This place was packed full on a Sunday evening. Couldn't reserve a table, and a section was closed off due to being understaffed. I want to commend the manager and the staff members who still made it work for our large group of people, even though they were super busy. The manager was nice and understanding of our situation and ended up allowing our group sit in the closed off section, granted, we had to order food at the bar. But like I said, they made it work for our group, and for that, I want to commend the employees for accommodating us. Food was good as well. I got one of each: shrimp, fish, and steak tacos. I've been to Mission a couple of times as I have some friends who like it here. I'm not a fan of Mexican food so I don't believe I've ever eaten here, I've just had drinks. The upstairs bar can get wild from what I remember. When my group and I were here two weeks ago it wasn't overly busy. There was a large group of women at the end of the bar which appeared to be some kind of special event they were celebrating. The bar service wasn't great. The bartender seemed to be more interested in playing with her co-workers than serving her patrons. This isn't a place I ever seek out, I just go with people who like it. A casual Mexican restaurant that's great for brunch, and right across from the Nationals stadium, so expect a crowd on game day. Good food and drinks, and a fun atmosphere for a boozy weekend brunch. I was in the mood for a sweet item, so my only option on the menu was the toast with blackberry jam. Our server said it'd be enough for a meal, and calorically it was, but with it essentially being brioche buns with jam, it wasn't fully satisfying. By making it bottomless (everyone at your table must participate), the whole table got chips and salsa with free refills, which was a nice touch. All of the other dishes seemed pretty filling and looked tasty, so I'd recommend any of those, instead. The energy of the place is vibrant and fun--it's not so raucous that you're yelling to hear people at your table, but it still has a lot of energy, helped by the tv screens and groups of tables doing bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's. We came around 1:30pm on Saturday, and because there was a game just about to start as well as some private events occurring on the lower floors, we had to wait until 2 to get seated. The restaurant is close enough to the waterfront that you can kill time by walking around on a nice day. I am so impressed with Mission. First, I had Mission food several weeks ago as they donated food for a Happied DC Meet Up. The quesadillas and the wings were very memorable. Last night, a friend of mine coordinated a DMV does meetup for taco Tuesday and on a Nationals game night at Mission. It is my understanding Dora was the host that set up space for the group. First, we had a section on first floor right near the door and that was wonderful. The staff provided us with complimentary salsa, chips, quesdillas. Then the bartender was responsive to us and even made me a tasty non-alcoholic drink with sprite, pineapple juice and cranberry juice :) The wings are amazing and the sauce is what melts in your mouth. It's a great place to catch the game near the park, and it's gets a lively crowd! It's definitely a place I will check out again and I was very happy with the service. I loved their food and ambiance. The music was a little loud but we really enjoyed it the song selection as well- fun dance along music. The food was yummy. The loaded fries were amazing, 4 of us shared it and it was a good portion for us all. The churros were a little undercooked and I didn't like the chocolate sauce with it. Mission is open until midnight on weekend nights -- which is a godsend after a long nats game. Upon arriving around 11 PM, the bar wasn't very crowded, but as the game ended crowds started to form. The restaurant served food when we arrived so we ordered the queso skillet and enchiladas. The queso skillet was HUGE - a giant serving of cheese and chips. Great to share. If you're looking for a great happy hour menu for an after work group gathering, Mission Navy Yard is a great option. It's right by the Nats Stadium and has two large floors with plenty of seating. The happy hour prices are impressive. I ordered a $23 pitcher of margaritas and it served six full glasses of drinks. Also, taco Tuesdays sell two tacos and a pint of beer for $10. Outside of that, this is an average place. The food isn't noteworthy and the chips come with almost tasteless salsa. The service is GREAT and you're bound to find a seat. A nice spot for brunch. If the weather is nice, the large windows are open making it almost like dining outdoors. Service was very good, although largely absent towards the end of the meal. Their bacon is excellent. The Mexican-Benedict was okay but for my tastes the corn cakes just don't work well with the eggs and hollandaise sauce. Quesadillas are tasty. My friend and I came to Mission after an event we attended didn't provide decent food or drinks. Mission was closest to where we were and we didn't have a reservation. It was a weekend so we knew we were going to wait regardless which was fine. The host was very nice and attending and didn't show any type of distress when many people were going up to him constantly. We were lucky to get bench seating since there really wasn't any other places to sit for our 1hr wait. Once we were called, the host instructed us to go upstairs to the 2nd host stand only to be sent back downstairs to the bar area. It was a little confusing but we were sat at nice large table even though it was just the two of us. Our server greeted us and brought us some water a little afterwards and the table provided QR codes for us to scan and look at the menu. We both decided on the pineapple jalapeño margarita and the chicken quesadilla. We got our food and drinks not too long afterwards and we were especially happy about that! The margarita was really good and we practically devoured the quesadillas within a couple of minutes! We were both very hungry so our orders really did hit the spot :) The bar area during our visit was pretty quiet in comparison to when we first got there; they had a huge group of people filling all the tables and they were really loud. I was happy that we were able to enjoy our food and drinks without the sound of yelling from drunk dudes. I'm to say that our first visit here was good! I'm glad that after an upsetting start of the evening turned into a nice one after all. My only complaint during our visit at Mission was that our server was barely around when we needed her. Once we got our food and drinks, she never returned and I had to ask for the host to find her because we needed more water. Maybe because they were short staff or she was having a tough night, I'm not sure. The food and drinks came out fast so I can't complain too much. Since this place is right next to the Nationals stadium, I definitely recommend Mission for those who are looking for good cocktails and food outside of the ballpark. read more

Visited Mission Navy Yard around 2pm on a rainy Sunday in March and it was hopping! We sat on the second floor at the second bar. First drink was a special margarita. It was marg-amazing! Switched to mimosas because brunch. The queso was legit and interesting. Then came the buffalo shrimp tacos. I'm not a huge fan of shrimp so I'm still not sure why I even ordered these but they were the absolute best tacos of any kind I have ever had anywhere. I will start by saying that I am a Mission FAN. I have loved the Mission in DuPont circle, so when my coworker told me that they were opening one in Navy Yard, I was excited. Happy hour is popular and has really awesome prices. I took away one star because I've come here twice and tried to order shrimp as my protein choice for my quesadilla. The first time, the manager informed server it would cost $15. The second time, they told me they could not do it. I find that odd given the Mission in DuPont has always let me have that. Located directly across the street from the ballpark, this restaurant is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I've been to the Dupont location several times and this location does not disappoint. Two levels with an average sized bar downstairs and two huge bars upstairs on the second floor. There's also a huge patio on the second floor overlooking the ballpark. Margaritas are on tap and super strong. Strawberry basil margarita is very sweet and not so heavy on the alcohol. Nachos are okay, quite filling but an extra $4 for protein is absurd. The quesadillas are good too but protein is an additional $4 for that as well. Happy hour is seven days a week from 4 to 7 and also 10 to close Thurs thru Sun. Service is not great at all. This is always a great choice whenever you are looking for drinks! Not to mention the food! The beer is always nice and cold. They have margaritas on tap, which are strong and tasty! The guacamole is a must whenever you come here and the tacos are pretty great as well. I would say I'm the biggest fan of the al pastor as the chicken doesn't have as much flavor. This was our first time going to Mission, as we have had heard mixed reviews. The noise level of the music was really loud, almost that of a night club when you first walked in. If the music was lower, it would've been a better experience. The drinks were not bad at all. I will say the ranch water was a little strong, had to cut it down with a few limes. My sister ask for a corona with a lime, the waitress (Julia) told her it came in a can, but she still wanted a glass with a lime. The food was really good. I highly impressed with each thing that everyone got. Definitely looking forward to trying other items on our next visit. I would like to address the lack of attention and enthusiasm our waitress Julia had to offer. There was a table next to us and she had to at least come by their table five times and could careless that we were done. I had to get up and ask her for the check, to which she was on her phone and seemed bothered that I asked for the check. Julia asked if I wanted it individually separated. There is a picture that is attached, you can see that she has a mask below her nose. This is highly alarming, as she is handling peoples food and drinks. Made a reservation through email, but when I got there they had no record if us. Thank goodness it wasn't busy and they let us sit outside The queso wasn't hot, which was disappointing because seemed like an upgraded version of queso versus other places. Mission Navy Yard. I had such high hopes, only to be terribly disappointed. We walked into the beautifully designed space- the atmosphere was electrifying and the décor was phenomenal! We went upstairs and were greeted by the hostess. We asked for a table for three, she said, "Let me check on something" and scurried off. No big deal. She returned and told us to follow her. As we followed her, we very quickly noticed the lack of Black folks in the main area. As we turned the corner, we realized why- ALL OF THE BLACK PEOPLE WERE SEATED IN THE BACK, OUT OF VIEW OF THE OTHER PATRONS. We immediately left (with a sour taste in our mouths) and went to the bar section. We sat and the table was... sticky. And that's an understatement. My friend went and had the host come and wipe down the table. As we were sitting in the bar area, we had to go to the bar to order food. My friend went to place our drink orders, and was met by a very rude male bartender. She brought one drink to the table, while waiting for the other two. When she returned to the bar, she was then met with a very rude female bartender. When she came back to the table, she decided that she was not going up to order food and someone else in our group would need to, as she was fed up. We ordered the food (which was actually very tasty, so that was a plus), but it did not arrive at the same time. We asked for water for the able, never received it. We asked for napkins (none came with the food), and we received four. I don't understand the hype around this RACIST establishment, but I know that I won't be returning and I will be ACTIVELY deterring everyone that I know against going there. Why didn't we leave? I have one word to describe our overall experience here - LOUD. I'm not sure if it was just the crowd that happened to be there that day or if this restaurant is typically this loud, but the person across from me and I had to yell to hear each other. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't mind being in a loud establishment like a club or a bar when the mood is right. But I was surprised that a restaurant during prime time brunch hours was this uncomfortably loud. I think this is probably not as bad during the warmer months when they can open the garage doors, but I think those metal doors and the industrial architecture made the perfect environment to reverberate and amplify the sound. Now, with that out of the way, on to the food and service. The food was good. Solidly good. I would return on the food if I could find a time they weren't so busy (i.e. loud). I ordered the fried cauliflower for an appetizer and the taco salad for my main. I also had the chance to try their nachos. Let's start with the apps: chips/salsa and fried cauliflower. Our chips for the chips and salsa were mostly tiny broken bits, which made eating the salsa difficult but whatever. I tried both salsas and thought they both could use some oomph. So I asked for a spicier sauce. They don't have one. Mer. When a person at our table ordered guac, it came with more chips and these were full size so that was nice. The menu made it seem as if you would have to pay for extra chips (outside of ordering guac, which comes with a basket). And my issue with that is, if you're gonna charge for chips after the first basket, don't bring a basket of crumbs for the first basket. But I digress. The fried cauliflower was delicious. This is a must order. Everyone at our table loved it, even the people who don't like cauliflower. The nachos were very good. I wish I had ordered those for my main instead of the taco salad. The taco salad was so salty. I could barely eat it. My salad had come out last, by a significant amount and so I wasn't going to send it back and have to wait for something else all while everyone else is finished eating. The service was fine, no major complaints. Overall, a solid 3 star experience and I would be willing to return when warmer and the garage doors are up to see if the sound is managed better. read more

If you want to go into what feels like a wet dirty basement, then this is the place for you! Mission will let ANYONE in; 5'2 men that are raging on steroids, and frat boys who wear flip flops. You can not bathe for days and show up in your pajamas and they will still let you in. The guy to girl ratio does not exist in this town, so it's always a sausage fest in there. On top of that the DJ plays music only from tiktok, A+ for creativity. The floors are always soaking wet from god knows what, but hey if you slip and fall you might get a check from a lawsuit. They also serve food but if you love yourself enough you'd skip. Drinks are watered down as hell. Overall, trashy ambiance and the trashiest people. read more

If you are on a mission to have Mexican food in the Navy Yard neighborhood of DC, Mission is the spot to be! This is a solid spot for a large group, but can get a little loud. Would not recommend for a romantic date. To start out, we asked for the complimentary chips and salsa. It did take quite awhile for the chips to come out out. However, the chips were not overly salty and the right amount of thickness. The chips were good for scooping salsa which I appreciate. My rule of thumb is that if you can't scoop salsa with a chip, it's not a great chip. We also ordered the hot guacamole. While the guac was quite good, it definitely was on the mild side. I don't believe they gave us the hot. For my main orders, I had 3 tacos: Vegan, Duck, and Chicken. The duck was my favorite, as the squash and pickled shallots complimented it very well. Good combination of savory, crunchy, and juicy flavors. Don't be fooled by the vegan taco either. Even though I think a vegan lifestyle is a little over the top, these tacos had mushrooms seasoned just right with the cilantro garlic sauce. Everybody in our group seemed to have a good time. My friends and I came here following a march. We were just looking for places in the area & the bar next door directed us here. We went in the downstairs bar area. It was open seating with ordering done at the bar. Food: 5/5 Drinks: 5/5 Service: none The place was very clearly overwhelmed when we were there. The entire area was full and there was one bartender. The host wasn't doing a whole lot. The tables were dirty and sitting. The food runners really struggled to get the food to the right places. The manager was walking around, but we still couldn't really get any assistance. It was a game day and they still clearly weren't ready for the volume. We had tacos, the loaded fries, wings, and queso with shrimp. I had the tito's lemonade and it was delicious. The tacos were fine, nothing special. The fries and nachos were really good!
