I was super excited to try out Mission BBQ. Raised by an Louisiana/ Texas native, my expectations for BBQ are always high. Unfortunately, Mission BBQ was a miss for me. I had the pulled chicken, collard greens and fries, while my mom had brisket. The collard greens were way too soggy, my pulled chicken was ok, and my mom's brisket was super dry. Definitely my favorite chain bbq restaurants! The employees are always upbeat and friendly. I never have to wait a long time in line and the food always comes out fast and fresh. I usually order the baby back ribs and side it with Mac and cheese and green beans. The Mac is so cheesy with some breadcrumbs on top. Really good. The green beans are always delicious. They have a veteran appreciation going on which is really nice I think it's important to support our veterans. The restaurant itself is clean. You can walk to the end of the counter and wait about 3 to 5 minutes and they bring your food out. You then go and sit wherever you'd like and have a nice meal. This place did Not disappoint. What I don't understand in most southern joints is the lack of Mac n cheese. This place by far has the best Mac n cheese. Baked and creamy. Everything I tried at Mission BBQ, which have been separate orders of their baby back ribs, pull pork, smoked turkey and "Kickin' Collard Greens," I found to be rather good, but as far as BBQ goes, nothing struck me as in any way being superlative or exceptional. Matter of fact the highlights of Mission BBQ were, for me, their sauces rather than their foods. They have a really good Memphis Sauce which I liberally slathered over my baby back ribs and mixed in with my pulled pork. Also a super good white Alabama Sauce which when combined with their smoked turkey proved to be a real treat, and I was particularly pleased that they had it. For reasons unknown to me, most of the local BBQ places I've frequented don't have a white Alabama Sauce available with some oddly enough not even knowing what it is. Mission BBQ is rather large BBQ restaurant occupying the north end of a strip mall. They don't have waitresses or menus. You simply order over the counter from an overhead listing of foods and wait while they prepare it for you. Like most barbecue places your stuck having to use those horrid flimsy plastic forks, spoons and knives, and your meal instead of being placed upon a place comes atop a piece of brown paper on a plastic tray. The general décor of the place centers around a lot of American patriotism with American flags, football tributes to the Army, Navy and Airforce teams. Also mural tributes to veterans, which with myself being a combat veteran, I confess that I sort of like. After all, you just can't get any more Southern patriotic or American than BBQ, football or NASCAR along with things like sweet tea or collards, all of which Southerners are very, very, very serious about. read more

I was visiting last week on a business trip and had scoped this place out on Yelp. It was close to the airport and where I was going for my appointment so I stopped by for lunch at around 11:30 a.m. on a weekday. Walking in I immediately notice the military, law enforcement and fire fighter decor of the interior. Everything looked good and was tasteful. There are a lot of things on the walls to look at regarding the theme and I liked that. Walking up to the counter I ordered a half chicken plate with beans and potato salad as sides. The food was ready in about 2-3 minutes and I went and sat down to eat it. As I started one of the waitresses brought me some white sauce to use on the chicken. I am glad she did because it was excellent with a hint of horseradish. The chicken was moist and smokey in taste. I was very pleased with it. The beans had brisket meat in them and the potato salad was chunky and I must say both sides were excellent. With the chicken, I was very pleased with my meal and could not have asked for anything to be better. Since this was my first time here I am usually hesitant to give an overall score of a 5 for one meal. I want to try their brisket next time. From what I saw I believe that this restaurant does deserve a 5 and I will look forward to my next Fort Lauderdale trip to eat here again. read more

We LOVE Missions BBQ! We were avid Nancy BBQ people and since she closed her doors we had to find a BBQ joint. Missions did NOT DISAPPOINT! The food is unbelievably delicious. Customer service is on top notch. Very kid friendly. If there was a mistake (we are all human) they make it right. No if, ands, or buts about it! Recently when we went to our frequently visited located off University Parkway a woman by the name of Jaime was taking care of our table. She took care of anything that we needed, and did not hover over our table. We were able to enjoy our meal. As team Friday, we all went to Mission BBQ. Despite it being lunch hour and also around 10 of us, I was surprised that Ryan was able to find seating. It is so nice that upon request, they can accommodate that many people. Although there was a long line to order, they line moved very quick. I ordered the 1/2 pound beef brisket with a side of beans. Although the menu was a little confusing, I was happy that my order came with a side of cornbread. They have plenty of BBQ sauces for you to try. I think the group's favorite was the Baja Bold sauce. The location is in the corner plaza, and if you go there on lunchtime, know that you are probably going to fight for parking or park on the grass curb. The first thing you'll notice as you walk into Mission BBQ is their large amount of police and military memorabilia and their support for our first responders. They also post about hiring veterans, which is definitely commended. Service was also prompt and pleasant. I stopped by when my Saturday workday took me to the Davie area close to lunchtime. The restaurant was busy, but my lunch plate was ready relatively fast. Unlike a lot of chain restaurants, the manager also went by the tables and checked on the patrons. I ordered their half chicken plate with fries and baked beans. The fries were crispy and baked beans sweet. I also took my time on the chicken because it was one of the meatier chicken plates I've had. There were a few spots where it could have been smoked a little longer, but all in all it was really juicy. The skin also had a nice smoky aroma. Besides the chicken itself, the variety of 6 sauces on the table made it a winner. Although I normally opt for sweet, the "Smokey Mountain" smoker sauce was my favorite, along with the Classic KC and Memphis Belle Sweet Sauces also piqued my taste buds. read more

When we drove into the Plaza from University, we felt this location looked familiar. Then we realize that used to be Jimmy Riffle's Old Florida BAR-B-Q, next to Burger 21 which was part of our UYE - Davie Burger Crawl. I never tried that place and was hoping this place to be a hit. The place was packed past lunch hour, which is a great sign. As soon as we walked in, a staff approached us and explained the menus to us since it was our first visit. He was very friend and helpful. Since this was our first, he recommended that we tried a 3 meat sampler so we get to try different kind of meats. Sold! Everything on the menu is a la cart, which is kind of a good idea because you can pick out the exact menu items you wanted. He also recommended us their most popular items, which are the ribs and briskets. We also picked the pulled pork since my wife's dental work is not exactly done yet and still can't chew meat if it was tough. Wow! He was he right about the ribs. The meat was easily off the bone tender. It had a very good smoky flavor. The pulled pork was also very good too, nice and soft which makes it easy my wife to chew...LOL! The brisket was pretty good, perhaps a bit dry for my likings. But the simple solution to this is eat them with one of their 6 flavor BBQ sauces. I actually tried 3 or 4 different kinds and my favorite has the be the smoky sauce. It's a little bit sweet with a rich smoky flavor. Overall, we like this place very much. The line moved fairly quickly, and you get your food in a pretty timely manner. The entire staff members were friendly and attentive. Also, I just love the way the place is decorated. I loved the military theme, with all the pictures, uniforms and patches on the wall. I was informed that they don't put any sauces on their meat and that there are 6 sauces on the tables you can choose from. My ribs were cooked perfectly. I'm talking fall off the bone perfection! But I'm not so sure I liked having to chose my own sauces. I'm indecisive! And personally I liked it cooked into the meat. But my favorite one was probably KC which is the sweetest one. The sides were okay. I wasn't impressed. GASP! How could I not like the cheesy potatoes?! It really is just a personal preference. I'm sure you will love it. If there's one thing I love about America it's southern BBQ. Nobody really knows the origins of BBQ, but our bible believing brethren south of the Mason-Dixon line have promulgated this finger licking goodness for decades. To date there are 4 differing styles of BBQ, Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas City and Texan. - North Carolina smokes the whole hog in a vinegar-based sauce. - Kansas City natives prefers ribs cooked in a dry rub, - Texans specialize in beef. - Memphis is primarily two different dishes: ribs, which come "wet" and "dry", and barbecue sandwiches. Mission is the only BBQ joint I'll patronize that doesn't use traditional smoking drums, unfortunately they use modern BBQ ovens, but the BBQ is still pretty tasty. I suspect the owners are "Super Republicans" because this place is literally a museum for the "troops" and police. As they stated on their website, "serve it to you in a patriotic dining room filled with tributes to those who've made Our Country great". It seems more nationalistic than patriotic, but that's another story. Every time I come here the "Southerners" seem to come out of hiding and congregate here openly. Anyway I always get the same thing, a half chicken, fries, mac & cheese and a lemonade. Everything is always consistently tasty. Don't get me wrong this BBQ is in no way in the class of steel drum smoked BBQ, but it's not bad at all. They have 6 different BBQ sauces, each representing a different southern state. Personally I'm not fond of any of them, but the classic one is not that bad. If I'm not in the mood to drive all the way to Blue Willy's in Fort Lauderdale, this place is always a pleasant substitute. ++customer service is always great! I was really excited that Mission BBQ opened a location nearby! I had heard a lot of great things about it, and I was missing a good quick-serve BBQ restaurant in Florida. I went with a friend for dinner, and I was surprised it was PACKED on a Monday night. There are a lot of tables inside and out, and inside it filled up. That's a good sign! The ordering process here reminds me of Rudy's BBQ in Texas, which I am a huge fan of. You walk in, there's some quick grab items at the cashier, and you order what you want, such as meats a la carte or combo meals. They have straight up meats, sandwiches, ribs on the bone, and lots of side dishes. In addition to the paper menu, check the boards above the cashier to see special sides and desserts. I ordered the Meat Market Sampler, which comes with 2 or 3 meats, and made it an XXL Combo, which adds 2 sides and a drink. I bought the American Heroes souvenir cup, which costs $3.99, and $2 goes to charity and when you bring it back, you get 99 cent refills. My total meal came up to $16, which is decent for a such a big meal. I ordered the Brisket and Pulled Pork. I'm really picky about my brisket, so maybe this is overly critical, but I found it dry and underwhelming. At least it was soft. I smothered it in all of the different sauces, which I loved all of them! The pulled pork I liked a lot. It was very flavorful and juicy. For my sides, I got the mac-n-cheese and the cheesy potatoes. Both are very flavorful, but if you only order 1 side, make it the cheesy potatoes!! They were SO yummy, with creamy cheese and slightly crunchy potatoes. The service is top notch here. They had blocked off tables, but dining in was still possible. I went for their pulled pork sandwich and fries. They did not disappoint. Their fries were adequately seasoned with salt and pepper, they fried them on the spot. Looks like this is something they practice, which means that they'd don't sacrifice quality for readiness. This is not a fast food joint. Their pulled pork sandwich wasn't moist, but it didn't taste dry. Some sort of black magic, I guess... When asked which sauces I wanted (spicy or sweet) I said yes. I am a sauce fan and was very excited to see a bunch of bbq sauces. My favorite was the spicy honey bbq sauce. My brother's meal, which were ribs looked amazing and the meat was slipping off the bones. My husband's bbq chicken was juicy and delicious as well. After we sat down, the line was out of the door. We actually tried Mission BBQ because the place we had originally planned to order from for Mother's Day was closed on Sundays during the Covid-19 restrictions. I'd had a catered meal from Mission BBQ at a previous event & since it was close by we decided to give it a try. We first checked out Mission's menu online & we decided to get the $12.99 per person family barbecue meal. You get to choose two types of meat, so we chose pulled chicken and pulled pork. You also get three sides so we chose macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw. Then you could opt between slider buns, cornbread, or a combination of both and we went with the combination. I think everyone in our group was pleasantly surprised with two things. The food was really good, and there was more than enough for four people. Both of the meats were juicy & cooked to perfection. They also let you try 3 different types of sauces. (One full container, and some mini sample sized containers of the other two.). For our main sauce we selected the Kansas City style & it was really thick & good; not watery at all . Since I liked the main sauce; I didn't even try the others because one was Memphis style & the other one was the really hot sauce. (Which I'm sure would be too spicy for me!) They weren't labeled so we couldn't tell them apart. The mac and cheese and the coleslaw were good, but the baked beans were outstanding. They were the best of the sides! Like I said there was plenty of good....so we were all able to have a second barbecue meal for lunch on a Monday. I didn't mention that we did curbside pick-up. Everything was ready & brought out to our vehicle right on time. There wasn't a hitch!
