Miss Lucy's is a great place to visit the wildlife of St John, while happily nibbling some treats. Chickens roam freely, and goats are quite likely to meander by your table and maybe steal a bite of your fries. We also had a very friendly little lizard who decided to take a nap on our shoulders. The view is spectacular. The tables are positioned right next to the water, literally a stone's throw away from the ocean. The bay is pristine, with crystal clear blue waters nestled among the beautiful mountains. The breeze is light and the sun is warm. This place is the epitome of an afternoon in paradise. My hunt for the perfect "Painkiller" continues. The traditional drink served here at Miss Lucy's is STRONG, so beware. I usually like a strong drink, but the one I had here was so strong it was not very palatable. I will give it a three. read more

Get the Johnny Cakes. They really can't be beat. The view is amazing and the outdoor seating overlooks the rocky coast and pristine water of Coral Bay. This is a great spot for lunch, I'd recommend it. There's also a few goats that live at Lucy's which you can see next to the parking lot. Check out Salt Pond Bay while you're out there. It's a bit of a hike but there'sa hike that goes first to the Salt Pond then to Drunk Bay, a rough and rocky coastline with tons of seaweed. read more

Stopped here by chance just seeing it as we drove by. They were busy on a Saturday afternoon, and after we got a table it took a while to get waited on, but the food was worth the wait. My wife had a delicious big fat 1/2 lb. burger which she shared with me (a couple of bites is all she'd let me have), and it was excellent! I had the chicken strips with boom sauce and fries, and they were alright, but not anything special. We're not drinkers, but the tropical drinks they were bring out to other people almost made us want to be! It was hot and they looked icy and refreshing. We were just glad to find a place to eat with all the Covid shutdowns. The atmosphere was good, and the view right on the water was very nice. read more

We stumbled on this gem of the Island before lunch. They open at noon. This is a must stop for everyone, especially honeymooners.

For a place where tourism is the livelihood of the locals, this restaurant and its service was extremely sub par. For one the food was mediocre for a high price, compared to other restaurants on St. John which may be expensive but worth the price. Secondly, our waitress was condescending, lazy, and not worth the automatic gratuity. She spoke to customers with a condescending tone and made smart alec remarks to a member of our lunch party. This waitress served all food and drinks at the end of the table and didn't bother to pass them around to us so we ended up having to scramble to get plates to every person. While we cannot say if this waitress reflects the attitude of the rest of the staff, our dining experience here was notably lacking in service and quality. read more

We were on St John for nine days and hit Miss Lucy's, twice. That alone should tell you something. We had journeyed all over the island hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. Everywhere we went, I saw paper signs on the telephone poles: Miss Lucy's Fish Fry, Miss Lucy's Fish Fry, Miss Lucy's Fish Fry....We're coming back from Saltpond Bay and there it is. Salty suits, cool breezes, and blue water....plus chickens, goats, and iguana. So, time to order, I guana fish fry. I order the West Indian Fish Fry...duh....so, like Randy Newman sang: "From the South Bay to the Valley From the West Side to the East Side Everybody's very happy 'Cause the sun is shining all the time Looks like another perfect day" In other words, I liked it. My bro-in-law and his wife got some kind of reuben fish sandwich. The grouper on my plate was ample and delicious, with plantains, veggies, rice and beans....all excellent. My dining companions wished they'd paid more attention to the signs. That was rectified on our second visit after doing the Reef Bay Trail...."Everybody's very happy" Don't usually like to biff during the daytime, but had to have a painkiller before leaving SJ.....got mine there. Prepare to be bamboozled. The hours online and on there sign outside are incorrect. They were still serving drinks so we figured why not enjoy the view?We asked for the less expensive water (because we didn't want the plastic water bottle, the other option was in a cup) and the women behind the bar rolled her eyes, dipped her hip and with no words denied us... then over charged us. I mentioned the total and she just said the incorrect price again. How could you be that salty working with this beautiful view? Not worth it...go somewhere where the people aren't bitter. read more

Delicious authentic Caribbean food perfect after a day of hiking or snorkeling. Definitely the best restaurant on the island as most of them pander largely to White Americans with boring hot dogs and burgers. Before I say anything, I want to note that the 5-star review excludes service. I'll get to that in a second, but if you want something quick, head elsewhere. It's wise to call ahead and get a reservation to eat here. It's not that crowded, but the kitchen is tiny and the waitstaff is too. Seating is right on the water. Literally. There''s also goats and cats that wander up as you're eating. It's pretty weird, but hey it's great. The bar is pretty quick, which is a godsend. Our food took nearly 90 minutes to come out. The appetizers took around 60, but it was all okay. We had nowhere else to be and the evening was wonderful. There was only one waitress and the moment we sat down she told us that it would be a while, as is always the case. There's only about 10 tables, but they can only make food so fast I guess. Pretty much every place in the Caribbean makes conch fritters, but I've never had any that were better than the ones served here. Same with the Johnny Cakes. Our group of 6 got a variety of options, and having tried all of them, none were bad at all. In fact, they all were about 5 stars. The paella is probably the best on the menu. If you want a whole evening to relax right by the water and enjoy an amazing meal, this is probably the best place on the island. read more

It doesn't get any better than this! Went for Sunday jazz brunch and fell into a blissful trance. Make no mistake, this is not a fancy place. It's simple and welcoming and they do what they do incredibly well. That's why they get 5 stars. Great food, great drinks and the most beautiful view you could ever want. Everything is cooked to order and, as a result, it takes a little time to get your order out. That time is actually a gift because it allows you to soak in the natural beauty (and, in my case, some of the higher proof beauty as well!) and relax. Perfect day. read more

We went here for lunch today at one in the afternoon. We heard good things about their grouper Reuben. We both ordered the reuben and set in to waiting. About an hour and a half later (minimum one hour), our sandwiches arrived. So why still four stars? Well, the grouper Reubens were phenomenal, and worth an hour and a half wait. The waitresses were friendly. And most of all, the view was fantastic. I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen. Hopefully they solve the problem. Either way, you should definitely go here! The BEST food on all of St John! The Food quality felt like I was eating at a top notch restaurant in Boston, except you sitting right at the oceans edge, overlooking beautiful Coral Bay! We had an unbelievable mahi mahi and paiaya dinner that night. Will always go back everytime I go back to St. John! Miss Lucy's is an institutional fixture on St. John that every visitor must put on their Sunday agenda. Incomparable location. We had live music that was not overwhelming. Get a drink.. in fact get two or three up front while you wait for a seat. We got there early and had a table right away but saw many waiting, and leaving due to the limited seating and lack of fast food. My husband and I have been going to miss Lucy's for years when we visit St. John. It's always something we look forward to with great anticipation. Not anymore. First of all, they no longer have Sunday Brunch; ok...lets try dinner. We went on a Thursday Open Mike night, ( fun, right?) only to find that the locals had scooped all the tables and were sitting there nursing drinks and waiting to perform, while dozens of people who were actually waiting to sit and eat dinner were left to stand in line until someone starts barking at you about what you want. There was no clearly posted menu, and the staff were surly and rude. Clearly, there is either new (poor) management or they simply cannot get enough help. The menu was gross. Chicken fingers and fries, etc. Obviously their staffing issues extend to the kitchen. We had one drink and left. All in all, this was a bitter disappointment after having so many years of wonderful experiences there. So sad. read more

Wow. This is great food. I rarely give five stars. We came twice. It was that good. In a four day trip we just had to come back. Why? Conch fritters in a perfect dipping sauce. Fried plantains that were sweet and melt in your mouth. The rice dish (a Paella I think) was the real star of the show. The drinks were good too. Miss Lucy's is one of our favorite lunch spots on St. John: it's right on the water at Friis Bay, with spectacular views to the East End and on to Tortola in the distance. Lunch here is outside under a big old Seagrape tree with a cool island breeze and water breaking on the beach a few feet away. What a spot! Start off your lunch here with one of the well-made (strong!) island cocktails and enjoy the breeze and view while you wait for your lunch. Miss Lucy passed a few years back, but her family still runs the restaurant and the menu still offers some of the traditional island foods, such as fungi, rotis, johnnycakes, and sweet potato stuffing. Service is very friendly here and there always seems to be a very relaxed, convivial vibe among diners. Our favorite menu item here HANDS DOWN is the Grouper Reuben, a delicious take on the famous deli sandwich that uses fried Grouper in place of corned beef, with the standard coleslaw, swiss cheese, grilled rye bread, etc. The fish is cooked perfectly, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, and It's absolutely delicious. Along with the excellent accompanying hand-cut fries and ice cold Presidente beers, this sandwich alone is worth the drive from Cruz Bay over Centerline Road to 'the other side of the island.' The food, friendly service, and "old Caribbean" charm of chickens, goats, and kitties on the property---along with the views, of course--make this a top spot to grab some good food and drink on St. John. read more

The setting is fabulous, right on the water in a beautiful cove, under trees with twinkly white lights. We went twice during our visit. First visit was for Full Moon party, great vibe, wonderful drinks, packed place, great music. The menu at Full Moon parties is very limited and seeing the plates coming out didn't tempt us at all. We returned for a proper dinner a few days later and it was spectacular. Fresh, fresh, fresh seafood, elegantly prepared, beautifully balanced flavors and seasonings,with thoughtfully designed side dishes. Our non-fish eater had the Kobe beef burger and fries and said each was the best rendition of the dish he'd ever had. I think he'd go back daily if he could. Miss Lucy's son Eddie is often on the premises, and he and Guy, the other owner, are keeping Miss Lucy's reputation for excellence intact. read more

A great jem in the coral bay area away from the hustle and bustle of cruz bay. This place was recommended to us by some locals, who swear it's one of the best spots on the island. After such a sincere recommendation, of course my family and I ended up going. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the location is really lovely. It's right on the water with lots of outdoor seating. Unfortunately the day we went the wind was blowing like no other so we had to seat inside. The indoor seating is still open to the outdoors, so you still feel like you are outside. Miss Lucy's was understaffed the day we were there. There was just one waiter however we were still greeted warmly and attentively by him. We were served drinks by a very sweet elderly gentleman working the bar. After reviewing the menu, which had ample choices and variety, we placed our order. Due to the fact that it was understaffed, we did have to wait quite a long time to be served, which was less than ideal. However we were offered a round of free drinks to make up for our long wait. Once the food arrived we were all very satisfied. We started with a conch fritter appetizer. A little on the salty side, so I wasn't really a fan. For entrees, I ordered a kallaloo, which is a okra and spinach soup with lump crab, and a side of fufu, which is a mash of potatoes and plantains, and a side of rice and peas. My family ordered Fish fry, coconut grouper, and pasta w/ clams in a white wine butter sauce. They were all delicious but hands down the coconut grouper was the star of the night. As the menu says it is a pan roasted grouper, crispy okra fungi and coconut curry broth. It was rich yet nicely balanced by the white fish. I would definitely get that if I were to go back. And to top it all of we split a slice of decadent flour less chocolate torte. It was as lovely a place and was indeed one of the best meals we had on St. John's. read more

We stopped in for dinner while we were there on vacation and had a great time. The restaurant sits right on the water and the soothing sounds of small waves on the beach drifted thru the evening. We were seated outside under an enourmous tree where goats wandered around and stole your dinner if you were not careful. The food was very good although the paella was a bit dry and the callaloo was a bit cool for soup. The fish my wife had was amazing as well as her salad. The server did a great job even though she was the only one on and had way more tables than you would expect. All in all one of the better places to stop in for dinner while vacationing on St. John. We have been to St. John a few times before but somehow this little gem escaped us until our most recent visit. We went here after a hot midday hike to rams head and we were all very hot, thirsty, and hungry. We saw this place along the side of the road and thought we would give it a try. At first, it looks a little like a beach dive like Skinny Legs but we took a table outside under what I think was a mangrove tree with a beautiful view of the bay. It's amazing how it felt so cool and refreshing after just feeling so hot just a mile down the road at rams head. We ordered a round of various rum drinks and everyone was very happy with their choice. I had a rum punch and a piña colada and they were both excellent, made from real fruit juice, not some bar mix. I would say service was a bit slow by mainland standards but with the view and the drinks we didn't notice much. The kids played with the cats, chickens, lizards, and goats that came around. Everyone was having a great time. When the food finally did come everything was fantastic. I got the West Indies fish fry and my only complaint is I wish there was more of it. The fish was cooked perfectly, very lightly breaded just as the menu says. My wife had the vegetarian roti which she loved and our friends were happy with their burger and Mahi sandwich. We also got the conch fritters and fried plantains and they were the best we had on the island. After a 2 hr lunch, we packed up and took a picture of us all with the bay in the background...an experience we will all remember. We have been here two weeks now and this is my favorite place so far. I really like skinny legs too but when I'm on the east side of the island, I will seek out this place first from now on. We traveled to St John before and for different reasons we didn't get to eat at Miss Lucy's. Today we made it there for dinner with the family. After being told to go sanitize our hands before sitting at the table, I wasn't very optimistic. The view is good but it was so windy that the coronavirus mandated paper plates blew all over the place. The waitress took 15 minutes to get our drink order and when she walked up, she asked us if we just came in and sat down. I had to tell her that she in fact seated us. Now keep in mind there were only five or six tables with customers, so not too hard to keep up with. So after ordering our drinks and food order, we patiently waited. Our food came and yet no drinks. The water never came and neither did mine and my wife's drink from the bar. We couldn't find out waitress so we had to flag down a bar helper/bus boy. He said he would take care of it. My step son finished his entire meal before any drink came. The waitress apologized when she finally arrived with the drinks. Our two bar drinks had absolutely no alcoholic in them. I didn't complain, I just wanted to leave really. The conch fritters were $16.00 and I was surprised when she brought it that it was only 5 fritters. Wait what?!!! The red snapper dish we all ordered was pretty good but the sweet sauce they put all over the fish and shrimp was gross. Finally after all that, the check came. At $270 for two adults and three teenagers, that is highway robbery! They even added in a $46.00 tip. There is no excuse for a bill this high in Coral Bay which we love. Save your money and eat somewhere else. Oh and if you're a snobby social elite, this is the place for you. Everybody seems to enjoy staring. I think my Jeep spun gravel as we tore out of the parking lot. read more

No better place to go for Sunday brunch. The food is great and well priced. The drinks are similarly generous and tasty. The live music on the beach seals the experience. The only issue is service. Miss Lucy's gets crowded quickly. The wait staff is efficient but not overly friendly. And they warn, after being seated, it can take up to 2 hours to get your food. Hey, if you have to wait, it is hard to find a nicer location. BTW, Miss Lucy's is well off the beaten path. So include that in your plans to get to this worthwhile restaurant. Addendum... during our second visit, the power went out. Luckily, we had ordered and our food arrived. But they shut down the restaurant to others. read more

this little local eatery is an iconic part of st. john culture, and the food backs it up. they don't serve a large assortment of items, however what they make they excel in. i had the crunchy grouper sandwich and was surprised by the rich flavour of the fish and the remoulade sauce. there was also a fish stir fry special the day i visited, which was amazing. as with pretty much every restaurant and store in st. john, the items were a little pricey, but honestly the food and the ambience were well worth the price. while we ate, we saw wild iguanas outside the open air seating area and the owner's goats came by shortly later. our server and bartender mark was very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the history of miss lucy's and the coral bay area. the original miss lucy unfortunately passed away in 2007, however the restaurant is still family owned and operated and the love for cooking is very much still evident in the food. one thing i will recommend is that you look at the facebook page of the restaurant to confirm it is open, since hours can be a bit sporadic, and also to come with an open mind that this is a very casual eatery with spectacular local food. read more
