I just left here (2:44pm on 3/29) and had a terrible experience. I asked for fresh fries dropped with no salt added. Instead of just obliging, the young lady packing the food (black, glasses, weave ponytail) and the Hispanic lady in the back gave me nothing but attitude and talked about how the fries in the warmer don't have salt, etc. I don't care. I want freshly made fries without salt not fries that have been sitting for who knows how long in the warmer. As a paying customer, it's not too much to ask to have fries dropped. read more

I was in Greenbelt for a month for work and drove by this location every day. I finally decided to give it a try. I liked their mission, as it were, to support the military and first responders. I got in line and all I wanted was the pulled pork sandwich. No drink, no fries, just the sandwich. You'd think I was crazy. The cashier was incredulous I didn't order more. The guy who gave me the order told me I was killing him for not ordering more. What a great way to encourage repeat visits - NOT! Got back to my hotel room and the sandwich was good, a little dry, even with the BBQ sauce. If you go, order a lot or they will make you feel guilty. read more

This place is solid. The BBQ is good and all their sides are also excellent. I've tried everything on the menu, and I especially like the moist brisket, jalapeno and cheese sausages, corn bread, and their mac and cheese. The delicious corn bread is served warm, and the perfectly prepared mac and cheese is cheesy and gooey. They have great selection of bbq sauces to choose from to go along with your entree and sides. The space here is really clean and organized, and the staff are really, really great. They're always checking to see if you need anything, sometimes offering samples of the latest new side or special, or asking to take your tray for you when you're finished. Come here. Mission BBQ is going to get all my money. I came here on its opening day, and I'm SO glad it's in my neighborhood now. I was probably one of a handful of people who'd never had Mission BBQ, despite it having several other locations nearby. This location is incredibly conveniently located. It's in a small set of stores next to Beltway Plaza (I wouldn't call it quite a mall), and there's tons of other businesses nearby. Parking is a private lot and there are plenty of spots. I like that this location has an open layout with plenty of seating. Although we had takeout, it's nice to know that if I wanted to get settled with my food, I wouldn't feel cramped. The staff were SO friendly. They explained everything to me and didn't have any kind of attitude. When I say I was pretty clueless in ordering? I was almost ashamed. Nonetheless, every staff member took the time to explain how Mission BBQ operates and what my options were. On to the food -- delicious! I'm a huge BBQ fan and have been waiting FOREVER for a place with serious BBQ skills. For meat, we tried the pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, and ribs. Sides were fries, mac n cheese, green beans, and cornbread. My fave is definitely the pulled chicken - so moist and flavorful! The ribs were falling off the bone. The charred edges of the brisket made me drool. And the pulled pork was delicious even without any sauce. The sides were equally flavorful. The cornbread was OK ... I prefer a softer, sweeter style, but this is good. Everything here is made with a dry rub, and it's up to you to sauce up your meats. I am in love with the Texas Honey Heat. [giggle snort] Indecisive gal here! I got the 2-meat sampler with MOIST brisket and pulled pork with the XL combo-- side of green bean w/ bacon and fountain drink. The couple with whom I was third-wheeling got pulled pork with an XXL combo of mac & cheese and cheesy potatoes as their sides. XL and XXL combos-- They're fo sho referring to your pants size after the meal. It's hard to beat the meat here (mmmm hmm, I said it). The moist brisket was well... moist, and the pulled pork was nicely done not dry AKA moist. They were good on their own but even better with the sauces! Out of the six sauces available, my favorite was the Smoky Mountain. I wish they had collard greens w/ bacon or creamed corn to go with the meats, but green beans had to do. Cornbread was pretty tasty too! Their sweet tea won't club you in the face with a sugar bat (which are cute btw), but I added some lemonade and unsweet tea anyway for a delicious Arnold Palmer. Soooooo I have been hearing about this spot for a minute. Actually, I heard about the Laurel location and just so happen to drive by the Greenbelt one. Apparently, they have stolen the Chipotle clientele located in the same shopping center. When I walked in I was a bit confused bc I didn't know if I had to be seated or order at the counter. I proceeded to the counter and the young lady gave me some options. I went with the brisket combo. The food is ok. The brisket (i had rhe lean) wasnt really seasoned the way I'm used to for bbq. The flavor came from the sauces provided on the table. I had the mac and cheese. Mines is better. I had the green beans which was more onions than green beans. The best part was, you know it, THE SWEET TEA! Ha! I'll give it another try, perhaps with some direction. read more

I'm from North Carolina and my wife went to school at the University of Texas, so we were not expecting strip mall barbecue to be any good. I actually skipped Mission for lunch the day before because I made a dumb assumption about the quality. To be fair, this place doesn't stack up with the best of North Carolina or Texas. But I'll take 90% of home if I'm in a strip mall in Maryland. The pulled pork was lean, and the brisket (which comes with a lean cut or the normal) was also tasty. The variety of sauces were strong, though I wish they would have had a more traditional Carolina. We also liked the fries- well cooked, and they went well with the barbecue. I'll be back. read more

Stopped by here for lunch the other day. I ordered the pork sandwhich with a side of their mac n cheese. The sandwhich didn't really wow me. It was moist, but on the dry side. Yes, the sauces are there for you to try, but for what you pay I expect a little more. Mac n cheese was mediocre nothing to rave about. I do enjoy the service here. Cashiers are very knowledgeable about whats on the menu, chef comes out to greet you and there are waiters ready to clean up your table. Prices are reasonable and while this is definitely not the best BBQ I've ever had, I think they're doing just fine for Maryland. I was annoyed that there are no beef ribs, but the Chopped Brisket Sandwich I had was pretty tasty. All the sauce options are on the table and a few of them are quite good - though I did settle on the hot & sweet one. Their sweet tea & lemonade is also pretty good. The only thing that's annoying is that the banana pudding is seasonal. I was so excited to try it and guess what they didn't have ... that. It's apparently an end of the year offering only. I just ate here for the first time. The moment you walk in the door you're greeted with the amazing, delicious smell of the barbecue. Then I was cheerfully greeted by the staff. I explained how I had never been there and asked a question about the different sandwiches. The young lady behind the counter was able to explain it very clearly. After ordering, my friend wanted to see the smokers. The gentleman in then proceeded to proudly show off where and how the meat was cooked. He was happy to share what they did. EVERYONE working there was amazingly polite and proud of where they worked. The food was the best barbecue I have ever tasted (including my aunt's in NC). The sweet tea was outstanding. I was also very happy to see the how they decorated. Paying honor to our military and first responders. I can't wait to go back and enjoy the food and people. Better Than Great! At first I was just going to review this establishment because of the women's restroom...no, it's not my first time here but I have never used the restroom or ordered salmon, but since the customer device was so awesome, I have to give a shout out to the crew this evening! Especially Jake (Catering mgr)!! We had to wait for the salmon to be prepared and it ended up taking longer than expected. The whole crew engaged in conversation and made sure we were good during our wait. Even blessed us with a treat . I will always patronize this restaurant (even after having a bad experience with one of the employees a few months back). But back to the women's restroom...this is BY FAR THE MOST FABULOUS space I've been in publicly in a long time. I'm a big mission bbq fan, been supporting the green belt location since they opened when I used to live out there. My parents still live in Maryland and everytime I go visit I still go to mission. Their sides like most bbq spots are hit and miss, the coleslaw needs sugar, Mayo and dill lol although I still get it everytime. The other sides especially seasonal items are just alright. The desserts are honestly better. The meat however, the star of the show is amazing. You can't go wrong with anything you get there so I usually get a 3 meat sampler so the greedy girl in me can try everything. Their sausage links are good, the half chicken and pulled chicken so Smokey and flavorful, the pork ribs either spare ribs or baby back ribs are amazing you can't go wrong and the brisket is hit or miss for me. I used to always get the brisket because I love the burnt ends or the end of the brisket with all the seasoning, but sometimes you get pieces with seasoning and sometimes you don't so I stopped getting it, but my boyfriend is obsessed with it. The sauces are what draws us in too; the Texas twang I think and the Alabama white sauce are my absolute favorite. Honestly that's white sauce would taste good on anything. Lastly I'm an iced tea and lemonade connoisseur and there is to die for. I usually do a half and half or Arnold Palmer with their slices of lemon they provide. It is so refreshing! read more

I saw these places popping up on the map a few years ago and decided I needed to give one a try. Having served a full career in the US Air Force, I admit I will always visit an establishment that caters to veterans. It's an added bonus if I like that place, so I'll definitely return. I was greeted immediately as I walked in and my order was taken promptly. The menu seemed a little overwhelming at first, but the counter person was knowledgable and helpful and answered all of my questions. I ordered a triple meat sampler and liked it. The brisket was moist, fatty and delicious (you can also order it lean) and the pulled chicken was excellent. The smoked turkey is a little dry, but with a little sauce from one of the six bottles you have to choose from it comes through. The beans and brisket were also tasty. The place is clean and the employees are kind and courteous. If you visit just before noon any day they are open, everything in the restaurant will stop as they play the national anthem. This was a practice long before the current controversy surrounding the star spangled banner and all patrons should show their respect for service members and veterans who will undoubtedly be there at any given time of the day. The food comes out pretty quick so the overall wait is very minor. The line moves quick so you won't need to wait too long. They do have various sauces that you can try if you decide to eat there. Mission has better-than-average bbq for the area that should suite a variety of tastes. It also has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere and exceptionally friendly staff, which makes it a really pleasant casual dining experience. Their patriotism and support for first responders and the military is also noteworthy, and adds a sense of purpose to the experience. The brisket and ribs are dry-rubbed, which appeals to my Texas bbq sensibilities, but they also feature pulled pork and a variety of sauces for those more interested in the south east/east coast/mid-Atlantic style bbq. The brisket (moist, not lean) is my first choice, because good brisket is a thing of beauty. The baby back ribs are rubbed down with Old Bay, which I'm sure makes them a local favorite. I'm more of a Tony's guy than an Old Bay person, but bbq style and seasonings, like religion and politics, are always controversial topics. They rotate desserts, one at a time, which have been hit-or-miss. The banana pudding in the summer of 2015 was spectacular, and this winter's triple berry cobbler was tasty and not too sweet, but could use more cobbler with the berries. It's all pretty salty (the meats and the sides), as many reviewers have commented, but we still go out of our way to get there because it's good, there aren't many other Texas-style bbq alternatives in the area (aside from Hill Country BBQ in DC), and to enjoy the upbeat, friendly atmosphere. read more

Was in the Greenbelt area this week for business. A coworker suggested Mission BBQ, and it was a great choice. From the cashier to the folks busing tables, everyone was friendly and courteous. Our meal was ready very quickly at dinner time, and it was delicious. It was a great value for the money on the BBQ meat platters, and the sides were good sized servings as well. I had brisket and jalapeño sausage, which were very tasty. I loved the variety of BBQ sauces at each table. As a veteran, the decor was great and honoring of service members. I'm a lover of anything BBQ so naturally, I wanted to try out this place after reading the glowing reviews. Sadly, I was not a fan of my order of a pulled chicken sandwich and baked beans. The meat was not moist and the sauces were not marinated in the pulled chicken. Instead you have 6 BBQ condiments you can test out at the table. I would prefer it if they had an option to have marinated pulled meats. Super fast service! By the time my credit card chip went through, my food was already done. Wow! Overall, this will not be on my places to try again because the price point and value wasn't enough for me to want to give it another go. I ate here recently and was glad I stopped in. I had previously eaten at one of their Virginia locations with less amazing results, but this location has their act together. I was there in the middle of the lunch rush, right at high noon. Despite a full dining room and a line almost to the door, they kept the line moving. I was greeted with a smile and it seemed that everyone working there had a great attitude. The dining room and bathrooms were clean, and the kitchen looked to be in pretty good shape (not something you'd expect during the lunch rush). I ordered 1/2 pound of pulled pork and 1/2 pound of brisket. Waaay too much food for me but I like to make bad decisions like that. I also included a side of Mac & Cheese. The pulled pork was as good as any I've experienced anywhere -- perhaps the best I've ever had. Juicy, tender, and very flavorful. The brisket was good and smokey, and tender as well (in the top 3 for the DC area). The Mac & Cheese was good, but nothing out of the ordinary there. The corn bread they serve on the side is very good as well. Free wifi let me get a little work done while I was eating. This part of town has a real shortage of good places to eat. I'm thankful to have Mission BBQ here and I'll most certainly be back. read more

The meats are pretty good here, and I like trying out the different sauces because they're all so distinctive. Every time I give them another try with the side dishes, though, I'm always disappointed. It seems like there's nothing that isn't full of onions and/or cheese and just mediocre. Ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich with fries (handcut, obvi the best) and a piece of cornbread. Bf ordered the ribs with mac n cheese and oh my gahhhd everything was so delicious. Perfectly seasoned. And the 6 sauce options were all so different and so delicious! The old bay BBQ is an interesting twist on a MD classic. We also appreciated the decor of the restaurant which really made it feel like home. It honors our police & fire fighters and is all around American. Pretty awesome to see Moco & PG badges around the restaurant. Super friendly service too- I'm so happy they just opened one up in Rockville because I'll be there very soon!! read more

Decent BBQ in not a decent location. The place could have stranded a wipe down. Almost all the table were dirty. Took me a while to finally just cut my losses and sit down.
