This restaurant deserves all five stars! As soon as I walked I felt ver welcomed. I was greeted and shown where to go to order my food. The cashier was also very pleasant and helpful because my family have never been there before. The menu was a little confusing but like I said the cashier directed us in the right direction. Our meal came out in a timely manner. I ordered the beef brisket dinner. It came with a side and cornbread. I got fries and didn't care too much for the cornbread. My brisket was delicious! Very moist and flavorful! I didn't think I was going to get full off of my meal, but I did. Worth every penny! The customer service was amazing! The ribs were horrible. They looked like they had been baking in the oven all day and not smoked. FYI-falling off the bone is not want you want in ribs when they have been smoked or grilled. You should have some pull to them. This was a great replacement to the ABC that was here before MIssion BBQ. I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't very busy. It's clean and features the traditional Mission BBQ theme. I ordered the moist brisket with sides of mac' n' cheese and coleslaw. The brisket was smoked well and paired amazing with all the sauces that Mission offers. The ma 'n' cheese was pretty good even better with a little bbq sauce. The coleslaw wasn't overdressed and tasted fresh. The corn bread was just a little dry but still was tasty. Less than a couple of days ago, my husband and I decided to eat at the Mission BBQ location near the Beltway Plaza mall in Greenbelt Maryland because of our previous experiences with enjoying the food. I called to ask if we can pickup the order earlier than planned and they were friendly with adjusting to a pickup order during their busy lunch time. We arrived to a hopping and friendly atmosphere. Great decor celebrating our military academies, first responders, and veterans. They had everything ready for us on time and each container labeled. I went here after a UMD football game and was surprised to find a decent barbecue place in the college park area. The food was good and priced well. Upon walking in and ordering our meal, there was one employee who really stood out to me. He was very attentive and showed exemplary service to us.....Kenny aka "Popcorn" was his name. We stood out like tired hungry tourists as our party was wearing California gear, flip flops, sunglasses with our stomachs aching to be fed. When our order was called, Kenny helped bring us our trays and also had foresight to bring us utensils! What a blessing that was as we were famished! Popcorn didn't just stop with us, throughout our meal, Popcorn was busy taking other customers their trays and busy bussing tables much faster and more efficiently than anyone else! This behavior caught my attention as I truly enjoy great food...but even more?....great service! Popcorn would come by consistently to swoop our empty trays with the remains of our finished BBQ only to come back to take more finished trays from us! By the time we were all done eating, it seemed like we were never there as our table was clean from Kenny constantly dropping by. It's tough to find good barbecue in this area, especially after KBQ went downhill after their move, but Mission BBQ is great. It is a chain, but local - only in MD. Mission BBQ has a patriotic theme, featuring and supporting military and first responders, which carries through to their playing of the national anthem throughout the restaurant, every day right at noon. The people working there are really helpful, friendly, and they come by and check on your throughout your meal, which is unusual for a fast-casual type of place. Everything I've had there is delicious. The meats have the right smokey flavor, aren't dry, and portions are pretty generous. The pulled chicken and turkey are especially good because they are well-seasoned, as well as being perfectly smoked and cooked. The cole slaw is great for a side, not too sweet, and with a light dressing. You get a lot of flavor options because there are six styles of BBQ sauce, plus a NC vinegar BBQ sauce, and some daily special sauces. So far my favorites are the Bay-B-Que (with Old Bay) and the Tupelo Honey Heat (sweet/hot), although I hope they'll create a hotter sauce at some point to add to the selection. Besides iced tea, sweet tea, lemonade, and fountain soda, they have a cooler full of many throwback and regional bottled sodas (RC Cola, Nehi, Cheerwine, etc.) which is pretty fun. They have a gluten free menu that includes a lot of their regular menu items, over half of the sauces, and all of the meats. This restaurant just opened a week ago and I'm so excited because there aren't that many good quick service restaurants in the area. I figured that it would be super busy, so my co-workers and I called ahead to put in a take-out order. When I got there, the line was out the door. The good thing is that they have a specific register to the left of all of the rest of the registers, specifically for take out. Unfortunately, ordering take-out appears to take longer than actually standing in line and placing your order when you get there. There were 2 people ahead of me and it took me about 20 minutes to get to the register. When I got there, my food wasn't ready and then I had to wait for that. Not a big deal, but I'm sure if someone was in a rush, it could be very frustrating. While I was waiting in line, there was an employee walking around with samples of meat and brownies. Great service recovery! Also to make note, they play the Star Spangled Banner at noon and everything stops until the song is completed. Let's talk about the food. It is delicious! I had the pulled pork with a side of Mac n Cheese. Yum!! The meat was very well cooked and moist. The mac n cheese was perfectly cheesy. I also love the variety of bbq sauces. This was the first time I went to this restaurant based on the massive positive reviews and they were right. The staff was very friendly and pro-active even when the restaurant was packed during lunch hour. The cut beef brisket I had was very good and the portion size was larger than I expected for the price. The only problem I have is the over salting of the fries. I have the hardest time understanding why this place got 5 star??? Bf and I tried three items on the menu: ribs, moist brisket, and sausage, none of which was good. The moist brisket, ironically, was the driest brisket I've ever had. The sausage was dry, rubbery, and not at all smoky goodness of how good sausages are supposed to taste. Their ribs were probably the better items among what we've tasted but the they were meh, edible, and nothing worth remembering. Actually this was my first time at any of the Mission BBQ places and I was pleasantly surprised. I was kinda expecting something else but the experience was great. The ambiance is military veteran oriented and the seating is spacious and roomy. I guess this is another of the "fast, casual" places. Not exactly fast food but you order and pick up from a somewhat limited menu (it's a BBQ place, after all). I had the brisket which is offered "lean or moist" which I took to mean with or without fat. I took the lean. It was a tad dry but tasty. The tables have six different sauces to put on the meat and they definitely add to to taste of the meat. The sides are tasty (baked beans for me) and the corn bread was good. It was the first day for their beef rib special with a limited quantity due to beef ribs are not a usual menu item. It was huge with awesome flavor; you could cut it with a fork, through inches of meat. This place is awesome! So far I have had the brisket, which was moist and delicious, and the chicken which was amazing! The meat was tender and moist and the bbq sauce options were great! And, the sides are great as well, the Mac and cheese is some of the best I've had from a bbq joint. The only reason I have 4 stars is the price. For a "whole chicken" which is an order of 2 halves because they don't do whole, and 2 medium sides was $36. The food and sides are great but it's not economical to feed a whole family, the chicken is big but the sides are too expensive when buying large sides. However I wouldn't want the quality to go down to put prices down :(. I wish they had a dinner deal for a few bucks cheaper or a free side.
