Was actually headed to First Watch for some soup but the line was 20 people deep so I walked over to Mission BBQ. The barbecue meats smelled so good but as I have to fit into a tuxedo in two weeks I opted for the lighter salmon entree with a side salad. The salmon wasn't bad but a little on the salty side, it came with cornbread which was meh. The side salad was the generic run of the mill type made with iceberg lettuce. It was ok. I feel like I got ripped-off. The food, brisket, chicken and ribs were excellent. But I feel I was over charged and when I went back to the cashier was not given an understandable answer. My confusion was due to a receipt that was not fully readable (image attached). Because I was not given an answer that I understood I asked my guest to talk with them. He did not get an understandable answer. It appears I was overcharged by $2.95. Not much but I'm a 93% disabled vet (am only compensated for 90%) so this 2 sandwich and 2 rib $30 plus meal for me and the kind helper I have for my disabilities to honor my grandfather that died in the D day invasion for Memorial Day weekend was a big expense. I revisited twice lately, the first time was really good and the second was ok but to be honest a little inconsistent. I always order the salmon, so I don't have an opinion on any of their other proteins. The salmon was perfect the first time, the second time one order was over seasoned and the other was good. My fiancé and I were absolutely impressed with Mission BBQ. This was our first time visiting this location and we were very pleased with our food and service. Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing we noticed was all of the pictures and memorabilia on the walls. My fiancé and I love that the restaurant is a strong military establishment (my dad served in the Air Force for 20+ years). There is plenty of inside seating and they do have a front patio with multiple picnic tables. I ordered their pulled pork sandwich (NC style-with cole slaw) with a side of Mac and cheese. My fiancé also ordered their pulled pork sandwich (regular) with a side of fries. We each ordered an XL combo and paid about $22 total. Both of our sandwiches tasted delicious! Each table also offered 6 different BBQ sauces (we LOVE the Smokey Mountain sauce). My mac and cheese tasted homemade, which was a plus! Once the order is ready you'll be called to pick it up at the end of the counter. There's an area to grab your necessary condiments and fill your cups with soft drinks. I was very pleased with the atmosphere. This place is certainly considerate of the military and I liked the country music playing on the stereo. I went with the two meat sampler with brisket and pulled pork. I received four decently thick, but narrow, slices of brisket and a fair sampling of pork. It didn't take me long to finish off the meat by any means. What impressed me the most was the variety of sauces. They had eight available from many different areas of the country. Memphis, KC, Texas, Baltimore, Georgia, West Virginia. I liked the Texas sauce and the Old Bay sauces on the brisket. The Georgia mustard was pretty good on the pork too. The meats themselves were fine, though I like a little more bark and spice on my brisket. Along with the meats, I ordered two sides. The mac and cheese had a nice cheesy crust top. The cole slaw was a mix of vinegar and mayo and it was decent, but a little sour. I think next time I'd do the beans. The meal included a piece of cornbread, but when it came to me, it was burnt on the side and the bottom. I mentioned it to Kristen, one of the workers, and she brought me a fresh piece that was cooked better and also warmer in temperature. Very good customer service. Nonetheless, the cornbread was still a little dry and I just am not a fan of kernels in my cornbread. Lemonade, sweet tea, and unsweet tea are all on tap, and they have a good variety of beer available, including some local brews. As a BBQ place I would most likely give this place a 3 based just on the quality of the BBQ and the price. But I think it's only fair to judge Mission as a fast casual restaurant in which case it would get a 4. The Brisket is my usual, and it is moist and has some good flavor, but not nearly as much smokey flavor as you would expect from brisket at a really good BBQ joint. The corn bread is sweat and dry crumbly which is not at all my personal preference, and the fries are pretty middle of the road. The mac and cheese was above average for a fast casual side. It was both creamy and cheesy which would seem like a no brainier mac and cheese. But I am constantly surprised how often mac and cheese is dry and clumpy. The tables also offer an 6 pack of semi-diverse sauces which greatly increases the likelihood of there being a bbq sauce that does a good job of fitting your taste. Overall the prices are a little higher than other fast casual places, but the emphasis on meat heavy entrees will do that. And the staff at this mission were polite, cheerful, and curious. If you are looking for a fast causal chain in Hampton I would suggest giving this mission a try! read more

Honestly, never been a huge turkey fan. Doesn't seem to matter what's done to it, that bird is dry as the desert! Not so for this place. The turkey is amazing! I don't typically start a review with the food I like the most, but the turkey here is so astronomical, it needs mentioned right out of the gate! I have never had turkey so moist and tender in my life. Mission bbq is the only bbq place I will eat at anymore. It's not super cheap but you get what you pay for. My husband and I often split the three meat platter and still have leftovers! The sausage also deserve mention. I've not had the regular but the jalapeño cheese is amaze-balls! One last thing, I have a son with celiac disease. It makes it almost impossible to go out to eat. Even if they offer gluten free items, some places are so nonchalant it's hard to be comfortable. This is my 2nd time here and besides the food being great, the warmth you feel while I'm here is amazing. Everyone is extremely nice and they all maintain a smile. Even if I was not hungry, I would probably come in here for a sweet tea and sit so I can soak in the welcoming feeling you get while here.
