This was my first experience at this location in Gainesville. The staff was more friendly than the other one in Chantilly. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, to-go, with a side of Mac n cheese and French fries. The man who put my order together was very helpful. As far as taste is concerned, the pork was fairly good. It was freshly made and not too dry, but it did not exceed my expectations of "very good" pulled pork. The French fries were alright, nothing to rave over. The Mac n cheese tasted pleasant. The word delicious does not come close to describing the melt in your mouth taste of EVERYTHING!!! We were a party of 12 - and even without COVID that can be tough. But the folks at Mission BBQ were simply amazing. This was our first time at this location and some of us where new to Mission BBQ. Those at the counter helped us order, explained the menu and once seated, David brought out utensils, asked what we needed, took pictures and was just super great to Help us all the time. Food is usually delicious, last time the coleslaw was rotten and this time they didn't put the top of the sandwich on one of my five. They usually show you the sandwiches but they just threw it in the bag because a large group was coming in. I will have to find a new location. read more

First of all, let me just say that the day of the wedding ended up being great. The servers were kind and polite and the food was a huge hit. Thank you for all your help this past weekend catering. However, this was such a horrible experience overall. I talked to five different catering managers, I was quoted wrong for my event and I was stood up at my tasting. Sometimes just to hear back from someone took over a month and an extra email reminding someone to contact me. The week of my wedding, no one even had the address for my event or my phone number. Understandably, the Gainesville event opened just recently and I'm sure things have been hard to get rolling effectively and quickly, but as mentioned, such a bad experience. The food was really good and my family enjoyed the atmosphere. The only complaint I have has nothing to do with their service. After eating I went to the front to get a To-Go box and get a dessert leaving my meal on the table. Upon my return one of the bus boys (doing their job) through away the left overs that I planned to take home. When the bbq is made the right way it's soooo good. However, the last couple times we've gone it's been really bad. The brisket is the best option, but it's really hit or miss. Unfortunately, the last couple times it's been nothing but a pile of fat or undercooked. Thank god i got 2 meats so i could at least enjoy the turkey. Really wanted to love this place. It's convenient, fast, nicely laid out, and smells inviting, but alas, a mixed review. As it was a first visit to any Mission BBQ, had to try a couple of things. First, the superlative: the (moist) brisket was perfect! Slightly smoky, cooked tender without falling apart, with everything just highlighting the inherent goodness. The green beans were also very good, seasoned well with a good bit of meat and onion mixed in. Also, the lemonade was a refreshing complement to the meal. Now, the bad... Cornbread, while richly corn-y, was unpleasantly dry. The bean were more of the "bbq" than the actual "baked" variety; just tasted as if someone just dumped beans into (only) barbecue sauce. The biggest disappointment was the ribs. They were terrifically tender, but inedible because they were so highly perfumed with cumin - couldn't taste anything else. Most of them went into the bin. Very sad. All in all, a return for the brisket is inevitable, and there was enough encouraging factors to venture out and try more things. read more

I love it and go as often as possible. While waiting for my friends to show they came out to the line and gave out samples of the different meats. While I am always a fan of brisket and pulled pork and those are my go to choices, I tried their jalapeño and cheddar sausage and it was awesome! This is a business where I love the story behind its creation and the patriotism and sense of purpose, and I WANT to love it so much, but I'm sad to say that the food I've tried here just wasn't good or fresh. This review is only for the food, since both of my orders were to go. On my first try, I had the half chicken with mac n cheese, green beans, and corn bread. The half chicken was decent flavor-wise but dry. In comparison to The Bone, 5 mins down the road, it just couldn't compare in flavor and moisture. The green beans seemed old and taste like ones out of a can. When I ordered them, I was hoping for fresh green beans, but the bits of bacon were nice and added to the flavor. The corn bread was extremely dry and flavorless, to the point that I stopped eating it after a few bites. The mac n cheese, was also decent, but lacked flavor and creaminess when compared to The Bone (sorry for all the comparisons, but it's clearly my favorite). After this meal that didn't leave much of an impression, I went back to The Bone and District KC BBQ. Many months went by, and today, I gave it a second go, because every time I try a new restaurant, I try to remember that each one has their off days just like people do. Today, I tried the baked beans with brisket, the green beans again, and the pulled chicken this time. The baked beans were ok, they had a nice flavor with the brisket added. The green beans, once again, seemed old and dingy looking. The pulled chicken, which I ordered because I saw it was praised on Yelp reviews for being so moist and tender, was hard and SO DRY. I had trouble eating it, to be honest. I had to slather it in BBQ sauce to the point where I couldn't taste the chicken anymore. I was going to give the cornbread another try, but my friend started eating it and said "don't bother, it's not good," so it actually got thrown away. I'm so disappointed! I love the message and mission and its local and convienient. But at the end of the day, as much as I want to support a good cause, it really comes down to the food and whether I'd want to eat it again. I'd much rather drive 5-10 extra minutes to go to another place that tastes significantly better in every way. read more

I will start by saying that I NORMALLY love Mission BBQ. However, I went to the Gainesville location on 11 April during the dinner rush. When I got home, it became very apparent the quality is not what it was prior to the Corona virus. I ordered the 1/2 pound pulled chicken meal, and it was more than 75% fat. That has never happened before, and it made me feel as though they're not concerned about customers returning after the Corona virus. They're only concerned about making money NOW and therefore they are willing to throw in fat, skin, or anything else that will minimize costs and raise their profit margin. This is definitely not the same quality that they're known for, or that I've been accustomed to receiving from this location. read more

For a chain restaurant, this can help your BBQ fix. Many options available. Can get to go or eat in. Over 6 sauces to try and enjoy while eating your meal at the table. I went in to the restaurant, and immediately I felt uncomfortable. The staff was staring at me and my friend who was also not white and my young sister incredibly rudely. I placed my order and I was spoken to like I was a "lesser" person than the white man who was taking my order and I was treated like actual garbage. Terrible... I like this place in other cities, this one in Gainesville (which just opened) has worse service than a McDonald's drive through.. Food was okay - we called in our order 20 min before picking up (btw don't do this. Ever. It doesn't help you as they don't start your order according to the lady that served me, until you arrive)... then they forgot items ie fries weren't in my order and had to now wait an additional 10 min for them to cook.. I loooooove the ribs and the employees are really nice and helpful! One of the gentlemen is always on hand to help with anything. My favorite side is the Mac and cheese. My only problem is the inconsistency with the seasoning on the ribs. Sometimes it's the right amount of flavor and saltiness but other times they are waaaaay too salty. Just had a great experience at mission bbq. My friend and I went to grab dinner after work, and first of all, the cashiers were extremely friendly off the start. Then our food came out lightning quick, I mean as soon as my friend finished filling up his drink his food was already being called. Finally, as we were eating, one of their employees came around to check how our food and experience was, and then proceeded to give us both a coupon for a free sandwich!
