Stopped by to get some wasabi because every store in the area had empty shelves and nothing available. There was literally no customers in the restaurant eating and I asked for some wasabi and offered to pay for it. The workers said to talk to the owner. The owner was disgustingly rude and said no so I offered to buy a dish and they replied "there won't be wasabi still." This is an awful way to run a business. I will never be back and no one I know will ever visit. No wonder you have no customers. I have never been treated with such terrible customer service at a restaurant. It is literally your only purpose to serve the community food. Why are you even in the business? I picked up from a different restaurant and they gave me 3x extra wasabi for free. This restaurant is nice and pretty big with a full bar near the entrance. Came during dinner time and got seated right away. I ordered the bento box dinner and went with the three items. Had the chicken teriyaki, potato croquette and salmon sashimi. It also comes with a salad, steamed rice, miso soup and ice cream of your choice. The chicken teriyaki was like any other teriyaki, pretty standard. The potato was ok. A little on the harder side than I would have liked. The sashimi was good though. Miyozen has super fresh and reasonably priced Sushi and a really great wait staff. Its environment is quaint and they have a sushi belt that starts at 5pm. Its also quiet, so eating here my family could talk without a ton of noise. My new favorite Japanese restaurant! read more

This sushi joint is A-okay! Been here twice so far. Dined in the first time for lunch and had the bento box which was pretty average. Ordered a DoorDash pickup the second time and got the Koryo dragon roll. The roll was actually quite tasty. It seems to me the restaurant is always open but I hardly see any customers. It looks pretty empty and slow. It's not a very exciting place but it's right next to my place. So I might come back just for convenience. Wish they could be better though. read more

Very good. Definitely worth more than the current 3 1/2 star rating it has. The rice was warm and sticky, cooked just right. Yes, that's a "thing" at Japanese restaurants. So often the rice is dry or mushy or just mediocre. If a Japanese restaurant should have one thing it's good rice. The ambience was a bit dated and sad the sushi conveyor belt only is in operation on Fridays and Saturdays but the food was worth it for the most part. Loved that they played anime movies in the TV instead of boring sports or some cooking show. FOOD: Sushi had a nice variety along with mnany standards. A bit too many California roll variations for my taste but enough good stuff that I was happy. I'm still in search of the perfect futomaki and this wasn't it. BUT I loved the Killer Roll. Great flavor. And the In N Out Roll was good too. My chicken teriyaki was cooked great and the croquettes were great too. Overall good food. SERVICE: Really good service with attentive people. The environment wasn't great and the front area really needs work. But the people are very friendly. COST: Moderate and reasonable. Definitely worth the cost. I didn't read the reviews before coming here so I didn't have any bad expectations or assumptions when I got the food. I think the price, quality, and amount of food is pretty typical for a Japanese restaurant. The biggest factor for choosing this place was it was nearby and it opens later than most restaurants. I think it's a pretty good restaurant and I would come again. I got a group order of some specialty rolls, a salmon teriyaki bento box, and a saba shioyaki dinner entree. Both bento and dinner entrees came with a miso soup. The saba was good with lemon and most of it was deboned, although the thicker parts were slightly dry. My favorite roll would be the Volcano Roll, which is really similar to a Baked Scallop Roll. I liked the creaminess of the mayo and how saucy the roll is. I didn't know they had parking spaces for customers because there weren't any signs! All of the curbs surrounding the restaurant were red zones so I ended up double parking and ran in to pick up the food. I ordered ahead on their website and didn't see any options for delivery, even though the restaurant said they offered it. It would be nice to get some confirmation or follow-up email or text message about the status of the order, which they didn't provide. Also the restaurant gave us two pairs of chopsticks for our large order that was meant to feed 6 people...I think the workers should ask how many pairs of utensils customers need in the future. read more

They've brought back the sushi belt! Friday and Saturday only from 6-9 pm! of course, I would come back! I came here a long time ago back in high school when the sushi belt was on. I stopped coming shortly after because I didn't feel the quality was there. But they've brought it back and it was so worth it! Be careful not to overeat because I know I did! Honestly, if you come here for nigiri, I feel with the pricing of the sushi belt, it might be more worth it to eat from the belt than off the menu. The quality of the fishes are still good and it's just so much fun. It's also a good way to try a little bit of everything if you wanted to. If there's something you want but don't see on the belt, feel free to ask them. Their service is always good and will always try their best to oblige. It's also a great place for kids and bigger groups as they have big tables. They have a lot of tvs also, so if you want to watch a game, they might even have the channel for it. Disappointing! The monkfish liver was dried and crumbly and had very little flavor at all. The steamed tofu with spicy sauce came without the spicy sauce on the tofu. It takes hours for tofu to absorb flavor so the fact that I'm supposed to pour it on and just eat this cold vapid crumbly tofu with a little bit of sauce that you give me. How is that a dish? The Misa soup was great. But come on it's miso. I requested a side of cucumber which is on the menu. And ask that they put a splash of vinegar onto it. The restaurant actually called me and said that they don't do that. They refuse to give me a splash of vinegar. Literally a spoonful of vinegar. And they said no. But they still charged me for it. The tofu went in the trash. The monkfish went in the trash. So I got to have a tiny cup of miso soup for dinner. read more

This was highly rated on Grubhub, so we tried it. Would not order from this restaurant again. Based on the pricing, we expected it to be high quality Japanese food. We ordered teriyaki that people thought was "bland"-- none of the teriyaki (chicken, tofu, or salmon) was marinated. The sauced was simply squirted on top. The vegetables were ashy not charred, the tamago was laughable. One was extremely tiny, about half the size of its partner. The tempura was breaded shrimp dusted with panko, not a proper tempura. We got 3 rolls and all of them were incredibly disappointing. I paid $73 for 3 rolls and some gyoza and I'm still waiting for Ashton Kutcher to come out and tell me I got punked. One of the rolls was filled with some of the most rotten fish I've ever had in a sushi roll in my life. As soon as my fiancé put it in her mouth, she said, "this tastes really fishy". I didn't believe her so I had to try it for myself. The smell and taste filled my mouth and nose with rotten fish so fast I spat it out onto the floor. The other two (one of which was $17) were incredibly mediocre and tasted exactly the same. The gyoza was also cold and mediocre. We were 100% duped. Don't make the same mistake and don't believe good reviews. Places like this pay for them and if a sushi place is serving expired fish, they're not going to stop. The lovely ladies who run this place are always accommodating to our groups, small (4) or large (30+). They remember us by name and our usual orders and are so nice to our kids. Since SIP, we haven't been able to eat in so have been ordering takeout every few weeks. It's not the same atmosphere as inside the restaurant (they show Miyazaki films and have sushi boats) but the sushi has been just as good and the cooked food is the same quality and the same portions. The sashimi salad and tonkatsu dinner are my all time favorites. The parking lot is open again so easy to pickup your order but they also on some delivery services. Not the most authentic or the fanciest sushi I've ever had, but overall great-tasting and a good value place. They are open during COVID-19--we ordered through UberEats for delivery, but takeout is open at their location in Emeryville as well! I love their Hand Roll Combo, which comes with 4 hand rolls: California, Unagi (eel), Salmon, and Tuna. The Unagi and Salmon are my favs--super fresh and tasty. The crab salad in the California is a bit too sweet but the avocado is a nice addition. The rice tastes amazing--the perfect texture and seasonings. Additionally the rice-to-fish ratio is excellent, and each roll is pretty hefty! 2-3 is a super filling meal for me, so I usually get the set with a few appetizers, which lasts me two full meals. Each hand roll is just a little over $5, which I think is a very competitive price. I haven't seen other restaurants offer that except during Happy Hour specials. I've also tried the Golden Gate Roll ($8.25) which has grilled salmon skin. I don't think I like it as much as other salmon skin rolls I've tried--this one has burdock root (interesting) and a bit of a more charred flavor. I liked it but not enough to get it again. They were kind enough to include an extra miso soup (I only ordered one) and side salad with my order! I'm super happy to support small businesses during these difficult times. Decent sushi place that is really close to the Bay Street mall. Decided to grab a quick meal before heading to the movie theaters. Couldn't find that small parking lot that everyone was talking about, or I did but was too scared to park in there because it looked like apartment parking. Luckily we found street parking. As far as what I ordered, I got the Pink Lady roll, shrimp tempura roll, tempura veggies, and the bento box. The sushi was fabulous. It was nothing too crazy, not the best sushi ever, but it tasted really good. The reason for 4 stars rather than 5? The fried items were soggy upon arrival. The way that Miyozen packages their food allows for no ventilation. I'd like to recommend that they look into other options as far as packaging their to go orders. There are a lot of restaurants that I order for that have this nailed, so it definitely took away from my level of enjoyment of the food. Located just a few blocks away from my apartment, this has easily become my go-to sushi spot. It's never too crowded or we are always served with impeccable service. I've had their revolving sushi bar, ordered regular rolls, tried their sushi boat, but nothing beats their bento boxes! They let you chose between two or three options from a list. I always opt for the California roll, salmon shioyaki (not on the menu but they'll do it for you), and salmon sashimi. Their California rolls are SO creamy and I love how they grill and salt the salmon shioyaki to perfection. It comes with rice, soup, salad, and ice cream as well so you STUFFED by the end of your meal. The waitresses are also very welcoming and kind and always make our experience top notch! Nothing too special about this place, but I did appreciate all the Studio Ghibli decorations and the anime playing on all the TVs. The restaurant itself seemed huge since it was so empty. But because of that, service was quick and it might be a good place to bring a large party next time - there's a full bar near the entrance! Yet perhaps maybe this place does get busier in the evenings/weekends. (I came during late afternoon on a weekday.)
