Decided to go because I haven't gone to this location since they opened. I swore there was one in Wheaton further from the mall, but that was years ago, and I guess they moved locations. Anyways, plenty of parking and seating, same complex as the mall, but not in the mall. There is a bar area. Wash area for just your hands obviously, and TVs too. Very good flavor! Chose our own boil and they just threw everything inside one big bag. I didn't like how they didn't change out our trash pale thing, but we were almost done. The real highlight here is the crab. The hush puppies and crabs are enough to make this a must visit. When I tell you they're meaty, they're MEATY. We tried the special with 2 snow crab clusters and added black mussels during HH, along with an order of hush puppies, raw oysters, and mochi. I love affordable and the crabs are worth every bite! The Cajun sauce with a side of Lemon Pepper will not disappoint, and Shayla was generous with the extra butter :) This was my 3rd time here and the last two consisted of seafood boils with crab/shrimp/mussels. It was always delicious but could use a few tweaks. I'm a shrimp girl and the last time they were a bit overcooked. There's nothing like the perfect bite when it comes to shrimp, and unfortunately it didn't have that. Flavor was 10/10. The raw oysters were a bit fishy and the strawberry mochi had a crumbly texture. We didn't mention the oysters to Shayla but she did bring us another vanilla mochi. The calamari is EXCELLENT and I like the mussels. These are minor tweaks, otherwise everything would've been perfect. Now, I will share my BBT (Big Back Tip). Take one of those little hush puppies and dip it into their vanilla ice cream. In fact, you could split both the mochi and hush puppy in 1/2. Eat it together. Tell me it isn't f*cking delicious. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before even being able to place our order while she attended to several other tables around us before coming to ours. When we politely asked for a cup of water, she seemed frustrated and even asked if we were "playing with her," which felt unnecessary and unprofessional. Later, we mentioned that one of the drinks tasted watered down and asked if it could be changed. Instead of handling the request in a friendly or helpful way, she appeared annoyed, which made the situation uncomfortable. Because of the interaction, we asked to speak with a supervisor. Jackie came over and was very apologetic, which we appreciated. However, by that point the experience had already left such a negative impression that we no longer had an appetite and decided it would be best for us to leave. Never in my life have I sent a dish back to the kitchen, but after my husband and I both spit out our raw oysters back onto the shell, we knew we were in for an "experience." We considered canceling our entire order at that point, but it was too late, as our food arrived at the table quickly. Hook & Reel has a wide variety of items that you can order to customize your seafood boil. Although I seafood is the main reason for my visits to Hook & Reel, I wish the restaurant has more veggie options on the menu (for a balanced meal). My friend loves their Small/Large Catch of seafood so I decided to try it! Crab boil restaurants are all over the place now, I'm assuming for a certain generation that's not used to the Maryland way of life from years ago. I'm unsure of the waiter's name but she took a very long time to check in after initially getting our food. They impolitely denied me a refill after stating the policy was free refills.
