Best salsa in San Diego! My husband and I came across Mister G's spicy garlic salsa at Protector Brewery. We bought some from the fridge to take home and my only regret was not buying two because once we got home, it was game over for that salsa -- it didn't even last an hour. The salsa had good flavor, as well as a nice kick to it, and you could actually taste the garlic! We've been trying to find a salsa that we like out here (been here for three years total) and haven't found one until we had some Mister G's. The last time we had really good salsa was when we lived on Oahu, but even then.. it was a salsa that was made in Compton that we bought at the commissary. Seriously the Best place for Salsa. This is quality salsa not just one of those get your overly spicey anything type of places. This is resturant style salsa and so enjoyable. Never have I gone to a place just for my chip and salsa fix but I do now! The place is located near Miramar. As far as I know, it's open Saturday and Sunday. Maybe Friday too. I've gone on the weekends the past few times so I'm not 100%. I love all of the salsas I've tried but Serrano is my favorite, it's got great flavors and just the right amount of spice. The place is cute and has seating. It looks like a cool hangout place with drinks, games and a TV. It's clean and it has a restroom. The girl at the front and the guy in the kitchen are really cool to talk to. Overall great place. Great people and Amazing salsa. The pricing is very fair and affordable so I usually pick up 4-5 salsas at a time. If I'm having people over for something I will pick up like 10. Definitely stop by, you won't regret it. read more

Mister G's Salsa is SO good! I frequent Jaunt Coffee next door and noticed that there was a Salsa spot next door but they seemed to only be open Thursday through Sunday. I checked it out one day and noticed they were selling a specific salsa of the week for a $1! I had to get some and a bag of tortilla chips and everything tasted very fresh. Cute place! I wish they would do a better job of advertising their hours and have an actual website to learn more about the products that they offer. I somehow found their Instagram page and noticed that they advertise their $1 salsas for Fridays and Saturdays, so one Saturday morning I bought their "original" for $1 and also picked up their serrano salsa for my mom. My mom raved about both salsas, but wished they were hotter, so I'll be coming back and getting getting her the hotter options again someday. read more

I initially went over in this area for Preston's (which by the way, GOAT for ginger beer) and stopped over at Mister G's for a flight of salsa. I am annoyingly allergic to allium, which is the worst with onions, but sometimes, I take the risk of reaction because, I mean c'mon... who could deny chips and salsa?! Anyway, their salsas are all outstanding. I LOVED their black pepper garlic salsa the most, it's worth the allergic reaction, every time. Flash forward 6 mos later... This place is only open Thursday-Sunday (I think) but it is a gem! They make some awesome salsa. Every day they will have a $1 special where one of their signature salsas is only $1, but they do sell out quickly! There hasn't been a salsa I've tried from here that hasn't been great. If it's your first time, definitely start out with a flight of salsa. They have a nice array of different flavors, from sweet and spicy, spicy and savory! There are 6 in a flight and you can choose. My faves are the peach, corn, the Mean Green and the black pepper garlic! I'm usually not a sweet salsa kind of person, but the contrast between the peach/corn and the others is quite nice. The flight also comes with some chips to dip. Even though the sample sizes are smaller, with 6 samples, that's still 12 oz. of salsa altogether. I wasn't able to finish mine but they do have lids for flight cups so you can take them home. Tip - bring someone with you and get different flavors so you'll be able to try all of them! read more

I always thought this place was closed but the doors were open when I came to get coffee next door. Sure the person at the register was not very talkative or personable but I came here to buy salsa not to chat or be treated like royalty just to BUY SALSA!? lmao The salsa was delicious. I just happened to stop by Mister G's Salsa after getting cookies. We had already eaten dinner so we weren't hungry. I actually wondered how could a place just sell salsa? I love elotes so I thought I'd give it a try. It's more of a dip and not the type that's an actual meal or side dish. It was ok. I ordered the original salsa just to give it a try. One look at the salsa and the balance of ingredients and texture, I knew it would taste as good as it looked. It's awesome that they served the elotes and salsa with a huge bag of restaurant style tortilla chips. The prices were reasonable and the other menu items sound good too. I stopped in here because I had a Groupon to use. I had the salsa dog and a beer. The salsa was good but the dog was certainly not meant to be the highlight. The dog itself was quite lackluster but the salsa was the star of the show. The hours here are super duper limited so be sure you check before stopping in. There are several breweries in walking distance of here if you want to grab a drink as well. They have an assortment of beverages and bottled beers in the fridge to choose from. I don't think I've ever had such a pitiful display pf customer service in my life. I walk into an empty storefront to try them out and support their business, and when I enthusiastically say hello, the woman at the counter says nothing to me to greet me nor smiles. Then I ask a simple question clarifying the cost of the salsa, and she again says nothing to me and gives me an annoyed look and just nods her head slowly. I decided I wasn't about to support this business anymore and left and still, the woman said absolutely nothing to me. I did nothing to give her reason to treat me that way. The only thing I can think of is that I was wearing a mask. Pro tip, when you have only one customer, it's probably a good idea to give them a little respect and at the very least, greet them and let them know you are there to help. You think "it's just salsa" but when I first ate it I consciously thought "this is the best salsa I've ever had." Got the flight with 6 salsas and chips - you get to try almost all of their stock. Got the Mean Green, The Hot One, Pineapple, SJ, Habanero, and Black Garlic Pepper. The base is similar in the red salsas with just added spice or flavor, but the base alone is super fresh and filling and not watery or bland at all. I was surprised we got chips with the flight, because it was a lot of salsa for a small price (I think $7?). It took us quite a few days to finish the salsa so you get a lot for the price. The many varieties here give an option for most everyone. I likes the classic varieties such as the habanero. But the black pepper garlic, corn salsa and peach were awesome stand outs. You can grab a "flight" of six small sizes and a generous basket of chips for pretty cheap... or go big and jump in for a "salsa dog" which is a big ole beef dog on a french roll with your choice of salsa (it really works well, trust me). Yes, they have most all varieties ready to go home with you as well. All are made in small batches with great local ingredients, so....your really out of excuses aren't ya! What a fun find! We were at one of the spots in the area for a drink & saw this place & it was something we'd never seen before. Flight of salsa?! Say no more. We chose 5 or 6 salsas & the guy even brought it over to the wine bar for us. It came with a big bag of chips but we finished them all off with some salsa to go, and the guy gave us a whole other bag! Super nice people & the salsas were so freaking good. On a rainy Saturday evening, we stopped by here for some munchies on our alcohol hopping parade in Miralani Makers District. We went for a 2 oz taster of each flavor: pineapple, corn, serrano, original, mean green (aka spicy verde) and black pepper garlic. All concoctions were distinct. Just wow. Chips'n'salsa is one of my favorite foods and this place knocks it out of the park. The chips were fresh and the right thickness. The salsas were all delectable, with the smoked jalapeño as my clear winner. Easily some of the best salsas that I've had anywhere, particularly when you consider the consistency of the tastiness.
