Came here with an arcade friend on a Saturday afternoon two weeks back and it was one of those AYCE sushi spots that had been on my bucket list for a while now. Like any other AYCE spot, once you've had one variation done by one chain, whether a regional chain, national chain, or indie mom-and-pop shop, you kind of have a pretty good idea of what to expect and this place wasn't that different than Aikan or Aburi, in that regard, insofar as the quality of sushi goes. The only real difference is that this space stays open late--up to 2am most weekends whereas the former two close rather early like at 10pm. This location in Buena Park has their own dedicated free parking lot out in the front with around 5 cars max with a disability parking spot for a total of 6 but they have a larger lot behind the gate that can fit maybe 20 more cars. Due to where the business is located, even if both lots are filled, you can still park at the adjacent plaza which have much more free parking spots for to choose from, if you don't mind the walk. Once inside, the space itself is shaped like an 'L' and there are many 6 tables and chairs immediately in front of you from the entrance plus another 3 tables and chairs to the right from the entrance plus some front of bar seats, possibly 5 on each side of the L-shaped space. Then there's a covered outdoor seating area with even more tables and chairs there as well. They could probably fit about 46 people inside with another 20 outside. Since my friend and I arrived right at as they opened, we got our choice of where to sit, which was inside to the right from the entrance. Tables and chairs were pretty basic wooden tables and chairs. No cushion but they were comfortable enough. Ambiance. It can get loud pretty fast but is otherwise a quaint space. No TV's or music in the background to my knowledge. Service. The lady server seemed nice enough. They take credit cards with no card minimums but there is a POS fee that you have to pay. Seems like a fixed amount of $3.00 for two AYCE dinner options even though we came around lunch time. Menu wasn't the most intuitive as there were some items that are on there but weren't listed as available items to choose from for the ordering sheet. So basically, you get 3 rounds to order on the ordering sheet and any leftovers are charged as additional, which sucks but understandable. I forgot what the penalty was but it's hefty so do be careful with what you order and how much you think you can eat. Most of the AYCE options were just variations of a California roll or tuna roll but with toppings and different sauces so there's really no point in naming which one's that we ate. My buddy ordered the premium stuff that only gave one per order and you can only have one per round. He says those were all fresh and good for what they were. For the most part, every sushi roll we ordered tasted as it should. Nothing out of the ordinary. Tasted fine but nothing really stood out. For $38.99 per person and with the POS fee and sales tax, it's a bit steep. For that same price point, I kind of feel like a regular buffet would be better bang for one's buck these days, post tariffs and post inflation. All in all, I think the overall experience was acceptable but nothing to really write home about. Took my son here after his senior graduation. It was late in the evening getting closer to 10:30 PM and it was crowded which was no issue. We got seated and placed our orders. Food took a little longer than expected, but the first two items were fine. They tasted good and seemed to be served promptly after they were made. That's when things kind of went downhill. We ordered a super spider roll and after waiting about 20 minutes and noticing that people that had just come in were being served their food I flagged down a waiter to ask what happened to our order. He subsequently advised that he just put the order in and that the kitchen was busy. I didn't get a chance to cancel it as he promptly walked away. We got served the super spider roll, and it was just terrible. The tuna was pasty and like dog food. The crab on top was not good at all. I asked for the bill and alerted the cashier that that role was not acceptable and I did not wish to pay for it. We left it on the table, and it was not eaten, except the in pieces that we had tried to establish that we absolutely did not like it. The cashier indicated she would give us 30% off, which I interpreted as 30% off the bill. I informed her I didn't need 30% off the bill as the other items were fine but that the last role was unacceptable and she indicated that she's a cashier and only a manager could do that. I was confused until I saw the bill and figured out what she implied was. She can only give 30% off the role that we didn't like even though we didn't eat it. This is unacceptable. I don't wanna pay for something that is terrible. I didn't eat it. I told them about it and to imply that you're gonna take five dollars off a roll that is un edible is not good service or good business practice at all. This place has a niche and that they are open very late and are very crowded but the location and the outside atmosphere is questionable there was people just hanging around in the front who didn't look like they were guest of the restaurant and just seemed shady altogether. The parking lot was terrible, but that in itself is a different issue. I feel if the food and service were consistent then it would get a better rating. This was hands down the worst dining experience ever. The food quality, service, and management were all abysmal. First, I found a dead fly stuck to my tuna sushi. When I complained, the male server didn't even apologize. Instead, he used his own chopsticks to pick up the contaminated sushi, replaced it with a single piece, and walked away without saying a word. The food itself is a scam. The "$15 Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen" is nothing more than a $2 instant noodle pack from a Korean grocery store with pieces of chashu thrown on top. The salmon belly sushi was spoiled; I had to spit it out immediately. Since eating here, I have had to use the bathroom four times in just three hours. To make matters worse, I requested the bill before we even finished our first round of All-You-Can-Eat. I noticed a "POS Provider Fee" added to the total. There was zero mention of this hidden fee on the menu or anywhere in the restaurant. Does management not know that charging undisclosed hidden fees is illegal? We tried a bunch of different items on the menu and most of which was good! However, there were a few things that were subpar: - Rice itself was dry. - a couple items we ordered never came out - it took a while for our server to check on us That being said, there were some positives! - Miso soup was warm and very tasty - Tempura was crispy and lightly fried! We stopped by here last year on our Disneyland trip and had AYCE. I loved that they didn't make us pay for AYCE for my kids who don't eat sushi at all. The kids only wanted a bowl of ramen. We usually have to avoid going to AYCE restaurants with the kids for this reason because they never eat the food. This was some of the best quality AYCE sushi we have ever had. We loved the mackerel and the seared salmon. Yum! Can't wait to come back again on our next visit. I never write negative reviews but came in on a weekday night when the restaurant wasn't even close to full. There were only a couple small parties ahead of us, yet we still waited 20-30 minutes just to be seated. We watched multiple parties leave while tables sat uncleared, and no one seemed interested in actually seating waiting guests until I finally had to walk up and ask how much longer the wait would be. Unfortunately, the service only got worse from there. After already waiting nearly 30 minutes for our first round of food, I asked one of the servers how much longer it would take and whether the second round would be another long wait too. Instead of giving a helpful answer, he immediately responded with "I don't know," followed by "maybe 20 minutes." When I asked again, shocked that it would be another 20-minute wait, he replied with attitude, "Yeah, the kitchen is backed up." At that point, it wasn't even just the wait -- it was the dismissive attitude and the way he kept talking back instead of trying to help. What made it worse was that he then admitted, "I'm not managing this table." If that's the case, why continue arguing with customers instead of checking with the person who is managing the table so we can get an actual answer? Especially considering this was also the same server I spoke to earlier about the wait for seating, so he clearly knew how long we had already been there. There were also only two servers working, so it's not like communication should have been impossible. By the time the food finally came out, I had completely lost my appetite and didn't eat any of it before leaving.
