Outstanding Thanksgiving meal with great service. The pork was the table favorite, but everything was great!!

Had heard of this place from a family member so my mom and I stopped in at 4pm to a line awaiting entry for happy hour. We were greeted at the hostess desk and made a reservation for dinner (which doesn't start until 5pm on Saturday). So we went to the patio and had a lovely time relaxing in the views of the fog rolling over the coast line, the sheep in the field and a beautiful patio. Had the potato skins and a glass of the local Chardonnay. When our buzzer went off at 5:05pm we were seated (inside) by the window overlooking the field in the dining room (not bar dining area). We had a fabulous meal of scallops and a filet. Although my baked potato was under done, the server did offer to bring me a new one. I was so full enjoying my perfect steak so I declined. Definitely order the chocolate mousse for dessert. We wished we had brought the remaining few bites back to our hotel room. Fabulous service, delicious food and a relaxing view. Worth it! Definite recommend. Come early for best seating. read more

I am new to Monterey and someone suggested I go here for local flair and I have to admit it was well worth the trip. They don't take reservations so my friend and I had to wait at the bar and because it was a busy week it was a bit crowded but we did manage to find a seat. The view is great and it seems like a "locals favorite" because the bartenders knew most of the patron's names and were very friendly. I was entertained with people watching and the two female bartenders seem to really enjoy their job and laughed and smiled and made me feel welcome. I was paged for a table and was seated within 30 minutes and that was much quicker than the estimated time frame. The food was good and the service was efficient. I saw a couple of items that I thought I would like so will have to return again to check them out. I had the salmon and the fish was moist, not overly fishy and had a really good lemon butter sauce. My friend ordered a prime rib which was a very generous portion so they don't scrimp on the plates!! I'm looking forward to my next visit there and this time will stick around for the singing because I was told it was an experience I should see for myself. We went early about 4:30pm and were added to a list. No reservations. First come first serve and they don't seat until 5pm. PROS The views are so gorgeous! Overlooking the beach and water and the sheep are adorable that you want to chase them and hug their "huge" fluffiness. There's a small piano bar inside and the live music was lovely to hear. Appetizers of Crab Cakes were really really good! Their Garlic Break is great!!! CONS The waiting for a table was so long. We got there at 4:30 and didn't sit down until 5:40pm. When others got there they were told their wait is 1-2 hours. The inside dining area is small. (Recommend the heated patio area to eat. It's larger space and has the great views!) The waitress we had was managing the patio for about 15+ tables = slow service. The service was really long. We actually called it the "European 3 hour dining experience" Food was okay. It certainly wasn't the best. My scallops and spinach was swimming in butter and Scallops weren't seasoned. My husbands steak was overcooked and there was no seasoning on his asparagus. Overall Recommendation: Go early but maybe only have appetizers and drinks on the patio or patio lawn area to enjoy the beautiful scenery. read more

We spent a week in Carmel without using any computers, television or other electronics. Coming back to reality, have to think of all we did. Our best meal was diner last Thursday at Mission Ranch. Our server, Bethany, was beyond fantastic and the food was great! I don't remember all that we had, I had the pork chop and was blown away by the taste! I know the clam chowder was a big hit and so was the salmon. We love going there and are already thinking of when we can next get away! read more

8/28/11 Sunday brunch at Mission Ranch,10AM to 1:30PM was so enjoyable and with a price of 30.00 per person along with entertainment is truley worth recommending. Once a working ranch and now with sheep grazing in meadow makes for a very peaceful setting for dining inside or out. I've visited Mission ranch many times either for lodging or dining and never disappointed. This was my first Sunday brunch there and as usual outstanding food & service and our waiter was so personable which added more to this pleasurable dining experience. I would have loved to give this place a better review, but unfortunately the service is so terrible, it barely deserves one star. After calling to inquire about sunday brunch, I was told to come after 1:00pm in order to beat the crowds, and that the brunch went until 2:30pm. When we arrived at 1:35pm, we were treated so rudely by the hostess, I could hardly believe my eyes. Apparently this woman takes her joy in refusing people entrance to the sunday brunch if they are over 1 minute late. Despite the fact that the staff answering the phone says "come after 1:00pm, then doesnt bother to mention that it closes strickly at 1:30pm sharp. This is a buffet, and we could see so much food that was going to go to waste because this hostess took personal pride in rejecting people. She was absolutely haeartless, even towards my elderly handicapped mother, who had struggled to walk in with her walker, only to be told to leave. There were 4 of us, and I saw this mean woman turn away several others as well-even though the food was going to go to waste, and she was turning away hundreds of dollars of business, as I'm sure she does each and every sunday. What a waste. this was meant to be a special birthday brunch for my mom, it was jut really sad to be treated so rudely, when she had been so excited to go to Clint Eastwood's place. Had Thanksgiving dinner at the Mission Ranch. Beautiful location . When we arrived they couldn't find our reservation but there were some empty tables so they were able to seat us. The food was below average, it felt mass produced and I equaled if to a soup kitchen. They served my prepared plate without cranberries or stuffing - how could they forget that ? I had to ask for it and my request for dark meat yielded both and it was really dry. Cranberry sauce was really tart and I didn't enjoy. This place is a treasure! I went for a long weekend with my parents who were visiting from the midwest, and we booked a night at Mission Ranch to enjoy the cozy atmosphere, but also have brunch (which they're famous for). Honestly, Mission Ranch was the highlight of our weekend getaway. Brunch is INCREDIBLE and a great place to go to celebrate a special occasion. What really set Mission Ranch apart, though, was the customer service. There was a plumbing issue in our room the night before we stayed, and they went out of their way to find us accommodations on a sold out weekend. On top of that, they let us stay for free for our trouble. It's tough to find service like that these days, so we were really impressed. Will definitely come back here again! read more

Amazing! The ahi appetizer is is my favorite, so fresh and delicious! All of the steaks here are flavorful and the fish is great too. Beautiful location on a ranch with animals, great date night spot. They have a piano and every once in awhile Clint Eastwood will come in and play. Service was the issue here. My wife and I had a fairly good experience here until it was time to leave. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. I asked someone who may have been a waitress (or perhaps the hostess because she was one of 2 people seating guests) if she could let our waitress know we were ready to pay the tab. Not sure if she wasn't listening and thought I was asking her to get our check, but she said our waitress would be back soon. The next time the same person passed us, she pointed out our waitress towards the back of the restaurant and said she would be by soon. Nope, not the case as she was busy serving outdoor customers. The same person proceeded to pass us 3 more times until the 4th time she decided to tell us we could pay at the bar. I say great thanks, walk to the bar, and....was told they can't close our tab because we have one open with that waitress. While I'm trying to explain the situation our waitress finally shows up and I give her my card. By this point I wasn't surprised it took her a while to run it. Needless to say, we changed our minds about returning later for dinner. The 2 stars are for the views this restaurant offers. Besides that, I don't see a reason to return. read more

We have eaten at the restaurant 4 or 5 times and stayed in the rooms twice. My husband just loves this place and is never disappointed with anything they do. Room are comfy, quiet and very clean! Highly recommend this place for a romantic or family venue to relax. read more

Waitress spilled a bowl of gravy all over my dates clothing. They offered to have clothes cleaned and that was it. Our meal was cold when she returned from the bathroom trying to clean up. They refused to serve a hot meal or discount the cold one. They would not even offer to reheat our meals. They simply said " that is not our policy". Poor service and bad policy!! If Clint knew what was going on heads would roll. Called the manager the next day and talked to deaf ears. read more

The setting and scenery are nice, loved the grazing sheep in the pasture and the sunset over the ocean. Food and service, not so much. The menu is uninspired; the food quality mediocre overall (fair to good for the meat, but pretty awful for the sides (I've had better onion rings and cole slaw at national chain restaurants) and some weird pairings (my wife's scallops in mushroom sauce didn't work at all); and the service was very rushed. We were guests at Mission Ranch for 4 nights, and 3 of those evenings we ate dinner at the Mission Ranch. They do not take reservations, but if you are staying at the Ranch, you are given seating priority. We just had to call ahead and request a time we would like to eat. A specific time was not guaranteed, but we rarely waited more than 10 minutes for a table. This was a great convenience, otherwise waiting an hour for a table is common during the busy season. Our dinners were all very good, fresh, and prepared the way we requested. Our servers were all very pleasant. The restaurant is incredibly charming, with amazing views. A sweet gem we look forward to visiting again. read more

I have dined at Mission Ranch for years and had wonderful experiences, food and service here. However my good experiences may be just memories now. I was there this past weekend (Sunday night) and had a terrible sub par experience. The server was not at all attentive and we constantly had to chase her down but she had no problem attending to some of her other tables. She never once came by to refill our glasses with wine. Our food arrived late and every entree' was either cold or overcooked. The Babyback ribs were very overdone and dry and gobs of sauce were poured over them to mask the dryness. When we made it to dessert and coffee our coffee was COLD! and we constantly had to look for a busboy or the server for help. This is not the Mission Ranch I recommend to my friends! Of course the view was pretty but does not make up for bad food and lousy service. My husband and I are very disappointed. There was never any attempt made to make us feel they were sorry or it was just an off night. I hope someone is listening to improve a once stellar restaurant. read more

The one star rating is from last nights poor service and burnt chips and lousy tasting salsa. Being a local and having visited the Mission Ranch for years we were very disappointed with the service out on the patio. Had to wait for 15 minutes before placing our order. Another 15 min. before actually getting our order with the waitress forgetting about the chips and salsa! They weren't even that busy. Once we did receive the chips they were burnt and tasted like.... Just one unpleasant evening in the neighborhood. read more

Simply had the best meal of our lives, on the patio, by the outdoor fireplace and overlooking sheep pastures and the ocean. What a night we had!!! A few hours after eating the Sunday brunch at the Mission Ranch, I came down with severe vomiting and stomach distension, which resulted in hospitalization for 3 nights at the CA Pacific Medical Center. Diagnosis was food poisoning leading to paralytic ileus. Given the timing of the food ingestion in relation to my symptoms, it could only have been something I ate at Mission Ranch. When I contacted the general manager about it, she denied there was anything wrong with her food because no one else got sick that day - although according to my gastrointenstinal doctor most food poisoning only involves one person. However she invited me to try the restaurant again as her guest. Later, when I tried to take her up on her offer, she denied having made the offer. This is not the place I would recommend if you want a place where management actually cares about their customers and food safety. read more

Made a return visit to Mission Ranch last night specifically for their Prime Rib and now I wish we hadn't. It was absolutely the worst meat dish we have ever had at a restaurant of any kind - made the Outback's meat taste outstanding. The only thing good on the plate were the vegetables. Prime rib was thin and chewy. Could'nt tell about the degree of cooking because we were seated outside and it was pitch black even with the two tiny candles on the table. Did complain to management and were given a lecture about how great the restaurant is. With so many other restaurants to choose from in the local area, needless we won't be returning. read more

Stunning views, great wine. Friendly staff. They do not take reservations and I highly recommend getting there just before dark so you can see the beauty of the surroundings here and then dine by the fire & the stars after sundown. Reasonably priced for all that you are getting. I love Carmel & this is one of the best places to visit. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant with great service. I went several years ago after graduating high school on a vacation with my father and this was where I treated him to a birthday dinner. So suffice it to say it was a tad pricey for my 17-year-old budget, but from what I remember the food was excellent. ;) I hear there is quite the view, but we arrived shortly after sunset and weren't able to see much of anything out the window. I love this place! I love getting there early to watch the sunset. The restaurant over looks a green pasture with roaming sheep and the view of the ocean off in the distance. The views are insane! I've seen a few Hollywood stars there too ! Good ole Clint was walking across the street once. He's the coolest. The atmosphere inside is loud. Lots of old folks singing at the piano bar. They don't take reservations so I'm not sure how the other yelper below made reservations. HMMMM? Okay so the food is really good. I always order the Oso Bucco short ribs. They're OSO good. The meat is tender and juicy. The sauce melts in your mouth. The mash potatoes are creamy and tasty. Even the asparagus were perfectly cooked. My hubby ordered the pork. He loved it. The salads are good,the bread is good,the free anitpasta dish they give is good.....awww the bread pudding is yummy. This is a great place and it's fun! read more

This hotel is a dump. I might as well stay at a motel 6. The room was decorated in early 80's, the cable tv was pitiful, the floor was sloped, the light switches for the bathroom were outside of the bathroom, the shower head was the cheapest, poorest quality available, and the walls are paper thin, it was noisy. Further, the handle to the room had sharp piece of metal on it that would easily cut a guest's hand. I have no desire to stay at this establishment again. The quality and decoration of the room are indicative of a much less expensive establishment. read more

We had our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding and it was absolutely charming. The food was lovely, the bartenders and servers were sweet, and the decorations were perfect. Because this was not 'the big day' we did not spend as much time and effort making sure everything was perfect but we didn't need to-the staff did it for us. My husband stayed here the night before the wedding and only had the best things to say about it. And the sheep were adorable! read more

So this is a new one. I ordered a burger while at dinner with 7 friends last night, and very specifically asked for medium rare. It came well done, so I asked if they would bring me another that was "pink", medium rare, not rare or too cooked. No problem. It arrives and its very rare.Rather than make a fuss, I picked around the edges that were more cooked, and ate all the french fries. When they took it away, they noticed I had not eaten much and said they'd tell the manager. He came over and in a loud voice that distracted the entire table, asked about my burger. I told him no big deal, they are usually very good and I was fine. He was insistent to give me a credit. OK...here it is....He said he'd give me credit for 1/2 a burger since I had eaten half of it, (which I clearly had not). Everyone at the table was in shock at such a cheap resolution to the issue. I have never ever seen any restaurant, much less a higher end restaurant offer half of a meal as a credit. In light of our large bill, and that I am a local that comes there often with clients...I was beyond embarrassed for this manager that clearly needs some further training in customer service. read more
