First time going here Friday night. My friend had to use the restroom really bad, there was a line to the women's restroom (of course). Men's restroom was empty, so she ran in real quick and security came. Unsure of his name and was not able to get a good picture of him. But he walked in on my friend using the restroom, even after we said she was in there. He then proceeded to kick us out for using the mens restroom and he threatened to put his hands on me. He also was cussing and calling me names. Overall, will not be going back here. Will not recommend this place to anyone, especially women. It's obviously not a safe space for us. I love the option of bar hopping. There is no better place like DTSA (Downtown Santa Ana.) You have great bars and restaurants all walking distance from each other. Came with some co-workers for happy hour. Their drinks are stiff and priced great for your basic well drinks. The service on the other hand is why I have it 3 stars other than that I would have given them 4.5 stars. This is my second time writting a review for Proof. Back 2017 I was thrown out by some old asian bartender. As a local , I have gone back serval times again. On one occasion, back in march, I left my debit card with an open tab. As I closed out my tab I saved my recipt, but total balance ended up spending about $67 but when I looked at my bank account the next morning, I noticed the charge me more than once after closing my account. So like anyone would I call the bar the next day and explain the situation, one of the staff redirected me to email the owner because he, " wasn't able to do anything about it, he only works morning's". I want to write a bad review everyday and run this places reviews to the ground but I can see there's enough people here explaining their poor experience. Horrible. Terrible experience here. Last night I came in with some friends and it was sorta packed inside. The bartenders were overwhelmed and gave us the wrong drink and as I'm contesting it, someone else picks up my drink and sips. I let the bartender know and he literally took the drink from the man and hands it back to me. It's still a pandemic out here and the bartender hands me a drink someone else just drank. I said out loud, I'll pay for the drink but I'm not tipping this man. We paid and "the owner" kicks us out. This bar was super awesome on a Wednesday night at 11:00 p.m. My friend and I came in because not much else is open in downtown Santa Ana at that time on Wednesday. The security guard (Christian?) and bartender (Brian?) were so awesome. Brian made us two standard drinks that would normally be underwhelming, but he made them noticably and exceptionally well! (We ordered a sex on the beach and Tito's vodka) The man knows what he's doing and was super personable. The security guard was accomodating with my service dog and came and chatted with us on several occasions. Even when I spilled my drink, he was really cool. It had beer- but I kind of dont like a place that doesnt have taps...especially if they dont have food either, because then it just seems like you should be at home drinking a beer. This is a cool space and has a lot to show during the daytime as there are several old sky lights. The bar tender was playing jenga when I arrived with my two friends- this was a surprising thing to see, no shame in admitting how slow a bar can be at four in the afternoon. The best dance club in Orange County. The only and best option for dancing and a nightclub experience on a weekday. Drinks are made well, karaoke is fun, and the music is usually good. The only recommendation I would make is to leave anything that you don't need in the car or at home, as the security and search protocols are fairly strict. I find it less of a hassle to just leave all my things except my ID and card in the car when I go. read more

I came here to pre-game on a Tuesday early evening and it was a good choice because they had a great drink selection and they offered food from the next door restaurant. The crowd was small early in the evening but everyone's spirits were alive with the help of the fantastic service we received from the bartender. Seating is available on the private tables or at the bar. We were hanging at the bar to get closer to the booze. I found parking on the street which I had to feed the meter until 6PM. I have this habit of being dropped off at the Proof Bar in Santa Ana. I guess that's why I come here so much cause my buddy Q lives close by and I don't want anyone thinking remotely about driving when you want a chill time to indulge yourself. I come here literally to maximize my level of enjoyment. My job is to have a good time, you don't bother me, I don't bother you. It's full of hipsters and the local crowd, a watering hole for cheap drinks and bumpin' music. Tonight's sound is Old Skool hip-hop and I'm watching this homeboy break dance his ass off on the makeshift dance floor. The mid 20's chicks giggle with delight. Things like this put a smile on my face since me and my posse are never short of laughs when we frequent the joint. Whether, it's house, dubstep, funk, or whatever genre they're playing, I'm usually entertained. The drinks are heavy, decently taxed, and the staff is accommodating. There's some random, psychotic movie playing on the big screen or the walls showcase some fresh photography (probably hyping up the Santa Ana Artwalk). There's no entrance fee so I'm diggin' that. It's a good venue for meeting friends to grab a drink with other locales nearby (Chapter One, Memphis at the Santora, Crosby). You walk in, 2 or 3 seat tables to the right and alongside the left, saloon in the median. As you cruise past the bar, there are leather seats in the middle right side, Proof Bar DJ table and mini-stage straight ahead. Bathrooms are in the back (check out the artwork), with smoking patio in the far rear. Rating - 3.5 stars. Never had any issues being here, so I won't punish the venue for doing no harm. read more

I've been here several times and every time it is different! The first time I checked out proof, I went with a few friends on a quiet night. Joey, the bartender/owner that evening was really cool and down to earth. We started talking about various types of alcohol and even had an impromptu vodka tasting. Lately, I've been frequenting this place due to our YOC events. When Dave S suggested this place for our first YOC Happy Hour I was stoked! Although it had been months since I visited Proof, I was glad to see the place still had the same vibe. Here's some info about their HH drink specials: $5 martinis (including specialties) $1 off all drinks $6 glasses of wine 1/2 price appetizers (from Pangea) I also got a chance to check out their Karaoke night, Sing along with Steve on Mondays. It was a blast~ I heard everything from Guns-n-Roses' Welcome to the Jungle, to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, to an interesting song about Jesus building a boat (?). And if you pick the Mystery song, Steve will buy you a drink! It's a good sized bar in Santa Ana's developing artists district and has officially turned into my go-to spot. Saturday night, and we had dinner plans over at that crazy Daimon teppan place in Huntington Beach for a friend's birthday. What to do after? Since we were all in Orange County, and pretty much everyone else was from the South Bay, they all looked to me. (gulp). good thing for Yelp. I remembered the write-ups for Proof, and thanks to the internet and the iPhone we were on our way. We were there before the big rush so we got primo seating. Drinks are stiff, service was friendly, and a great time was had by all. I'll definitely have to make it back on one of these Mondays for the karaoke. =) Edit 01/23/08: This past monday, it was the 6th anniversary of my 29th birthday. This is a cozy bar that has a very home like feel. That's saying a lot as I really don't drink liquor much at all. The paintings on the wall are artistic and I found the vibe here very chill. I would like it if they served more food but the bartender was happy to serve me water and I had good conversation here with a friend. One of the bartenders here, Jeanette, is one of the nicest people. I think this bar is worth checking out. I have no idea how the drinks taste but I like the bar itself. The place was packed and since they only had 1 bar, it took a while to get drinks. Well it didn't take me too long because the bartender seemed more partial to women, but I could feel the tension from other guys that were standing next to me. However, the drinks were strong which is good. The patio was cool. I love the outdoors when it comes to bars/lounges because of the fresh air and it beat the stuffiness of the inside. I stopped in here with a friend after checking out the Artwalk last weekend. It was mostly dead except for a couple hammered chicks dancing it up in the back and some rockabilly cholos near the front. We must've walked in right as it gets going, though, because the place started filling up quickly after we grabbed a high top. They had bottled (ugh) Newcastle for $5. Reasonable, although I always hate getting that Glare of Death when I don't tip on bottles. Sorry, but I'm not giving anyone $1 to pop a top. At least there's something of an art form to the pouring of a beer on tap, but a flick of the wrist ain't worth my cash. The interior is a mixture of class and trash, perfect for the weekend hipster crowd... above the plush couches there was a blaxsploitation flick playing... the men's restroom is adorned with photos of animal copulation. I got two beers down before I had to get out after the umpteenth guy sporting a white skintight V-neck with a mustache and cowboy boots walked in. It's probably worth coming here before the joint fills to capacity, though. Sipping drinks at a bar with fellow yelpers on a weekday night for YOCHH left us with pretty much the whole bar to ourselves (with a few patrons here and there of course). The naked photos on the wall were true; naked breasts, legs, and arms were staring at you with their soft skin and tender nipples for all to see. The photos continued their journey to the bathroom as well, so you have something to stare at as one guy mentioned =p (small bathroom though, only two stalls .. good thing it wasn't packed). I bet ths place would be great on a weekend, so must remind myself to check it whenever I'm around the area. Finally met the great Hazel for the first time and she offered me a free drink (thanks!). The drinks were great here; strong and had me with a good buzz after 2 drinks (thanks Brett). Finally met a few new faces as well. I love PROOF! It's one of the best bars in DTSA. My friends and I have gotten along with the whole staff for almost two years but one staff member. The "security guard", Chris (the overweight bald bouncer), is very rude and only lets you in whenever he wants. He believes that he has the right to ban people whenever he wants. We've been nothing but respectful every time we enter the bar therefore there was no need for us to be targeted and banned from a bar we've been going to for the past two years or so. read more

It's been a while since I've been to Proof and Monday night Karaoke was one of the Yelp regular events I used to come for. It went away for a while but is now back again and this time the sound system has improve so much it actually is worthwhile to go and get your song on. I came here for the Japan Relief Fundraiser organized by Marian and even with a pretty good crowd things did not get crazy. That was one of the reasons I stopped going to Proof because in the past, when there was a large crowd things got so chaotic and it felt very uncomfortable in there. So I'm making Karaoke Monday's a regular event in my schedule. That's really the only night that I'll bother coming to Proof for several reasons: #1. Joel is bartending and he's pretty much made of awesome. I double dog dare you to ask for a double vodka soda and still be standing by the end of the night. #2. DJ Oscar has a HUGE HUGE HUGGGE variety of songs to choose from. The book is gigantic! Yet for some reason he never gives me shit when I sing "Paul Revere" by the Beastie Boys every week. #3. The crowd here on Monday's is soooo different than every other night of the week. There's usually the locals plus some hardcore karaoke people. But everyone meshes really well and everyone cheers each other on. PLUS Proof sells Camels which is awesome because it saves me a trip to ampm when I'm really in need of cigarettes. I'm glad that my view of Proof has been changed a bit. I still wouldn't come here on a Friday or Saturday night, but Monday nights are the best since it's low-key and you can still have a really fun time. Especially if you roll in with 10 friends and decide it's a good idea to sing "I think we're alone now" by Tiffany. read more
