I ventured out of my usual, Korean togo options and decided to try this place out via postmates, and Sodam was just that; straight forward, traditional Korean eats, fermentation-heavy and well executed. It's hard to find a good authentic Korean places to eat in Orange County and Sodam is one place you're guaranteed yummy food if you're willing to drive 40 minutes from Huntington Beach to Fullerton. Sodam was introduced to me by my sister who recently moved to Buena Park and found some good authentic a Korean food places to eat and Sodam happens to be one of them. Most of the dishes at Sodam are responsibly priced, good portions and super yummy. Some of our favorites dishes are the daktoritang (spicy chicken stew) and their haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) and their their octopus bibimbap in the stone pot and their gamjatang (spicy pork neck stew). Everything in their menu is worth trying and it's reasonable priced and good portions. They use fresh ingredients and reminds me of my mother's home style cooking. All the dishes are super flavorful and you never feel heavy & sick even when you overeat. The staff at the restaurants are always kind and helpful and despite how busy they are, they manage to take care of you. Great service and the best part is we always have a bunch of leftovers to take home and their food is always consistent. The restaurant isn't big, but it's nice and quiet place to eat in a clean environment. Don't get fixated on the 1 star reviews or the lack of reviews and they're not complaining about the food quality, either. Give this place a chance and it might turn out to be a gem for you. The first thing I did after driving back from Palm Springs was look for Korean food. I mean 3 days without white rice and kimchi is serious!!! Anyhow, ended up at this restaurant. They serve 6 banchan's. I guess they offer shareable combo meals for larger parties but they also have traditional soups, stews and other dishes for one person. I ordered the short rib miso soup with sun dried greens (radish leaves, long cabbages, etc.). It's supposed to have a super dose of vitamins in concentrated form. The soup broth was very good, just the right amount of garlic in the miso. The meat was very tender. The banchans were all delish, esp the squash and cucumber kimchi. Their brown rice is cooked to al dente. It's a small portion but they will give you another bowl if you ask. Service was perfunctory. My first time here after they changed management/ownership. I got sulungtang and my grandma got the (oogeoji galbi soup). Both tasted good. The soup of the galbi one was a bit spicy but refreshing. The sulungtang was typical flavors. DooRi is known primarily as a soup house and for their signature dish, seolleongtang - a Korean style ox bone and beef brisket soup. Their $5.99 seolleongtang lunch special is as good a deal as you will find. The soup is hearty and comes with generous slices of beef brisket. You can also request the soup with either white rice noodles or cellophane (glass) noodles and entrails in addition to the brisket. Season to your taste preference with salt, pepper, chopped green onions and red pepper. The broth was milky white in color, had a nice velvety texture and a good essence of beef. A tasty, good quality soup that is well worth the price. Additionally, DooRi Restaurant has a good selection of other menu items so finding a dish you will enjoy should not be too difficult. Like most Korean diners, pictures of each dish is plastered all over the walls of the restaurant and their menu is also filled with pictures of each dish along with a brief description. Their banchan included ripened radish kimchi, lightly marinated bean sprouts, cucumber and garlic chives kimchi and fresh Napa cabbage kimchi with raw oysters. I absolutely love this selection and its taste and preparation. I have yet to find a 'bad' dish of the many I have tried here. My favorites are among the following dishes: Seolleongtang, $5.99 Gamjatang (pork stew with potato), $8.99 Kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), $6.99 Galbitang (beef rib soup), $6.99 Doganetang (beef tendon soup), $8.99 Dwaeji Bossam (steamed pork with vegetables), $21.99 I really enjoyed the dweji bossam because the steamed pork belly had a lot of flavor and comes with Napa cabbage that had been soaking in salt water for hours. The steamed pork wraps were accompanied with moo cheh (spicy seasoned Daikon radish) ssamjang (spicy chili and soy bean paste), saeujeot (pickled fermented shrimp), sliced jalapeno peppers and raw garlic cloves. This preparation is the most traditional and still the best in my opinion. I also liked their galbitang. It is a rich but delicately seasoned beef rib soup made from short ribs, Korean radish, and glass noodles. DooRi's version of this delicious soup came topped with dried jujubes to give it some texture and some sweetness. No additional seasoning was needed. Priced at only $6.99, it is also another outstanding deal for this near equally popular soup. Their dishes and banchan would seem to indicate that the food is influenced by the southern regions of South Korea which is known to more readily use saeujeot in its kimchi, prepare it with oysters and generally make its food more salty and briny. I like the variety of menu items and the banchan at DooRi. Their seolleongtang lunch special was a real winner (tasty soup with oyster kimchi at a bargain price) and they offer good Korean comfort food at very reasonable prices. read more

I'm always on the search for a place that sells single individual orders of gamjatang since I live with non-adventurous eating people. I usually get a gamjatang ($10.49) whenever I eat here. Plenty of tender meat that fell off the bones and was quite spicy as well. The broth with green onions, potato leaves and ground wild sesame seeds was pretty tasty too.There was also a dipping sauce with hot mustard to dip the meat into as well. They also give heukmi chapssal (black/purple rice). Their banchan was kimchi, blanched cabbage with doenjang (fermented soybean), bokchoy kimchi, and turnip kimchi. We needed water and side dish refills but never came to our table nor tried to make eye contact with us when she was serving the table right next to us. They're so lazy, might as well not work then. The small and humble interior consisted of solid lighting, wall menu and food pictures posted all around, and three rows of tables arranged for big and small groups. We were the only ones that evening, and the ambiance was relaxed and unassuming. The Beef Tendon Soup ($8.99) came with bulky pieces of tendon stockpiled at the bottom of a steamy creamy bone marrow broth. The broth was rich, delicious, and piping hot to accompany a generous mix of chewy and soft tendon. I added a spoon of salt, red kimchi sauce, and a bowl of rice to fill the soup to the brim before slowly working my way to the bottom of the bowl. I recommend it. The Beef Short Rib Soup ($8.99) came with an abundant amount of ribs, eggs, jujubes, clear noodles, and scallion. The broth was above average, but not as amazing as the one at Han Yang and Seongbukdong. It's probably my top choice of dishes to choose from, but I would not hesitate to order it when I'm craving for Kalbi Tang. Wes S was generous to share the Pork Neck Soup and Bossam. The Pork Neck Soup had a robust broth that was spicy with a nice depth of seasoning and pork neck flavors. To my surprise, the pork neck was fall-off-the-bone tender and nicely seasoned. Additionally, I thought the Bossam, or Pork Belly Wraps was a bit on the fatty side, but the meat was tender and more superior to the one at the Kobawoo House. Even though they are "DooRi Sullungtang" in Korean, I don't think sullungtang (ox bone soup) is their best dish. I mean their sullungtang is okay, but one should definitely explore outside of it. Their gamjatang, aka pork neck soup is great. It comes loaded with generous amounts of pork neck pieces and veggies. I love the ground wild sesame seeds they sprinkle generously over the soup. Their soup is the more the thicker style probably because of collagen and fat which I don't mind at all. I was craving kimchi jjigae so I decided to check this place out since I have driven by it a few times and it's close by. The restaurant was about 3/4 full and they were all older Korean peeps. I felt so young there! I guess this is the spot for older Koreans. It's very hole in the wall too. There was only one waitress working but she did a good job. I was greeted right away and she took my order and the food came out at a reasonable time. I was worried when I saw the "Help Wanted" sign, one waitress, and the restaurant being 3/4 full that I would receive poor service or the food would come out slow. I also ordered pork belly "wraps" which came with boiled (?) pork belly, kimchi, and lettuce wraps so you can create your own "wraps" and just munch away. I really wish I liked this place. I went here with my family on a Monday morning and we were probably one of the first customers of the day. We were served by a waitress that definitely looked like she did not want to be there. She never smiled Anyway, I wanted to get their Sulungtang and one of the options is either with beef or beef intestines. I LOVEEEEE beef intestines, so no doubt, that's what I'm getting. Unfortunately, but she said they were out... I mean, idk, they either had a flock of people come and get beef intestines at 10am or they just did not restock their stuff. I got it with just the beef, sadly, but life goes on... except when you eat their food because shortly after, I got a major headache, probably from the MSG in their soups, and I had to sleep the rest of the day. Have a hangover? This is the right place to cure it. Coming from a non Korean person who grew up with Koreans, this place isn't your typical KBBQ joint or your typical tofu soup joint, its more a Korean specialty soup restaurant. Suprisingly they serve my favorite soup of all time which is Sulangtang. Its a clearish milky type ox tail soup with noodles and cuts of beef. It comes with rice and your usual Korean side dishes. It's not the best Sulangtang I've ever had but it cured by Sulangtang fix. The other soup I recommend is the beef rib soup, which is kind of like oxtail soup with beef ribs and clear noodles. Overall this place is pretty good and cures my cravings for soup. Its cheap the lady is very nice and provides excellent service. If you had a little too much to drink the night before, then this place is the spot to cure your hangover. read more
