The service was 5 star. We walked in and had no clue what we were getting into. One of the employees greeted us and asked if we had even been there. After we replied with a negative they then proceeded to give us a sample of every possible selection of meat they had. That says a lot for a business to let you try before you commit. This place is AWESOME! Upon walking in my friends & I were asked if it was our first visit. With that being so, we were given samples of the different meats. We all decided on sandwiches. I myself ordered the lean brisket sandwich with a side of fries. The meat was moist & I loved that the fries were fresh & hand cut. Along with the amazing food they have a variety of bbq sauces. My favorites were the Tupelo Honey & the Smoky Mountain mixed together. To add to all this, we were welcomed & hosted by the nicest woman, Miss Myra. The inside is nice and clean, the staff is helpful and nice, but I don't think I would go back based on the prices. The salmon I had was good, nothing special and the cornbread and mac n cheese I had with it wasn't anything to brag about. I don't think I will be returning. They periodically bring out new dishes throughout the year and their service is exceptionally swift for a non-fast food place. Nice place as far as the building. Food was just average. It may be Texas inspired but not Texas style. Every sauce has sweet in the description. I asked for chopped brisket but got big chunks. The bun was very fancy and cold. Overall just not a chopped brisket sandwich. The girl taking orders was more interested in flirting with the guys in front of me that had already ordered. This was the last place I stopped by before leaving North Carolina, and I'm very glad I did. This places makes GOOD BBQ, all for a good price. They are quick with their service, allowing you to eat on the go or dine in. They have a variety of different sauces, all which are amazing. I love the atmosphere and vibe of this place, especially because it is Jacksonville and we are near a USMC base. I really wanted to fall in love with this place. Our family loves smoked BBQ but hates the time spent on it. The customer service is too notch! You can sample some of their meats before ordering! There's a kind lady that goes around offering to refill your drinks and making sure all is well. Let's get down to the food. Their cornbread is heavenly!!!! Omg!! The best cornbread I've ever tasted is right der! I could eat batches of this stuff! However their other food leaves much to desire. Maybe it's just my preference, but I felt the dry rub was just too strong. The flavors overwhelmed the natural smoky flavors from the wood. While the ribs were moist, the dry rub was so strong, you couldn't enjoy the meat. Your taste senses are overloaded. Same with the salmon, the spices overwhelmed it so much that you couldn't tell what kind of fish it was. On top of it, the filet was dry dry dry! I did mention this to the sweet lady who kept coming by and she did offer to replace it but I just felt that anything else I order would have the same overwhelming flavors. I had to scrape off the dry rub for the kids and me to make it more palatable. Maybe my palate is used to more bland or delicate flavors... but it's just too much for me. I will order a ridiculous order of cornbread though :) read more

This place is so good. Classic pulled pork piled high. They give you big servings. They have a plethora of sauces to choose from to put on whatever you get. There is chicken, pork, sausage, brisket, etc. It's all good. The customer service is always fantastic. I love the relaxed, down home atmosphere. You can grab a glass bottle of soda from a big ice bin or choose from fountain soda, iced tea and lemonade. Goodness. I am not a huge bbq person, but this place was wicked delicious. Even the chicken; which is typically an afterthought at a bbq joint, was the best chicken I have ever had at such an establishment. The potato salad was awesome, which again, I usually think homemade is the only way to go, but their's was perfect. The only thing that didn't stand out was the brisket. It tasted more like a Sunday roast, which is good, but not what you're hoping for when eating brisket. We would absolutely go here anytime we're visiting the area. read more
