This is one of the best places in orange county for Korean style fresh sashimi. People coming here expecting Japanese sushi will be disappointed. And they deserve to be for their ignorance. Order the sashimi Korean style. Eat it. Loads of banchan. So fresh. Don't order rolls. Don't be a stupid idiot ordering crunchy rolls. read more

I had gone to this restaurant some time ago and had a great dinning experience. Last night my husband and I went for our anniversary and had quite possibly, one of the worst Japanese meals of our lives. Every dish presented to us just missed it's mark. We ordered yellow tail and octopus and it tasted like it had been prepared hours ago. Still, we braved on thinking it was just a glitch. The very nice server (and this is why I gave them one star) brought out a lobster roll and it looked completely different from the picture. We got what looked like a dessert covered in sweet, oh so sweet, sauce and not even resembling a roll. Still we forged on, thinking the chef just got carried away. We felt adventurous and ordered cold noodles. These were not bad and so we thought things had taken a turn for the better. Then just like that, my chicken teriyaki arrives looking like scrapes from the kitchen and tasting rubbery! How do you ruin a standard dish like this?! If this meal is a foreshadowing of what is to come in our marriage, baby we're in trouble. read more

Went to Miyako for a late lunch. I had eaten here before when it had a different owner. First of all the place is roomy, very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the food leaves much to be desired. The only thing worth having was the small bowl of miso, that came with the dinner. The salad was tough and old. The dressing, tasteless. The tempura had a hard crust, with all the Japanese restaurants I have gone to, this was a first. The udon noodles, which usually come in a miso broth, came in a fish broth. Little plates of endame looked as if they sat out all day. This owner has to step up to the plate and offer his customers, fresh, attractive food. read more

Place was horrible. Me and my mother went to go eat and in the salmon skin salad we ordered was something unrecognizable. It definitely wasn't salmon skin or vegetables. We didn't notice until after we finished eating and when pointed out the waitress took it away telling us that there vegetables was pre-washed. Then they asked if we wanted the meal remade to take home. We refused because who knows what's in the "pre-washed" vegetables! They didn't even take it off our check. Under new management. Looks really good from the outside, looks great on the inside. My Husband ordered iced tea. It was delicious. They gave us a complementary grand opening salad, that was a nice gesture, but tasted just okay. We each ordered a cooked roll and they both weren't very good. A little on the small side and one had frozen vegetables in it. I think that was the dynamite roll. Yuck. We also order a lobster roll. It was really dry and for 16 bucks sure wasn't much there. I ordered a California roll because I was still a little hungry, it was okay. This place also serves live sushi, so if that grosses you out, I wouldn't sit at the bar. :/ Oh and chef was talking to someone else the whole time and was really loud, Also the server was preoccupied and didn't pay any attention to us. We had to flag down someone every time we needed a refill. Hopefully the kinks are worked out and it's a great sushi place now, but as far as the grand opening goes, it was a bust. read more

having worked in the area for 2 years and knowing about this place i finally came here today for the first time to try it out. the problem was not that it was a Korean style Japanese restaurant (I've been to a few that were excellent), however it was the lack of attentive service for the prices that you are paying for mediocre sushi. ordered a scallop and spicy tuna cut rolls. both were marginally average although presentation was decent. the plus is that they do give you complementary hot tea and an appetizer of radishes and glass noodles. I've pretty much known this place was not so great for the price but i had to try it at lease once. probably won't be coming back. read more

I have to agree with John in the review below, I so wanted to like this place, it began with a nice complimentary salad, complimentary miso soup, and nice service....that's where it went downhill. I ordered the chirashi bowl...$22 for 16 pieces of fish..sounded like an ok deal...I was so wrong! The fish was the most rubbery, not freshing tasting sushi that I have ever had. It was basically 4 cuts of 4 different types of fish, with parts of the skin left on ALL of the fish, it tasted like I went to a Vons or Ralphs, bought fish from the fish department and tried to make sushi myself at home...actually maybe not even that good. This happened last night, and I seriously am up at 4:00 a.m. in the morning with my stomach twisting and turning...something was so not right about that sushi! read more

This place is so nice inside, they really did a fantastic job on the interior design of this place, very tranquil and calming. In the process of having the most beautiful sushi bar around something gots to give, which means the sushi is a bit on the pricey side. Sushi is already expensive as it is, but this place charges you an arm & a leg for some uncooked seafood. The sushi is good, it's not phenomenal. Is it worth the price it's set at? I don't think so, I'd rather go down the street to Niko Niko and pay less for about the same quality. The service is good, no problems there. They've got green tea ice cream that looks just like wasabi it's pretty funny, you can freak out your friends like I did mine. While you're friends are not looking, take the ice cream and place it on your sushi plate next to the ginger to make it look like wasabi, then make a bet with them to put the whole thing of "wasabi" in your mouth... they will be amazed lol funny stuff. read more

The food is just ok but the review is for the service and wait time for the food. Each entree was brought out with a 10 minute gap in between so my table each ate our dishes alone. Pretty solid Korean-owned Japanese/Korean restaurant. Based on other reviews, it looks like service and pricing are the primary concerns for the establishment. I came here with my grandfather on a Saturday around 7pm and the place was only about half full so we were seated immediately. There was no issue with service as my grandfather would click the button on the table for any requests he had (there's a little button attached to the table that you can click that will make a doorbell kind of jingle to get a server's attention immediately). I can't confirm if they arrive promptly on busier nights, but they arrived quickly after each press. Both of us ordered the hwaedubap (one of a million spellings), which consists of a very large bowl filled green leaves, sesame oil, and fish (salmon and white-fleshed fish). You also get a side of rice you can mix in. You don't get a whole lot of fish, but it's a fairly typical amount. You also get a side of rice to mix in with the bowl (as well as a bowl of miso soup to slurp on the side). There is also a red sauce (I believe it's a mixture of gochujang (red pepper paste) and apple cider vinegar) people typically generously add to their bowl before mixing everything together. I highly recommend this dish if you love raw fish and have an affinity for sesame seeds (as the sesame oil taste permeates the whole dish rather nicely). The dish is a bit expensive (I believe around $18 each) for the amount of sashimi that is added to the bowl, but it is a very good and filling meal that doesn't make you feel too guilty about finishing as it is on the healthier end of foods. You should also take into account you get free banchan (mini Korean side dishes/appetizers). Pro-tip: if you finish a side dish you like, ask for more (Korean restaurants will usually do this no problem). My grandfather also got additional miso soup upon request (although this could be because he's a regular). Reason for 4-stars instead of 5: -The food is a bit pricey (although this was somewhat expected of these types of restaurants, I expect something a little different to get that distinction from other similar-type restaurants). -The menu seemed to lack some preferable options (sushi rolls, various Korean traditional dishes) All-in-all, it's a decent restaurant that's worth visiting, especially for the hwaedubap. Be sure to remember you have that button on your table for service! read more

Miyako is my new favorite place for sushi! I've been telling all my friends and family about miyako for months now and I finally got around to writing a review. I first came here last year and I did not have the best experience. The fish quality was not that great and service lacked a little as well. However, I came back sometime in January and was greeted by unfamiliar faces which turned out to be the best blessing in disguise! The store is under new management and the fish quality as well as the service got SO much better. I think the portion are amazing for the price you pay. One thing I love about this place is that there are options for people who love raw fish (sashimi) and people who don't (there is a large selection of baked rolls and hot food as well. Another thing I loved about the service this time around is the management came around made sure everything was running smoothly. It just felt so personal and I was impressed. I will definitely be back for more. Don't let the older one star reviews dissuade you from eating here, you'll be passing up a great gem. read more

I have been going to this place for about 2 years now. I have never had any problems. I recently went there with my wife and kids for dinner. Sushi was falling apart this time and the service was slow. I got the check and it was $41.24. I was running low on cash and didn't have a big tip this time. I am not a cheap person I will always tip when the service is good. I left $44 on the table and as we were walking out the waitress ran to the door and said "I don't understand where is my tip" I looked and my wife and said is she serious. The waitress again said "I did not get a tip?, where is my tip?." My wife then said to her that we have no more money, and the waitress said again "how come no tip." I reached into my wallet and just gave her $5 and we walked out. I have never in my life been chased out of a restaurant for not tipping. We will never go back here again. I came here for dinner on a saturday around 8 and there a was about 5 people in the restaurant. I thought there would be more people seeing as it was happy hour and drinks and sushi was half off I guess it's a special because of their re grand opening. Our party of 7 was greeted as soon as we walked in and were seated quickly.There was a good vibe in the joint, although the hiphop playing in the background kinda threw me off. I'm not sure how long this place has been open but they definitely didn't have their act together. Our food didn't come out together and by the time the last person was served, the first plate was cold. We brought it to the attention of our sever and he apologized by bringing us a roll on the house, then he brought over some sake! also on the house. when we finally finished and he proceeded to ask if we would like some fried ice cream. I was full but when he said it would be on the house, I suddenly found some room for ice cream. All in all, everybody was satisfied with the food and they more than made up for delay in our service. read more
