Went to Mission BBQ with my family after shopping at the Outlets. There was plenty of parking and it was definitely a perfect place for a big group. We walked in and all sat in a big booth. Our food came out nice and hot. The give a generous portion! What everyone enjoyed was the variety of BBQ sauce you can pick from. I got the brisket and pulled pork with a side of mac and cheese. All of my choice were yummy! My favorite sauce is the Memphis bbq sauce. The place was so clean and spotless. It was an overall great experience for my family that came to visit from out of town! We're from the left coast and after a lengthy day of shopping at the nearby outlet mall we needed food, and we were determined for it to be BBQ. Our daughter has lived in the area (Norfolk) for a year or so and had never tried it so off we went! Three of us split the 2 meat sampler (brisket/pulled pork), 5 ribs, and 3 sides (collard greens, baked beans, cold slaw (yes, "cold slaw"). The total was more than reasonable and when I picked up the order I thought I figured out why. I thought for sure we'd be ordering more food. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING was out of this world delicious. However, I was right!! We HAD to order more food. Peach Cobbler for dessert! Please DO NOT pass by the peach cobbler. I love this place. I never would've tried it if it wasn't for my boss buying all the department heads lunch. The pulled chicken is super flavorful with that great smoke flavor and the fries....they're top 3 of all the fries I ever tasted. They're addicting! The macaroni and cheese was good too, I have to admit I was skeptical but I truly enjoy eating here. I eat here at least twice a week. It's somewhat pricey but really worth it. Some Buddies and I stop at Mission BBQ from time to time just as a quick get together. We stopped at Mission BBQ at Lake Wright in Norfolk, VA and I have to say it was the best one I have been to. The food was awesome. Mission BBQ usually has good food but this location was better than usual. The staff was very friendly and polite and asked what we were celebrating, probably because there were 8 of us. I told them just a bunch of guys getting together, most of which were military at one time. They checked on us a couple of times and asked how everything was. When we were all done eating and just hanging out conversing they brought us some desserts and thanked us. Mission BBQ is not only delicious food, but it's an incredible experience The decor is a celebration to the men and women of our military, as well as police officers and first responders. As we were taking it all in, everything stopped at noon, as the staff and customers (us included) paused to sing our national anthem. My husband and I were overwhelmed with emotions as we both experienced goosebumps! The food was EXCELLENT! We loved the smoked pastrami, and the collard greens were good to the last sip! The brisket sandwich was hearty and tasty with dips of tangy sauces! The employees were friendly and knowledgeable of the smoking process. The GM, Jess, was welcoming and kind. With that said, when you're seeking great tasting barbeque fast, there's no need to put a lot of thought into it - Mission BBQ is the place to go! Today, I had the Pulled Chicken Sandwich XXL Combo (2 sides & drink) with green beans and Cheesy Baked potatoes. The pulled chicken was piled high and tender. It's great to eat either Carolina Style with the vinegar they have available or with any one of six BBQ sauces. The sides were full of flavor - the beans perfectly seasoned with pork bits and onion; the cheesy baked potatoes were rich and of course cheesy much like a potatoes au gratin casserole. Whenever here, I always go for their lemonade. It's got a nice balance of sweet and tart. I appreciate that they provide "home style" lemonade versus the fountain drink version. Great job! I had this place for the very first time and I was so amazed at how flavorful the meat was and I loved every single sauce choice

First time eating there and I enjoyed it. I notice the military and first responder decorations all around which is very nice. The service is average, which means to me that they take your order, and you wait until they call you. The wait for the food didn't take long for it being a weekday when my family went. The food was absolutely what I wanted, but I will say that the beans and Mac and cheese probably could be improved. Other than the sides, the shredded pork was what I was focused on, and it tasted great. I liked the selection of bbq sauces they had with the Smokey sauce being my favorite. Growing up a country girl in small town NC social time was often going to pig pickings that friends families would put together. I was totally overwhelmed at the menu board at the counter. So hubby suggested I order their pulled pork sammie. I asked the cashier if they carried the NC vinegar based sauce. She told me that they "didn't" have sauce. It turns out that the sauces are set on the tables and this being our first visit here or any of their locations, we didn't know that the sauces were on the tables already. No big deal, but the cashier could have been more clear in her communication skills. That's were they lost a star. The wildest thing was at noon The Star Spangle Banner started playing, everyone already dining stands up with their hand on their chests facing the televisions as the National flag is on screen! How awesome is that?!? The decorations, they definitely pay respect to the military as well as first responders! An A plus in my grade book! And the restaurant is super clean and well organized. The food came out, hubby looked at my sammie, then at me then back to the sammie only to suggest that I get a fork! It wasn't just a BBQ sammie, it was a double handed, open mouth, unhinge jaw after smashing the sammie down and insert into mouth kind of big sammie! Great pulled pork with decent servings. The restaurant does not have order service at the table but the waiters will come around to fill your drinks and take your plates. They have a cool military vib for all the wall decor. Excellent sweet tea. I tried the Mission BBQ food truck at my work place several times but this is my first visit to the restaurant. The restaurant is much better than the mobile food truck. I highly recommend the restaurant. read more

A great BBQ experience! I typically consider myself quite picky when it comes to BBQ and this made the top of the list. I loved everything I chose. Mac & cheese was creamy, Turkey was tender, beans- simply delicious, and the corn bread was perfect. Big events like weddings and graduations and anniversaries in my family are celebrated by throwing a whole hog on a pig roaster with our family's special Carolina vinegar based sauce. So when several people insisted I needed to try the brisket at Mission BBQ, I will admit I was a little hesitant. Beef doesn't equal BBQ in my mind and I love trying new places for pulled pork. So glad I went out of my comfort zone and tried the brisket. It was moist and delicious. I enjoyed mixing up my own sauce from the multiple options on each table. Four stars because sides are overpriced for the size of the portion.
