Me and my friends came in here on a Monday night and we were pleasantly greeted by the staff and sushi chefs. My first thought was... it looks really nice inside of here -- spacious and bright! While I was browsing the menu, I wanted to order every roll because they all looked so good haha. For appetizers, we ordered the mixed tempura and baked mussels .... I swear to you it was the most crisp and airy tempura I have ever had they were also served fresh out of the fryer which I appreciated because I could tell it was freshly made!!! For our main course, we got four different rolls including the Ben roll, rock n roll, a baked roll, and a veggie roll. They were all so delicious, but I was especially surprised by how yummy the veggie roll tasted! The fish quality was on point with all of the rolls I ordered so I decided to order more to take home for my family. They LOVED the yellowtail roll and California hand rolls!!! I also can't forgot the complimentary side dishes they gave us in the beginning of our meal. Miso soup, pickled radish, japchae noodles (there's more but I forgot what they're called).... My stomach was so satisfied by the end of the meal. In regards to the service, all of the staff that served my table was so friendly. Decided to go to Miyako on a Friday night w/ a couple of friends as one of them was particularly craving good Japanese food... Both this friend & I had been to Miyako's several times previous and really enjoyed the cuisine & friendly service as well (usually on a Thurs. or Fri. night, typically); didn't frequent it often as it was a little pricier than the usual choices for a non-occasion meal. We walked in and were pleasantly impressed w/ the new, updated, & trendy decor... which actually didn't seem to 'fit' the atmosphere quite as integrated as the previous just-fine decor, however... We had no idea the ownership was the "new" change there. We dismissed the initial being passed-over Asian clientele to be seated... We were abruptly asked for our drink order before even being in our seats. Let me now highlight the reasons why in "MI" opinion this place [now] is very..."YUK-o": -we were continually overlooked as patrons as any Asian ones were the more-than-obvious priority...especially if male [this might be their 'cultural' tendency, however it is just NOT conducive to either good business or keeping one as returning customers. -they no longer give a standard edamame & picked cucumber appetizer gratis (as a Mexican cuisiine restaurant might give chip & salsa); edamame was available for a cost, & then was quite tasteless. -water was brought ONCE, & without ice [didn't even ask if this was the preference]... even when the empty plastic cup was placed on an elevated ledge so that SOMEone [server] would "notice"...it wasN'T. -an incorrect entree was first brought to the table [salmon "salad" as opposed to teriyaki salmon]; at first it appeared to just be a salad (none of the 'sides' that go w/ a dinner describe what you "get" w/ the entree... usually soup & salad etc. @ Asian restaurants in general... not here. The dressing was disgusting & then...the very FISHY salmon...was "found"; when questioned, we were told it was "on house"... obviously ONLY because they got the order WRONG -someone in our party ordered tempura shrimp...uh, NOT 'panko' shrimp which tasted like "cornflakes" -ONE entree was brought... and OVER 20 MINutes LATER... the others were, with no apologies, of course... -and asked for items [ie. replacing the empty soy sauce container or the desired pickled ginger] were NEVER attended to; while inquiring about these particular previously-promised items... the 'waitress' DARTED her attentions to an Asian customer beside us -the meal was paid for, but begrudgingly so. When our sentiments of all these ill-treatments received as diners, NO part of the meal was comped, NO apologies were made, NO "freebies" were offered. The statement made by the continually nodding lady taking the money was: "I teach them what you say"... oh, yes, I'm counting on THAT... -I have NEVER before taking the time to write up an exceedingly poor dining experience, until now. That would be because it was the worst EVER. I do believe in accolades for a job WELL done, however. IF they had @ the very least made some sort of amends, I would not be on YELP @ this moment. Next time, I will check w/ Yelp first... THEN I would have KNOWN how horrible this place has become: We echo the sentiments of many others below... The only reason to go to Miyako now is if you want overpriced, overcooked [COLD teriyaki chicken...believe it or "not", food with absolutely no helpful staff...who might even act perturbed if you "disturb" them...like they did us; then GO? I have been going here for a while. I have tried their sushi as well as their chicken teriyaki. We always order the Teki Roll, it is always fresh. The chicken teryaki has just the right amount of sauce on it. just enough to mix with the steamed rice they serve. The Tempura that comes with is very tasty and not oily. Their dinners come with Miso soup, salad and dessert. They usually have green tea ice cream, which is incredible. One time they had a red bean ice cream, sounds weird but was delicious. Almost tasted like strawberry. I only gave them 4 stars for the following reasons: their wait service lacks once they start to get a little busy, the place sometimes smells too much like fish ( I know its a sushi place but sometimes its too extreme), andd their bathroom could be taken care of much better. On recommendation by a friend I thought i would give this place a try. Walking it it was beautiful. Lots of natural rock floor and big smooth river rock on the walls. There's a large sushi bar that dominates the center of the restaurant and all around it are nice tables. Immediately i notice this isn't a Japanese restaurant. Miyako is actually a Korean restaurant with sushi and teriyaki along with Korean dishes. My party sat up at the sushi bar and were promptly served. There is a large variety of Sashimi dinners that range everywhere from $25-$130. I'm expecting this is the type of place that families will go to and order one of the expensive sashimi plates to share and then order individual cooked dinners. Our Sashmi plate came with 20 slices, 4 each of Salmon, Tuna, Red Snapper, Bass, and Yellow Tail. Everything was very fresh with a nice delicate flavor. We also ordered two rolls. one was essentially a spicy tuna roll that had been tempura fried and the other was a Rainbow Roll with spicy tuna instead of California roll inside. I surprised myself by liking the fried roll. It's rare for me to like any sushi that has been cooked. The other roll could have done without. For some reason the whole thing felt a little mushy in the mouth. Dinner was served Korean style with little side dishes. I came back after four months of avoiding this place like the plague. I decided to give it another chance because I believe everyone deserves second chances, and I have got to say I was pleasantly surprised. It appears that Miyako is now under new management! The service has gotten so much better (friendly staff) and their food is amazing as well. The portions you get for the price you pay are an absolute deal. Dropped in to try the place and honestly was surprised. I didn't want to get anything fancy and was honestly in the mood for salmon so I got a salmon roll and the poke salad. I was expecting a tiny salad and roll but the salad was huge and had a lot of chopped shashimi on top. The roll was excellent and was 8 pieces! The only downside was the waitress. There are only two tables other than mine and she would walk by me constantly and would not refill my water or clear my plates even when I was completely finished with my meal. One of the best sashimi places I've eaten! You really do get what you pay for! Assorted sashimi platter had so many types of seafood, I really enjoyed their assorted fish soup, deep and rich with flavors. On top of that, you get many many many side dishes that you won't get if you go to typical Japanese sushi place, this is Korean style sashimi place. Their rolls are good, but I personally think their specialty really is in their sashimi. Also, try their Fish Egg Rice bowl (kind of like Chirashi, but instead with different type of fish eggs) I really loved it. Service was good. Food was mediocre. Spider roll & jalapeño bomb I admit was great. However everything else was blah. Spicy tuna handroll on soy paper is what I always get. I'm used to the white soy paper with black sesame seeds. Those melt in your mouth. The one here is on pink soy paper which was thick and chewy. Crunch roll was everything but crunch with stale shrimp tempura. Baked salmon roll was the nastiest. Cold cold cold CA roll with half baked salmon on top. Yuck. Cucumber roll was ok, but honestly how can you go wrong with plain ol cucumbers? Udon was basically instant noodle soup with fresh veggies. Miso soup was watered down and lukewarm. I don't understand how this place only has 3 stars. I come here all the time, my family and I are regulars here and we bring all our friends, other family members to dinner here. This place has everything you want in terms of Japanese Cuisine. They give out endless amount of the korean side dishes, quality of the fish is great, and service is quick. Food comes out fast and it is the perfect restaurant for me and my family. We've been coming here for years and I thought it was about time I write a 5 star review. We went to this restaurant to take my elderly aunt to dinner near her house. From the name it seemed to be an authentic Japanese restaurant. However, we quickly learned that Koreans should maybe stick to their own cuisine because this restaurant was horrible. On the way in I joked that we should eat at Chipotle across the street unaware of the dining experience we were about to have. When we arrived there were few people here and the service started out alright. However, as soon as the restaurant began to fill up, we felt as though we could have gone into the back and cooked our own food faster than the service was. They bring you a watery miso soup to begin, and then a soggy iceberg lettuce salad on it with what tasted like rotten kimchee juice on top. I have definitely had better salad at other restaurants. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento, which was one of the most atrocious things that I have ever seen. Out of all of the chicken only about 2 small pieces were edible. The tempura was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Why the hell would you fry a piece of parsley? No sane person would want to eat that crap for dinner. Overall the tempura was average.\ The real kicker was the sushi nachos that was "compliments of the chef". I dont know where this chef learned to cook fusion cuisine, but a Korean chef trying to cook Mexican-Japanese fusion cuisine was just an epic fail. They brought us tortilla chips with unidentifiable meat, a chili sauce that was supposed to look like melted cheese and avocado. Perhaps the worst fusion attempt I have seen yet. We also got a free salad with watery tofu on top that no one dared touch as well. My uncle tried to order more rice 3 times, which the waitress just happened to forget every time. I clocked the time between waitress appearances just out of curiousity's sake, and at one point it was 35 minutes. Unacceptable. This restaurant clearly plays favorites to the Koreans so if you aren't Korean don't even bother trying to ask for anything. Dessert was coffee ice cream served with plastic spoons. Really?? Plastic spoons. This place tries to call itself a restaurant but it clearly needs more than just a little bit of help. Just a quick comment on the facilities. The restrooms were poorly maintained with no toilet paper. Disgusting. On the way out of the restaurant, I found what was perhaps the best part of it. The free bubble gum and suckers :) woo hoo.
