixth star, for places that are all around exceptional are rare, and Mirra is one of them. Now, I like to at least pretend I know the difference between issues with technical execution and matters of personal taste. The only critiques I can levy are due to personal taste alone. Don't get me wrong, these are numerous, but "I don't like mango" (for e.g.) is not a valid reason to dock any points. I had the pleasure of eating: Chaas Aguachile, Fideo Seco, Scallop Khavsa, and the Rasmali Tres Leches. I also had the pleasure of drinking: "oof," Marg No. 6, and a Caffo Amaretto digestif. We start at the Chaas Aguachile: There is an immediate hit of bright acid notes, one that quickly fades into a savory experience. The fish is of exceptional quality, and the accents make the experience even better such as the nopales adding vegetal notes, and the fried bits (onion?) adding just enough crispness. Next comes the Fideo Seco: I can hardly complain about this being a meatless, pasta-centric dish, it is so by design. If I put my carnivorous nature aside, the dish was still superbly executed. The pasta was cooked well, the sauce was rich and flavorful, and the green added abundant earthy notes. Again, some bonus points for the accents of cheese and fried pepper(?) bits. The star of the night was the Scallop Khavsa. This dish took me back to a divine scallop dish I had at Montreal's Cadet. Scallops were of top-tier quality, the sauce was rich and flavorful enough to be eaten like soup (no surprise, since Khavsa is soup!) Peppers added some heat without going overboard, squid chicharron for some crispness, and veggies addedbrightness. Just enough heat, just enough sweet, all the savory, all the texture, 11/10, no notes. For dessert, I ordered the Rasmali Tres Leches. A rock solid dessert with a soft, moist cake which is great for lovers of mango, which unfortunately, I am not. In my opinion, the mango (or perhaps my lack of love of it), overpowered more subtle things going on, like an olive oil cake or saffron-cardamom milks. Also, while a fine dessert to share, I felt the portion was too large for one person. Now, we arrive at the drinks: The "oof" was a delightful take on an Indo-Mexican old fashioned, the Marg #6 a creative version of a margarita that didn't go overboard on the strawberries. Both, especially the OOF were strong and boozy, had savory notes, and just the right amount of sweet. Finally, the Caffo Amaretto was just that, a higher quality amaretto. An area where Mirra shines is the service. The servers work superbly as a team, and service was very friendly, attentive, and fast, especially given that the restaurant was very busy at the time. I especially want to recognize my bartender, O'Neil. One little note on service: when food is brought out, the waiter offers a quick explanation of what it is and what goes into it. However, given the speed and volume at which this is spoken in an already loud environment, it can be very hard to understand. This led to me completely missing the tortilla brought with one of the dishes. Being wrapped in napkins and set aside, I dismissed these as extra napkins rather than tasty and homemade looking tortillas! Oops. Final verdict: While it's not incorrect to say I personally did not love all the dishes at Mirra, this is due to matters of taste. I don't adore nopales, mangoes, or green pastas. However, I do adore the care, creativity, and quality that shines through in every dish, drink, and server interaction. Everything was top-notch, so much so I made a reservation to return two weeks later before I even paid my bill.

Mirra did not disappoint. We have been here for a tasting menu before (good but not the best) and this time we came in for regular dining. Drinks were on point and really bring the fusion of flavors. Every item we tried on the menu was really good. Fish of the day in tandoori marinade and prawn chaat were my personal favorites and everything I tried was delicious. Staff is wonderful and ambiance is a great for a fun dinner night. Their dessert menu is underwhelming for my taste and Margie's is always close for me :)

Brunch is delicious! I've been a few times and had the uttapam, French toast, lamb Kati roll, and huevos rancheros. They are all delicious and the mocktails are very flavorful. The fenugreek rotis are also super good.

We stopped in for brunch immediately after they opened; we didn't have a reservation, so we were seated at the bar. Our server took the time to walk us through the entire menu and explain all of the vegetarian options, which was much appreciated. I think having vegetarian items or modifications clearly marked on the menu already would be helpful. I ended up ordering the Dal Enfrijoladas ($22), and my husband had the Uttappham ($24). He enjoyed everything, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Everything was a bit pricey and somewhat lacking in flavor. My favorite part was the Ras Malai Tres Leches cake ($14). This restaurant also adds an additional 3% fee for "Small Business Health Insurance".

The food here is outstanding! The flavors and layers of Mexican and Indian spices are so well incorporated and I've never experienced something like it. So much so that i keep coming back! Being gluten free this restaurant does have ample choices on their menu but since some things may be seasonal be sure to tell the waiter and they'll brief you on what's good. My favorites have been the roasted beets, prawn chaat, lamb biryani (I eat it without the roti topping), and the seasonal fish. Mocktails are also amazing here and well crafted not just juice. I haven't tried the tasting menu yet but I look forward to the experience some time soon!

I was excited to finally get a chance to try Mirra and came by with a couple of friends for dinner. I started with the Mezcal Negroni which was tasty. I enjoyed the mezcal mango combo and it was a fairly light and refreshing drink. For food we shared the Roasted Winter Squash Chaat, Crispy Taco, Lamb Barbacoa Biryani with a Roti Seal, and Duck Carnitas. The crispy taco and duck carnitas were my favorite of the night. The crispy tacos reminded me of the seafood / ceviche tacos I've had in Mexico City and the scallops were really fresh. We added on a taco as it's 2 per order typically. The duck carnitas were great as well with pressed duck legs served with a green tomatillo sauce and tortillas. The carnitas shredded easily and I liked how crispy the outside edges were. The toasted winter squash was pretty good as well but the lamb biryani was a letdown. As one of their signature dishes, the roti seal was fun but didn't add any flavor and was pretty dry to eat. The biryani itself was bland and lamb a bit dry. There are so many great spots for biryani and this one was just ok. Unfortunately overall the food didn't really interest me. I've had better Mexican and Indian food elsewhere and the promise of fusion dishes ended up to be a letdown.

They give you a complimentary spicy trail mix. We started with the guacamole, it was okay. Then I got a traditional margarita, my partner got a pina colada with strawberries, and my kid got a pink lemonade (Marz Brewing made). The margarita was good, not strong but not too watery. For dinner I got the chicken fajitas, the waiter asked if I wanted just chicken which I though was odd because I ordered the chicken fajitas and I wasn't sure what he meant or if he meant no veggies, it came with veggies luckily. It also came with tortilla, corn, and a side of refried black beans with cojita, and rice. It was all okay. My partner got the lamb mole, it was sweet and savory, not spicy. And it came with tortillas. They have a lot of mole options, so if you're into that definitely come here to try! Overall it was just okay.
