This is one of the few good Cambodian places in Stockton. I used to come here once a week for lunch when I went to UOP. Some of the things I like was the chow-fun (with gravy), minced lemon-grass quail, and the Combination/Phnom Penh noodle soups. The food is pretty authentic and pretty close to home-cooking. One of the worst place I've been to. I ordered beef soup noodle/(Katewh) and it tasted like a dead fish. I tried to be polite and whisper to the waitress letting her know the soup taste a bit weird. But Instead, she rudely raised her voice accusing me for putting stuff in the soup. Not to mention She did not accommodate me with a different bowl. Everytime I visit Stockton this restaurant has always been a part of the itenary. You cant go wrong with their lemongrass sour soup, pineapple sour soup, pan fried noodles, curry dishes, or Prahok Kitis with fresh veggies. Their smoothies are also delicious. Since San Jose has very few options for Cambodian food, we thought we'd stop by Stockton on our way home from Reno to get our fix on. We even brought our very own Cambodian, in hopes that we'd fit right in. Mitapheap is a small restaurant that fits maybe 45 people. The 4 of us ordered Phnom Phen noodle soup wet, dry, chicken curry soup, and ground quail with lemon grass. I had the dry Phnom Phen noodles. The noodles were really really mushy. To the point where you feel like throwing up as you eat through the mushyness. The flavor of the sauce was very plain, like it was missing something. The wet noodles were not much better as my Cambo friend ordered it and said it was lacking. The ground quail was gross. They ground it up with the bones in it, so as you're eating it, there's tiny grain sized bones in the quail. Why don't they take the bones out?! The curry wasn't very good as well. I wouldn't come back to Mitapheap, and I wouldn't recommend my friends. How did this place get 4 stars?! read more

This place is good. I've been here once and order both somlah dishes. I don't remember the names but I think mine was somlaw machoo krueng. It wasn't bad. It was pretty tasty but it doesn't compare so mama's cooking (of course). I enjoyed it and it tasted a lot better when I added the Thai chilis. I don't remember the other dish because my sister ordered it but I remember that it was okay too. I don't live in Stockton so I can't really come here a lot but if I do have a chance, I would like to try the other food on their menu. As for price and service, it wasn't that bad. I guess for Stockton you would think there are better options for Cambodian restaurants. The food was ok nothing to rave about. Beef lok la was tough and the lemon black pepper sauce served with it was bland not to mention they used bottled lime juice instead of fresh limes. We also ordered beef with Chinese broccoli it was meh. I did however enjoyed their fish soup with banana flower country style food. First of all I am not a fan of any Asian establishments charging for rice as it is part of our culture to serve rice with 98% of the entrees we eat. The place is typical casual, simple dining tables, four walls, etc. Not much character to it. It would have been great if the waitress told us they only accept cash before we ordered, luckily we had cash on us. If you are traveling for business and need an itemized receipt make sure you ask them to write one for you...they rang our food up as items pretty hard to say what you are paying for or know to compare. read more

Ordered beef salad and there was little to no meat in it! It was just a salad! They employees are rude, they were talking shit about customers after they left the restaurant. My husband and I went there Xmas day last year, and the employees were hanging out on the empty tables talking when they saw a few people walking towards the restaurant and said "hurry and lock the door before they come in! hello guys just though i would write a little something about my fav. noodle shop in stockton. i've been a patrian to this establistment since they open when i was 13-14 years old. before i start talking about the food let me tell you the best way to enjoy this little moms and pops. they have a veriety of meat options which applies to a good portions of their menu, such as but not limited to; beef, pork, seafood, or chicken. when in dout just ask for the combination. the way it works.. Walk in, make eye contact with the servers, and say hi. so they know that your there. they have regulars who comes in every day, so dont be surprise if the regulars greet you before the waiters do. ( there is no host ) go grab a seat it dosn't matter where. just sit your butt down. the waiters will come shortly to give you your menu and ask if you want anything to drink. dont expect your appetizer to come out first, unless your ordering the chow qui (chinese donut). and service will depend on who's waiting on you. there is only one server that dosn't speak perfect english. but if the owner's childrens are there, they will not let you down. after you eat go up to the cashier and pay. dont forget to leave a tip. DRINKS. they dont add lemon to your water but they do add ice.. ( i hate lemon in my water,, I WANT WATER NOT LEMONAID ) their house tea which is free, is a basic jasmine tea served in the typical tin stainless steal tea pot with acouple of white tea cups.. and of course you have your soda's which are served as iced cold 12 oz soda cans acompanied with a glass of ice with a straw. they also have mixed drinks such as coconut, dorian, jack fruit shake and homemade style thai tea.. my wife says that they are the best in stockton.. freshly made all the time and real ingrediants in the coconut shake and what not.. i'm not a big fan of over sweet drinks with my meal so i stick with tea and water. the fried quail " appetizer " this dish is labeled appetizer but expect it to come out with your entree. asian's mom and pops have not yet understood the concept of " la appetizer " hahaha it's more funny then anything. always perfectly cooked lightly seasoned with salt and peppers. and served with a sauce which consist of lemons juice and black pepper. if you never had quail before then your in for a treat. the bird does not taste like chicken. it taste like quail. a fresh quail would come off with the flavor of a perfectly seasoned game bird, without being seasoned, and not gamie at all. this dish is finger food which is probably why they put it under appetizer. and will steal the show if put on the table with any other dishes. ( IT'S NOT PHO. IT'S KA-DieeW the difference is the broth.) the noodles soup. comes with bean sprouts and lime. does not matter on which choice of meat you prefer. the dish is of something you will need to modify to suite your pallet. the original bowl will come with a simple ( my guess ) half beef bone and half chicken broth with a little herb and roasted garlic chunks.and of course rice noodle. i would suggest tasting the variety of seasonings which are supplied for you on your table before you start altering the flavour of the soup. i prefer the simple roster sauce and hoisen sauce myself. my wife is a mix nut and adds alittle bit of everything to it.in my opinion the broth is a perfect canvas for you to create the perfect bowl of noodles with. the " chow-fun " is probably the best in stockton, keep in mind that this is the cambodian version of chow fun. the same situation as the noodle soup. just add alittle of the table side seasonings to get it to suite your pallet perfectly.. there are rice plates and a la carte be carefull what you order or you will order for the whole family and not know it. PRICES the prices is super affordable. averageing $4-5 per bowl of noodles. and if anything else seem alittle prices you should read it over carefully or ask a waiter because chances are your ordering a large dish, or something a la carte... i normally feed me, my wife, and 5 year old son for about $20 or less and that's including tips. ( i normally order a chow qui. 2 bowls of noodles, chow fun, and acouple of soda's ) i hope this review helps. there is more great food then i mentioned. try everything, best to eat with friends/family. dont let the low prices fool you, the food is great. bon apetite!!! read more

The food here is really good, authentic and inexpensive. It's family owned, I literally come here once a week since I first came around 3 to 4 months ago. I order a bowl of beef noodle soup (kathew) with no meatballs and tripe. The Vietnamese version "pho" doesn't even compare. The broth is flavorful and unique. I've dined here several times when I visit my sisters in California and finally remember to leave them a review. Ambience: VERY casual, laid back, mom-and-pop kind of feeling. Just the typical average setting for an Asian family style restaurant, if you know what I mean. So, maybe don't come here for a first date? Food: I've had quite a few dishes here. I won't be able to remember all the names, but I'm trying my best to describe them. - Combination Porridge: LOVE. Just like the Vietnamese Chao Long. Bring back SO MUCH memories. Comes with blood chunks too (which might or might not be your cuppa tea...). Portion is good, we usually order a large to share among 3-4 people. - Sour soup: I think I tried the lemongrass and the pineapple. Very similar to Vietnamese Canh Chua. - Lort Cha (sp?): These are thick, fat, short, round noodle strands that look like they might crawl away when you look elsewhere (!). I usually get the one with beef stir fry & bean sprouts. Full of flavor, hint of smoke coming from being stir-fried in high heat for a short amount of time. - Salad: Cabbage, tomato, fish sauce, fish paste, some kind of rice noodles, all mixed together. You might need chewing gum after eating this, but it's REALLY worth it. - This dish I completely don't remember the name. It's ground pork/ beef stirfried and poured on top of a bed of raw eggplant and other vegetables. The veggies only got heated by the stir frried meat. I've never had raw eggplant before, but oh boy I love this dish. -I also tried other dishes like Pad Thai, Chicken Curry... I remember they were A-Ok, but weren't as mindblowing. Sorry for the vague names/ description, I'll come back and edit once I find out the names. Service: Alright, on par with other Asian restaurants of the same style I guess. Food takes a while to cook, so it might not be a good place if you're in a hurry. CASH ONLY. Bathroom could be a bit cleaner/ nicer. Price: Very affordable. Dishes range from $8- $14 I think, and portion is very generous. Rice-wise, if you come in a group they'll bring a HUGE bowl of white rice. Don't fret, it's family-style. Just scoop however much you want into your individual bowl/ plate. Definitely is a Stockton staple stop for me. read more

As a huge foodie and a professional food researcher, I'm very disappointed in the food at this establishment. I came here upon recommendations from fellow Yelpers. I also brought my Khmer friends from out of town to eat here, but they too were disappointed by the unimpressive delivery and cost. The ingredients used to make the various dishes were not only subpar, but the noodles were stale. The Thai teas were overly sugared and they didn't bother to check on us or bring us our checks. Poor food, poor service, and pricey. The money is better spent on experimenting with Cambodian dishes at home than this place. Too bad the best Cambodian restaurants are in Long Beach. read more

I really want to give this place a good review but I been disappointed twice. The first time, I had Seafood Cantonese Chow Fun n it was too sweet for me. I didn't even finish it. 2nd time, We ordered salaw machu kreung n it was bland. Not enough saltiness (need more pahok or something) in that soup. Angkor salaw machu beef taste better. I don't know how they got 4 stars when the service here isn't friendly n really slow.....ITS NOT EVEN BUSY! That server/cashier look like she don't want to be here or to serve us. Grump! I have been coming to this place whenever I'm in the area since the mid 90s when the mother and father started. The restaurant has been doubled in size now over the years. Please allow me to tell you how I view this restaurant from my perspective. This restaurant is targeting the Cambodian people living in the area. At first, the service was designed or made of for their audience. I know this is America. It should be for everyone. I just wanted to make this one clear. Now, I'm going to put my view. The service itself is not great. Their kids are now grown up. They are working at the restaurant with their parents. Yet, they are doing what they have been doing, the traditional Cambodian way. If you rate their service from the Cambodian perspective, then you would give them high mark. If you come from the American way, the mark should be really low. So please judge it for yourself. Now, let's talk about food. I only eat certain things in Cambodian restaurant. I order almost the same thing all the time whenever I'm there. So I would say the foods are authentic Cambodian foods. I love their foods. The wet fried noodles are so delicious. The Cambodian noodle soup is not bad either. How about the environment of the restaurant. There is a round table by the front window. My relative one day told me that the people sitting there were .....members in the area. That table is special for them. I know about special table when I was in high school. We used to sit at a special table like that, and the foods were free all the time. Finally, I'm going to put this very clear. My system doesn't like MSG ( Mono Sodium Glutanous) well at all. I normally get instant headache whenever I eat alot of it via delicious foods. I'm not certain whether they use it at this restaurant or not. I got headache once or twice from this restaurant. The price is perfect and the food is delicious! If you're a fan of noodle soup, get the Phnom Penh style noodles; you can also get it w/o the soup, which is really good just add the extra hoison, sugar, and hot sauce. So, I'm a vegan, so a lot of the time yelp reviews and my experience of a place don't line up. I am also from San Francisco, and am not all that happy about having to move from there. But, yeah, I was disappointed. I have had many more options and tastier Cambodian in SF. My meat eating companions also agreed that they weren't interested in returning, as their food was too salty. I would SO give the place a 5 star rating IF they accepted debit/credit and IF service could improve. But I will say that the service you get depends on the server you get. My favorite dish is the salaw machu yoeun (probably spelled wrong). Whenever I can't get something from my mother in law, I tend to come here (only after of course attempting the dish at home and probably failing, lol). Their portions are huge and taste is so much better than other restaurants. Their Pho portion is also really good and a lot tastier than Pho Lucky. As for people saying that they've found roaches in their food...I have NEVER found any roaches in my food since I started coming here 3 years ago. I really wish they could accept debit/credit. Yes, this is my favorite Cambodian restaurant in Stockton. I actually don't live in stockton but every time I visit my uncle and I always come here. You won't get fancy smancy food here but what you will get is great home cooked food for cheap. Every Khmer dish on the menu taste just like it would if one of my Cambodian aunts made it.
