We finally tried Gomen in Stanton and were so impressed! It's pretty lowkey from the outside, but once you walk in, the food speaks for itself. We started with the shishito peppers and takoyaki, and the takoyaki was easily some of the best we've had. It came out piping hot, perfectly crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy inside. Since it was such a hot day, we ordered the Hiyashi Chuka (chilled ramen) and the Oroshi Soba Combo with grated radish and tempura. Both were super refreshing and exactly what we were craving. The Hiyashi Chuka had a great balance of flavors with fresh toppings, and the soba was light, chewy, and paired really well with the crispy tempura. The hot tea was a nice touch, and everyone working there was friendly and welcoming. We also loved how extensive the menu is. There are so many Japanese comfort food options that we'll definitely be back to try more. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food in the area, Gomen is absolutely worth a visit. read more

Ive been to Gomen twice now specifically for their jajang ramen. It not the dish that usually people go for at a ramen spot but it is now the sole reason me and my boyfriend keep coming back. It has so many toppings in it that you can get a noodle refill and be completely fine with the amount of stuff left in your bowl to coat the rest of your noodles. The noodles are perfectly cooked and chewy combined with the savory sauce and the meat and diced veggies in the jajang makes a perfect meal. They usually have some pokemon or old anime on the tv playing. The staff is also super attentive and overall a nice chill spot. Theres booth spots, regular tables, and bar seating as well but they can get busy. We've waited 10-20 mins before at a dinner rush so I would recommend avoiding the usual peak hours. read more

Our most favorite Ramen spot for the past 15 years, that must tell ya something! The foods are always meticulously prepared and the service is friendly. They started the 1 free kid meal per family since last year so it has been a great place for families with kids. I wish they would continue to give free ice cream like they used to as that made every visit end with a high note for the kiddos. I think at some point they changed ownership so then they added some Korean items to their menu, but overall the food was still amazing. I love getting ramen from Gomen whenever I am in the vicinity. It's a bit ways out from where I live nowadays but my visits never disappoint. Their service attentiveness and swiftness is quite consistent. This is a family friendly establishment that is almost always bustling no matter what time of the day and week I go. Some days you will see more office workers having a lunch out and some days you will see more families dining out. The seatings inside is not cramped and nicely decorated. I love how they have numerous Black Jack manga series in-print and other Japanese manga books I can read while I wait. Unfortunately or fortunately speaking, once the order is placed, the order comes out FAST!!! I am a fast reader but never gotten through 10 pages at most. And that's on busy days too. It's honestly impressive how fast the turnaround time they consistently have and I very much appreciate that about Gomen ramen. The food itself is absolutely wonderful. I love their takoyaki and any and all of their ramen offerings. I have yet to try their cha-han / fried rice dishes and really want to the next time. Gomen also has a nice lunch combo menu that's really popular. It's a good value given the amount of food you get and the appetizers you can try out. Love it! Ramen toppings and soup can be modified or swapped if you ask nicely. If it isn't their standard protocol, the server is more than happy to ask the chef in the kitchen if it is possible. At that price, especially in Orange County, I assumed it'd be a small bowl. But since Stanton isn't too far from me, I decided to check it out. The place is small and cozy. Before you walk in, you'll spot a proud little sign in the corner window: Champion of the '98 & '99 Nationwide Ramen Competition in Japan - TV Tokyo "Ichiban (Best) Ramen in the World" - BBC (Yep, I found the BBC article too and took a screenshot!) Got seated quickly and noticed from the wall photos that it's a family-run spot. I just made it before their 2 PM break, and there were still several tables dining. To save time, I ordered the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen Lunch Special (other options include Tonkotsu Soy Ramen and Tonkotsu Salt Ramen). Service was fast. The bowl size was standard, definitely not small and came with three slices of chashu! The broth was rich and savory, the noodles had a nice bite and honestly, super satisfying and such a great deal. Anywhere else nearby, ramen of this quality easily goes for $15+. Even outside lunch hours, it's still affordable, the same Tonkotsu Miso Ramen is just $11.95. I visited on a Friday evening right after they opened and it was perfect timing, no wait and we were promptly seated. The staff were friendly and service was quick from start to finish. One of the highlights was the complimentary Mango Cart ice foam they added to my draft beer. It was something totally new to me and such a fun twist! I would definitely order it again. It's such a shame because this place used to be so much better and a gem of a ramen shop. I gate kept this place and it really is a shame from what is it has become. As a family we used to visit gomen on multiple occasions before the pandemic and it was nice to see that the food is even better than before. In total we ordered the veggie ramen (with spinach noodles) (8/10 used to have more veggies but the soup and noodles was nostalgic), pork meat lovers (10/10), kids ramen with gyoza (10/10) and side of fried rice, takoyaki (10/10) and the Jjajang ramen. This was the first time I tried the Jjaiang ramen and I actually enjoyed this more than my usual soup ramen. I ordered with mushrooms as well. Super delicious! (9/10) The broth is always very flavorful and brings so much comfort. Spinach noodles are definitely a family go to, always well cooked and adds fun to the ramen. The kids meal is great and very plentiful in portion with a side that gives kids a change to enjoy more than just ramen. I am a fan favorite of takoyaki and loved how soft and crunchy it came out. They are clearly being cheap or taking shortcuts because the broth is more watered down than when they first took over the place. Our first experience here was great with our server as he was really attentive to my boyfriend's dietary restrictions. When he mentioned he was vegan, the server actually informed us that the noodles have egg in it and to swap it out for spinach. Since it was our 2nd visit here, we didn't remember the egg noodles until my bowl came out. We flagged the server down and once again mentioned his dietary restriction and asked if it's too late to sub out the noodles. He mentioned the ramen was already done but could ask the kitchen. We offered to pay for that bowl and taking it to go while they just made a new one for us that was 100% vegan. He said it was fine and they would just remake it. When his food came out, the server lectured us about next time to let him know of any "special requests" that we had ahead of time even though he did mention he was VEGAN when ordering. I nicely informed him we had only been there 1 other time so didn't remember that the noodles were egg noodles. My boyfriend also chimed in saying that we knew it was our mistake and was why we offered to pay for that bowl to go and have them make another one. The server said it wasn't a big deal but continued lecturing us and stating they had to waste an entire bowl of ramen. When my boyfriend received his bowl it was clear to see that they didn't throw it away as the server claimed since his bowl was extremely messy. Great meal at Gomen on Thursday, 12-11-25. I enjoyed a Kakuni Deluxe with spinach noodles and an extra egg, with a side of kimchi. I also selected the "heavy" broth. Server Kevin explained it has a bit more fatty content and flavor. He was right. Kevin also answered my question, "How do I use the secondary bowl in the to-go packages." I had always removed it and simply dumped all leftovers into the large bowl. Kevin explained that the toppings go in the upper bowl and the broth goes in the bottom. This keeps the toppings from becoming soggy. I learned something new today! I've eaten here for years. The new owners seem to have found their game after a bit of a rocky start. I've heard many good recommendations of this restaurant and I was a little disappointed with what I ordered. I ordered the Jjajang Ramen and it was so heavy, yet flavorless. The noodles were a little undercooked and didn't absorb the sauce that well. The toppings in the sauce were chopped into really big pieces, making them undercooked as well. The kakuni deluxe ramen was gigantic - as filling as getting an extra noodle large at another restaurant. Broth was tasty, lots of toppings and the kakuni meat had a drier, shredded meat feel than other kakuni meat but was still good. Cheese katsu curry had a lot of curry sauce. Maybe only half the bowl was rice - the half with the katsu on top. The rice was filling though, meaning you're almost guaranteed a curry takeaway for another meal. Would recommend both. read more

Haven't visited here in a while and popped in this evening. Remember when this place was good? Say goodbye to those days. Was kindly greeted and when told I was a party of one, told to sit at the bar. I would normally sit at the bar anyway, but felt weird to be ushered to do so when there were maybe four tables sat. Onward to ordering, I was scanning the QR code when the server-in-training came to greet me. After a short greeting, he started walking away with the menu, had to ask for the paper menu he was holding already. Menu is... different. Clearly Korean owners now (rather than previous owners that left the experience feeling more... Japanese). I was able to order my previous option: Miso with chicken broth. The geeen noodles are long-gone now. The combo, which used to be a great deal, is now $6 for anything you order. Absurd. I was hungry so I also ordered the chicken curry. The server was standing behind me to my right and the owner/manager/trainer was sticking his head over the bar watching everything. Interjected a few times and I guess there was an option for shredded chicken or karrage chicken with the curry. I opted for karrage. Food came out promptly, which was appreciated. Miso ramen: tasted like miso, but was sweet. O tried to douse it with the red chili flakes that used to be so, so good. It's now a mild Korean chili powder with almost no flavor. After a few futile attempts at spicing up my soup, I gave up. The curry tasted ok as well, but also sweet. The karrage was a decent but felt overcooked (not quite burned but clearly overcooked). But in a vast bowl of curry, I received the tiniest portion of white rice. Ok, Korean-owned restaurants usually give white rice for free, I'll request when I'm ready for it. Contained eating and realized the food wasn't just sweet, it was super salty. I was drinking cup after cup of water and still parched. I realized the broth was so salty/sweet that I finished all my noodles without much soup. "I should ask for noodles," I thought to myself. I finally had a chance to request more rice, prefacing that there was way too much curry for the serving of rice. And with a rehearsed "oh noooo" face, goes "sorry....but...." And I could tell immediately he was going to say some BS about rice costing extra. Quickly (and rudely) interjected that an extra fee is fine. Just get me my rice. White rice came, followed shortly after the check. A few things to note: 1. White rice was $2.50. How absurd to give too little rice for an already overpriced dish, and then throwing an extra $2.50 charge for the rice. 2. The menu showed the curry as $14.50, but the check showed $15.50 I was just dine at that point. Just left my cash and walked out. Won't be returning until I read reviews indicating there's new ownership (again). But I really miss the 2012-Gomen. When ownership seemed to care about quality of food. Not just dumping salt, msg, and sugar to trick customers' brains into loving the food. P.s. there are also signs indicating they change for takeout containers. For me, the food is so so and okay but it is a bit pricy between $13 and $16.95 ( original ramen).
