I love this place. As a midwest girl, this place brings a little sense of home to California. Its Modernized rustic appeal has such great energy and allows you to relax and have a drink in peace. Plus...the food is amazing!! The tomato soup with grilled cheese is a must. They can make you any drink and their staff is so friendly. I am and will always be a fan of The Hut.

Very underwhelming. For starters, you have to order up front, get your own water, pick up your own drinks at the bar, etc. That's fine by me but it would still be nice to get greeted when I enter as it was my first time and was standing there unsure what to do. If you want BBQ, this is not the place. I think you can see the $19 tri tip sandwich as it speaks for itself. It was the size of my hand. The cocktails were also a joke for $12. I finished it in two sips. I saw other people getting served in actual glasses while ours were in plastic cups, and filled with crush ice. What was that about? The patio closed because of an event so bunch of people were in the small inside with the sun beaming. We had to switch our table three times bc we thought the outside was open and then someone took our table, which was our faults, then the only other available table was in the middle of the bar and register so people were standing in line hovering over us. I personally was not a fan and would not return for all those points mentioned. There is little parking and it's a college crowd with lack of diversity, which is fine I guess. I think I'll go elsewhere next time I'm looking for a BBQ spot. Giving two stars because the wings were alright for the price.

This place was alright! I wish they also had brunch on weekdays since we came on a Friday morning hoping for some yummy breakfast. We ended up doing some shareables and a mimosa - the buffalo cauliflower bites and fries were really tasty and had good flavors. Service was also good and the outdoor seating was cute! Hoping to come back for brunch sometime.

During our lunch break at a symposium held at Santa Clara University on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Joanna, Ray, Dustin, and I stopped by The Hut shortly before 1 PM for some drinks and bites. Located across the street from Lucas Hall, The Hut is a convenient spot for attendees of the university. If you're lucky, you can score free timed street parking in front of Lucas Hall. The venue is about the size of a small cottage with an outdoor covered seating area that appears equal in size as the indoor dining area. Indoor décor is simple with concrete floors, some tables, booths, and counter seating. The place was clean everywhere, including the women's restroom when we were there. My stomach was feeling a bit sensitive on the day of our visit, so, unlike my friends, I passed on alcohol and opted for a glass of iced water and an order of FRIES. We ended up ordering two rounds of everything, including the potato snack that we shared. The FRIES ($5 per order) were served fresh, piping hot, & perfectly crisp, but SALTY. Yes, both servings had too much salt for my taste. Service was fast and friendly. Considering that our annual symposium is held at the same place every year and we haven't been fond of the lunches, we will likely return. I wouldn't drive out specifically to return here, it's just a quick and convenient spot to hit up during recess.

Pulled chicken sandwich and onion rings

Located right outside of Santa Clara university, parking is difficult to find. Most of the customers here are the university students. The ambiance is noisy and loud. The decorations are quite festive and fun. I ordered Pulled chicken sandwich (3/5): dry. Average sandwich. Nothing special. Onion rings (3/5): quite crunchy but not crunchy enough. Pretty average onion ring. Despite my average ratings, this place is by no means bad. It's a fast food place for some average American food. Good price to food ratio. Google/apple pay is accepted. Overall, The Hut is a decent place for some American fast food. Unfortunately I wouldn't come back here.

As a Santa Clara University student, I love The Hut! It's perfect for happy hour from 3 PM to 6 PM. Conveniently located next to campus, it offers great indoor and outdoor seating, making it ideal for bringing my dogs. I always enjoy their ciders on tap, but their cocktails, especially the pomegranate mule, are fantastic too. The food is excellent; the new fried pickles are a must-try, and the fries and sandwiches are to die for--definitely worth the price! It's a fun spot to grab a bite and drinks with friends. I cannot recommend this place enough. Plus, it's not just for university students; it attracts a diverse crowd, including many locals, especially in the summer!

This use to be the SCU watering hole, I guess not anymore. Haven't been here since pre-Covid, was totally shocked at the remodel. Not a fan. Was there visiting the school, thought lunch at the Hut for old times' sake was a good idea. Apparently not. They ran out of lettuce (1pm?), I don't know how you run a kitchen and run out lettuce, but sure. Had the worst mac and cheese of my life. It was watery, cold and the parsimoniously placed cheese was unmelted. I was impressed. How do you F up mac and cheese? And the dollar to quantity ratio was obscene. The little cup maybe had a 2" radius? Ten bucks? Seriously? Truffle fries without even a hint of truffle. Wow. Brussel sprouts with bacon...bacon isn't even listed on the menu. Wonderful, can't eat it at all cause I can't do pork. It was also nuked to high heavens. Feel free to check out the carbon content from my picture. Also took ages to get out food. Wow, you want to compete in 2023 with this kinda food and beverage strategy? Good luck.

Great food & drink! Fun tap beer options, and a good happy hour. Casual and great for college students and visitors.

It was the perfect spot to enjoy the fresh air and made for a really relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant has a great vibe overall, especially if you're looking for an outdoor brunch. (Have not been inside) I ordered the steak chilaquiles, and I'd give them a 8.5/10. The flavors were really good, the sauce was delicious, and I liked the addition of the eggs, avocado, and queso. My only complaint was the steak. I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium well, a bit dry and was tougher than expected, making it difficult to cut. It was still tasty--just not cooked quite the way I was hoping. The mimosas were good too, a great value. Nothing that really stood out as amazing, but definitely nothing bad about them either--they got the job done. What really elevated the experience was the service. Our server Rebecca was attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly quick throughout the meal. They checked in at the right times, answered our questions confidently, and made us feel well taken care of without ever being overbearing. Overall, I'd come back, especially to sit on the patio again. With a more tender steak, this meal would've easily been an 8.5 or 9 out of 10!! :)

We hit the Brunch hour and the place was rocking. We were able to sit right down amazingly. There is a fabulous patio to people watch and enjoy the California weather. Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. Loved the potato roll they used all round a killer sandwich. Going a little outside the box we tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The pineapple slaw with this amazing peppery chutney type sauce played so well with the acid of the pineapple. Another must have sandwich. I ask you how can you go to a new restaurant and not have some dessert. With everything else being so good our expectations were pretty high and we were not disappointed. The Giant Profiterole is exactly that GIANT and stuffed with White Chocolate Gelato and Hot Chocolate Sauce that you can drizzle over the top. To fricken die for good. If you are in Willow Glen and you don't stop here you are missing out on something wonderful. Be kind to one another

I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat. But there's a handful of reviews noting frustrating delays... and that needs to be worked on.

Not my personal cup of tea, but they do also offer sake and a few beers also. The first time we went, we ordered the arancini, bucatini, and the heritage pork katsu. I am a big advocate for trying new things every time I go to a restaurant, but it was so good I ordered the same thing the second time I went. Arancini is flavored with Japanese curry with creamy fontina in the center topped off with kimchi mayo. Holy f. These quite literally put the traditional Italian ones to shame (sorry not sorry). Next was the bucatini. It had tom yum butter, lime, basil- all the fix ins of what you want from tom yum flavors with the luxuriousness added from the butter. It was sinful. Last and certainly not least, is the pork katsu. I cannot even remember the last time I ordered a pork katsu, but something told me to order it. Thank God I did, as it quite literally changed my life. If they ever take it off the menu I am not sure I would be OK. It is crispy and is swimming in this koji butter, but the key is that it is NOT greasy. I quite literally think about it all the time. To the point where I had it twice in a week. Service was great, bartenders are so friendly. The place is cute and vibrant. Keep in mind it is small- limited seating inside and a small patio outside. But so worth the wait. First the knock, and to be fair, it's probably just an opinion / idea. Given the birth of natural wine and the South Bay, it would be wonderful to see a curated selection of tasting flights, no more than two or three options with anywhere from 3 to 6 wine wines each, priced accordingly. Maintaining a proper wine menu when all you do is natural wine can certainly be a challenge. If you wine flights depending on what you have would certainly elevate the customer experience by educating more people natural wine and helping them make better choices when it comes to a bottle purchase. I paid $61 for a bottle that was recommended, and at that price point I wonder how many people who are new to natural wine might be turned off. Chris was a wonderful host and certainly the right person to engage with customers around their various wines. Given how small the space is and how busy it can get, a weekly tasting flight menu might be a good way to engage those customers who are waiting to order at the bar and perhaps even spark a more productive conversation with Chris. We ordered the peach and ricotta dish with Thai basil... wow, a wonderful surprise. Peaches are always battling in and out of the top spot on my summer fruit list and this combination was downright dirty and delicious! We also ordered the raw oysters with watermelon mignonette. Another wow! I didn't expect the little spice kick and it was a perfect pairing to the sweetness of the watermelon. If anyone knows the recipe let me know, I'd bottle that mignonette and take it with me wherever I have oysters!! Overall, a great experience and I most definitely look forward to going back!

Grilled artichoke was one of the best I have ever had. (Just wish they had been explicit on the menu that it was a half a grilled artichoke). Cocktails were up to their usual high standard -- rye Manhattan for the BF and clarified milk punch for me. I don't get out much these days and I rarely drink alcohol, but is $20 a lot for a cocktail? Or is that normal now? They were great though. BF got the ribeye with morels, which was perfectly cooked and unbelievably tender. I had the burger, which was more exciting than it sounds, dressed with a wild combo of veggies, cheese and bacon while still managing to be harmonious and fresh tasting. Side of fries were crisp and tasty, though not as perfectly hot as I would ideally wish. Because the burger was late coming out, or server (Bernardo I think?) comped us an amazing little dish of vanilla soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt, along with the butterscotch pudding that we ordered.
