Got seated very promptly and my waitress helped me log onto their free wifi to catch up on some work! My wife and I had just finished working out and wanted to get a quick bite because we didn't want to go home and cook. So we decided to go to Mission City Grill in Santa Clara. We've been going there a long time and hadn't been there in awhile. It's clean spacious and the service was excellent. One thing I really like is that they serve breakfast all day long. The portions are good and the food is pretty good. We split an avacado and mushroom omelet with country potatoes and it was delicious. I broke down and had to have dessert. Pumpkin pie with whipped cream, caramel drizzle and a side of vanilla ice cream!! They have a good selection with a variety of entrees including vegetarian options. Met up with a couple of friends from high school. One of them suggested this place and it did not disappoint. From the servers who greeted us upon entering to the food to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, well, what can I say? Awesome! When our orders came, our eyes literally bugged out! The portions could feed a small army! All four of us couldn't finish our food and took home substantial doggie bags. Don't get me wrong, though. We have been going to this restaurant for years and every single time the food and service are outstanding. Once in awhile we get takeout, and I can say that the takeout quality is as good as dining in. Staff is amazing. Some of the servers have been here for so long and they all still have a great attitude. Lastly, I hate overcooked eggs. The service was good and my server was a very sweet older woman. I ordered the corned beef eggs Benedict and I loved every bite. As a reply to the guy complaining about being served canned corned beef, it's something I typically expect from breakfast spots and actually prefer because I like crispy edges. For him to be pissy about his breakfast corned beef coming from a can is actually ridiculous. Anyway, I also enjoyed that the English muffins were delicate yet still sturdy enough to act as a base. Came to try their brunch food (served all day by the way), and left thinking about our next visit to try their other non-brunch food options as well since their brunch was so awesome! Favorite pancakes as a side yet from any brunch place I've been to. Traditional Benedict - pretty standard benedict; perfectly poached eggs and yummy hollandaise sauce. Gilroy Garlic Fries - crispy, crunchy, garlicky fries didn't disappoint! Comes with ranch but I thought the fries were plenty flavorful enough. Loved this as well. It was freshly made, surprisingly it was crispy on the outside (was expecting soft) and fluffy on the inside. Very delicious, highly recommend trying it while it is still crispy, after a few mins the pancakes becomes soft on the outside, and the batter starts to stick to the mouth. So enjoy while its fresh! I've been coming to Mission City Grill for years! It's always been great--big portion sizes, affordable prices, and consistently good food. I've never been let down here. We got the garlic fries--probably some of the best I've ever had. They add a ton of garlic with amazing flavor, and they're not too salty. Only $10 for a very generous portion. 10/10. We also got the country fried steak--pretty standard, but it comes with pancakes, which I think are some of the best in town. They're not too soft like Denny's or IHOP--perfectly balanced between firm and fluffy. The portions are great, and at just $20, it's basically two meals for me. 10/10. We tried the Florentine omelet--again, pretty standard since breakfast food is hard to mess up. It also comes with pancakes, but we opted for waffles instead for an extra $2. Not worth it--the waffles were too firm. I'd recommend sticking with the pancakes since they're included at no extra cost. $19. 8/10. The service is always great, and the ambiance is nice with plenty of seating. It's important that we get our items fast because we can't be late to pick up our kids (lol). Their drinks and food are reasonably priced. I was surprised that they made my old fashioned perfectly like the ones I get from professional bar. I haven't had much of their food items, but I do like their soups and my friends said the salad and pancakes were good plus big portion. At the end of the meal, the waitress came by and announced the total of our bill as seen on her hand-held device. i thought that was weird. This doesn't allow you time to figure out the tip and to see if everything was priced correctly. I know that some restaurants have it on the digital display at the table, but this in the waitress's hand, and she's standing there waiting for the credit card. Two of us went to Mission City Grill for Saturday brunch. We walked in and were immediately seated, and someone came by and took our drink order right away, followed shortly by someone else ready to take our food order. The service was good, and several times staff stopped by to check on us. I wanted a latte and was disappointed to discover that they have no non-dairy milk options. This place was founded in the 1950's and seems to still be stuck there. Losing the ability to process lactose is very common as we age, (especially for people of color) so most places have options. I figured I'd just have a cup of coffee instead, but they don't even have the little non-dairy creamer cups that most places have. They just have one of those stainless steel pictures of milk on each table. Probably been sitting there all morning. No thank you! The food was good with lots to choose from, but the portions were ridiculously huge. Both of us struggled to finish about half of what we were served. The place itself is clean, with an old school diner vibe, and pretty loud. There's also outside tables, that would be quieter. This place is surprisingly expensive. 2 brunch specials, 2 coffees, $74. We were seated immediately, got our orders in, and our food was served to us within 20 minutes. The atmosphere can get loud especially when the place is busy, but it's still cozy with a lot of seating. I got the avocado toast, which has goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, egg whites, and bacon. Pancakes were delicious but the two family members that got one corn beef Benedict and corn beef hashbrown combo ended up going to the hospital for food poisoning. They thought it was just food coma symptoms, but it was definitely something with the food as that was the only meal they have had. Portions are normal for a Benedict and price is competitive with similar restaurants. Our waitress Magdalena C was very friendly, attentive and professional and gave to us a few tips about when it's a good time to go in weekend and weeks days. came to MCG today to have breakfast with my boyfriend and his aunt, who have been coming to this place for nearly 8 years, and this is the first time we've ever had an experience that left a bad taste in our mouths. the food was good as always, but our server was the one who made our breakfast unenjoyable. we didn't catch his name, but he was a tall Latino male with glasses. he rushed us the entire time and made us feel like we were bothering him. he asked if we needed boxes while we were still clearly eating, and when it was time to pay, he shouted at both me and his aunt because the Toast POS system was acting up and we didn't understand whether we were supposed to tap to pay or not. you can most certainly shout at me if you want, but by no means should you ever shout at an elderly woman. that was completely unnecessary. we'll definitely be coming back because the food is always great and the rest of the staff have always been kind, but we will absolutely be avoiding this server from now on. read more
