Recently tried their BBQ and went back the very next day - that's how good it was. I loved their pulled pork, french fries and cornbread. Their ribs were meaty and my friends loved their mac and cheese and brisket. Didn't love their cole slaw. They have pepsi products too, so loved pairing my favorite mountain dew with a good bbq meal. I like all of their sauces - I usually just end up squeezing them all onto my tray. The line moves quick - you order and your food is done by the time you sit down at a table. I don't get how they work so quickly and feed so many people in a short amount of time. The ambiance is comfortable - they're very patriotic and I will be back very soon. Gotta be straight up, this was some of the best bbq I've ever had. I got the meat sampler with the brisket and the pulled bbq. Both were so tender, especially the brisket. The mac n cheese, cheesy potatoes and corn bread were equally amazing. The green beans were a mixture of beans, onions and bacon, could have used more green beans but it was still really good. First time at mission in Gainesville to grab lunch to-go. Brisket, Mac n cheese and collards were all AMAZING! But.. the corn bread was the worst I've ever had (hard, dry, no flavor, crumbled in my hand). So disappointing as corn bread is usually my favorite part of BBQ. Aside from that, the service was spot on! Will be back but hopefully they reconsider their cornbread recipe or at least don't overlook it. read more

We are very, very particular about our BBQ. By that we mean smoked over a haze of wood coals for hours. That being said, in VA we have driven long distances to try someone's favorite BBQ place only to be disappointed everytime except today. Several places which were packed with folks even put cinnamon in their sauce. Yuck! Not to our GA, SC palates. At Mission BBQ, the meat was juicy and tender with just the perfect amount of smoke flavor. They have MUSTARD sauce in addition to several other sauces which were very flavorful. The beans had brisket pieces and were delicious! The potato salad was good but we added a little sauce for a yummy kick. The cornbread has some sugar added which made one of us happy. The banana pudding tasted good but there were no bananas in the jello like pudding. So, not homemade tasting even if it was. When a small chain gets it right for 3 picky Southerners they will be our new go to BBQ place in VA. And they hire veterans so we liked that too. read more

So, the food is actually pretty good. The reason I'm giving it one star and not going back is because of all the other customers. Imagine, people are constantly licking their fingers (because it's good) and then grabbing another bottle of sauce to try! I wouldn't consider myself a germ-a-phob but I can't imagine all the germs! First experience with this place the food was cold, but tasted good. Not sure we chose to try again a few months later. Food was good and this time much warmer however, ordering over the phone and coming in to order is basically the same since they don't put the meal together until you arrive and pay. We've eaten here a bunch of times. I love that this place offers so many sauces in all styles. I don't have a favorite, but I really like the Kansas City Classic and Memphis Belle while the hubs likes the Tupelo Honey Heat. Everything is really good. The sides are a la carte, but you can upgrade to a combo which includes a drink and a side or a drink and 2 sides. I love the greens beans with bacon and their cornbread. Mac and cheese and baked beans are solid as well. All the meat is tender and juicy. Prices are reasonable and portions are good size. read more

These ribs were gooey like they've been cooked in an oven. They fall off the bone, but not in a good way. Also, dial back the salt. I can't eveb begin to taste what else was in the rub because, I all I got was salt. Additionally, do something about that cornbread. Tastyish, but dryer than the damn sahara. I was pleasantly surprised and thought they had really good food. I personally still favor the local Bone BBQ, but this is good. I've had the pulled pork, brisket, and the spicy sausage, with green beans coleslaw, and salad. All good. At the risk of coming off un-American, the National Anthem at noon comes off a little kitchy and like they are trying to capitalize on it. Not a big fan personally. Mission BBQ has solid food at a good price. The pulled pork and sausages are amazing and their brisket is up there too. The place can get packed but they keep the line moving. They give generous portions of their sides and serve them piping hot. They have a few different sauces to choose from. I really liked the Carolina pulled pork with a dab of their tangy sauce that has a touch of honey. The cheddar jalapeño sausage has a nice spicy bite without being overpowering, but maybe a little too salty. The brisket is the thick sliced crumbly kind but without being overly dried out. The sides and cornbread round out the meal. The barbecue really shines though the fact that it's a chain. It's worth a try if you find yourself in western Prince William county. read more

Found my new favorite BBQ spot. Went in having never eaten at one of these places. Was greeted with lots of neat decor. Ordered the pulled pork plate with a side of beans. The food arrived very quickly. It was so, SO good. They gave me a good variety of sauces with my order, and I tried to slather a little bit of the hottest/spiciest smelling ones on my food. Every sauce I tried was a winner. I was super tempted to get one of their glass bottle sodas with my food (guilty pleasure), especially since they had a nice variety. All the bottled sodas are wedged inside a batch of crushed ice so they're nicely chilled, perfect for hot days during the summer. Thinking about it now I wish I had just splurged and gotten one with my food, I'm so dumb. Anyway, the meat. YES. This is the kinda BBQ where you take your time chewing. Every bite should be savored. I'm probably being ridiculous but I enjoyed covering a few bites of meat in a new sauce, scooping it into my mouth and closing my eyes to let all the flavors do the work. It's like treating your taste buds to a day at the spa. Me and the other diners were regularly interrupting our normal table conversation to chime in about how good this or that sauce was, how tasty our food was. We were all extremely impressed. And then we tried the beans. First off, the serving of beans they give you is pretty big. It's a decent sized basin of beans. It was actually hard trying to finish all my food in one sitting. The beans are super legit. I love how they include chunks of brisket and you find them in almost every bite. Meaty and delicious. My only hope is that they would offer a spicy version of their beans. I like my beans evil and spicy. The cornbread was good too! Give this place a try. I will be coming back frequently. read more

Fantastic brisket, good enough to come back just for this. Super tender/juicy and somehow lean at the same time, no visible fat. I usually go for the fatty brisket if its an option. I got mine with mac n cheese and also managed to steal a bite of pork, both also worth returning for. Service was super friendly. I'll admit I'm not a fan of all their sauces; some too smokey, some too twangy. Our group did find it interesting that the sauces correlated to states with WVA, MD, and NC represented but no Virginia. Maybe they'd consider adding a Virginia sauce, maybe a apple cider/viognier base? But seriously, the meats I tried didn't really need any sauce. Will be back to this great addition. read more

I love Mission BBQ; but I will never, ever order the black plate special ribeye again! I ordered medium rare and they came out past well done with the consistency of beef jerky (really old beef jerky). I guess that's why it's only 11 bucks...ya get what ya pay for. Lesson learned. Due to the current pick-up requirement under COVID-19, I wasn't gonna bother with returning them (by the way, ordered 2 steaks), so into the garbage they went and we ended up having Wendy's burgers and chili instead. Good call. I think I'm done with Mission BBQ until we can go in and eat there. So disappointed because the food is normally good. read more

This is a good place they get most everything right especially considering it's a commercial BBQ joint - one you might expect to cut Corners in the interests of saving money. I had the two meat plate with pulled pork and brisket and a side of beans for 10.xx. both meats were perfectly flavored, thoroughly consistent doneness and crazy tender. The brisket was so tender it came apart easily with a plastic fork. The ice tea is real brewed with both sweet and unsweet choices and there's lots of other drinks to choose from as well. If I want to pick one thing to complain about it's the sauces;. You have your choice of six and none of the six include either a vinegar or a mustard-based sauce they really seem to be dissing on Carolina Barbecue here. I still would probably frequent a hole-in-the-wall place with a good reputation but this is as good a Good As It Gets in my suburban area. read more
