The Food: So this is really wear Mitchell's gains all 5 stars and loses just one of them. The deli meats and cheeses are top shelf and unique. They have a number of sandwiches that at this point I'll say are all worth a try. Ive had super meaty hoagies and the seitan hoagies. All were superb. My ONLY gripe, and I acknowledge that this may be a personal problem, is that the hoagie bread almost ALWAYS causes the roof of my mouth to pray for relief. It sadly deters me from going to Mitchell's at times. And I know the bread is all fresh and locally sourced, but sheesh is it a killer some times. Never expected to find Banh Mi in Nashville and I was a little skeptical ordering from a non-Vietnamese restaurant, but this is a place worth testing. This sandwich has it all. The first thing I noticed was the pork, which really stood out. I've never had it pulled pork style but I thought this was an awesome spin on the traditional Banh Mi's I've had, and they give you a generous serving. I've only had the meat grilled and sliced before. Not sure if this was on purpose but the pulled pork style was a great southern take on the sandwich I grew up eating at small Asian shops. The jicama slaw is noteworthy and adds a good pickled crunch to contrast the savory pork. This sandwich had a good ratio of flavorful vegetables and I also appreciated that the bread wasn't too thick or dry to over-mask the pork and other flavors. In summary, I don't think any place could have done it better. My one-star knock off is because the staff unfortunately lost our order. We came on New Year's Eve and while the place was packed and the wait was longer than average for everyone, we knew something was wrong when we had been waiting 40 minutes. Yup. BBQ tofu sandwich. So I didn't expect this sandwich to be good, really. I'm not a vegetarian but I like tofu; not when it's mushy, though. I'm more the Thai tofu sautéed in veggies type of girl. The idea of tofu in a sandwich turned me off. Was it gonna be cold? Mushy? Bland? No, no, and no. This warm sandwich has soft bread, crisp cucumbers, fresh sprouts, smooth avocado, and flavorful tofu. I'm not sure how they make the tofu but it doesn't have a squishy, silken texture like I thought it might. It's also not grilled, I don't think....or maybe it is? Honestly I dunno, the point is the textures and flavors all work really well together. Mitchell's is located in East Nashville. Be aware, for such a busy place, parking is limited to about 8 spots. The restaurant itself is nicely designed with both an indoor and outdoor section with a good amount of seating. From a service perspective the food was sent out quickly and the cashier was nice enough. I started off with a hamburger soup. I could tell it was likely homemade with fresh ingredients, but I personally wasn't a fan of it and the hamburger soup had a scarce amount of hamburger. I tried the Roast Beef sandwich with cheddar. All the ingredients from the roast beef to the hoagie bun to the tomatoes seemed of decent quality. I thought the amount of roast beef was just the right amount. Much like the soup however there wasn't anything amazingly special about the sandwich. It was something I could easily recreate in my house. The food wasn't bad, but not great. Since the prices were fair it might be a good place to grab a quick sandwich at lunch if you are able to find a parking space. read more

The ingredients are fresh, they have unique and interesting sandwiches along with well known classics, and the people working there are pleasant and friendly. They have a great tap list to boot. My one, one complaint, is about their "Cuban" sandwich. Firstly, it has plain sliced ham and soppressata instead of marinated and slow roasted pork. It's not an issue of capability either, as the Bahn MI has house roasted pork. The Cuban just isn't done right. Two pickle spears instead of a layer of sliced pickles. It took me forever to pick out which of the 10 or so sandwiches I wanted for lunch and so I went with a relatively basic choice, the Club, which they knocked out of the park. The sourdough perfectly toasted, the smokiest and most flavorful bacon I've had in a LONG time, perfect all around sandwich top to bottom. My wife went with the turkey + avocado, equally delicious. So I haven't been to Mitchells since Covid happened. It was 5 stars back then. I always got the same thing. The Reuben. It's use to be amazing. NOT ANY MORE! If you go there. DO NOT GET THE REUBEN! They have ruined it. When I took a bite it tasted like they had smeared Dijon mustard all over it. I then tried the "homemade thousand island" on the side and yep. Tasted like Dijon mustard in a cup. I took it to the manager who said "yep tastes very mustardy to me too" a young lady spoke up and said we have another batch in the back. They brought it out and again still mustard. They all swore no mustard was in it. I didn't ask for a refund instead I just tried to leave some feed back for them to go back to the old recipe but the lady told me "Covid messed up their distributor" or some BS like that. Listen guys 1000 island is a very simple recipe lol. Fire who ever made that and decided that it was acceptable to serve to customers. It's gross! And pro tip when a customer is giving you feedback don't tell them how successful you are. You won't be very successful for long trying to get cute and high brow with your recipes and then defending their awful weird taste with arrogance and bs the excuses. Probably won't be back there.
