Was at a Marine event that had Mission BBQ catered and it was excellent! Having just had pulled pork the day prior, I opted for the Sausage. There are two types of sausage, jalapeno & cheese and original. Both were Very Good, but I definitely favored the spicy and cheesy sausage. In addition, tried their sides of Mac & Cheese and Green Beans. Both were prepared properly southern and it was hard to control myself from gorging. I heard the Pulled Pork was excellent, but didn't get to try it. Also, Kudos to an establishment that is supportive of military troops. read more

She was friendly, very very patient as it was our first time, and informative (thanks for the brisket by the way!) Next, probably about the fastest service I've ever experienced. From the time we placed our order (we were a party of four) until we received our food was MAYBE 5 minutes. Lastly, the food itself was great tasting. Displace totally surprise me after passing barbecue spot at the barbecue spot I stumbled across this one next to the Starbucks where I normally grab a mint mocha macchiato I decide to give it a shot. I parked and walked in right away the rustic cowboy wild Wild West feel. First time eating here. Visiting while bringing my Marine for MCT. I LOVED it. Wonderful sauce selection. I had the white sauce with the pulled chicken, the mustard sauce with the jalapeno and cheddar sausage, and one of the regular ones with the brisket as suggested by the manager. My daughter and her boyfriend had the pulled pork sandwiches. I had the green beans with bacon and cheesy potatoes. It was all heavenly!! The staff is AMAZING. I had the pulled pork and traditional sausage with fries and corn bread. Everything was very good, to include their sauces. When it came to ordering the catering it was simple and easy. Since first hearing of this chain I've been wanting to try them. We have one in Virginia Beach but other than work I try to avoid that city like the plague so while in town for a funeral we found this location pretty quiet on a Friday at 2pm. We had a bit of a learning curve but the folks were very helpful and easy on us Mission virgins. I'm a ribs lover and decided on the 5 ribs combo with fries and a to go of peach cobbler. I was super impressed with the fall off the bone, immensely tender ribs but I couldn't find a BBQ sauce to my liking. No worries though as the dry rub was perfectly tasty. I should have gone with a different side as I'm not really into natural cut ones but they do give you A LOT! Cornbread was good. Not great but good. The chewy bits of corn was different. This is a place i would have really like to have eaten in doors at. However the pandemic prevented, so take it was. We took our take out back to a picnic area near the water on Camp Lejeune. Mission BBQ truly honors vets here. The decor would have kept me mesmerized for days. Being from New York i am not too versed in Carolina BBQ but this place is going to be on my must stop list every time we will visit our daughter. My family and I enjoy going to Mission BBQ for a meal. The pork bbq has a delicious flavor and is always fresh. The staff is courteous and helpful, and the restaurant is clean. I would love to give Mission "5 Stars", however their over use of spice (heat) in some of their dishes is what has them falling short for our family; and their smoked meats aren't for everyone. Let me explain: We are a family with three small children, I try to make choices for them that are not always involving a potato or pasta when we eat out; and each time we come, I know my kids will only eat fries and Mac N Cheese. Why not order a vegetable or meat source you might ask... well whenever I order a vegetable here, whether for them or myself, they are unnecessarily seasoned with red pepper and black pepper/salt and my children can not tolerate that much spice/heat. I was raised that if you want salt, pepper, and/or red pepper flakes on your food, you add it yourself. Take the green beans--Green beans are a go-to "finger food" for many parents of young children, as is pasta and fries (but much easier on the digestive system). But these here are too spicy for my little ladies-and they have no problem eating medium salsas and Indian food.... I'm sure many of our local service members enjoy that kind of heat (my husband certainly does), but they are also old enough to season their own food. Have you tried the collard greens? Even I have to pass and collards are my absolute favorite veggie. Mission's dish of collards is more like a spicy soup. Ever ordered the kids chicken sliders? The meat is so smoky that my kids won't touch it; I didn't like it either, so I don't blame them. The oldest is starting to like the pork, but not enough to eat more than a bite or two. I just wish there was another option besides French Fries and Mac n Cheese for small children. If there were, we would probably frequent more often. read more

Mission BBQ is the best BBQ place I have been at in North Carolina. The entire restaurant is covered in military, law enforcement and fire fighting memorabilia such a pictures and unit patches. When you walk into the restaurant you instantly feel like family. If its your first time or if you can't deicide what you want, they give you samples of the different meats (pictured). It helps make the decision so much easier or more difficult because they are all delicious. While eating there is a staff member walking around, helping, suggesting sauces, getting refills, or clearing tables. It is so amazing to go somewhere that feels like home, with food that tastes better than home! We go at least once a week and will continue to do so! read more
