This place is great! The restaurant was clean and inviting. Their decor is Military, Police and Firefighters. There is a wide variety of first responder patches on the walls. There are football uniforms and helmets from the military match ups.( i.e. Army/Navy games). The food was excellent. I had the smoked ribeye steak. It was cooked to perfection The young lady that took my order was very friendly. And, because it was my first time dining there, she was very helpful. I wish we had a Mission BBQ in Reno, Nevada!

Wow is all I can say! I've tried a lot of bbq joints and this one stands out the most! I love all of the military memorabilia scattered all throughout the restaurant. They also offer a veterans club that veterans can join to receive perks! I can't wait to get my free pulled pork sandwich for signing up! The Turkey and pork were both so tender and moist. The Alabama white sauce tasted FANTASTIC on the smoked Turkey. They also have an assortment of sauces and a North Carolina vinegar you can choose to use. My favorite sauces were the honey heat and Smokey mountain. I'm not a big cobbler guy... honestly have never found one I enjoyed until today. The blueberry cobbler was to die for! Great baked beans as well! I'm not huge into chain restaurants, but I think this might be the "Chick Fil A" of bbq! Keep it up!

Great lunch stop on our school field trip to Washington D.C. We enjoyed the smoked cheese burger, fries, and pulled pork sandwich At the top of the hour the National Anthem came on and the entire restaurant stood up to sing and honor our country A beautiful tribute to see. The customer service was amazing- food samples and fresh cut flowers in the restroom to boot! I'll gladly support a business like Mission BBQ any day.

Holy wow! Not only does Mission BBQ support a great cause, it is DELICIOUS! The Baby Back Ribs are to die for! The Mac & Cheese is also absolutely delicious, the perfect Mac! The fries have a great flavor and are extra crispy. Pulled chicken sandwich is savory and delicious! I love the Texas Twang BBQ sauce as well! Cant wait to come back over and over!

Had the occasion to be down at VT again in as many weeks and after coming off the awesome bbq meal at Mission from last time (frankly, the thought of those mouth watering ribs was still hanging in my brain), I could not NOT go back for more. This time, I was short on time, had to get back on the road AND was trying to beat the dinner crowd on Parent's Weekend! So I placed a to go order by phone around 630PM on a Saturday (!!) and I was able to jump the line when I got there by USING THE SIDE ENTRANCE FOR PICK UP ORDERS (instead of going through the main front entrance and you won't have to wait in that line (if there is one)!). There's a separate manned counter just for pick-ups. The service was super quick and easy, once again every single worker bar none was friendly, responsive and accommodating. Ask for your side bbq sauces when you pick up your order (I overheard that you can purchase sauces separately! Good to know - I LOVE the spicy, honey one called TUPELO HONEY HEAT. OMG so good!). Took the bag of food back to the hotel and opened up the box of yummy goodness. This time, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of crispy/well done fries (in Mission BBQ-speak, it's "Fries Down"). I also ordered TWO of their CARROT CAKE seasonal desserts which I didn't get to try last time I was here because they had sold out of them. Turns out I learned they are switching out their seasonal dessert and that was the last day for carrot cake sad face! Next up: PEACH COBBLER which, no lie, actually sounds just as good and something I will HAVE TO try. YES to ANY fruit or berry cobbler!! Back to the carrot cake - soooooo good! Flavorful, moist, and the generous dollop of cream cheese frosting - not too sweet, just right - was a perfect accompaniment with each cake-bite. Check out my pics of my to-go order. The pulled pork was piled soooooooo high. GENEROUS PORTIONS OF EVERYTHING - no skimping here. Just some really delicious, flavorful down home BBQ, fast efficient service in a super clean, well maintained atmosphere and environment. Say no more!

Bulls & Bones: Burgers, BBQ & Brewpub has a lot of "B" alliteration going on. I felt like a steak when I visited, so I went for it. I got the USDA Angus Sirloin, which comes with two sides (I chose steamed broccoli and fries). The steak and sides were good and simple, which was just what I was feeling like that night. I visited Bull & Bones with a group of people, and we ordered a few appetizers to share, so I got to taste some things on the menu. First of all, we got complimentary potato chips for the table. Sweet! We also ordered the fried pickles (not my thing, but people were going off on them). Also, we got two orders of the wings: one was boneless wings with buffalo sauce, and the other was regular bone-in wings with Caroline Gold sauce. My favorite were the wings with Carolina Gold sauce, because of the flavor. They were so savory and slightly sweet. For dessert, we got the warm cookie with two scoops of ice cream (yum!) and the blueberry lemon cake, which didn't look like much but tasted amazing. A little bit of dessert goes a long way, and I think you could get away with sharing a dessert, for sure. The ambiance at Bulls & Bones is casual. It's a sit-down restaurant, but it's not fancy at all.

He seemed to genuinely care about us and our orders; extremely accommodating and polite. The place was rather nice inside too for a brewpub! As we sat down our table was given a small sample of their house made potato chips, they were pretty good, would've been even better in some ranch! With that, the main food: I got a Chicken Caesar wrap and added bacon, honestly it was pretty good. The chicken had good flavor, it was very filling, and adding the bacon stepped it up a notch. For the cons, I wish it would've had more Caesar dressing, and the portion for the price it felt a little smaller than I was expecting. Overall a hearty wrap! I also got the 4 cheese Mac for my side. I was so excited to try it because I've heard people rave about it, but it sort of fell flat for me. If you really like a super creamy mac n cheese this is for you! I just wish there would've been a bit more flavor, some depth, for a premium side I just don't think this did it for me. Overall, great service, cute place right outside the big mall area, but I think the food is a little more average than I was hoping for. If there was an option I'd say it lands more at a 3.5 than a 3. Then again, I only got the wrap and mac, and I know they are more known for the bbq and burgers at the moment, so give those a fair chance!

I was with a group, and one of the people in the group was a pimento cheese aficionado, and she said it was amazing, so there you go. The pimento cheese is served warm with kettle-cooked potato chips. Because I was in a group, we ordered a bunch of things for the table. The pimento cheese, but also the TOTSchos (tater tots covered in beer cheese, pulled pork and cole slaw), and some smoked wings. All of these things were delicious, but my favorite was the TOTSchos because I'm a tot lover, and I love when the tots get kind of soft from the melty cheese and still kind of crunchy from the spots that don't have the melty cheese. BOTS (what people who live here call Bottom of the Stairs) is known for their smoked meats and barbecue. Some of the people at my table got pulled pork and things, but I was feeling like something slightly lighter, so I got the blackened catfish. It comes with slaw and two additional sides, and I picked mac & cheese and collard greens. Well, my meal wasn't light in the slightest, but it was delicious! The fish was tender and had that smoky flavor from the blackened seasoning. I got the Bots Mule to drink, because if I'm not drinking wine, I like to drink gin. Someone at my table got the Pickle-tini, and they did not enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my mule. Gin goes down a treat, I tell you what. Plus! They put your Bots Mule in a plastic BOTS cup that you get to take home. Free souvenir! Bottom of the Stairs exists because there is a Top of the Stairs. It was incredibly large. My first thought when seeing the food was "there's no way I'm going to finish this". The catfish fillet stretched across the entire plate to cover basically the entire thing. I didn't expect the brisket pieces to be so large either. Also, the amount of tater tots on the plate was significant as well. That's not even to consider the mac & cheese and slaw coming in separate, decently sized cups. Starting with the brisket, I thought this was quite good. What jumped out to me at the start was how well this seemed to be cooked, with beautiful char marks throughout and excellently charred edges. The pieces I had that really nice smoky flavor, and the fat in the meat (since brisket is rather lean - there wasn't too much of it) tasted really good as well. I do think it was a bit dry, as cutting it with a knife required a little bit more effort than cutting a perfectly juicy brisket was, and i did notice some of the meat to be somewhat tough, but I do think both pieces were pretty solid Moving to the fried catfish, I loved how well the breading was seasoned. It had some pepper and other spices that gave it that extra flavor. I liked this less than the brisket, however, due to a) how paper-thin the breading was and b) how easily the breading broke apart from the catfish itself. The entire fillet seemed like it was on the verge of collapse. After my first cut with a fork and knife, a lot of the breading came off, and a good amount of the inner fish spilled out onto the plate. I did think the fish meat was certainly not dry and tasted pretty good, though The tater tots were also fantastic, and there was a lot of them. the fried batter on these was thick and they were quite crunchy as a result. I also appreciated the relish-like sauce that came with them. Another thing that was really good was the slaw - I found the dressing especially to be really flavorful and the vegetables were done well. I liked the mac and cheese less, though, so when it came to prioritizing, I only ended up eating a few bites of it As I already mentioned, the portion size here was pretty insane, and for a price of only around 15 dollars for everything, I thought this ratio was astoundingly good. I would recommend ordering just one for two people, as even as someone who can eat a lot, I had to leave a lot of the mac & cheese and tater tots as I prioritized finishing the main dishes. They certainly don't skimp on size - whether it's the main meat or a side

I remember my visit was a special one as it was busy, yet the service and food were impeccable. Bull & Bones put their best foot forward that night and I left Blacksburg thinking that B&B was one reliable dining spot. Neal & I returned on 11/15/25 to check out Tech's football game at Florida State (our hotel wasn't televising the game). We were in town to check out VT v. Charlotte - a basketball game that featured some promising young talent for the Hokies. Of course, I arrived at B&B with high hopes since my previous experience was a memorable one. Unfortunately, my latest visit wasn't quite as good. The evening began well enough - there were plenty of available seats at the bar and we were greeted almost immediately. Our server was nice and pleasant, and returned with our drink orders promptly. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and we were able to order without issue. We weren't in a rush, and the vibe was fairly chill. I didn't expect top tier service, but there were stretches in which an employee couldn't be located in order to get continued service. For example, our server was cut (yet no one informed us) - we didn't see her after she took our dinner orders. I looked around constantly to ask for another round of drinks, but she wasn't around. While waiting for our entrees, what appeared to be the manager on duty stopped by to tell us that our entrees may take a while because our ticket was sent to the kitchen right behind a 40-top's order. He was apologetic, but we were cool with it because of the game. Surprisingly, our food arrived less than 10 minutes after the manager's table visit - we probably wouldn't have noticed anything was wrong if he hadn't said anything. I appreciated the transparency, though. I saw it as one of the evening's highlights. After the food arrived, it was a constant struggle to find any available server (as a reminder, no one told us she was cut). Refills and/or more rounds of drinks were held to a minimum. That irked me - it got to the point where I went to bar whenever I needed something (I wouldn't have minded doing that during the visit, but they set the expectation by providing table service - meaning I want table service for the duration). Neal ordered wings, while I decided to go big with a ribeye. Neal devoured his entree but I wasn't happy with mine. I ordered the ribeye rare - it came out nearly well-done. My entree came with two sides - I ordered sweet potato fries and rice. The sweet potato fries were overcooked and burnt. I tried one fry and one fry only because it was charred and inedible. The rice wasn't much better as it was cold and mushy. Since a garlic parm fries appetizer was already at our table, I loaded up on that since they were pretty good. The steak was passable since it wasn't completely dry, so I ate about half of that before I became full. So, B&B was a miss, imo, this time around. It would be easy to dismiss this as things going haywire during a busy Saturday night dinner service but, outside of the 40-top, they were empty. So, this visit felt like B&B's quality has gone downhill. I hope this isn't the norm for B&B because they honestly are a good place. But after time, some businesses lose their focus, and it felt like B&B reached that stage. Hopefully they can re-evaluate, reinvent, refocus and improve, but if their food quality continues to suffer, they won't last. Thank you, Bull & Bones. JV

Our most recent visit felt like a "vanishing act"--once our order was taken, we were left with empty glasses and a table cluttered with dirty dishes for the rest of the meal/dessert. The breaking point for an afternoon lunch was the 15-minute wait just to close out our checks after they were dropped off. Our server mentioned they were handling 15 tables at once, so I know they were doing their best; but where is management? I've spent many years working in the service industry in almost every position, and we were trained to ask any table we walked by that looked like there were empty plates to ask if they wanted those cleared for them. Management always checked on tables or was visible on the floor. And this wasn't a 5-star restaurant, it was a chili bar/cafe. There was no one touching tables or assisting a clearly overwhelmed floor. Whether it's a scheduling or staffing issue, the kitchen deserves better support because the service gaps are actively driving us to look elsewhere for lunch. I hope management/ownership takes these reviews seriously and helps support their team and makes a few changes. We want to love this place cuz the food is good, but if service doesn't change then what are we paying/tipping for?
